Can i put 17lb line on this reel?

Answer: If it was 17lb braid, I would say yes. If it was 17lb fluorocarbon or monofilament, probably still yes, but pushing the upper limit.

Answer: Should be OK for 4000 size, maybe also possible for 3000 size. Definitely not for 1000 and 2000 size, which you probably won't do anyway.

This is my main reel and it's incredibly smooth. I mostly use crank bait and spinners so the fast ratio is very handy for covering a lot of water. Plenty big enough for a whole season of bass fishing. Drag is tight with a consistent pull that's easy to dial in. Locks solidly open and closed for great casting. I have a larger version as well but this size is my preferred reel.

if you plan on catching big game dont buy this reel but its perfect for small game. A 20 lb channel cat fish hit this reel it took 20 min to reel that fish in .The reel was jumping in between turns which felt like its falling apart.

When spooling the reel I noticed it was spooling to the back of the spool more than the front. So I took all the line off and checked the box to see if the reel came with spool spacers, it did not. I cranked the drag down very hard and respooled and it seemed to go more evenly the second time, even though I had a lot of drag on it the first time I spooled it. Maybe it was just a fluke. I oiled the bearings in the handle and inside the spool. It is not the smoothest rod even after oiling. Some of the mechanisms seem kind of cheap compared to other reels that I have the drag clicker is very small and sticks out color wise on the reel because its bronze.

Having said all this, I wasn't expecting perfection on a $30 reel and it is good enough for what it is, which is pretty much a basic spinning reel. It's holding up so far.
