Powerful Drag The Revo SX comes equipped with a Power Stack Carbon Matrix Drag System that allows for a very smooth, consistent pressure across the entire drag range with a max drag of up to 24 pounds to stop any fish. A thicker carbon washer also extends drag durability and performance. | Strong & Lightweight This baitcast low profile reel also features the X2-Cräftic alloy frame, which provides a strong yet lightweight frame, a rigid base for high drag pressures, and an increase corrosion resistance. The extended 90 millimeter handle with oversized PVC knobs gives more leverage and allows you to fish much more comfortably throughout the day. | Dual Braking System The Infini brake system in this fishing reel is a combination of a centrifugal brake that controls the first half of the case and a magnetic brake that controls the second half of the case. This dual braking system allows for a wide range of adjustments to suit any style of bait. | Increased Durability The Revo SX features the Infini II Spool design that allows it to handle extreme loads and delivers improved castability. The featured DuraClutch design increases its durability, reduces thumb bar resistance when casting heavy baits for an improved engagement with the turn of the handle, and enhances casting smoothness. Answer: The SX is available in 6.4:1 and 7.3:1 where as the SX RKT is 9:0:1 only. The SX has 24lbs of Max drag and the SX RKT has 18lbs of Max drag. I have both SX and SX RKT. Both great reels.

This reel is inshore ?
Answer: No. This one is not. Abu makes a revo inshore tho. I have this reel(revo sx) and I also have the revo inshore and they are both great reels. Only complaint is the release for the side plate is to easy to hit. Have almost lost it in the river a couple times.
Answer: Don't know what inshore means. But I accidentally bought a right hand crank when I really prefer a left hand. This is a super nice new in box reel.
Answer: I use it in fresh water. It's a lightweight reel. I would use it for smaller salt water fish.

The SX Drag System is “Power Stack and the Revo X is Hybrid Carbon Matrix, therefore the Max Drag for the SX is 24lbs while the Revo X is only 18lbs. I have both reels and while you can probably be able to tell the difference between them, they’re both great reels! Hope this helps.
Q:
Would this be a good rod for a first-time baitcasting fisherman? Is it a forgiving reel in regards to birdsnests?
Answer: It is a wonderful reel. I’m totally a bait caster person. You do have to learn how to adjust the real to the lure you are using. There are many videos on the internet how to use a baitcasing reel
Answer: This is my 1st baitcaster too. Just make sure to start out by using the brake at max and ease off of it as you get the hang of it and keep your thumb on the line so you can stop it as it hits the water so it doesn’t birdnest. If you do birdnest and have a hard time untangling it just go to YouTube and look at videos explaining easy ways to deal with that. I hope that helps.
Answer: Absolutely. I bought this reel for my dad to learn how to cast better and he does very well with it. There’s a dial on the side to adjust resistance when casting which will help out a lot at first and can be dialed down when you become more comfortable
Answer: I would say yes it would be. I let my wife try mine and she had no issue and is a first time baitcast user.
Q:
The side plate switch wont go all the way up when i close it. So if i hit the lever on accident the plate flys open had to put tape on it. Is there a
Answer: there are 3 screws which hold the brake system on the side plate, unscrew them a little bit, about 180° u can try, then u will see the swtich can be opened or locked easily
Answer: Send it back for Garcia to fix
Product reviews of Abu Garcia Revo SX Low Profile Fishing Reel
Amazon16v : Smooth reel
I wouldn't call myself an avid fisherman because I spend so much time behind my desk but I do enjoy getting out there when I can. I don't want to spend a lot of money on my gear because I don't need expensive equipment for those occasional times I get out. However, I do enjoy using this reel. I paired it up with an Ugly Stik Elite 7.0 Medium Heavy rod. The black and red colors and the rod and reel look really nice too.
I loaded it up with some Sufix 20lb mono and she's good-to-go. I bought some braid for it too but decided to run with mono since I'm mainly fishing open water off of my kayak.
The one thing I will say I had a problem with was in the initial tensioner and brake setup. For some reason, I was not able to fit the brake cover back on but eventually I did. I think that I my spool tension was pushing the spool out and would not allow the cover to sit properly for me to lock it in place. It may have been me but I wanted to share this with you just in case you have a similar problem.
paul g : Strong real with smooth and light. Great for all different applications l.
