Questions about Mitchell 300Pro Spinning Fishing Reel
Q:
What is the difference in the 310pro and the 310pro-c
Answer: It's not a combo. It's actually the packaging. So the 310pro comes in a box and the the 310pro-c come in a plastic clamshell.
Answer: Pro-c is a rod and reel combo. I answered earlier and thought maybe it was spool size. I just googled it and that is all I found to be different
Q:
Can this reel be changed from right to left hand usage?
Q:

Answer: Not sure, I think you can, that is a great reel for sure, I have 2 of them
Answer: Yes
Q:
whats the difference between this reel and the 310 pro ?
Answer: The 310 reel has a smaller spool and is meant for smaller ultra light rods. Both are great reels. I use both for trout and bass.
Answer: Go with the 308 Pro it has Ten ball bearings versus eight. 135 yard capacity and is so much smoother. Well worth the extra money
Q:
What is the gear ratio of the 300 pro?
Answer: 5.8: 1

Q:
My old 300 had two spools, 1 deep and 1 shallow. The new 300Pro shows only a deep spool. Is a shallow spool available?
Q:
Which rod comes with the 308-c? Is it the one piece or 2 piece rod? 6 or 6.5ft? Medium light or medium?
Answer: You can order a light 6 foot rid, but be careful the rod 6.5 rod I ordered was shipped (fully assembled) by the seller in a 5 foot carton with one foot of rod sticking out of the box. Needless to say it arrived broken. And Amazon has not taken any responsibility for replacement
Q:
What type of spool does this use?

Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
How many days/business days will it take to arrive?
Q:
Understanding that the spools hold a different amount of line, but are the spools of a 300Pro and a 308Pro interchangeable?
Answer: I believe the 308 reel is smaller then the 300 reel. Which means spool physical size would be different.
Q:
Is this the 500, 2000 or 4000 reel? The specs for line it can hold.
Answer: 3000 series I think. I use 10 lb mono which works nicely.
Q:
How is the 300 C and 300 Pro different?
Q:
what's the difference between the 308 and 308-c? Carbon fiber?
Answer: The 308 is in a box, 308c is in a clamshell plastic.
Answer: The c is a very smooth surface
Q:
This is completely useless zero description of the reel gear ratio how many yards fishing string
Answer: Google it. Mitchell’s Pro Series reels are great, priced well below their level of quality. If it meets tour requirements I would not hesitate to buy. I love the 308 but it seems to have been discontinued and all have been bought up everywhere I’ve looked. The 300 is a bit bigger, about like most 40 series spinning reels.
Answer: Gear ratio 5.8:1 Mono line capacity 210/10# 180/12# 150/14# Braid line capacity 290/10# 260/12# 180/14#

