Questions about Piscifun Platte Fly Fishing Reel Large Arbor Fully Sealed Drag with CNC-machined Aluminum Alloy Body 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 (Gunmetal,Black,Ice Blue)
Q:
Are spare spools available for this reel yet?
Answer: Yes, please contact Piscifun Customer Support if you need spare spools of the Platte fly reel.
Answer: are 7/8 spools available now for any of the colors
Q:
Is the reel made in China?
Answer: South Korea
Q:
Why does this reel cost $75 more on Amazon than Pascifun website? It wasn't two weeks ago
Answer: Different seller at
Answer: Make sure you are looking at and comparing the same model and size reels.
Q:
What’s a good rod to pair this with -9/10wt reel
Answer: My reel is a 7/8 and I have it paired with a 4 pc 9' #8 Fenwick. Fenwick is an outstanding rod with limited lifetime warranty and it performs like the big guns. Also, if you are new to salt water fly fishing it won't break your bank account. BTW the reel is phenomenal have been extremely pleased with it performance.
Answer: Mine is on a 10’ 7 wt. Orvis Trident
Q:
Do the reels have all metal parts?
Answer: Hi! I don't have it in front of me, but it appears they do - except for Delrin Drag Washers and maybe the handle.
Q:
Hello, concerning piscifun platte 7/8 reel. how many yds of backing (20 or 30lb) & how many yds of 7wt fly line would be adequate for this reel, thank
Answer: Ok since you are loading a 7/8wt reel you must be after large fish that being said I never know how much I put on in backing I put enough backing on say 1/2 inch then you always put all of the fly line on if you can not get it all on then take your fly line off and remove some of your backing. Better yet if you have a fly shop in your area take your reel in and have them put backing on it's inexpensive. good luck br.
Answer: Timothy, I put 150 yds of 20 lb backing and a 100 ft 8 wt fly line. RIO Bonefish Quickshooter Fly Line. The reel is a very good reel for the price and worked flawlessly on a trip to Belize.
Answer: I put 100 yds. of 20 lb. braid backing on with a WF-7-F/S Orvis Hydros Bank Shot Sink Tip which is 100' long. Spools good, doesn't over fill reel. Great reel; bargain with the sealed bearings.
Answer: Your fly line is set, therefore my best is to add 20 lb backing at ~100 yards. you probably never get to the backing! It's just a backup. Great reel- might say- put a little removeable locktite on the arbor screw thread to prevent loosening while fishing! Important. Think the bearings & drag are exceptional! Happy fishing!
Answer: Because I use the reel for pike and muskie, I used a 30lb backing on the reel. Standard 100yd 30lb backing works just fine for me. Most standard fly lines are 100ft. Fills it with no issues.
Answer: FYI mine feel apart the first time using it. Not sure on the yards if you buy fly line at bass pro they’ll put backing on for free
Answer: its ok its not a Ross or Orvis
Q:
Hi, how much the reel with spare spool? Thank a lot!
Answer: Around usd100 and can be lesser on sale. Spare spool is only for 5/6 and will cost u usd68 if im not mistaken
Q:
Is the drag system equal or better than the Redington rise/behemoth?
Answer: I can comment on the Redington Behemoth due to the fact that I use the reel. The Behemoth is an excellent reel for it's value and I would recommend it to anyone. I use a 12wt for my Tarpon and big game applications and the drag system can't be beat. Now to your question. If you are going for big game or a speedster like a bone fish, go with the Behemoth. In other words the Behemoth beats a lot of reels. However, it's a lot heavier.
Answer: The drag system is definitely comparable and possibly superior. The people I know with the Redington reels have had issues when they are wet. The Piscifun drag hasn't slipped on me, even when in wet or bitter cold conditions.
Answer: I don't have the REDDINGTON to compare it with. I'm happy to own mine and would buy extra spool for it, when they come available. I would trust this drag on BONEFISH, or smaller KINGFISH.
Answer: To be absolutly honest with you I haven't used the reel yet. That being said I hve several fly reels in my reel box 20 plus all costing more than the reel you are asking about I was impressed with the quality of the workmanship put into and the price cais fantastic. Hope this helps. Br.
Answer: Can't make a comparison however, this reel has worked flawlessly for me on several fishing trips to Montana.
Q:
Will this drag be great for king salmon?
