The Stainless Steel Spring is the best choice for Fisherman, Preppers, Survivalists and Hunters. They're very easy to use. Simply attach to the object of your choice, bait the hook, set depth and trigger, then wait. The Mechanical Fisher does the rest. It sets the hook, and retrieves the fish! Kind of like a mouse trap for Fish, but these do not kill the fish!

Questions about 6 Mechanical Fisher's Yo Yo Fishing Reels -Package 1/2 Dozen- Yoyo Fish Trap -(Flat Trigger Model)
Q:
Does anyone know what is the difference in the standard wire trigger model and the flat trigger model? Thanks.
Answer: The flat trigger bar actually has two settings one deep notch (great for catfish) and one shallow notch (good for smaller fish). As far as sensitivity, I've used both wire trigger and flat trigger, and can't tell much difference in sensitivity. The flat (bar) trigger is more heavy-duty. I personally prefer the Mechanical Fisher over the White's Auto-Fisher because of the former's stainless steel spring, and recommend the flat trigger.
Answer: The wire tends to be a little more touchy and sensitive. Which can also make them harder to set and easier to accident my trigger. I prefer the flat trigger models.
Answer: the flat trigger model seems to have a better response time , they are both excellent. i would recommend ether one for any fishing or small game trapping.
Answer: I have absolutely no idea what the difference would be. I haven't used the items. I only got them as a back up in case the world goes to pot in a hand bag and I have to rely on fishing for my food. I also have cane poles which I really like. As you can see, I am not a fisherman but to have food on the table, I can become one.
Q:
How big is each reel? Would one fit in a container designed to carry soap while traveling and still have room for other fishing supplies?
Answer: On the yo yo the round part is 2 an Half inches where the Mechanism to lock it in place is 3" inches so if you put it in a soap container it should fit just have to measure the soap dish and as far as hooks split shots should not have a problem.. Now the cheap denture containers that you get from the Hospital's will hold 3 yo yo's and there small enough to store in anything!!
Answer: I guess that would depend on the size of the soap container, as I have seen and used several different sizes! I build a small fishing kit out of a heavy duty industrial plastic bag.
Answer: The soap dish is to narrow; however, Rubbermaid has a few good choices with pressure fit lids and does have enough room for hooks, sinkers leader plus a little more and is compact. The one I use can hold two Yo Yo's on top of each other. The size of the Yo Yo is 3 inches total and the thickness is ½ inch. I had Rubbermaid handy but there may be other brands even better.
Answer: About soda can size in diameter. May be a lil big for a soap container. They work great fun when camping.
Answer: No there to big for a soap box. there about the size of the palm of you hand. Assuming you are an average size guy. And about as thick as a cigarette. All that aside. Buy them no matter what. These things are awesome. I will be buying more soon. I have 8 now. If you close enough to them where u camp hang a small bell on them and you will know when its dinner time
Q:
can you mention if hooks, sinkers etc... are included or not
Answer: No hooks or sinkers included. These are great and I highly recommend these.
Answer: Hooks and sinkers are not included what you seen in the picture is what you get. They work Great!!!!
Answer: They are not included. The product itself is awesome and works great.
Answer: The Mechanical Fisher's Yo Yo, comes only with line, swivel and a lanyard for hanging it on something.
Answer: no just line,,but awesome anyway
Answer: no they are not ,you need to buy your own .
Q:
Did this come with the instruction card that is pictured? I don't need it , just wondering.
Answer: Well, the seller is advertising the instruction booklet, but obviously is not providing it. My order didn't have them either. There are instructions in the pictures displayed, and notice there is even a website listed, but if you try to go there it redirects you to an empty page. It takes literally 5 minutes to make people happier by posting at least a link to a page for downloading the instructions.