Great real with strong drag , I would recommend this real to anyone that wants a good quality casting real with a lot of power to get the big fish out.
Phillip Zeleznikar : Grinding 1st day on water
Owned Abu since childhood without failure or problems minor or major. The Revo SX was my first Abu low profile & after about an hour on the water, alternating 4 set ups I might add, it started grinding like it’s been abused for a decade. Cast & reeled beautifully until that point but I’m extremely disappointed. To top it off my refund was over $20 short so now I get to play that game too. I love Abu Garcia gear but I got a lemon here.
HK : Uneven line distribution
Right out of the box and the line winds with an uneven distribution. Heavy on the right. I can see the line guide is off and no instructions on possible adjustments. Very poor.
Amazon Customer : Nice
Very smooth
S. Rivera : A great addition to my arsenal of bass fishing essentials.
Just got this beautiful Abu Garcia Revo SX hs baitcasting reel. I am excited to put a lot of use to it as I plan to make it my go-to bass fishing reel if everything works out. I've heard a lot of good things about it. As far as I can say, it cast far, accurate, and smooth with no bird's nest, yet. The spool tension and breaking system all seem to work as expected for Abu Garcia quality.
I paired it with an Abu Garcia 7'-3" Medium/Heavy Vendetta baitcasting rod. Spooled it with 30lb Runcl braided line on the back end and a 30lb Kastking Kovert fluorocarbon leader. Hopefully this will be a synergistic combination that will last me for many years of good bass fishing. Of course I will be cleaning and lubricating it on a regular basis to keep it performing at peak capacity.
Abu Garcia makes some great fishing gear and this reel looks like it's no joke. This combo is killer and when you look at it, you can see that it is a professional quality set. A great addition to my arsenal of bass fishing essentials. I highly recommend it because you only live once.
Update:
This reel has proven itself to be an integral part of my bass fishing gear. It is THE reel to have for uninterrupted, hassle free, bird's nest free, and (almost) tumb free bass fishing. It is incredibly easy to use and almost impossible to break. I have four of these now and have not upgraded any of the components, yet they perform at tournament level. I even choose these over most of my Shimano reels. Really, they are that good!
So!! Gettchaself one!! or two!! or three!!
HK : Uneven line distribution
Right out of the box and the line winds with an uneven distribution. Heavy on the right. I can see the line guide is off and no instructions on possible adjustments. Very poor.
Doug Webb : Go fishing
I’ve been using Abu Garcia reels for 65 years and they are the best value for any fisherman.
Tas : Very smooth and great brake ajdustments
If your thinking of a revo I strongly suggest the SX or higher for the extra brake set. The ability to adjust the breaks between the spool tentioner, the magnetics and the centrifical makes it easy to dial this in for your prefrences. I do not see as much of a advantage in stepping up on the open faced, but on the bait casters I would start with this reel as a starting point.
Boo Anderson : yah nice until it doesnt last
I have spent a ton on Abu reels in the past two years. Two that stand out failed in the first year. First is this Baitcaster....the Revo SX Low profile HG ... bail won't trip after about 1 year. C'mon. Second, Revo Spincast, reverse crank doesn't work after less then a year. Both reels were just under $200 each! But my crappy S Series Abu's are still running and my crappy KastKings are tanks. I dunno man. Disappointing. That said, My Revo Rocket ($450) is a flippin tank and casts like butter. Abu, as much as I love the company, has been a roll the dice in my experience.
Durer : Great value.
Great value for the money.
Humood twitan : amazing
first thanks for collaborator customer service for solving my problem.. i received the reel and it was amazing and worth the price
Rob Tison IV : Love this reel!!
Love this reel but you better know how to use it before you buy it. It does take skill to use it.
Christopher Jones : First Baitcaster!/ But.... SIDE PLATE MALFUNCTION!
I’ve heard a lot of good things about this Baitcaster, I’ve been using spinning reels my entire life for Saltwater and Freshwater. Now, I feel like it’s time to step on the Dark side. Over the years I hear people say ahhh man Baitcaster suck because I always bird eat, black lash etc. I know a lot of people who use them and the advice they give me is calibrate it each time you use a new lure. I’m waiting on my rod now which is an Uglystik Carbon Casting Rod 7 ft MH fast action, I’m going to spool it up with 30 Lbs Moss Green power pro, I went with the HS LH model, for one I like to use topwater lures to catch bass. Also, I wanted my handles on the left side and thumb the spool with my right thumb instead of the opposite. TIGHT LINES EVERYONE!