Answer: Ummm, when you're talking king salmon you're talking a beast. Just make sure your reel weight is heavy enough. The drag for my worked perfectly with spanish mack which is a hard hitting fast fish.
Answer: I would assume it would since it handled some nice sized tarpon.
Q:
Why does this reel cost $75 more on Amazon than Pascifun website? It wasn't two weeks ago
Answer: Different seller at
Answer: Make sure you are looking at and comparing the same model and size reels.
Q:
I have the 9/10 weight good enough for Michigan king salmon?
Answer: I would.be more concerned about the 9 or 10 wt. rod than the Platte reel. This is an excellent reel and it should have no trouble handling big kings.
Answer: This is a big reel and very strong. With the right rod would land fish over 100 pounds. No problem with Salmon. Would recommend this reel to anyone. Literary Shocked how great it was.
Answer: Yes, absolutely. You will love this reel!
Q:
Is. The drag on 7/8 platte carbon stainless or cork stainless???
Answer: It is carbon to stainless drag system. Hope it helps!
Answer: Hey you are buying a an inexpensive reel one well worth the money spent . If that is the deciding factor spend four hundred dollars on a named product.
Q:
alloy body sizes what does that mean
Answer: Aluminum alloy refers to the fact that the reel is made of aluminum mixture to strengthen the material. The size is the width of the reel and will allow more or less line on the reel. Depending on what you are fishing for, you will need to determine how much line you need and therefore what size reel.
Answer: Aluminum alloy is composit mix of both steel and aluminum. Basically a full metal frame. It’s really strong, durable, yet lightweight.
Q:
Why is this more expensive then Crest?
Answer: It's amuch better drag system.
Answer: I am not aware of Crest? is this a brand name of a fly reel? . I suggest you go to You Tube and present your question
Answer: I have both the Piscifun Platte and Crest, I really like both and recommend both. My guess is that the Platte drag system is more costly, I also really like the large drag knob on the Platte.
Answer: The drag systerm and seal design are different. The cost of the platte reel is higher. Hope it helps!
Q:
What is the width of the interior line storage area of the reel? Also, can you tell me how much backing the 7/8 wt. reel can accommodate?
Answer: The width of the interior line storage is 1". I have 5 wt. line and my reel is chuck full. 100 'of backing and 100 ' of wt. 5 line
Answer: Specifications
Q:
Does it have the clicking sound when stripping line? Sounds dumb but im one that likes that sound.
Answer: Hello, the answer is NO to clicking while stripping.
Answer: It does, but it is pretty quiet.
Answer: Yes it does
Q:
How much backing can input on the reel, I know it says 20lb 100yards on the 7/8 but can inputvmore or use the braid backing that is smaller?
Answer: This reel easily will hold 100 yrds of 20lb backing and even more finer diameter braid. Ultimately it depends on what fly line you decide to go with...some are longer and larger diameter than others. To be sure...the Piscifun Platte is an excellent fly reel...great quality and value.
Answer: I don’t know how much on a 7/8 but 4wt held more than enough. I was really impressed with the quality of this reel although I have not used it yet.
Answer: I didn’t measure the amount as I filled it from a bulk spool. However, I would guess it is quite a bit more than 100 yards. If you load up with gel spun braid in 20 lb you should have more than enough for bass, carp, most steelhead and stripers the size a 7/8 is expected to handle.
Answer: I don't know. This reel can load more than enough line if u will
Q:
Has anybody use the Platte for euro Nymphing with long mono leaders? I have the sword and the mono slips off spool through spool -reel gap.
Answer: I have not had any issues with mine; great reel and value.
Q:
Do you have a kit? With line and everything?
Answer: Search for Piscifun "Riv". There is a full lot.
Q:
Is the reel made in the USA?
Answer: The reel is not made in the United States as a lot of others are not also. I don’t think Sage reels are either. The Piscifun is one fine reel and is as good , if not better, than my Sage 4250. I haven’t seen anything in this price range better the Piscifun. Hope this helps. Terry
Answer: From doing a little online research I get the impression that Piscufun reels are made in China. Evidently a lot of well known fishing reels are made in China.
Answer: I am not 100% sure. I think it is made in South Korea. I hope this helps.
Q:
Do you think I'd have any problems using a 3/4 weight reel with a 5wt rod?