Answer: mine didnt come with anything but real easy to use , just pull the line out to where you want and slide the lock bar down and poof it is done , attatch the line and hook etc you want on end and put where you want to fish and when a fish tugs on hook and line it releases the lock bar and retracks setting the hook
Answer: I don't need one either. I bought six of them to go in some survival packages I'm making up. I
Answer: no but youtube is the best place to learn setup and tension setting. Make sure your state allows this kind of fishing. California doesn't and I found out after i received this. It is still a good product for the lazy fisherman!
Answer: No, Mine didn't.
Q:
Does anyone know what the aproximate strength of the spring is? I'm just wanting to know if the spring is fast & strong enough to use a snare spring.
Answer: Not sure of the strength of the spring , but it can be used for small game. I think there good for up to 10lbs .
Answer: I use it(them) for snare springs. They'll lift a rabbit, not sure exact pounds of lift, but a rabbit is near max
Answer: The spring is strong and fast. I've used them and are good for snares. Hope this helps.
Answer: For a squirrel. Or same size animal. I would use something else for any bigger game for small game it's strong enough and fast enough
Q:
Will these trigger if you fish them with a minnow?
Answer: I used them is salt water with pin fish up to five inches long and they did not trigger. Also, if you are even the least bit mechanically handy, you can bend the trigger engagement to decrease or increase sensitivity. These are fine for any target fish between 1 and at least 20 pounds. Highly recommended!
Answer: I fish with minnows and have not had a problem. Even caught a nice stripped bass on one.
Answer: I would say no although I have not tried it. Would probably take a little more pull than a minnow could do. My son loves these, and has caught several catfish on them. Have to be careful setting them, he did pinch himself the first time.
Answer: As long as the minnow is to big, must be crappie size minnow.
Q:
what is the length capacity of the line for this reel? I want to put about 30 feet of line on.
Answer: It will hold that, if you want more use tough line
Answer: I doubt it will retract thirty feet though you might be able to put thirty feet on it. Retract thirty though nah.
Q:
How big of a fish can this hold weight wise?
Answer: I've never caught anything more than about 2 lbs. Worked OK on those. I suspect 5 lbs would break it easily.
Answer: We were catching some rather large cats on these- about 2 -3 lbs.....I do not know the actual limit.
Q:
Se puede hacer pagos por efecty
Q:
How much do they weigh?
Answer: The pack of 6 weighs 11.3 oz or 323 grams. Each Yo Yo weighs 1.8 oz or 53 Grams with line and swivel. In comparison the entire pack of 6 weighs less than half a 16.9 oz bottle of water.
Answer: A six pack is about 12 oz, so each weighs about 2 oz.
Answer: 6-10 oz.each
Answer: Not much, they fit in the palm of your hand about 3/8" thick.
Q:
What's the test of line
Answer: 60 lbs
Q:
How much pull (lbs) does the reel produce when tripped?
Answer: Not a super strong pull, but enough for small to medium fish.
Q:
How many pounds does the line hold?
Answer: I have caught a 15 lb catfish in it
Q:
How do you retrieve the line or reef in the line
Answer: You pull out the line you need and it locks the reel. When the fish pulls at the bait it automatically reels in the line. To just retrieve the line give ot a tug pulling it out and let go.
Answer: The reel automatically retrieves the line - if you have a fish on then you pull the fish in by hand - if your question is what happens if its snagged on a reef then if your hook length is weaker than your mainline then you just lose the hook length
Answer: First, up where I'm from, it's not a legal line. Second, it's a don't watch over fish device, that I would string from an overhang branch over slow moving water.
Answer: It's spring loaded. Line reals itself.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: The reel is spring loaded when it's trigger it retractes it's self.
Q:
Which trigger is better on these — the wire trigger or flat trigger? I’ve heard one is best, but can’t remember which.
Answer: Mine have the flat trigger. They work great. Some have rough edges that can slice food so mind that. Quick file makes them perfect.
Answer: I never tried the wire. I like the flat trigger. These work great. May want to file the edges close to file connection areas just to be sure they don't get cut.