Answer: Timothy- the new Mitchell 300 pro series feels just as solid as my old 300 did --- i will be using my new 300 in idaho this spring salmon stealhead
Answer: Mitchell pro series reels being sold everywhere are seriously lacking in specifications. See http://fishmitchell.com/mitchell_300_pro/ for all the info. You should also check out the Mitchell Pro Series Combos!
Q:
Is the new 300Pro the same size, larger or smaller than the original 300? And how about the 308Pro relative to the original 300?
Answer: It is a little smaller.
Q:
specsifications
Q:
how do I get extra spools for a 308Pro?
Q:
Which size would you recommend for bass or northern fishing?
Answer: What size and weight fish do you expect? 10 to 15 lbs. The 300Pro is sufficient. I mistakenly bought it thinking it was the modern model of the legendary 300.: I had intended it for masheer.
Q:
How much 20lb test will mitchell 300pro 4000 reel hold ?
Answer: I use spiderwire braid. 20lb is like 4lb diameter. The reel holds a lot. I dont use mono line.
Answer: It’s hard to answer your question because I didn’t measure the line when I was spooling the reel. I do use 20 lb test line. I have enough line to fish from the shore or bank. You have to be careful about how much line you spool, because it will start unwinding from the reel causing you frustration. Then you have to cut the line until it stops unraveling on its own.
Q:
The picture is of a 300 pro series 308 reel and the description says it is of a 300 pro. I'm just wondering which is correct.
Answer: The Mitchell Pro series have models 300, the smaller 308 and the smallest 310. Except for the size, they are so similar, the same image is used for all three. Each one's description is the one being sold. FYI, the green trim is found here in The US. European Mitchell Pro Series reels have red trim. Other than that, there are no other differences. See http://fishmitchell.com/mitchell_300_pro/ for all three specs!
Answer: I agree, I was also confused and called the supplier. It's a 300 PRO. I think the 308 is smaller
Answer: Hey Daniel, that is kind of odd. When I purchased it I thinki remember seeing 300 on the reel as well. However the description and gear ratio is that of the 300 pro. This is something I would verify with amazon in order to insure you get the product you are intending to buy. Sorry I couldn't help :(
Q:
I need to verify that the 300Pro reel # is 4000 which holds heavier line!
Answer: The is one of the best reels I have ever owned, but I think it is in the 3000 series.
Answer: No, this reel is for freshwater light casting and retrieval
Answer: No it's not it is a ultra light 6# max.
Q:
Does it come pre-loaded with fishing line?
Answer: No. You have to purchase the fishing line separately.
Answer: no
Answer: Mine did not.
Q:
From the picture, the handle seems to be made out of soft materials, how durable is it?
Answer: I wouldn't say the handle is made from "soft" materials. It's about as rugged and strong and any reel for what it's intended use is
Answer: It is made of some kinda " hard sponge" material. So far it I haven't had any issues with it.
Q:
Is this reel salt water resistant? I still have 2 of the Model 300's I purchased in the 60's!
Q:
What model is this one featured? How much line does it hold? (Braid and mono)
Answer: Mono Line Capacity: 6/185,8/130,10/110 (lb/yds)
Q:
do you only sell the mitchell 300 pro series 308 or do you sell the 300 too?
Answer: The Mitchell Pro series have models 300, the smaller 308 and the smallest 310. You can find all three for sale on Amazon by doing search. See http://fishmitchell.com/mitchell_300_pro/ for all three specs!
Q:
Does the crank handle of a 308Pro fold inward?
Answer: All Mitchell's handles fold back.
Q:
is this a good pan fish reel, crappie, sunnies?
Answer: Absolutely, crappie fishing all the time with it
Q:
Does the spool of the 308Pro have a slick or a binding surface that would grip braded line?
Q:
Support for salt water
Answer: Not sure it's made for salt, but I use it in the bays and Gulf, SW Florida. Tighten the drag and rinse it off after use with fresh water and spray some ReelX on it.
Answer: From my experience, I use mine mostly in salty water, however I do rinse it off with water from time to time with plain old tap water. No problems.
Answer: yes,but like any reel it needs a little oil every now and then
Answer: No fresh only.
Q:
Do these modern versions "click" during retrieval like the vintage classic mitchell reels?
Answer: No, no clicks at all during any retrievals.
Q:
is this a308 or 300
Q:
Can the handle be used left or right handed? Does it come with a spare spool?
Answer: It can be left or right handed. There is no spare spool.
Answer: Doesn't come with a spare spool but the handle is interchangeable to your handing.
Answer: The handle switches to either side, and no, it does not come with an extra spool.
Answer: Hi, Mary. Answers: Yes No
Q:
Is the 300 Pro reel good for Walleye fishing?
Answer: Yes, it can be used for walleye fishing.
Q:
300pro,300pro-c,308pro,308pro-c,310 No description at all line capacity or gear ratio
Answer: Just use enough line that you will need. Don’t over do it. If you use too much you will be frustrated and lose time on the water, if you use too little you have to start all over again spooling the right amount.
Q:
can i get the spec. weight, line capacity, etc.,,?
Answer: OOOOps!! Read the wrong line for braid. Capacity is: 10/290, 14/210, 20/160
Answer: Wt 9.9 oz, max drag 14lb, mono capacity 10/210, 12/180, 14/150. Braid capacity 25/265, 30/165, 35/135. Given the max drag of 14lb, I would not go to braid. I am fishing for schooly striped bass with 10lb line. Reel is not meant for salt water, but with good cleaning, I will make do.
Product reviews of Mitchell 300Pro Spinning Fishing Reel
Saltydog : Great reel
Great reel...can't go wrong
Ron : Five Stars
great gift for the fisher in my life very smooth drag works well
Dave : Great little reel!
I have no complaints about it. I got the 308 because I wanted a "smaller" reel for the local lakes here in Lubbock Texas. Matched it with a 6' Shakespeare GX-2, (?) Ugly stick, and it's been great ever sense. VERY smooth reel. I love the drag on it so far. Seems very well made.
Gustavo San Roman : The old ones were better
It’s ok the olds ones were better
Keivn L. Rasmussen : ... and judging from his reaction the reel is a good as he was very happy with the gift
This reel was purchased a retirement gift for a friend and judging from his reaction the reel is a good as he was very happy with the gift.
Ray : Retrieving line bail hangs up.
Reel is very smooth, except when retrieving and the anti reverse lever is engaged, if the bail is not in the exact position it is next to impossible to snap the bail shut unless you dis-engage the anti reverse feature, very annoying. Every think else is fine.
steven brendemuehl : Five Stars
great reel, smooooth retrieve
Henry M. : Five Stars
t is as smooth as silk and I expect many years of use,
Robert Garr : perfect
great product
Lev Lomansky : good reel for this money
Most of the Mitchell reels come with spare spool, this one is not , I little bit disappointed, I have to buy it separately and not sure yet if it is available. The rest is fine. I used it with 8 feet Fenwick rod an it worked just fine for a Steel head fishing
Marilyn G : Junk!!!
DO NOT BUY THIS REEL! WORST PIECE OF JUNK I'VE EVER WASTED MONEY ON! SEIZED UP ON MY SECOND DAY OF USING IT! THEN KNOB ON CRANK FELL OFF ALMOST IMMEDIATELY!
Will's Mom : Five Stars
great reel by Mitchell. this is my second one, works great for our trout fishing rigs.
Ron : Five Stars
great gift for the fisher in my life very smooth drag works well
Keeping_it_reel : RIP OFF REPORT:GREEN CANYON OUFITTERS
Reel broke after 2 months while I was catching a fish at the pier. It was only the my 3rd time using it. Cheap plastic Made in China but the worst part is that GREEN CANYON OUTFITTERS will not give me an exchange. The customer service person was rude and condescending. I was told "you should have called us sooner if the product was defective" I don't go fishing everyday. I work for a living.
Wallace : Finally, Mitchell quality is back!!!
I was given one of these during Pure Fishing's test run and was shocked at the suggested price considering the features normally on reels at ten times the price. After a few fishing trips, I was sold when I landed a 10+ pound Large Mouth. The carbon fiber front drag (like the old Mitchell reels) had a workout and never failed. I'm surprised that the seller is not giving this reels specs that are very impressive. Being a "classic" angler hooked on vintage Mitchell reels for my lifetime, this is one I would highly recommend to the new anglers as well as the old salts like me. Thanks Mitchell and congratulations, this one is a keeper!
Freddie Mac : best reel made today
Dispsite the fact I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, I do remember "mitchell 300" as my first serious spinning real when I was a wee lad. My first mitchell was a hand-me-down from my father about 30 years ago.
This reel is smooth, solid, great drag, far cast. I paired this with a light action mid level rod from Bass Pro. I bought a Bass Pro reel originally for about $60 and I was not happy with the quality. I can tell the difference in the two reels, the Mitchell 300 series is by far superior.
I can't justify spending a few hundred on a reel, I honestly dont know what those would give me that the Mitchell does not. I am pleased with my purchase and I think I will get a similar set up for my stiffer rod.
jack leviere : Five Stars
Very smooth
James Long : Love it! Works great.
Love it! Works great.
"jb" : Mitchell quality
good solid reel.
Jaime Bergara : Four Stars
My favorite reel.one
Thomas A. : One Sweet Reel
Its a Mitchell. Need I say more? Yes, this thing is a smooth as silk!
Greg Zielinski : Just go fishing.
Very good for small fish.
Robert : Excellent Performance!
First day out with this reel and I caught 4 30-35 inch pike and it performed beautifully. I loaded it with 30 lb braid and it casts smoothly with good distance even with light lures. The mechanism is nice and smooth too. For the money this one of the best reels I have. I will replace my other reels with this one when the time comes.