Answer: I would still get a 5/6 for a 5wt rod. The line will be too thick to get the entire fly line on the reel, without sacrificing on the backing. Even on my 7/8 wt reel, I could barely fit an 8wt line and 100yds of backing on the reel without the reel jamming up.
Answer: You would definitely have less room for backing. The 3/4 is pretty small. It's probably more of a 3wt reel. If you don't feel that you need backing, you'll probably be ok.
Answer: It should work but this reel is very substantial in weight and is noted for its drag which would be much more than needed for a 5wt. The Sword 2 may be better choice for a 5wt. It should balance the rod better.
Answer: I think this reel is big enough to hold a 5wt. line but you would have to use less backing.
Answer: I think the only concern would be if you could put backing on the reel. If you don't need the backing it should be fine.
Answer: You'd be short of backing but the slight weight difference shouldn't affect the balance when you cast
Answer: Arbor size is about it.
Q:
Does the Platte come set up for right or left hand retrieve and can anyone post a copy of the instructions needed to change from right to left etc.?
Answer: The reels I have received are set for left hand retrieve . Just Google "how to change the Piscufun Platte reel from left to right hand retrieve". There are a couple of videos that show the procedure.
Answer: The Platte reel is easily converted to either right or left retrieve. Instruction to make the change are included with the reel when purchased.
Answer: If you unscrew & pull the spool off there's a click/ bearing. Just flip it over to change the retrieve. You can also email them. Be sure to put a removable loctite on thread to insure it doesn't loosen under heavy use.
Product reviews of Piscifun Platte Fly Fishing Reel Large Arbor Fully Sealed Drag with CNC-machined Aluminum Alloy Body 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 (Gunmetal,Black,Ice Blue)
Terry Scheurman : Nice reel
Used it a week ago bonefishing and it did very well. I was pleasantly surprised. The drag remained smooth even after bonefish burns. Very nice reel regardless of the low sticker price.
David M. : Great when it existed
Put this reel to the test on a 3 week fishing trip in Soldotna, Alaska 07/14/21 - 08/04/21. Well, the first part of the trip anyways.
The reel was used on the Kenai river catching sockeye salmon. Things to note: where I fished the current of the Kenai is strong and fast. Additionally, the sockeye coming up the river are also strong and fast.
The reel looks and feels pretty solid. Nice design and color scheme (wanted it in blue but didn’t have it for the 9/10).
Reel handled the Kenai effortlessly. Even hooked on a king salmon which made me pay by snapping my fly rod in half but I was still able to improvise and reel it in before releasing it. The king made two big runs once down river and again towards the deep middle. The reel made it very easy to time my pulls and cover ground fast especially with the large arbor.
Here’s the bad news: hooked on a good size salmon when all of a sudden the reel spool suddenly ejected on its own into the river. Again, fast strong river meant that the reel was immediately taken by the current and lost forever.
I loved the reel while I had it but I’m pissed I’m out almost $200 for some weird flaw. If they fix this flaw, this will probably be the last reel I ever buy and would buy a lot more as would the rest of our fishing crew as everyone was impressed with it.
The only other critique I have is the drag knob. I like the size but it’s pretty slim which can be a challenge to tighten when it’s really cold and wet. My fat fingers had a hard time gripping it to tighten the drag.
Overall, loved the reel while I had it. Unfortunately only thing I have left is the nice neoprene storage case to remember it by. I saw others mention their reel popping off and thought maybe it was a fluke? Nope.
Lionel : Workmanship excellent for the price.
I haven't got to use the reel yet, not until April 1st.
Morgan Stanwood : Fly-fishing.
Great product.
Paul Lord : High end kit at budget rates.
This is the top of the line Piscifun reel and it lives up to its billing. I have the 9/10 weight in Grey, spooled up with a 10wt sinking tip line for Pike and Musky. The drag on this reel is fantastic; the big adjustment knob is very granular and stays put, and if you ask it to clamp down on a runaway fish it can handle it. It is well made, smoothly finished and very solid; I can see how on a smaller reel it might be a little heavy but the weight is in line with other 10 wt. reels I own. Changing spools is quick but rick solid. All in all, the slight extra spend here-- still dirt cheap compared to the big name brands-- is more than supported by the reel quality. I'll get some extra spools, because this reel isn't coming off the rod it's currently attached to!
