Answer: 5.1:1

What does the "size" mean on this item?

Answer: Size refers to the size of line and drag it can handle. Just as a reference I would say a 500 is for UL 1000 UL/L 2000L 3000M 4000MH 5000H. This isn't science but it should help. I use my 1000 on a 7ft UL and It is beautiful. Also go to your local wallmart. Mines sells these for a conperable price but you get to actually see the size of the reel.

Answer: Size determines amount and size line reel will hold.

What does clam mean

Answer: clam shell packaging. vs box

Answer: It's a sea creature, some people eat them.

Answer: clam is packaging like what you would see if it were hanging up in an outdoor store. Clear plastic case. Box is in a box.

Answer: Clam means it comes in a plastic cover , box means it comes packed in a cardboard box.

Answer: Clan is a see thru plastic casting, a box is not see thru and possible adds more protection during shipping

Answer: No difference from what I can tell. Bought one each way. However; watch out these reels handles unscrew very easily. I won't be buying another one due to having to re tighten it every few casts (seriously).

Answer: whatever you want. I fish for stripped bass with it, up to 4-5 lbs.

Answer: Right handed. Smooth action.

Answer: The handle is reversible and can be used on either side of the reel. All-in-all, a pretty nice reel for the money.

What size reel is good for a 6 foot pole

Answer: The reel is rated for line size not for the size of the pole you put it on. For example you could have a six foot pole that is stiff as a pool cue or you could have a six foot pole that as limber as a Willow Branch. Obviously the smaller reels= smaller line. larger reels larger line.. generally an all purpose reel would be a 25 or 30 in my opinion

Answer: not enough for manageable fishing

Answer: You can change the handle from one side to the other. So you can reel with your hand of choice.

Does this work for saltwater ?

Answer: It can. Just rinse it off really well with fresh water when you are done, and keep it lubed ????

Answer: 40 is a model type box just means it’s in a cardboard box

What size line and how much will it hold?

Answer: depends on on the line and type but probably about 110yds of 10lb braid easily

Very nice reel. The weight balances out my rod almost perfectly (5' U/L Ugly Stick). The only problem I have with the reel is that the bail doesn't easily close when winding down after the cast. I suppose more use will correct this in time, but it can be mildly annoying. Other than that, the max drag matches well if you're using 6lb. line. While I prefer 4 lb. test, the drag is smooth and easily dialed down.

Mine was ok but i think there was something wrong with the reel. I could here a rattle if i shook it at the right angle and then it would affect the smoothness of the reel.

I have been a loyal Abu Garcia angler since I was fifteen years old. I've used several of their products, beginning with a cardinal series reel. Since then, I've used Abu baitcasters and spinning reels. I've never had issues with Abu Garcia until now.
Last July, I bought this reel for my girlfriend. This reel was meant to replace her previous spinning reel, which had a broken bail. I got the reel and saw no initial issues. Unfortunately, we didn't go fishing for the rest of the year. Thus, we didn't discover the issue.
Fast-forward to April of 2020, and we are getting setup for a day on the water. We spooled line on no problem, but had major issues at the lake. Turns out the anti-reverse is broken. This was the first time using the reel. We are very disappointed, as the return window has closed.
The only reason I gave this product more than one star is because I have the same model reel-and I've experienced no issues. I truly believe Abu Garcia is an exceptional company. However, we certainly got a lemon.