UPDATE: didn’t last long at all, kind of disappointed, while casting the sideplate came off and wouldn’t come back on so I sent it back for a replacement. I’ve heard it’s a manufacturing issues why the sideplate comes off, once it comes off it’s impossible to put it back on. If my replacement does or has the same issues I’m going to a Lews Baitcaster, poor quality with the Revo SX for the amount of money it costs.
Update: I received my replacement a few weeks ago, the reel is working flawlessly. I must’ve received a malfunctioning reel.
JohnnyBaboon : Great reel, not great seller.
Great reel for under $200. I haven't had any issues with this reel so far. I have caught fish from a few ounces to a few pounds on this reel, paired with an Abu Garcia Vendetta, with medium action and fast tip.
Update: The main gear and level wind gears are stripped. After taking it apart, I found out it was previously disassembled before I bought it.
Jeeper : Nice Real
Great real for the money! Light weight super smooth casting and realing!
Luke : This is a fantastic reel. Liked it so much I instantly bought ...
This is a fantastic reel. Liked it so much I instantly bought another. I have the revo3 sx and thought this would probably be about the same but the dual brakes on the revo4 sx let you throw very light lures without issue. I use 40lb suffix 832 and throw 1/8 ounce lures with ease. I typically fish with a lews super duty, lews tourney mb’s, a revo3 sx, lews lfs speed spool and a lews slp speed spool and these revo 4 sx’s are my favorites and most versatile I’d say.
LeRoy J Bell : fish getter
greatest reel for jigging for salmon.
Timothy Hunt : Good purchase
This reel is a good reel to learn on. Simple and has good action. I haven’t caught any Going big on it yet but I’m sure it’ll hold up.
Boo Anderson : yah nice until it doesnt last

Steve Hedrick : Defective product
Reel is defective, drag not working after first use out of box.
ironhed79 : love it
people might disagree but this reel outcasts my tatula 150. between the magtrax and infini brake system i can tweak this reel to get maximum distance with no backlashes with any weight lure
Robert R. : The best as I expected from ABU !!!
Just as I expected awesome reel!!

Kevin engel : Unhappy
I thought I ordered a left hand crank reel but I'm not sure. I don't like what I got. Have not used it
ironhed79 : love it
people might disagree but this reel outcasts my tatula 150. between the magtrax and infini brake system i can tweak this reel to get maximum distance with no backlashes with any weight lure
Don : Awesome reel
Best sub $200 reel on the market
Robert A. Sholar : durable
very good overall.
Timothy Hunt : Good purchase
This reel is a good reel to learn on. Simple and has good action. I haven’t caught any Going big on it yet but I’m sure it’ll hold up.

Kenneth J. : Not as advertised
Difficult to adjust, use & does not cast nearly as far as my Diawa Tatula.. Advertised as a great beginner bait caster., it's not. Buy the Diawa Tatula SV for another $40. You won't regret it
I would return it if I could.
Amazon Customer : honest review from experience with quality reels
hello everyone, i hope you will find this in depth review of the revo sx helpful! bare with me as i’m sure i will get off track lol. i am a long time abu garcia, particularly the revo lineup fan/user. i will be comparing this reel to the other gen 4 revos that i own ( Revo X, Revo premier, and Revo Mgxetreme 2) as well as various other reels i own of smiliar price (Lews mach speed spool, shimano curado k). all aspects are based off my personal experiences with the Revo sx and comparable reels, and i am a very picky person when it comes to reels.
For starters I will say that I am extremly impressed with this reel, so impressed I had to come on amazon, after purchasing this reel from bass pro to right a review, and I would 100% recomend this reel for a “ do it all reel” over any other reel listed above. I have owned the sx for exactly 1 month now, and fished it almost every day. Throughout this month I have thrown every weight lure from a 1/8oz jighead (just to see how or if it’s possible to cast) up to a 1.5oz punching rig.