CaptTimBow : The 9/10wt Platta is an amazing reel for the money
The 9/10wt Platta is an amazing reel for the money. As a tarpon fishing guide in Puerto Rico my tackle gets punished and I am looking forward to punishing this reel. If it holds up as I believe it will I will be making several more purchases.
whatesleistheretodo : Excellent reel for the $
After researching/reviewing the best fly reels under $200 I settled in this Platte from Piscifun. After using it I know why the reviewers recommended it - its really good. Drag system works well and it comes out of the box for left hand use. Hopefully it lasts many seasons.
Shoes : Reel fell apart
This Piscifun reel broke apart in two pieces fighting a salmon. Don’t buy it
Tyler : Great aesthetic, but having some trouble
Love the appearance and size of the reel. Nice intermediate reel (size 5/6) for small streams and even larger lakes. Had it out for a few hours and occasionally had a problem where I'd reel in, then look down and notice a huge rat's nest of line knotted up and falling off the reel. It was nice to have the option of unscrewing the large green knob and pulling it apart to sort out the issue. Was scared all those washers would come clinking out but they did not. I'm using brand new line, and I'm a sort of a newbie so I'm going to blame myself and not knock down the rating because of this problem. Though my previous reel, 2.5" in diameter as compared to this reel's 3.6" diameter, was only worth about half the price never had this problem. I'll keep going and hope I get better with it.
AllenLeon : Great Reel
Great Reel get 4 Stars only cause I haven't put it to Water but soon, So far though looks, feel and winds, Sweet, Can Not wait to try it.
Amazon Customer : The finish was beautiful and the drag at all settings seemed to be ...
I recently received my Platte fly reel. First impression was "Its pretty" ...The finish was beautiful and the drag at all settings seemed to be super smooth. Okay let's get it on the river. I was completely satisfied with the 5/6 performance wise. The reel was subject to some beating, I drop my rod and fall a lot but the finish held up very well. The drag is as smooth on running fish as it was in hand and the drag stayed set at the setting I selected, unlike some other reels I have that will loosen with the stripping of line. Sand and smal gravel could not find its way into the reel thanks to the sealed drag and close machining tolerances. I am so far VERY pleased with this product and look forward to offering Piscifun reels to my custom fly rod customers.
DWR : I must add that this is an awesome looking reel
I received my Piscifun Platte Fully sealed Drag Large Arbor Reel last week and I was very impressed with the quality of this reel. I have not taken it fishing but will use it for stripers in early May and bonefish and permit in October. I will let you know how it performed. I must add that this is an awesome looking reel.
Tom : ... of 2 Sword fly reels which I am very happy with I just purchased the new fully sealed Platte ...
As an owner of 2 Sword fly reels which I am very happy with I just purchased the new fully sealed Platte edition. This new generation or offering has been well thought out and beautifully executed. The fully sealed aspect is well done enclosing those working parts that sre subject to grit and gravel. The drag system has a larger working surface which should better for heat dissipation and smoothness on those runs. The large arbor makes for a wider profile but should be excellent for thicker floating lines and less opportunity for line jam or tangle. It will also decrease line memory because the wraps are larger on the spool and increase speed of line pickup in getting the fish to the reel for the fight. Machining is top notch. I am looking forward to many years of enjoyment from a quality product.
Markie Mark : Excellent reel.
Excellent product for the money. I use this reel for beach and flats fishing here in south Florida. 10/10 would purchase again!
Feather Chucker : Great Ree! Awesome Drag.
Great Reel! The drag is super smooth and very strong. This reel would be great for targeting largemouth bass or even something as large as tarpon. The build quality is great. I really like the gunmetal gray with the green. The colors make the real look very sharp. My friends will be jealous.
BcKc : Poor Design, Bad Customer Service
The drag knob on the reel is poorly designed and will almost certainly be a point of failure. This combined with poor customer service lead to me write this review.
I ordered two of these reels. The first was from the Piscifun website. It arrived a and the drag knob had been cross threaded into the drag assembly so it didn't work properly. It took 7 days and over 10 emails to Piscifun customer support for me to get a return shipping label. Also, no one answers their customer service phone number and the voice mailbox is full.
The second reel I ordered didn't have the same issue as the first but I decided to return it anyways. The drag knob has a side to side wiggle and I can see the threading wearing out over time. Additionally, the poor customer service experience has left me with no confidence in Piscifun's "Lifetime Warranty". Good luck making a claim in the future when the reel fails.