Answer: I only own these the flat trigger but I read these were better - great items to add to my kit have already caught on them
Answer: Sorry. I bought these and tucked them away in my "master bug-out bag" and haven't seen them since. I'm sure they are in the bag though. Along with the simple directions. There are all sorts of things like that in my bug-out bag - things that sounded like good solid emergency/survival tools and supplies. I keep putting off an outing where I create circumstances that allow me to experiment with the contents of my bug-out bag and discard the tools that don' work well and get more of the ones that do.
Q:
Do these qualify as either set-lines, bank-lines, trotlines, etc?
Answer: Yes, set lines.
Q:
possible to adjust the length of the line from 1ft up to 9ft or 12 ft?
Answer: There are no adjustments. But its probably 3 to 4 ft long. If u need it to be longer just add a leader line to desired length. Hope that helped
Answer: Maybe, if you do lengthen the string, you will have to re adjust the spring tension, but you are limited to how much. Like Bryan said add a longer leader. That is all I have.
Answer: The travel of the line is determined by the travel of the spring and all that is needed is enough to set the hook and resist the pulling of the fish. You can add to the length of the line provided the weight of the added line does not exceed the power of the spring.
Answer: There doesn't seem to be an external adjustment but it is possible to replace the line with a shorter or longer line.
Answer: Yes. Its easy to adjust. It works like pullind your blinds up and down.
Q:
Can you put new line on them?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Yes, needs to be a braided line
Answer: I haven't tried....haven't used them yet. I live in Alaska and season not right for fishing with them yet.
Answer: Yes. It is nylon string .
Answer: Yes
Q:
Which is better, the flat trigger or the standard wire trigger reels?? and why??
Q:
How long is the string that's included? Can you replace the string, say, if it breaks or if you want to add more yardage to it?
Answer: The string on the reel is Apparently 15' and yes you can replace it If it breaks. Do to the spring on the reel it will only let you pull out about 8' of line. You could add more line to end if need to reach water or a deeper depth. Hope this helps.
Answer: It's short only 9 or 10 feet but you can easily add another 4 or 6 feet of hook length with fishing line. I've read that some indeed change the line but the cord that it comes with seems plenty strong enough and you can use a tree branch that has a lot of flex of a spring attached to the reel to reduce pressure on the line.
Answer: 9-12' string, yes you can replace it.
Q:
Are these fishing reels reusable?
Answer: Yes they are reusable. They can be reset many times. The idea is that a fish set it off and then the spring keeps a constant pressure on the fish to ware it out.
Answer: ??? Have you ever try google fishing jojo or search it on YouTube . The hole thing is that it's reusable
Answer: Yes they are reusable many times. Lubricate and protect from rust after each use.
Answer: Yes. You just bait, set and forget. Later you check back and re-bait or take fish off then re-bait.
Answer: Yup, they are.
Answer: Yes as far as I know. I have them for emergency so I haven't used them.
Answer: Yes my son uses them over and over
Q:
Did this order go through
Q:
How does it "lure"?
Answer: Seen these on amazon & had not seen these in years, so why not got a pack to try out. They are awesome. They work well and my son & I have caught fresh and salt water fish with these to to reels. I highly recommend these yo yo's being in anybody's fishing tackle.
Answer: You put a hook on it with live bait ! Minnow, worm, shrimp, etc.
Answer: Baits
Q:
will a sunfish as bait set it off?
Answer: Yeap , you have to use dead bait . Even the slightest fisch will trigger it.
Answer: I believe it would. It doesn't take much to set it off.
Q:
How can you retrieve the line
Answer: it automatically retreives once it is tripped by the arm and pulled back in by the spring.
Q:
how easy is it to restring with 60 lb fluorocarbon line
Q:
What pound fish are these rated for??
Answer: No idea what pound line is on them but we have caught catfish larger than 2 lbs on them.
Answer: I do not know what # They are rated for but we are catching up to 2+ pound catfish on them.
