Questions about 4 Mechanical Fisher's Yo Yo Fishing Reels -Package of 4 Reels- Yoyo Fish Trap -(FLAT TRIGGER MODEL)
Q:
Isn't the 60 lb test on the line too much for smaller fish? Wouldn't it be better to put my own line on it like 10 lb test or something similar?
Answer: I put a spring on mine where I can use 10-12 pd test. Without a spring if your tide off to a limb a decent fish will break 10 pd because there isn't any give in it
Answer: I'd probably leave the heavier line on as this reel is designed for survival, and you want to keep any fish that happen to bite. If you put smaller line on, you might lose the fish. This is designed for sitting there, unlike a regular rod where you cast and reel, and where a heavier line might be noticed by the fish. Hope this helps.
Answer: I don't think that's possible... Stronger line will catch small fish and bigger fish.. If you put less strong line, you will limit yourself to just small fish
Answer: You could add it to the stronger line.
Answer: naw never had a problem with it
Q:
does this yo yo reel have a drag system?
Answer: The spring is the drag. Unable to adjust like a normal reel.
Answer: No drag but it works like it does.
Answer: No, You can put a spring in between the yo yo and tree limb though. Works good.
Answer: The drag system is a strong spring. When the fish bites, the hook is set by spring tension. The spring tension continues to pull on the fish until you unhook it. When I set the YoYo at night and check it in the AM, many of the fish I've caught have their heads out of the water. The spring tension is strong and consistent, and the fish just get tired.
Answer: Its spring loaded so in a way it does
Q:
Are these reusable? Or are they a one catch only? Are they legal in all states?
Answer: The mechanical fisher is reusable and its legal in my country
Q:
any suggestions for a case to storage in?
Answer: I put mine in PVC. Cheap, crush proof, paintable, floats...
Answer: Use something waterproof, and store them in rice. They build calcium a lot and don't last long
Q:
If these are set overnight, will it pull the fish out of the water causing it to die before you retrieve it?
Answer: What I found is they will react to pressure, sinking the hook, they by no means will pull a fish from the water....however small enough ones may. I set them low and close to the water to avoid excessive wear on the spring
Answer: No ,they only hook the fish it remains in the water
Answer: Not likely. It has just enough pull to keep steady tension on the line. Depending on where you set it and how much line you adjust it for it should only take the fight out of the catch. IMO a great item to have while camping or survival situations. Set a few up then come back later.
Q:
I’m a Beginner at fishing are these easy to use?
Answer: So I originally bought these for it’s other uses, like a clothes line for camping or at the beach. I tried the jug fishing once, but never caught anything. You don’t have to actively use it. It’s a set it and forget it type of fishing. I keep this in my bug out bag. Good luck.
Answer: They are. However the dont last very long without care, and larger fish will spool the line before hooked, which for me got a fish, but the device was unrepairable
Q:
How much weight will the yo yo reel up. i've seen 8 lb. on here, but what's the limit? thanks
Answer: I really doubt it will reel up 8 lbs, the yoyo really just sets the hook for you, that's all. Works extremely well with smaller fish...
Answer: I've caught some 10-12 lb shoepick with no issue.
Q:
What states is it legal to fish with the yo-yo reels?
Q:
Hello, did these come with the instruction card? It's not needed, just wondering because mine didn't.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: no card was needed the link on you tube did it better
Answer: There was minimal information on the plastic bag they were packed in. There is a ton of information available on youtube for tips and tricks and specialty uses from fishing to catching birds and lots more. Google "youtube mechanical fisher's yo-yo" and you can spend hours planning what to do with these great tools. Fantastic value for the buck.
Answer: Mine did not, but it is pretty self-understanding if you play with it a bit.
Q:
Exactly what does one of these reels weigh and what are its measurements?
Answer: 53g/1.9 oz. 2.5”x3”x.5” thick. Out the pack with line and swivel.
Q:
what size is the attachment hole? can you tie one of these down with paracord?
Answer: Yes, I have done that very thing.
Q:
Can I use this reel for fishing while snorkeling off the seashore having it hanging from my belt to keep the line from entangling?
Answer: I doubt it would work hanging from your belt while snorkeling. YoYo reels are meant to be used on unmanned limb lines or dock lines. The reels are spring loaded to retract line when the line is tugged. I like to set them at night and check them in the AM.
