what model year is this reel? 2011? 2014?

Answer: I believe it's a new model, I've got it from manufacturer a week ago. Don't think it could be 2011, but there's no model year on the package.

Is this the supxtsp35x which list for $149.00?

Answer: I am not 100% sure because I ordered it for my son but I know it was listed for quite a bit more than he paid

Is this reel good for saltwater fishing?

Answer: Saltwater reels need to be sealed for protection from the salt. This is a top notch reel for fresh water fishing and sure it would fish just as well in Saltwater for how long though is anyone's guess. If you broke it down and cleaned it a lot it might be fine. Good Saltwater reels are big money for a reason.

I am looking for a freshwater reel for steelhead and salmon, which is better mdl. 35 or 40, using 9'8" si fishing rod.

Answer: The 40 would be a better reel. More pounds available on the drag. I use my 40 for walleye and smaller norther pike.

Answer: I think you meant 35’ not 35”. It should hold 30 to 35 yds. without issue.

Answer: Fishing for Pike, the 40 would be best. You might be able to get by with a 35. Musky is another story. The bigger the better. These are relatively small reels and must be matched to a rod capable of handling this formidable preditor.

Answer: It's perfect for bass...a little oversized for panfish (but would work). I would look more at the 25 (SUPXTSP25X)for those. The 30 would be the better all-around choice if you're going to only get one. All three of them are great reels. Hope that helps.

Supxtsp35x i purchsed this reel and paired it up with a 9' 9" lamaglass rod. how will it hold up to the coho salmon out here in the pnw fishies.

Answer: I use the same setup. My rod 10”. Should be fine up to about 10lbs. Caution though on braided line and bigger fish. These are small reels.

6’6” GLoomis spinning rod which size reel

Answer: These reels tend to run small. I have a 35 with a 7' Loomis. Depending on the taper and use, determines 35 or 25. Fast taper 4-6# line,25.the 35 with 6 or 8#. There are extra spools available from third party supply. They do not look like the OEM but works fine.

Answer: Yes. Just unscrew the handle and the cap on the opposite side and flip them

Answer: I have a 35 and use it with 7" Fenwick and it works well. If it is a heavier glass rod it will work fine as these reels run on the small side. If the rod is composite the next size down may work better.

Answer: I would go with the 35. I have never fished for northerns, but It works great for Bass. Filled mine with 20# Power Pro. Good luck

Answer: I would get the 35 fore pike. If you are worried about too much line to fill you can leave 1/3 of it on for backing when changing line. I love the reel by the way. I have one on each of my St. Croix jig rods

Answer: Depends on braid or mono. Rod type also needs to be considered.

After years of fishing with lower end equipment I was looking to treat myself to an upgrade and began researching to look for the best reel I could get for my money...I am a huge value consumer always looking for the best balance of price/quality. Over and over I saw the Pflueger Supreme XT in various articles. I went for the 30 and paired it with a 6 ft Medium action Ugly Stik GX2 and couldn't be happier. Mainly fishing freshwater in Rhode Island for Bass/Pickerel/ect this is the perfect reel for me, I highly recommend!

Peter : Very Good Reel, But Had Problem with Sticking Handle

I like this reel because it is light. I also like the softer handle. After using the reel a couple weeks I noticed it wasn't very smooth. Then around day 35 (note that this was just after the 30-day return period to Amazon) the handle started badly sticking. I couldn't fish any jerk baits because you'd have to give too much pressure to get the handle unstuck and cranking again once you stopped cranking. I called Pflueger and they said I could send the reel in for warranty repair, but I didn't want to be without a reel for that much time (yes, my only other reel is an ultralight) and I didn't want to pay for the shipping cost. So, I asked the rep if I could take apart the reel without voiding the warranty and he said yes, since customer service said I could do that. I took apart the reel just down to the major components and found a small hard piece of something inside, see attached pictures. Not sure where that piece came from, nothing else inside seemed broken. I removed the piece and put the reel back together. Works very good now without any sticking. Although the reel is not quite as super smooth as other reviews have mentioned.

The reel worked great at first but after fishing about a week of bass fishing the bearings appear to going out. When using crank baits the handle will be difficult to turn at certain spots. Tried putting lubricating and didn't seem to make a difference, going to try in contact Pflueger.

Nice Reel for the money. I tore the reel down and went through it completely. All the gears and Bearings are quality materials. Tested the drag at several different tension and it was smooth throughout. First fish on this reel was a 20# striper caught on topwater. Handled it with no problem.

My favorite spinning reel

This is my 4th Pflueger reel and my 2nd 'Supreme' reel. My other Supreme is the standard version. I got this to work on both my trout rod (ultra light) and my salmon rod (much stiffer). This size is a perfect balance between size, weight, and sensitivity. I loaded it up with 20lb braid and simply change the leader based on the specific application.

The construction is typical Pflueger quality. Solid, well machined, and visually flawless. The colors really make this pop with it being primarily black with orange highlights. The carbon fiber handle is a nice touch and the EVA foam knob is comfortable without being slick if it gets wet or grimy. The bail is exceptionally thick without being heavy giving it a very solid feel. Flipping the bail for casing is easy with zero bend or slop in the mechanism and it clicks nicely into place letting you know you are ready to rock.

The thing that really turned me to this specific model of the Supreme was the weight savings. This is VERY light which keeps the balance on my custom trout rod in the middle of the forward grip but it has performance where it counts. The drag is plenty stout for just about any salmon short of a king. First time I hooked up I had the drag set a bit too high and was almost yanked out of the boat when a seal figured my salmon made for a good snack LOL. Other action - forward/reverse, bail set, etc was smooth as glass.

Considering the fact that this reel handles everything from 2lb trout to 14lb salmon, I don't figure I'll need to purchase another reel for a long time but when I do, this is the one I'll pick up.

It's one of the best reels in the business, smooth, lite, strong and flawless. For the money it's a bit steep but I've paid more for Shimano reels and they just don't cut it. This is truly a supreme reel.

Really like the light weight and the smoothness of the reel but very poor quality. After six months of maybe every other weekend use, the bearings are locked up and the reel is no longer able to spin. My Pflueger President lasted longer than this and at 1/3 the price! Will not buy Pflueger anymore!
