Answer: For general flats fishing for almost any size Redfish, trout, snook or flounder the 1000 size coupled with 8lb. Test braid is perfect (for me). You may choose the 2500 and be very happy.

Answer: you cannot tell size by gear ration, unless the reel company makes specific size reels in certain gear ratio's only. You will need a better description on the reel. This is an area Amazon is often lacking and I sometimes will not buy reels from Amazon.

Answer: NO it is NOT at Saltwater Reel Period IMHO

Answer: Yes, it is a saltwater reel. I have several and they have been dunked, subject to spray, etc...i rinse and they are still flawless.

Answer: I use them ONLY in salt water. Targeting hard tails. Had the reel three years with probably 50+ outings in the salt. It's like new.

This thing is an absolute slayer. I have this reel in the 3000 size and have used it for nothing but saltwater fishing (surf, pier, kayak), where it has been misted and spritz, dropped in the sand, and even dipped (not completely dunked) in the salt water and it is still spooling well and spinning smooth. I may hear the tiniest of a hiss when i really get to cranking (a possible indication of corrosion in a bearing somewhere), but it still feels very smooth and runs well. line lay is great. the only thing I find questionable is the claimed yardage ratings for various pound test of line. I believe I am supposed to be able to spool this thing with somewhere around 320 yards of 15# braid, I got to about 220-250 and it looks pretty full. Picture included so you know this is a legit review and not a couch reviewer
