Answer: I don't use braided its mono for me but it is "not" going to be a problem this reel is pretty good value reel but it did lock up on me after a few times out so i took the plates on both sides off and lubed the heck out of it and its been working fine now. Would i buy again sure just pick up some good lube too. Note: this is not for casting so if that is the way your going to use it look elsewhere.

I have 2 of them I use for trolling in the Sea of Cortes and with 5 years of hard use, they are still very good. Generally if there were a left handed version of this reel the number would be CV-451, the 1 designating left hand retrieve.

Bought my cv-30d, 310 in 02-2019. used it for the first time yesterday (11-2019). reel wont take up line. the line guide just moves back & forth. why?

Answer: I would check the star and make sure the drag is tightened. If the star drag is tightened and the guide is moving back and forth, the spool will be turning as well. If line is not picking up when the drag is tightened and the spool is engaged , using braided line without any backing will cause the line to slip around the arbor of the spool when any tension is applied.

Answer: 1. The knot to the spool is loose, so it won't pick up the line when you rewind 2. check the star drag.

Answer: Most likely cause is that the star drag or spool tension is too loose.

Answer: I call it the clicker...and mine still clicks but its a quite click but it still clicks....Its about a 1/3 the noise when switch in the up position maybe even a 1/4 of the noise.

Answer: Typically when you move the slide to turn the clicker off it will be silent upon letting line out. When retrieving line with the clicker off there is still an audible click but it is considerably muted.

Answer: It depends on which series Convector you purchase. They have a 15, 20, 30 and 45 series. The 15 being the smallest and the 45 being the largest reel. Your best bet is to go to Okuma's website and look at the specs for each size. They will list line capacity based on the test weight of the line you use.

Answer: There is a little recessed switch on the side plate that controls that clicking sound.

Answer: The bait clicker can be turned off or on. You can turn the clicker off by moving the clicker button on the side plate.

Answer: I’ve never tried to use it for jigging myself. I would think it might be a little heavy to jig with and won’t get you the fast action that a light reel and pole would give. I use it for trolling or bottom bouncing. With the line counter you can always get it back to the same depth that you are getting fish at. It’s a great reel.

Answer: I down rigger and troll for Rainbow trout and dolly varden all the time. This is a perfect sized reel for you. Put some 12lb test line on and enjoy!

Answer: No, not too large. I use planer boards and catch loads of fish with this reel. Also catch many Muskies with it soaking suckers.

Answer: usually, the problem is the way you hold the line when filling the reel. I hold the line with my fingers just in front of the reel. if it gets low on one side I simply move my hand over the side that's low. if it starts getting high on one side I hold the ling over to the other side. I have this issue on all brands of level wind reels. if your holding the line with your hand and holding it to the left of center it's going to be low on the right side.

Answer: Throw out the reel and buy a better one. These have. A Terri me drag anyways.

Received this reel just over a week ago and so far so good. The reel came in a box with an extra handle with a football shaped grip which I immediately swapped in from the factory double handled grip. I then filled the reel with 40 lb braid which is about the equivalent of 10 lb mono.

After filling, I pulled out 50 feet of the braid then measured and marked it with a Sharpie at every foot. After doing several tests, the counter on the reel is within 1.5 or less inches per foot. Over a short distance, that is not a lot but maybe a markedly big difference at 200 -300 feet or more.

I was able to take the reel (mounted to an Trophy XL rod) to a local lake for some basic tests. The retrieve is smooth - but I really don't like the soft clicking on the retrieve and there is no way turn this off. Note this clicker is not the same as main clicker which is very noticeable, but can be turned off.

As for casting, these types of reels are not the best for casting, but I did manage to get some decent casting distances and with only one minor birds nest.

Overall a decent reel for the price I paid ($110.00 CA) and certainly a step up from the Magda series - but below the quality and overall good, comfortable feel of the Cold Water series of which I have a CW-203D and a CW-453D.

Would I purchase again? Probably not. I was able to get the CW-203D on sale for the same price a few days before from a local fishing store. That is not to say there is anything wrong with the Convector series, I just feel that there is more value and a step up in quality for the dollar in the Cold Water series **if you can get purchase at or a slightly higher price then the Convector which is rare right now.

UPDATE: I gotta bump to four stars. Yes, the modulation of the star drag leaves something to be desired, but the saving grace is that it does "click" when adjusting. You can trust the clicks, even though it doesn't "feel" like you're adjusting the drag force. And once set, it's a nice drag system at this price point. Also - it's holding up fine under kayak saltwater fishing, which is pretty tough on reels.

It is a solid real. Given the price point, it is well constructed and the line counter is accurate. However, on my particular sample, it has one rather significant flaw. The drag is really hard to modulate. It spins freely, then all of a sudden in one quarter spin, it's almost at full force. Otherwise, I love everything else about the reel. It makes making Drag adjustments in real-time a real chore and a guessing game.

You get what you pay for. I have nine Magna's and 5 are broken and gone. all manner of Failures. I thought I would get some of the Convectors and all would be fine cause I spent more money. Right?
Wrong. I bought Five convectors and have had problems with two already. One failed on its maiden voyage, I brought it to the retailer and he told me $ 40 to send it in. I don't know what I am going to do, but I wont be buying any Okuma Products in the near future. Yes I am typically a slow learner. GOOD FISHING EVERYONE.............
