Answer: I would classify the Shimano R1000 as a lightweight reel. Although it will fit on an Ultra Lite rod and you can put 4LB test on it- it's just slightly larger than an UltraLite reel. It is durable and transporting it in a backpack should not pose an issue.

Answer: This model is a light duty spinning reel. It is meant for small game fish like bluegills, crappie, small bass or trout. I don't know how well it would stand up to salt water use. My guess is that since it is a modestly priced reel, the internal parts are not brass or stainless steel which would resist corrosion. I don't know how large corbina are so I can't say if this reel is adequate. I would consider a reel specifically made for saltwater use.

If you're referring to rainbow trout, sure !! Perfect ! ........but if you're referring to the sea run you might need more muscle. Buy one it's no way a waste of money.

Answer: It's adjustable via of the read drag spindle...For me, depending on what pound line I use, I generally adjust it to my own specs. That can be anywhere from very little drag to no drag at all. Generally I will test it on dry land prior to using it to approximate where I think it will feed w/o breaking the line.

Answer: If i understand the question correctly, be aware that unlike my other reel, this one allows up to one full rotation of backward movement before clicking locked forward, and once that click forward to the next one you still have a rotation worth of play before it clicks again, etc. This doesnt bother me too much when fishing, but it make it hard to stow your hook on the hook keeper when walking around as it might be either too loose to stay on or it might have to bend the rod too much when you pull it one rotation forward.

Answer: Anti-reverse is not "infinite", meaning it will spin back until the quickfire trigger is dead top where your finger is. Some people do not like this and complain that it is a flaw. It is not a flaw, it is a necessary design so the quickfire trigger always ends at top. I got used to it very quickly and like them very much.

I have owned this series of reel since I was 6 years old, and I'm 31 now, they have not quit. I own 4 of these in different sizes. The 1000 is plenty for your average freshwater fish under 3 pounds. The 2000 feels almost exactly the same but has a slightly bigger spool, very close in weight, feel, and ability to reel in a fish. I use mine with 4 lb. test line, sometimes up to 6 lb. test if I expect to hook a carp or larger trout. Pairs extremely well with Sufix line, and an ultralight action rod to light action rod.

Rear drag is convenient so you're not sticking your fingers in screaming line trying to tighten drag, and the quickfire II system makes casting a breeze. I love how this reel always resets with the Quickfire trigger ready for casting. Not many brands have this feature and it makes for some very easy and precise casting.

Total number of fish caught on these reels in 25 years probably over a thousand by now, with an average of a dozen or more fish per outing. This reel has handled small panfish to 4 lb trout and every bass size in between with ease. Corrosion will set in if you don't rinse them after exposure to salty water, but they still function even if they're not pretty.

In short: perfection.

It's ok for $13. Had to remove the trigger, because the line would hang on it when casting, even when opening the bail manually. This throws it out of balance. So, I have to get it to work with the trigger, or find a way to balance it without the trigger. Just wanted a super cheap ultralight setup for camping that wouldn't be missed if broken or lost. Kind of wish I had spent an extra $10 for another Kastking Centron.

I have spent a lifetime chasing everything from bluegills to Chinook salmon, was a licensed charter captain as well. I needed a couple light reels fishing for whitefish off a dock. Thought I'd give them a try and was quite surprised how well they are built. The retrieve rate is slow compared to other mini reels I have used, however the drag works well, very smooth and easy to use while fighting a fish. If your looking for an inexpensive reel for light duty fishing, this is a great buy.

I bought one of these from Academy Sports and Outdoors when I got back into fishing and it lasted me 3 years. Very decent real, I love the "trigger" for 1 handed casting. It's also very tough. I fished the full moon one night and caught a 9lb, 5lb and 2 3lb catfish all in one night with 6lb test line on thos reel paired with a cheap walmart rod. The fights were epic lol. But it finally gave out on me this year, well I wouldn't say gave out but the drag slips a bit. So I I got another one from amazon. If I get 3 years out of this one for 12.99 I'd say that's money well spent.

Smooth as silk light reel! Works like a charm for me with my 5' Ugly Sticks! I can catch bass with 10lb spider wire or trout on 4 pound mono....it is great for all and strong! Just order some extra spools so all you do is change out for different fish type!