Quick pros and cons:
Pros
1. Amazing castabilty
2. Ergonomic
3. Relatively light
4. Looks very good
5. Very smooth
6. Amazing braking system
7. Does just about every technique as good as any
Cons
1. Sometimes on the retrieve the worm gear eye thing would pinch my finger
Starting from the finesse end of the spectrum. It’s no secret that pretty much any reel can cast a lure 1/2oz and over, most reels under $250 really struggle with the finesse catagory. In this part of the review I will compare the SX to my mgx 2 (msrp $500). Using 10lb braid, casting a 1/8oz lure is possible with the sx, averaging over 70ft per cast. However, things can get kind of sloppy mid cast. The mgx consistently achieved 8-12 feet further casts over the sx and was much less sloppy. The same story for 3/16oz. However...throwing something that light is a little extreme and something I don’t think I have ever done bass fishing in Florida. Something a little more common, a weightless Senko and 4/0 hook. The Senko castabilty really surprised me, and is partially why I am writing this review. To my surprise, the revo sx consistently casted a weightless senko within 2-3 feet of my mgx on the same rod with the same line. There is no mid cast over runs if the line at all, i was very impressed at the distance and ease of cast.
Getting out of finesse and into generic fishing that apples to the everyday angler, I will compare the revo sx to: gen 4 premier, gen 4 revo x, Shimano Curado k, and lews Mach speed spool. Starting with the premier (msrp $300). As far as casting goes, the sx and premier are equal to me, however I prefer the brake system on the sx slightly. With that being said, I could not justify spending twice as much on the premier and I’m kind of upset I did. Both reels are equally smooth, the sx is slightly quieter on the cast and retrieve. Moving down in price to the revo X (msrp $100). Sadly I feel that the revo x isent even comparable to the Sx when it comes to casting. Even though it is much cheaper, the sx is more than worth the price difference. The curado K is the only close contender here, but the sx did achive linger casts throughout every lure I tested. This could be because I am more comfortable with the braking system from abu though. Hopefully no shimano fans got to fired up lol.
My semi-conclusion:
With the overall performance of the sx, only losing out in the finesse catagory to the mgx which retails for $500, i do not think there is currently a better reel on the market for under $300. The sx is very ergonomic, the 90mm handle feels great, the large grips feel great, and the reel is very low profile. The drag system provides smooth drag and gives a very goid max of 24lbs...give or take a pound or 2. The braking system is outstanding, probably the best I have ever used. I was able to fish most lures with the spool tension set to eliminate side to side play, only 1 internal pin turned on, and the magnetic brake between 3-8 clicks. The retrieve is very very smooth and quiet.
Conclusion:
If you are debating buying the revo sx I can assure you that you will not find a better reel for even close to this price. I would buy this reel over and over again.
Hopefully you found this review helpfull, have a good day!
HK : Uneven line distribution
Right out of the box and the line winds with an uneven distribution. Heavy on the right. I can see the line guide is off and no instructions on possible adjustments. Very poor.
Rob Tison IV : Love this reel!!
Love this reel but you better know how to use it before you buy it. It does take skill to use it.
Robert R. : The best as I expected from ABU !!!
Just as I expected awesome reel!!
Kevin engel : Unhappy
I thought I ordered a left hand crank reel but I'm not sure. I don't like what I got. Have not used it
Christopher Jones : First Baitcaster!/ But.... SIDE PLATE MALFUNCTION!

Will : Liked it so much I bought another
Great reel. It casts as far as my Daiwa Tatula XWS, which the Lews Speed Spool would not. It's a great reel for the price. It could be lighter, but I fish for hours and don't find it bothers me none.
robert w mixon : Buy one
Best reel i own. Period.
Amazon Customer : Abu
Amazing this reel showed lews how to make a real reel rock on abu for life
robert w mixon : Buy one
Best reel i own. Period.
Christina S : Feeling fishy...
This is so great. Been fishing for years now. Lightweight and can use for hours. It really is a really good reel. Get it and try it out for yourself. Catching bass in Missouri
Philip D. dowell : Five Stars
Extremely smooth and casing real
Jeffrey Kolmos : Great reel.
One of my favorite bait casters. Bought a second one already.
Telecom : Super smooth. Casts a mile.
Super smooth and casts a mile.
Took this inshore fishing to Chandeleur Islands. Fished everything from 1/8 oz jigs to spook jr too waters. Easily adjusted to cast both a country mile with no backlashes. Super smooth.
