Questions about Tsunami Shield Spinning Reel
Q:
How durable is this real reason I’m asking is a fish hat in salt water
Answer: I use mine as much as I can and I love it. I’m in San Diego so I try to fish everyday if I can.
Q:
whats the line rating ?
Answer: I recp 30 to 65# braid. I use 30, and it holds at least 300 yds. Either is plenty for big bass. As a rule of thumb, old school measures apply... 200+yds of 20# mono is plenty. That said, go with 50# is you fish places like the cape cod canal, else 30 for open beaches.
Answer: I put on 30 lb Power Pro braid perfect for it 250 yards
Q:
Does the 6000 make a good striper fishing reel from shore
Answer: 6000 should be fine, I personally use a 5000

Mostly caught perch , spot , and catfish .... but have caught some stripers ! Its a tough reel ! I cant promise itll hold up to a ton of big ole stripers , but im willing to guess it would ! Its really a great reel ! It casts soooo nice !
Answer: I don’t know, 40 stripers is serious. Congratulations!

Q:
would the 6000 be a good balanced match for a tsunami 11’ surf rod
Answer: I have only owned it a couple weeks, but it is a solid reel. The 6000 model I think would be a good match for an 11’ surf rod
Answer: I have it piggybacking a 9’ Wright n McGill surf rod and it’s fantastic. Highly recommended for those big poon. It’s a relatively light reel for the size. You’re good buddy
Answer: Great match! Great reel!
Answer: Yes.
Q:
What’s the warranty on the Tsunami Shield like?
Answer: Customer service is great, but the Shield line of reels are not. Ended up sending mine back in exchange for a tsunami rod. The rods are awesome!
Q:
when will you be in stock again for the 5000 size?
Q:
How many turns per oscillation and height of line space?

Answer: yes
Q:

Answer: Yes.
Q:
what size should I get for a 9ft mojo surf?
Answer: For balance, I would pair my 9ft. Mojo with a 4000.
Answer: Don't get any size. These reels are junk. Get a Penn Slammer III 4500 or 5500 and you will be all set.
Answer: Anywhere from a 4000 to a 6000
Answer: Do not buy Shield reel, defective part on bail
Q:
This or Daiwa BG ?
Answer: I have both, I love both, shield with the bailess kit for for lures and jerkbaits,,,BG for everything else, I say go with BG first.
Answer: I would go with the bg. It might be a little heavier but I've had nothing but quirks and failures with the tsunami's I've ordered. Which is only 2 reels but both were defective out of the box
Answer: Do not purchase the Shield, looked like a great reel, but a part came off the bail, replaced part, but bail sometimes will not close, cleaned, still no luck.
Q:
May I ask who made this reel, is this made in china
Answer: Yes. It is made in China.
Answer: Unfortunately, almost everything is made in China.
Answer: Yes. China
Q:
Can you change the knob on this
Answer: Yes you can but why would you? The round ava handle works great with this reel. But I do prefer round over other shapes for handles. I replaced the standard handles on my VanStaals and Penn 706Z with round. Neither offered an Ava choice though.
Answer: yes
Q:
can this reel be converted to bailess configurarion?
Answer: Yes they sell a conversion for it.
Answer: Yes, the bailless kit is sold separately
Q:
Would it be a good match to shimano tiralejo trs100mha (basically 10 ft canal rod) for striper fising? thx
Answer: Yes, this reel should be a perfect match for that purpose. I also use this same exact reel on a 10'6'' Daiwa SP Coastal surf rod rated for 4 oz. at the Cape Cod Canal. Overall, it's a fairly light setup but it holds up very well. And I can't wait to use again when I go up to the Canal this weekend!
Answer: This rod would be perfect. We recommend it for our guys surf casting in the long island sound. Best bang for your buck out there right now. We'll spoil it for you prior to shipping so its ready to fish when you receive it.
Answer: Your combination is not a bad match. I prefer the Tsunami 9’ rod.
Answer: I don’t know
Q:
Is this a left and right handle ?
Answer: Either. The handle can be placed on either side.
Answer: Both
Q:
Can be used as right handed
Answer: Yes, right or left.
Answer: Yes. It comes with a tool to swap the crank handle to the other side.
Q:
Is this made in usa
Answer: Made in China.
Q:
is this all aluminum ?
Answer: 10-13 internal seals for water resistant protection
Q:
Why my handle is not a ball like on the picture
Answer: It could be that you got a 3 or 4000? The big guys have the ball handles.
Answer: Only the 5000 and up models have the round knob
Answer: Least of your worries, reel bail came apart , stopped functioning
Q:
What is the gear material made of?
Q:
What is the weight of the 8000?
Answer: The weight is 18.5 ounces. Thank you.
Answer: 18.8 oz Very light for a reel this size.
Q:
Does this have a ball knob or regular knob?
Answer: The 4000 model has a smaller flat EVA knob unlike the one shown in photo
Answer: regular flat knob
Answer: Regular
Answer: Regular
Q:
Need new drag nut knob does not tighten seems to be stripped threads in knob
Q:
would this be a good reel for 10-30lb catfish? will it last?
Answer: This is a salt water reel. I took a 32 pound Dorado with no problems with 20lb. test. The reel only holds a couple hundred yards of line so is limited that way. The reel is smooth and good quality for the price.
Answer: This reel is meant for saltwater surf fishing so some catfish up to 30lb should be no problem.
Answer: Save your money and buy penn instead. Had this reel just for couple of use and anti reverse gear broke. Unless you dont reeling both clockwise amd counterclockwise.
Answer: Yes this reel is extremely durable.
Q:
Would this go good on a 12ft surf rod? And does it have a ball knob?

