Super smooth and easy casting. Very easy to set up and prepare for use. I do mostly small lake fishing so the heavy line that was included was not used by me, but I used 4 lb line and it worked very well.

Mohawk Mike : Long Cast and Smooth Retrieve

Given I had not heard of this brand, I figured I would give it a try as I prefer larger handles on my 4000 size reels. I spooled it up with 30 pound braid and paired it with an Ugly Stik GX2 in 8'6" length. Didn't feel like hitting up the jetty for saltwater action, so took it out at the local lake for catfish as folks have been landing 8+ pound cats and releasing for others to fight with.

This reel retrieve is very smooth and feels great in hand. The bail is solid and stays open during casting. With the large handle, I was concerned that momentum would cause the handle to spin and lock the bail, but that was not the case at all today. The drag is nice and easy to adjust. With the drag open, the spool is a little silent when line is letting out. Not a fan of that as I like to hear that loud gear chirping out but that's just me. Not a deal breaker at all. The reel foot is solid and keeps the reel in place and not flexing under load. The zero anti-reverse is consistent, but when setting the spool in place for casting, the weight and offset of the handle can rotate and move the spool out of line with the rod and your hand, but it's not often enough to be a concern.

All in all, this is a good reel for recreational fishing at the local lake and I am sure at the ocean jetty and beach.

Countryman Crew : subpar

This reel out of the box is very appealing, sleek and attractive. The bell and handle assembly is smooth and the knob sits very well while using it. It isn't balanced the best, but it is not terrible. The drag also is not quite up to par to many of my other reels of comparable size, it is pretty weak. The main thing that was quite annoying while putting it to use was the handle kept coming loose while I was reeling it in, and this was not after a lot of use either. Would hate for that to happen while a big fish is on the line! For the money I consider it to be okay, but there is definitely much better alternatives for not much more money!