Answer: I have caught up to eight pound redfish with no problem. I think they are more limited by the pound test of the line, swivels, leader, and hooks than by the reels which are very well built. A strong fish will keep the line at maximum extension until he begins to tire. Then, the reel will bring him in. The reel tension is not high but it is steady and that is what does the work.
Q:
What size is the hanging hole? I want to put a small clevis on it so I can tie 550 cord to it.
Answer: I think if a small Clovis Will not fit. There is enough room to ream it out a small amount. The hole is about 1/8 inch but is metric I am sure. I use a large swivel and the 550 Ford works great.
Answer: Too small for 550 cord.
Answer: It looks about 3 mm in diameter - it's not a big hole but there is room to enlarge
Q:
Can you replace the line
Q:
Are they legal in Pa.
Q:
Can you use round hooks
Answer: Yes any hook that you set the hook on the fish would work. A very small fish can set it off. Works great good luck.
Answer: No. Circle hooks will not set well. Use J hooks with offset shanks.
Answer: Not sure what round hooks are but if they catch during normal fishing methods then they should catch with these.
Q:
How maney pounds can it hold
Q:
Is there any way to repair or rewind these with new line if the included line breaks or the tension spring slips?
Answer: Sure you can if you are motivated enough to do so.
Q:
When fish is hooked and fish leaves slack line wilm it lock in place
Answer: Hi - depending on how you set it up, there is no slack line. As soon as the fish moves closer to the reel any slack is pulled back on the reel. The only time you might get slack is if you extend the length of the line by adding an additional fishing line, once the original line is reeled back on to the reel if the fish swims in closer it will create slack.
Answer: When the fish tugs on the line it snaps into place and remains in that position.
Answer: No, the reel doesn't lock, it stays free wheeling with tension from the spring.
Q:
are these made in the USA, please?
Answer: Very Sensitive Flat Trigger Mechanism
Answer: Yes, They are made in the USA.
Q:
Can these be used for ice fishing?
Answer: I used them on private land on a resent camping trip, they worked great. I think they would be great ice fishing. They work best if hanging straight up and down. Hope this helps.
Answer: I don't see why not - not sure how they would work in freezing conditions , but they are a great piece of kit
Q:
you send to Brazil ?
Q:
why can't I access all of the line? The spring is completely coiled but I still have about 3-4 feet of line on the reel.
Answer: Mine worked fine

Nathan : Perfect for the go bag
I have yet to test these out yet. I can say the trigger is sensitive enough to trip when a fish would tug on it but not sensitive enough for a mild current or nibbles to set it off.
rick : Got to get some in try them for the price you can't beat it
These are just simply awesome products love love them
Alan Norm : Have used these in the past and look fwd. ...
Have used these in the past and look fwd. to expermenting with the new units in the spring as winter departs. the new units look much the same as what we have used in past years. Thinking here is the release may be a bit different.... Time will tell in a few months..
Frequent Amazonian : Hopefully a Helpful Review...
For all the reviewers who "haven't had a chance to use these yet but they look like they will work!" Please don't review a FISH TRAP until you have TRAPPED A FISH. I've used these plenty of times and MOST have worked however there are quality control issues and some don't have the best spring/reel action. Perhaps this can be solved by putting your own line on them. Overall you can't beat the ability to catch fish while you do other things around camp which is just what these traps do. We've had many river trout dinners thanks to these and at just a few dollars each they are well worth the price. I just wish there was a more expensive high quality version. These usually don't last which is why I buy a few more every year!
carter amon : Amazing gift
Bought these as part of my best men gifts. They work amazing, perfect fish trap for the lazy fisher. I bought more for Christmas gifts
Kathy Grace : Seems pretty good and well made
Seems pretty good and well made. I believe this will definitely catch some fish. I put them in my survival kit and combined it with a small tackle box. They don’t take up much room. My only improve would be to make the attachment hole larger in order to fit larger string/rope or a carabiner through it to make it easier to secure to a limb or jug.