Answer: I hope your not serious....so you want a lure attached to you for a shark??? Instead..attach it to a float and an anchor of sufficent weight. Also using you head for something other than a hat rack would help extend your life......
Answer: I doubt it. it has a hair trigger and it’s probably illegal
Q:
I seen another Yo-Yo fishing line made by the same company, but it is a standard wire trigger whereas this is a flat trigger model, what's the diffrence?
Q:
Will these still work if you add extra string to the end of the existing line?
Answer: the line on the spool is limited. IF you do this, just get one length of string ,due to possibility of jamming
Answer: I used these to bank fish for catfish. I added a hook on a leader along with a weight to keep the bait submerged and they worked very well. The spring tension is very firm and I'm confident they will work with added line as long as it's not excessive ( more than a 3 feet).
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
Can these be used for salt water fishing?
Answer: not if you would catch a large fish (i.e. bull red, etc.) It could work for sandtrout/speckled trout, but i would rate this as a fresh water asset.
Answer: I only used in fresh water but de dust stuck the mechanism and maybe will happen de same thing with the salt
Q:
What spring would you use between this and a tree limb whan you tie it off?
Answer: I have been using bungee cords on mine. These work and I have caught 4 lb cat fish on these. I normally set these up when we arrive at site and then start making my site ready for the night. I usually have a fish within an hour or so. These are a must have in any back pack to sustain you if needed. I do not use for "normal" fishing only when we back pack a few miles in and set up for a week stay with only what fits in a back pack.
Q:
Would a fish with teeth be able to cut the line?
Answer: The line for the reel goes to the achor point. The line on the bait and hook is your preferance. I use leader line and braided.
Answer: If you're talking about shark yes , but most fish just use a steel leader and you would be fine
Q:
Hook included?
Answer: It is the mechanism, no hooks.
Answer: Nope
Answer: Not sure, but don't think so. Bought for survival pack, have never used.
Product reviews of 4 Mechanical Fisher's Yo Yo Fishing Reels -Package of 4 Reels- Yoyo Fish Trap -(FLAT TRIGGER MODEL)
Melvin S. : Gators go after them too
Works very well
Cheryl : Great small game snare
Does as advertised and even more than just fishing. Great small game snare. Warrenty void if you drill out the hole that secures the unit to a limb. I did that so I could put a longer length of paracord to it. Great value @a great price. I've heard some states have these outlawed so it's advisable to check your state laws.
B+ : I'd buy them again A+++
Excellent idea. You can stack these to fish deeper.
martinhuerta : Worked great
I tied one up on a tree limb next to where I was fishing, put a size 8 bait hook tied it with a Snell knot on an 8 inch long 50 pound braided line leader, put some corn on it and didn't expect to catch nothing big, next thing you know the limb was shaking like crazy and this yoyo pulled up a 8 pound carp. I caught nothing this day and the yoyo caught 3 carp, so I'd say it works pretty good, turtles seem to set it off without hooking though watch out for those.
S. Mastroianna : I like these!
Nice addition to the pack. Set these and go to sleep, they'll do the rest. As with any other fishing tool, you will need to have fish present for them to catch one.
Carolinagirl : Four Stars
Have not had a chance to use them yet but I sure can't wait to see how they perform.
P : Great!
These reels are great for fishing as well as snaring (check out YouTube for instructions on how to use them for both purposes). The reels operate smoothly and seem well-constructed. You can reduce the tension by manually removing loops of line from the reel before winding it out, or increase the tension by spooling some line out then manually winding it back onto the reel (while holding the reel to prevent it from spinning). This is a very versatile tool!
The "flat trigger" refers to the pivoting part of the reel (where the line passes through). Flat triggers seem more robust and more sensitive than the other type, which consists of a bent wire with a loop.
The seller, HogWilder, has a great YouTube video explaining how these reels work: youtube dot com/watch?v=XZi3Vh1b-nM
sobeit : Nice survival tool to keep in bug out bag or your car.
I’m only using these as a survival tool that I keep in my bug out bag. They appear to be well made (in the U.S. and not China amazingly) and will do the job of catching fish while leaving me time to do other things. No instructions were included…minor inconvenience. Be sure to keep some bank line handy because the yo yo’s didn’t come with enough line to hang from tree limbs, etc. Overall, happy with purchase.

