Black Anodized Machined Aluminum Housing ("Hard Bodyz" Body & Side Cover)
Daiwa BG is equipped with a machined aluminum body and body cover providing strength and internal part stability. To increase the strength in the form of corrosion and scratch resistance, Daiwa has Black Anodized the body and body cover. The anodization process allows for better adhesion to the aluminum and will not chip or peel like a painted surface, extending the brilliant look of the BG spinning series.
OVER-SIZED DIGIGEAR (DIGIGEAR SYSTEM)
Daiwa BG spinning series have integrated the largest drive gear in the history of Daiwa spinning reels. The benefit to having this oversized gear increases gear-tooth contact points, this provides smoother and extended gear life as well as more power and increased torque.
| | |
Solid Screw-In Handle Daiwa’s Screw-in-Handle design provides zero movement or play between the main gear and handle arm. This lack of movement offers the angler both confidence and control when rotating the handle. | AIR ROTOR The Air Rotor weighs up to 15% less than ordinary rotor designs. Its unique shape reduces unnecessary weight while distributing stress more evenly throughout the rotor for maximum strength. | ABS SPOOL The ABS spool's maximized core diameter and reversed taper mean 100% useable line. No "dead" line buried in a deep core. You can fill it with line right up to the edge of the spool lip without fear of tangles. ABS cause less casting friction for longer and easier casting. The huge spool diameter line flow freely in larger coils and produces less line memory coil. Smaller spool diameter means line flows in tighter coils as well. |

Questions about Daiwa BG3500 BG Saltwater Spinning Reel, 3500, 5.7: 1 Gear Ratio, 6+1 Bearings, 38.50" Retrieve Rate, 17.60 lb Max Drag
Q:
what is the best size for bass fishing?
Answer: 2500 or 3000
Answer: BG 2500.
Answer: Bg 6500
Q:
Which model would pair best with a 7' ugly stik elite? i am looking to use this combo for smallmouth bass and lake trout. i'm thinking the bg3500.
Answer: You can use eight 3500 or smaller will work
Answer: bg3000 might be better
Answer: Do not go any higher. Otherwise the reel would be too big for that type of fishing.
Answer: Too big.
Q:
What is the drag stength on the 5000 and what size should I get for a a Okuma cellis h-100lb
Answer: 22lbs of drag on the BG 5000. You can find all the info on Daiwa's website. I believe your gonna need a way bigger reel for that 100lb class rod. Also better class type reels like Saltist 8000 with a 33lb drag or above. Depends on the type of fish your going after and areas Good luck, Tight lines!
Q:
What is the drag stength on the 3500 series?
Answer: According to Daiwa, the drag on the BG3500 is the same as the BG4000...17.6 lbs.
Q:
I need a replacement handle. Can I order that ??
Answer: yes
Q:
I have a shimano 9" rod, line wt 14-25lbs, action: fast, power: medium/heavy. what would be the best daiwa bg reel for salmon fishing with this rod?
Answer: This Daiwa reel BG 3500 is a good choice for that rod.
Answer: 9 inches is no where near long enough for a salmon rod. I would spend the extra money to buy a rod of at least 7 feet.
Q:
How much does the 3500 weigh exactly?
Answer: I can't tell you. I bought the 4500. It seems balanced on 8.5 foot trolling rods.
Q:
IS the 210/12 option in the size drop don box the 3500 model?
Answer: Put it in your cart and see if it gives you a better description. That’s what I did.
Q:
I bought the 3500 for surf fishing of red fish, black drum - should i use braid or mono? how many yards? thx
Answer: Braid is the way to go. The specs will tell you max length based on your reel however you're still going to have to eyeball it unless you have a counter or take it to a shop that does.
Q:
What size is the reel for $87 an change?
Answer: Daiwa BG Spinning Reels. Handle Turn. Line Capacity. J-BRAID: 20/370, 30/280, 40/200 17.6. BG4000- / M 6 1 5.7:1 39.9" 14.3 10/300, 12/260, 14/210. Nice inshore reel. Caught more than its share of fish and I haven't had any problems
Answer: It is the 3500 size. A good size for bass and sea trout and red fish. These are really good reels.
Answer: 5.7:1 gear ratio, Briad 310/20, 230/30, 150/40, Mono 240/10, 210/12, 170/14,
Q:
What is the line capacity
Answer: depends on the test strength and type
Q:
What size are these reels? Do you sell the 2500 models?
Answer: I got the 400
Q:
what size of daiwa bg is a good matching for 7’ spinning rod?
Answer: I use my Daiwa BG 2500 on 6' and 6.5' medium weight spinning rod with 6# test mono for smallmouth bass river fishing, and it works great with varying weight lures. Would guess it could be just as effective on 7' rod.
Answer: The 2500 or 3500 are a good choice for the 6'6"-7' rods
Answer: It really depends on whether you are fresh or saltwater fishing. I recommend a 4000 size reel for inshore saltwater fishing. I have no clue about freshwater fishing.
Answer: This 1
Q:
Are the bearings sealed?