It is a basic spin cast reel that provides reliable service. It's not going to compare to a $200 one, but it doesn't even cost $20, and it reels in fish. It has a relatively smooth drag for the price. The only thing that I don't like is that it may take almost a full revolution to catch. Again, for the price you won't get this kind of quality from anyone but Shimano.

I am new at fishing and this is my first reel purchase. When I got to mount it, it did not fit properly as I have a pole from another manufacturer. This reel has a slim base for mounting, and I had to add double sided tape as shims and tied it down with rope along with the locking nut of the pole. Now the reel is nice and tight on the pole. I had two to three tangling issue when I got to use it for fishing, but the fact that you can reverse the reeling made it easier for me to fix the problem. There is a loose tab on the reel close to where the line is being guided to the rim and I have no idea what it is for. It is the reason for my tangling problems and I may have to remove it. Other reels do not have this loose tab. Overall I am satisfied though. My friends got their fishing gears at the blue megastore and they had more problem than I did.

I bought this real for a very short (Emmrod) pole. I wish I had gotten the smaller size (and used lighter line), but that was my fault. But is does seem to be physically larger than some other reals I have, that have larger spools. The real works well, no complaints on its operation and functions.

Great little real for the price. I like the rear drag because it’s easy to reach. The quick trigger mechanism that puts the line and bail right at your finger tip is slick, but probably unnecessary for most. The only thing I dislike is the low gear ratio. It’s very slow. But for the price, it’s a solid little reel.

Reel functions well. Drag is fairly smooth. More plasticy than I expected, but it feels sturdy, it's good quality fiber reinforced. I fished 4 hours with it so far and no issues.

but I have had other cheap reels that are much better. the trigger unit is very poor and the reel is to tall for one handed grip the take up is very rough and in fact noisy.

I is ok, but I prefer the 2000 much better. The spool ratchet tightens up better on the 2000 and doesn't do that with the 1000 as well. But in all a decent ultralight reel. I use these reel on my telescopic rods.

Bought my second one of these in 15years,not because the original has any problems, but because I built my Dad a rod and wanted him to have a reliable reel for light fishing that was dependable. My old reel has caught thousands of trout over the years and I've never even relubed it. Drag isn't the smoothest, reeling isn't either...but it works, and keeps on working.

For those curios: I have two of the 2000's and this 1000. The 2000 and 1000 are the exact same reel with different spools installed.

These are great moving water reels. By that I mean creeks/streams and rivers. The 4:1 gear ratio is excellent for spoon and spinner retrieval in moving water. I find it a little slow for ponds and lakes, but it just requires a little more speed on my part to get the proper action from lures in still waters. As they are at 4:1, so long as you choose the proper weight of lure for your water, it's very comfortable to get spinners like panther martins running as intended or to get the right action on a spoon like a krocodile etc.

The drag control being on the bottom of these reels adds to the length/size of them, but it's also conducive to good balance. I suppose some of it depends on the rod you choose, but I have this 1000 paired with a 4 piece 5' ugly stick and the balance point is exactly behind the trigger ahead of the mount. When I had a much more expensive front drag control reel on the 4 piece, the balance point was at least an inch and a half further forward. I have one of the 2000s on a medium/light 7' ugly stick and the balance point is exactly behind the trigger ahead of the mount. ... It may not matter to everyone where the balance point is, but when I was a kid, I was taught it matters for long and/or accurate casting. My decades of experience tell me it seems to be true that the balance point relationship to the position of your hand while casting makes a big difference.

My oldest lx2000 is a two-tone grey/black and has to be getting close to 25 or more years old. It has been in service the whole time. I couldn't even guess how many thousands of casts or hundreds of fish it has reeled in. So, durability and reliability are worth mention. Just because these reels are inexpensive doesn't mean they are cheap. They hold up well.

Very decent reel! You get what you pay for. The trigger makes the novelty worth it in my opinion. On the box it comes with every part # along with what it is named.

I use this reel with my ultra light 5'6" shimano rod with p-line co-polymer 4lb test line. Its not as light as others that I have, but it is the one I use the most. I let my young daughter use it when we are both out fishing and she catches trout all the time with it. I love having the rear drag system and wish more reels would use it. It's a nice affordable reel, and has lasted me several years. Biggest trout caught in my area have been hatchery triploids and they ranged between 14-17". Usual lake rainbow trout catches here are around 8-12". Has an extra tab to help with casting that other reels normally don't have. It doesn't have a bunch of ball bearings like other reels advertise, but it performs great either way for the trout I catch with it.