dmnork : Five Stars
great reel for the money. smooth, mechanically sound.
Dianne K Broadway : Bad gears
This is the second 308 Pro that I purchased. The 1st one has been excellent. This one started to bind a little after half a dozen uses. Thought it might need some oil or grease. Finally got around to taking it apart for maintenance today. Found the main drive gear binding with the brass shaft gear. Not worth fixing.
deelmac1 : Love the value in this reel
Love the value in this reel. Smooth performance and plenty of drag. Looking forward to using this in all of my spinning applications

Emartin : WHY CHANGE A GOOD THING. I PURCHASED TWO NEW 300PRO
MY OLD 300 MITCHELLS THAT I HAVE BEEN USING SINCE I WAS 12 YEARS OLD FINALLY HIT IT'S LIFE. WHY CHANGE A GOOD THING. I PURCHASED TWO NEW 300PRO, THEIR OUTSTANDING.
RAY LOPEZ : Stopped oscillating
I bought the Mitchell 300PRO spinning 2 pc combo and really liked it. I used it for freshwater Stripers in Arizona. After about year, I had used it about 12 times, and the rod top part broke. Snapped pretty easy (still caught the fish) and couldn't find a way to replace/warranty it. So I switched the reel to an Ugly Stick but then the reel spool stopped oscillating. It makes a mess of the line. I opened it up and tried to clean it and fix it, but couldn't. It worked sometimes and not others. I think under pressure, the spool stops oscillating. I have reels way older that still work, so this was not a good buy for me. The oscillating mechanism is just not dependable nor easy to fix.
Rusty Shackleford : Great reel!
Very good reel for the money. Less slop in every area, very well built reel. Mine has already boated over 150 big white bass using 10lb braid and is still tight and ready for many more. No doubt I'll buy another one or two. The EVA knob was not glued on, but a dab of epoxy and that was fixed in a couple minutes. That would normally take away at least a star, but I like the reel so much it still gets a 5 from me.
James Long : Love it! Works great.