Drew Sinke : Great for bug out bags!
I would replace the snap swivels before using but these are great l. Set it and forget it. Great for bug out bags!
Tiffany : Works as advertised
These reels work as they should. I have tested them extensively. Ran them in the field (stream) and they work as they should. I received them fast and at a fair price. I am very pleased. I love the outdoors, hiking, and going out on survival trips. These make it so I can catch dinner while working on other stuff. Fantastic buy!
Amazon Customer : Sad.
These auto fishers are a piece of junk. Over half of them would not even recoil the line back in the reel straight out of the package. The ones that did work malfunctioned an would not recoil after catching just one fish on them. Sad.
Samuel Van : Work as advertised
Mechanism is easy to use and all the snares came in working order. Although the anchoring hole is quite small, these seem to be made for hanging above a body of water with fishing line, like a dock or tree limb.
M. Dunn : Great
Great

These little guys are outstanding. I haven't caught anything with them yet I have a few out there right now working their magic. They're fairly easy to setup and they are super sensitive so I'm sure if there is anything worth catching these little bad boys will get it done. I would knock off half a star for the color of the line but Amazon doesn't allow for that and the white cord works alright but it's a beacon to anyone wanting to steal these. I'm definitely going to swap it out for something more subdued. Anyway if you're thinking about buying these, stop thinking and do it. They don't cost anything but a giggle and they're definitely a lot of fun and I can promise you they work as long as you use the right bait.
GMMHEIL : they are good! nope
for the price and the intended use, they are good !
nope, they are not a Shimano, but you don't tie your Shimanos to a semi submerged plastic jug or a tree branch to get you some food while you are making a shelter or starting some fire...do you?
i don't. That's why i got these
Gregory S. Hammer : Haven't used them yet
Looks like a great survival tool check out you tube
Seth : These Yo Yo's are the best thing that i have found for catching catfish out ...
These Yo Yo's are the best thing that i have found for catching catfish out of our creek, most of the time the creek is either too wide or too shallow to justify putting out trot lines, so i take these along i dont have to worry about having some with me to help me check them or if i hook a 50Lb Gar i dont have to deal with 30 more hooks in the water at the same time. i love these for the type of fishing i do, and will buy more in the future.

david piteri : Versatile
Can be used for more than fishing. Can be used as a snare or with actual snares attached. Can be restrung with heavier gauge string for larger fish and used with hanging strings and bungee cords for those 15+ lb fish in a brook.
Emmet : Perfect "last resort" fishing/snare kit.
Well, they are great as a last resort for fishing. As for distance, there is about 4 times as much string as will extend before the spring runs out. That's fine if you ever happen to have to cut your line. Draw able line is about 12 feet. If you are looking to use it as a snare. Then it can't be beat.
sako96 : Flat Trigger fishing reels
I got the Flat Trigger fishing reels. Appear to be in good working order.
Will try to test out this summer. I never have enough patience while fishing
so automation appears to be my answer. Would be good for a BOB gear
setup.
Nathan : Perfect for the go bag
I have yet to test these out yet. I can say the trigger is sensitive enough to trip when a fish would tug on it but not sensitive enough for a mild current or nibbles to set it off.
Michael Murphree : Fun to use
Used these for years , fun fun
Adam F. : Great product would buy again
They do exactly what you need. Very durable, should last a lifetime if taken care of.
Dark Jester : Excellent product
The flat trigger is much better than the wire trigger model in my experience. The wire versions work, but take a bit more force to trip them. These flat trigger ones can easily be set on a hair trip. These are very useful fish traps. Throw a few in your overnight hiking bag and set them out before you set up camp. They'll catch dinner for you while you work on other stuff. They are also good spring trap drivers for small game, and many other things only limited by your imagination. They can handle surprisingly large fish as long as they are anchored well. Even 4 foot channel cats are no problem.