At this price point, loose fitting parts and poor customer service are unacceptable. I was able to buy a comparable reel on sale, from an American company/manufacturer with a stellar reputation for customer service, for the same price. I own other Piscifun products but after this experience, I won't be buying anymore.

Pottery Crone : My grandson told me it was the best!
This was a gift. My grandson told me it was the best!
Treven Kuhn : Great reel as good if not better than the "major expensive name brands"
Do not hesitate to purchase one of these reels. Built as decent if not better quality than the expensive more well known name brands within the fly fishing industry. But dont let that turn you away from this brand. I bought one fell in love with it and purchased more for my other setups. You definitely will not be disappointed with this quality and performance of these reels!
Odin : A small fall from 3' ?!
I enjoyed the reel all two times I used, but it fell drag side down on a rock, now drag is stuck and will not come apart where needed!
Sitting in pieces. I bought two, now wishing I did not. I'm afraid to accidentally drop it!
I don't feel I should have to screw around with warranties, so I'll just never buy another one and recommend my friend do not either :)

Eric M. : Great reel
Love the reel. Everything feels nice for a great price. The drag click isn’t too loud but there’s a shuttle sound when the drag is peeling that still gives the satisfaction
D R. : Good value
Excellent buy. Feels nice and the drag is really good. It out performs my more expensive reels.
Jennifer and James Sredl : Five Stars
Really nice fit and finish. Smooth reel. Can't wait till this spring.
Bill : Good value
I shopped a lot of other reels in this price range before buying and I have to say that the reel (Platte 9/10 in Ti and green) I received was better than I expected. It is very solid and looks great. I took it to the Salmon River and it performed well. I did not have one take it down to the backing in one big run to really test it, but it worked flawlessly on the fish I did catch.
AllenLeon : Great Reel
Great Reel get 4 Stars only cause I haven't put it to Water but soon, So far though looks, feel and winds, Sweet, Can Not wait to try it.
Amy Manfredo : Have no idea how to pronounce Piscifun, but it's a great reel from my perspective.
I spent about a month researching fly rod/reel options. I am a novice, but I've purchased 3 fly rods and 2 reels in the past. What I bought in the past was entry level stuff, so I was looking for something of a bit better quality but still shy of top-of-the-line equipment. After coming back to this reel multiple times I finally decided I couldn't find a better option for the price.
I bought this and a 4 piece fenwick 5WT rod. I used this in the White River in Arkansas for a brutally cold weekend and it was great. The reel is clearly better than my other options and the drag system is something I under appreciated with the cheaper stuff I used. I could cast this easily, and it was very nice to fight some trout on a better quality setup. Overall I am very glad I went with this version--still have no idea how to pronounce the name of it though.
Hudman76 : Where are the extra spools
Great reel but for this price one would think you could bet an replacement spool
D R. : Good value
Excellent buy. Feels nice and the drag is really good. It out performs my more expensive reels.
Vincent Lortie : Amazing fly fishing reel
Great product , amazing feel from this reel ! The drag is incomparable to other reels of that price from the big reel companies out there . The seal mechanism is a great option for any fly fisherman . I have caught many big fish on this reel and I’m very happy with the overall quality of this reel.
Lodovico Napoli : Shocking quality
Just Wow..!!!
Shocking level of quality, pleasure on fishing and reliability.
A lots of expensive famous brands , costing three times more could be ashamed aside this fantastic reel...
bigshot : Great reel, Great value!!!
Set up for a 2 hand 6 wt Switch rod. Perfect balance. Will be used for Steelhead fishing..
Kimberly : I wanted to love this reel
Not a lot of line capacity but worst of all drag failed and overspun a couple of times also you need to keep an eye on the knob that holds the real together loosening constantly almost lost it in the river.
Nope.
Customer : Unreal, amazing, brilliant, top quality reel
Iv had quite a few fly reels and iv always found a fault with them with smoothness, drag, wobble in the reel, etc.... But this reel is faultless and unreal superb quality.... I read the reviews on this reel and they were brilliant reviews and there's a reason they were brilliant and that's because this reel is excellent quality,.... Drag is super smooth, extremely solid reel no wobble or play, so so smooth to reel.... It looks unreal and this is like buying a 300-400quid reel it's just the best reel and u get a reel cover to protect it in the box..... Definitely buy this reel it will fight any fish possible and looks unreal
Terry M. : Impressive reel
Very impressed so far, hope to get it on the water next week. After getting line on it and playing with the drag, I like it as well as my Sage 4250. Proof will be on the water.