Loved these. Much better than other versions that I have purchased.
Justin : Good Yoyos.
Good quality. Sensitive trigger mechanism. I replaced the snap swivel with a 60# barrel swivel to #6 barbed hook. Using these to catch carp.
tcroc : Made in the USA!!
I have not had a chance to use this yet, but the uses are infinite! I plan on using these for camping. Plenty of youtube videos explaining how to use this. Good quality too.
Sgt. Pitbull : Purchase two packs, these things are great
Finally used this last weekend, worked as it should caught several 10lbs

Ed Peters : Get Ya Some
This is a great product for limb fishing & snaring. They are priced right, quality made, and they were delivered quickly. I highly recommend Fisher YoYo reels, and HogWilder as a supplier.
Chevy0846810 : These little things are great!! So much fun. Excellent for survival/Camping/Bug-out purposes. Light but effective.
I love these little things! These seem to be solid and sturdy with quality construction. They are exactly as stated and absolutely serve their purpose. The spring load (pull strength) seems surprisingly light, but supposedly work more on constant pressure rather than strong pull. They do not seem to be as heavy and sturdy as the ones we used as kids, but not sure that's a bad thing. Thinner lighter metals and materials, but still strong enough to catch and hold anything I would expect to catch. I have put two in my tackle box and two in my survival/bug-out bag. Been years since I've used yo-yo reels, but these things are a blast to fish with and could really be a time/life saver in a survival/camping/bug-out situation.

Catching fish off the dock is fun! Learning to fish with my husband is priceless!

Great addition to my bug-out bag. You never know when they may come in handy. Much more compact than a rod and reel.

Scott A. : Awesome....must have in your bugout/backpack.
WOW, What an awesome thing to have with you on your backpacking trips etc. I went out hiking with a group a friends a long a river in Texas. First thing I did once agreed on where to stop for the night was to locate some grubs to use as bait (this was a survival test for us) Once we located some grubs I set these up and went back to camp to start setting up sleeping area and make fire etc. Two hours later I went to check on the first one and had a 2 lb cat on the line the second one had a 3 lb cat...awesome, very little energy spent on this and already had some food for us. I did as a youtuber did and connected these with a bungee cord to make sure I did not lose one. Works great and everyone at camp has either purchased these or have on the list to purchase. They are light and take up very little room in your backpack. Going to purchase more as gifts to some of my family and friends....a must have in you "bugout" bag/backpack. I have only used them on two trips but caught fish everytime and within 3 hours at the most. UPDATE: I gave a few of these away to friends and they are now believers. We go out every month or so to "test" our gear etc. and we have a small river by our camp site. I have set these out every time and have caught fish every time. The largest fish we caught on these was a 8 lb. catfish and it was so tired it was practically floating when we retrieved it. We have abused these and left them in the river for weeks due to heavy rains flooding them, once we were able to get back to them they were still in good shape.
Steven Samonsky : Just tested the action

I guess they work??? i have no use for these, and hopefully never will, however they are in mine and my wifes bug out bag, in case stuff happens. Since i have no idea how to fish and anything, i figure it's best just to hang a ling over a lake and have automatic fishing setup for me, while i do other things like survive, it does "snap" well, so theres that.