Tactical owl : Made in the USA out of metal
The product arrived in new and unissued condition. It arrived earlier than the seller said, and for that I commend them. The product is made in the USA and it shows! It isn't some cheap crappy Chinese knock-off. The quality of the reels is high for what they are. They won't rust, and they appear to be durable. I checked the mechanisms on these reels and I found them to be of high quality, all metal, and they will work for sure. The concept of a "yo-yo" real is that it allows the user to perform other tasks at the camp site, while the reel catches the fish for you. so while the bait and hook are just sitting around waiting for a bite, the operator can prepare a fire, shelter, or whatever else they might need to do. the operator also doesnt have to wait around the reel. The reel is autonomous. what is so great about this, is that it is simple. Any fish that will get baited by this device won't get away. It is up to the operator of the reel, however, to secure the reel properly to a branch, tri-pod, boat, dock, etc. that is really the only "weak" point (if one could even categorize this as that), I could find of this reel.
Anyone looking for a great camping/survival reel should get this one, from this seller.

luisz415 : product is great and very customizable but....
It actually works. I purchased it because I didn't believe it worked and it does! This yo yo actually hooks on the fish 95% of the time. I attached a metal spring coil and parachute cord to make it easierto hand there anywhere and on they go. Now the o llyrics two problems I had was the clip and the size on the yo yo itself. The clip is no where near rated 60 pounds like the line and I know because a huge stripped bass broke it when I was running to retrieve it so I replaced it with a better clip. The yo yo itself is SMALL maybe 3.5 inches across so u really need to mark where u left it or it will disapear. Other than that this if a life saver in a survival situation so it's in by bug out bag as a just in case
John L. : Great quality and easy to use!
Worked great first time used. on a group fishing/camping trip! Used to dangle a few of these from a branch over the water. Worked great for catfish, eels, brim and even a snapping turtle! Easy to setup and use as well as being somewhat loud so if camping or tending to another line a little bit away can tell when it's triggered. This product if wired properly will even snatch the fish/animal out of the water.

Success and Tunes : You can play with this yoyo!
I purchased these fishing yoyos for my husband sher seeing then on some YouTube videos. He took them on a fishing trip with his dad and cousin and gave them one each. They all said they liked them, but they had to be careful in the setup because it would be easy for the line to be tripped.
I would recommend them, especially for this price.
kyle : Great for your tackle box
I've never used these before but I've heard a few people saying good things about them so I gave them a shot and I have to say they are a great thing to add to your tackle box. I ordered them on 2/13/15 and they came 2/15/15 so I am very happy with the shipping. They came around 1 in the afternoon and when they got to me I packed up my fishing gear and went fishing. I had a couple of them set up near where I was fishing baited with cutbait for flathead and they pulled up more flathead then I did with my fishing pole. I've only used them once so far but I can tell their gonna hold up and work for a long time. The biggest flathead I pulled up with one was 24.6 pounds and the'll most likely pull up much bigger in the feature. I am very satisfied with my purchase, they came to me in perfect condition already strung with some trotline and swivels tied to them. I do recommend them.

David Green : Living off the hook
Fantastically simple and effective, especially when one is living off the hook (sailboat) too, as fish get drawn to hide/swim under, and <k'boom>, breakfast is caught and keeping fresh near the surface!

sako96 : Flat Trigger fishing reels
I got the Flat Trigger fishing reels. Appear to be in good working order.

I am very impressed with these so far. I haven't had them out to find out how effective they are, but I have tested and adjusted them in the lab, so to speak. I'll give them four stars for how well they seem to work and try to do a follow up after I do a field test.
Cphp : Amazing craftsmanship
The quality of these things is outstanding. I bought these expecting to only get a few uses out of them but with quality like this they will be around for awhile. When the need arrises for more I will be back. Thanks for the great craftsmanship you don't find anymore with products.
Cory n henning : I played around with these though and seem like they are a great product
I have never used these but have watched them o lines. I played around with these though and seem like they are a great product. Shipped fast too!