Amazon Customer : Five Stars
Better than expected
Harold : Nice reel.
The drag is smooth and the retrieve is fast.
PatrickAmazon Customer : Smooth drag.
This reel is amazing. Really well done.
Very happy. Good job.
David w Madison : Suburb finish and smooth operation
The product is machined from an aluminum alloy and has san excellent fit and finish very large drag adjustment feature that appears to be silky smooth. Smoth turning spool with a large arbor. Which is good for picking up line quickly and preventing line coils.the only flaw I can see is the reel feels a bit heavy for a 5/6 wt especially for a fully machined component. However I. Have not had a chance to cast with the reel as my new 9ft 5wt rod has not arrived yet. I will. See how they balance when I pair them
Ciccio : Low quality
One trip out - king salmon on the line tore the drag up and the spool popped off. The side knob won’t attach right after that. Not for decent sized game fish. Overall quality is extremely low.
Scott : My new favorite reel!
Easily, the best reel I've owned. I also have the Blaze and Sword reels and love them all, but the Platte is in a different league. I've put this reel to the test on large trout that have ripped line away and the drag remains smooth and effective. The sealed drag system will ensure that it performs in all elements and remains maintenance free even in salt water. The large arbor will reduce line memory and the large drag adjustment makes it easy to adjust with a fish on. You won't find a better performing or better looking fly reel for the price anywhere. Plus, the Piscifun customer service is top notch. This company is growing and gaining a following of loyal customers. I have the 5/6 Platte in Ice Blue and it looks great as well. Put a Piscifun Platte on your favorite rod and it will quickly become your favorite combo. Also, it is eaily changed from left to right retrieval or vice versa. Check out my video for a tutorial. Zigfried : Super Astonishing Value!
The Platte reels I've received have exceeded expectations. The reason I'm buying their product is that they offer astonishing quality and value. There are two big names out there who claim many records on their reels, but part of this is no doubt because people who can afford upwards of $700 - $800 for a reel alone are the ones that can afford high priced trips and guides. This is a very, very capable reel. I'm an American who lived in New Zealand for 10 years and have tied into all sorts of big, "finny critters". Hooking a New Zealand Kingfish is like hooking a golf cart - and that's just the 5- 10 pounders! I'm confident that the PLATTE 9-10 would handle "Kingies" of this size. It is also well suited to King Salmon, Permit, Roosterfish and more. Very happy with purchase! ***** The customer service is, as well NON PARIEL!
THESE REELS HAVE BEEN DISCOUNTED TO THE BIGGER BUYER PRICE THE VALUE FACTOR IS FANTASTIC!
Kimberly : I wanted to love this reel
Not a lot of line capacity but worst of all drag failed and overspun a couple of times also you need to keep an eye on the knob that holds the real together loosening constantly almost lost it in the river.
Kayak Express : Like the sealed drag system!
The Platte reel appears to be well made. I have not had the opportunity to use it yet. I did spool it up with 100 yards of 30 lb backing and a 100’ Orvis Bankshot 7 wt. sink tip line. It all fit on the arbor with a little exspansion space left. I will use it on a 10’ 7 wt. Orvis fly rod for boat/river tailwater fishing for striper, bass, brown trout and small Muskie. It comes with a neoprene cover which I use on all my reels while traveling in the boat. I just slide the reel in and wrap around rod and secure the Velcro. This keeps all my reels from getting banged up. I really like the large drag adjustment; makes it easy to quickly get your hand on it when needed. Gave it a 4 star simply because I have not tested it in actual use at this time.
Update:
5 stars!!!!! Will use all of my Piscifun 5/6 and 7/8 reels loaded with Piscifun backing in a few weeks on Alaska trip.
john herritt : Won't buy again
Purchased this reel because of all the hype and good reviews. No instructions on how to change left to right hand retrieve in box. Looked it up on you tube. Tiny spring flew out and I had no idea where it went. Called about it but no help. Put it back as best as I could. Not sure it's correct. You get what you pay for but this is not a cheap reel. Buyer beware. Not sold on this reel. Won't be buying another one anytime soon.