Product reviews of Tsunami Shield Spinning Reel
Rich Thorn : Bail arm shuts during cast
Also have the issue of the bail arm flipping shut during the cast, never happens on any other spinning reel I have. Maybe they are a hit or miss reel.
Khoa Tran : Overall a solid reel, but has some weak components that will fail.
Reel handles quality fish well and lasted through an entire season of heavy pier fishing, but there are two components that are fragile and will end up failing. First is the drag cap. The audible clicker while adjusting the drag is fragile and will eventually fail. I adjust my drag a lot pier fishing, but still the clicker should not fail as easily as it has. I’ve replaced the drag cap twice already. Second is the spool clicker. It doesn’t break, but its components pop loose easily and won’t make an audible click when a fish pulls drag. If you take the spool off, you can fix it once you see how it works, but it’s just annoying. Other than that, it’d be a perfect reel for the price.
Amazon Customer : Very durable and cast very well.
I own a 6000 and 4000. I have fished the 6000 from the surf pretty heavy for over a year. It is still like new and I hardly ever rinse after use. There is also bail-less conversion kit available. The 4000 has also been great. Huge fan of these reels.
DoubleP's : Rock solid VALUE
Purchased 2, I seriously recommend the bailess conversion kit, this reel 6000 is such a beast i love my penn's and Diawa's but these shields are pure AF, they have lasted 2 season of slaying stripers, blues, from L.I Sound all this muscle for $125. You can't go wrong.
Carlito h. : Doubtful in washer lock part
It look nice, the only thing Iam worry is that some part are not screwed , only got a washer lock, did not catch any big one I hope it will perform well, and also the bail wire is slow and weak
Leonard S. Baker, Jr. : Great real for younsters.
Great!
Mario Sanchez : Great reel
This reel is awesome and the price is great I have a penn and shimano love the action on this reel. Not smooth like the shimano but awesome action I give it a 5 Star.
Gregory Remeslennik : great reel, works good, nice product for the terms of money.
great reel, works good, nice product for the terms of money.
KO : mine started making noise after spooling for the first time ...
mine started making noise after spooling for the first time. I did not have that problem with shied 3000 and 4000.
J Colson : Reel has issues - maybe replacement won’t?
Bail on reel started slamming shut after a month of use. Drag also toast after month of fishing. Contacted Bimini bay and got the run around. Not worth the money in my opinion
Update 7/15/2018 Received a replacement reel from Bimini Bay. Took 4 months to get it. They do stand behind their product. Hope the new reel doesn’t have the issues the old one had. Time will tell.
synic : Wrong image but decent reel
Buyer be careful the picture of product is a 5000+ model. Was really hopping to it had that handle for the surf fish. Aside from the misleading image the rest are decent, the reel held up against black fish off the jetty. The fact that it’s sealed really helps when fishing in salt water
Leonard S. Baker, Jr. : Great real for younsters.
Great!
Lauren : Totally worth it. 2 thumbs up!
Pair to a 7 foot heavy rod. Pulled in multiple AJs with no problems. Great reel!
Amazon Customer : Broken
Fell down while fishing snapped in half.
Amazon Customer : Failure of bail Pin
The C clip that holds the bail pin in came off while I was fishing, when I replaced the C clip I found the washer for that part was to thick and would not allow the C clip to secure the pin.
James Perry : Great reel, but there is just one issue.
Ok so I fish, I mean I fish 4 out of 7 days of the week. I have a lot of reels and this one is in my top 5. You may be wondering why I only gave it 4 stars, well I'll tell you why. There is just one little thing about this reel that annoys me, and that is the knob on the handle. I like the foam grip, that is not the issue. I fight some pretty big fish in the Canal. When cranking the reel the knob seems to click and move a bit on the handle. It's something that doesn't do anything to the performance its just annoying.
Everything else about the reel is great. It has a ton of seals which is awesome. It has a full metal body, I mean you just can't find a reel that's built like this with these many features at this price. Buy this reel. You'll love it. It can handle big fish with no problem. Spool it with some 40 or 50lb power pro and your ready to go. Tight lines folks!
Amazon Customer : Four Stars
Balances great w tsunami elite 9' rod. Gears stood the test of gator Bluefish blitz.
Mario Sanchez : Great reel

