Answer: I have mine on an 8’ ACC Crappie Stix rod. I think it’s the perfect size and weight for that rod.

Bought the Lew's 50. At the start the reel was smooth retrieving but after about 3 weeks it started to "catch" sometimes when bringing in a fish. Great on crappies and panfish. Not quite sure if I'd buy another.

Its another great reel by lews. I put it on my ultra light rod and loosen the drag. Makes the pan fish feel like they are 10lb bass.

First look is great, Reel has a good look and profile. Unfortunately, the real has a very notable resistance on the top end of retrieval at a slow rate. Trout fishing in NC with a defective reel of that nature would be maddening. I saw the same reports in a previous comment but tried anyways because I like the brand and it didn’t seem to be a consistent problem. I’m returning the defective and have a second otw and am hoping the replacement will prove this to be one of those rare defect cases uncommon with the brand. I will follow up after the second reel arrives. (Love amazons return policy btw js)

Lew's impressed me again. Great buy for a reel under $30. Performs as good as my Pflueger President, with only half the price. I got a size 75, a bit larger than my size 20 president. Spooled with 10lb braid and paired with Berkely lightning and uglystik UL, it's my to go reel for creek fishing now, great fun fighting 2~3lb LMB/cats. Will get a size 50 in the future.

Works fine right out of the box, respooled with old 4lb mono. Drag is not as refined as JDM reels, but can't complain too much. Reels in crappies without any issues.

I bought the smaller of the two sizes and overall it's a pretty good and smooth reel. The anti-reverse is fairly instant and it has a feeling of quality to it. Mine has one minor flaw. It does not lay the line as evenly on the spool as it should. This is generally caused by improper timing between spool oscillation (both speed and travel distance) and the speed of the rotor. Fortunately mine lays a bit more line at the front of the spool than the rear. If it were laying more line at the rear of the spool it would diminish the casting distance to some degree. I believe mine is more of an issue of the distance the spool retracts than a true timing issue and I can probably even the line out with the addition of a thin nylon washer under the spool. I do have the parts and I will see if it evens out the line better. This may be an issue with my reel that many others do not have but a friend bought the same reel and has the same issue. It is however a minimal issue and not a deal breaker. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the Lew's name. Lew's was the first to design a low profile baitcast reel. It was designed by Lew's and manufactured for them by Shimano who at that time did not have their own brand of reel. It was the fact that they manufactured the Lew's design that put them in the fishing tackle industry. If it were not for the original Lew's BB1 design Shimano may not have ever entered the fishing tackle market at all. I am old enough to remember the history of the first Lew's reel and Shimano starting in the tackle industry by manufacturing a Lew's designed reel that was years ahead of it's time. Many people don't realize that Shimano probably wouldn't even be in the fishing tackle market if not for the design of one American company. Of course Shimano and several other companies make some outstanding reels of their own design these days and they just keep getting better as time goes on.
