Answer: I am using a 2 pc 5 foot styk, and it works find. We only fish in the surf here. The spinner works beautifully

Answer: I had the same problem, I went through two of these that busted on me after very light use (well, one after zero use, it made it to the spool up and busted), so I assume there is certainly an authenticity as well as a quality issue here.

I bank fish for sturgeon on the Snake River in Idaho. I caught an eight footer last summer and am now addicted. I bought this reel for my spare rod. It is decent. If you are on a budget or just setting up extra loaner gear it's decent. It is not as solid as my Penn fierce 2 reel but it will reel in a sturgeon. Holds a little less line than the Penn fierce 2 8000 size. But the drag is heavy duty. It will do the job. I knocked off one star for line capacity and it doesn't feel as tough as a Penn but half the cost as a Penn.

I got this for my husband on Father's Day and he's not a rough guy by any means. The reel's spring popped out and he tried fixing the thing. I don't think it was worth $50 for it.

I used 20lb fluorocarbon line and took this to the beach for surf fishing. The reel is well balanced and the drag was smooth. It casts a long way. Out performed my other reel by far in distance. The reel was powerful and retrieved the line and fish even in rough surf without a problem.
