Daniel W. : UPDATE: Two trips, three fish, and BUSTED!
UPDATE: So after catching three fish on this thing across two trips, the drag was completely stripped. I even store it with the drag completely loosened, and none of the fish I caught were outrageous fights. So I ended up down one line in the water, which was a major let down. In my first review of this reel, I mentioned I knew I was taking a serious gamble with a budget reel, and have learned my lesson. I won't stray away from reels like Penn Spinfishers or Slammers for surfcasting. If you want one of these maybe it's not too late to go dig mine out of the trash can I tossed it in at the beach. My new Penn Slammer III 9500 will be here today, so I'm excited to get something reliable and tough out on the shoreline on my next trip out. ----------------------------------------------- UPDATE: The seller made right and contacted me about my unfortunate experience with the reel mentioned above. Once I was able to finally get this thing out on the Florida Gulf to try it out, I have some product-centric points to cover. First off, there is no grip-ring on the inner spool, meaning that it is difficult to get the spool to start catching while putting on new line. Secondly, the majority of the body is made of plastic, so versus something like an aluminum body these types of reels are more prone to warping, meaning misaligned gears will cause issues in the future. Otherwise, I had a great experience with my first trip out on this reel, I used it on a 12-foot Diawa Beefstick II rod for a food-chain catch, and on some pieces of Whiting I pulled in a 5 pound Hardhead Catfish and a small 6 pound Blacktip shark at night. I definitely won't take a gamble with a more "cost effective" reel in the future, so I wouldn't buy again, but I am willing to put this thing through the test of time to see how it stands up long-term and don't regret the purchase since the seller replaced the busted unit. ----------------------------------------------- I went to spool this thing up for a trip tomorrow, and after several successful rounds of reeling it, the mechanism busted and now the reel doesn't have any winding action. I knew I was taking a serious gamble with a cheaper reel, but it's not even Dr. Fish. Junk. I added the picture of the busted washer. Just think, a little more quality at this single point of failure would have saved the day.
Larry : Big Sturdy Reel
Really like the sturdiness of these reels. Serious feel and capability. However, the spare reel is nothing like the one on the reel. Sure hope it is as strong!
melvin : Great product high powered drag
Love it
Nme67 : Not a saltwater reel
The handle has corrosion even after cleaning from the surf each time and oiling. The reel worked nicely…

lori winner : does not like saltwater
I purchased 2 of these reels, really liked the first one until I let it sit for a month. When I tried to use it it was locked up. When I opened it up it was full of solid gunk, that is the best way to describe it. It was past the return date so I could not return it. I purchased another one and really rinsed it off after fishing after 3 days of fishing it once again locked up so I returned it. I was surf fishing in SPI. Might be a good fresh water reel but can not recommend for salt water. DR. Fish has been great, they gave me a new reel free, but same results. this is not a good saltwater reel. It rusts faster than a ford in Chicago
Dennis A. Kahula : No ball bearings
I used it, and am very happy with my purchase.m