Highly recommend.. I got 2 of them and 2 of my use them to.. well worth the money.. I have it with 10ft mojo surf.

John Ramahlo Jr. : Great bang for the buck
A nice reel at a nice price. I've been impressed with Tsunami rods for their value and performance and this reel keeps with that tradition and hopefully shares the durability.
Cristian Dolcemascolo : Definately recommend this reel
Great quality. Smooth as butter
James G : So extremely impressed with this reel !

Billy : Smooth.. Compared to What?
It's more than adequate at a reasonable price and looks very nice. I did a little research and I may be wrong, but these look like a re-brand of an ACE reel from China. It has the same bearing count, same screw-less body, fully sealed as this one and even available with the same color pattern. The ACE branded reels have the same seals and line capacities. What appears to have changed from the ACE reel is the vent pattern on the spool, the ACE has an oval rubber grip instead of EVA and obviously the branding, Tsunami is a well respected brand for rods but I believe they have these reels commissioned instead of making them. The similarities are just too close to be a coincidence. I do believe it to be a well made reel and I was not able to find the ACE model in sizes above 5000. The ACE brand sells for considerably less but you have to order directly from China and I suspect getting spare parts if you need them would be difficult to say the least.
As far as "Smoothness" of the reel is concerned it's not bad by any means but you can certainly feel the resistance of the 13 seals while winding. It sort of feels like you are retrieving a small weight before you even add line. This isn't a deal breaker for me as 95% of my fishing is in fresh water and this reel would not be used for that at all. I can certainly put up with it's less than stellar smoothness for a couple trips a year. I bought this to go on an 8'-6" tuna popping rod and it is a well balanced match. My son wanted a reel for the same exact rod and since he generally uses the next size down I ordered him an ACE50A direct from China for a little more than half the cost of the Tsunami Shield 5000. I will report back once I receive it and determine if I am right about these being the same basic reel. All things considered, I am not disappointed in this reel and if I wanted another budget size 6000 reel I would probably buy it again.
UPDATE: Eight days after paying for the ACE50A from an eBay seller direct from China and several days after seller posted a tracking number they contacted me to tell me they don't have the reel is stock at all even though they still have it listed with a quantity of 10 in stock.
I just asked for a refund from the (less than honest) seller. I won't be comparing the Tsunami to the ACE50A at all and will be buying my son a Tsunami instead. Even at half price it's not worth the trouble.
Jami : False advertising and faulty equipment
Reel handle cap stud was cross threaded in so it striped out where you screw in the Handel then it shows it coming with an oversized reel handle and it didn’t also was supposed to come with 200 yards of 20 braid and it didn’t so a total fail!!
Amazon Customer : Very durable and cast very well.

baicu relav : Class
Strong, good
Joey K : Good saltwater reel for round 100 dollars.
Used for surf and inshore fishing. Works good but a little stiff at first. I attribute the stiffness to the fact that this reel is sealed better than most.
Carlito h. : Doubtful in washer lock part