Answer: No. They are “shielded” bearings. Meaning that the bearings are covered with plastic on each side. This one in my opinion is still the best deal for the money. I just bought another BG 8000 Saltwater spinning reel. Also most likely all spinning reels in this price range are shielded. For around $40-50 more, the Penn Battle 3 uses a sealed stainless steel bearing system ( if you can find the Battle 3)
Answer: I think yes
Q:
Would the 3500 BG be able to handle king salmon 20to 30 pds of a fish
Answer: depend if you fishing off a boat or catching them from shore moving in to a river. 3500 can for sure get the job done, 4500 more so but also a bigger reel to be holding. I use a 2500 for good size Lake Erie run steelhead.
Answer: It would depending on what pound test you use. Personally i would move up to the 4500 for line capacity both volume and weight. But that would be your decision
Answer: With braid, maybe. I’d move up to at least the 4500.
Answer: The drag would have to be set right . But it would be pushing the reel . It’s a super great solid reel built like a tank I would say yes if you use all the right stuff.
Q:
Is this genuine Daiwa BG?
Answer: Genuine as can be. I’m not sure what you mean by genuine. Are you referring to the 25 year old BG? This one is the newest version. Designed and started selling in 2016 and is considered to be one of the best selling reels of present day. I have 2 in size 8000 that I purchased here.
Answer: I purchased the 1500 a few months ago it is genuine in the original packaging. I'm very happy for the price/quality. Tight action not sloppy at all, I was concerned putting it on a sensitive/expensive pole until I received it. A little large for a 1500 but still have it on my ultralight
Answer: It is a new design but still same quality. I use mine in salt water and it does great no issues so far.
Answer: yes it is
Q:
do you have the BG 2500?
Answer: No the bg 6500 for have fishing
Q:
Is this reel, BG3500 washable?
Answer: Yes. It is washable. I put mine in washing machine on the extra dirty cycle. LOL Just kidding. It is washable and it is a very good reel.
Q:
Where can i buy the daiwa bg in size 4000? i dont see it on amazon for sale anywhere.
Answer: The 14.3-39.9 option is for the 4000 size. I purchased that option and received the 4000
Answer: If not available try eBay.
Q:
what size is 210yds/12lb? 2500?
Answer: I think so. Honestly the line capacity on the BG is kind of "next size up". My 6500 holds as much line as my okuma 8000. So I'd say 2500 is about right
Answer: The size is 2500.
Answer: I have the 4000 and it holds about 220 yards of 14lb teat mono so the 3500 should hold about 220 yards of 12# test.
Answer: is okay but 3000 is better
Answer: 3500
Q:
Under the size selection, it just says "14.1-38.5" - which is the BG3500, correct?
Answer: Correct. Reel weighs 14.1 oz, 38.5” line retrieve per turn of the handle. Diawa 3500.
Q:
Is the bail stainless?
Answer: Yes, the bail is stainless steel.
Answer: I think so, i never see rust after splashed of salt water.
Answer: yes

Q:
What you recommend for south fl inshore fishing; from lakes & canals; brackish water to beach piers: largemouth, peacock, panfish, cichlids, snapper?
Answer: I live in Costa Rica and this reel is what I use for inshore fishing. Catch snook up to 30 pounds, roosterfish up to 50, jacks, and snapper. I have reel spooled with 30 pound braid. Been great reels
Answer: If you’re going to use one reel for lakes and ocean. I would recommend the 2500 or 3000. The 3500 is the same size as a 4000 reel. So it’s on the big side. 2500 or 3000 would be perfect for fish you’re targeting.
Answer: the Daiwa BG 350 Saltwater spinning Reel. these run bigger then most reels The 3,500 would be as big as a 4,500 to 5,000 reel in most other brands. you may even want to try a 2,5000 or a 3,000.
Q:
how much 20lb braid dose 3500 daiwa Bg spinning reel hold
Answer: I put 200 yards of 15 lb braid on my 3000 BG. The spool has the amount of that will fit written on it. Look at the specs on Diawa.com. The reels are awesome especially for the price. I have 3 different sizes.
Answer: I don't have the 3500 I have the 4500 SERIES however the braided line capacity is about 30% more than mono. So at 20 # braid it is well over three hundred yards.
Answer: Da bg3500 holds 20lb/310ft-30lb/230-40lb/150ft. Aloha and Godbless
Answer: Line Capacity (Lb. Test / Yards) BG3500 10/240, 12/210, 14/170 J-BRAID: 20/310, 30/230, 40/150 17.6
Answer: Sorry I don't remember how many yards I put on my reel
Q:
I have a 6'9" ugly stik elite tiger rod, n bought the "3500 reel" one, than i notice it will be bigger than other brands' size,so would it still work?
Answer: I have the BG3500 and it is a great reel. I have a couple of Ugly Stik Tiger Spinning Rods also. My Tiger Stiks will take up to 50 lb line and are fairly stout/heavy. The BG3500 should work fine on your rod and in fact you might want to larger to a BG4000 or BG 5000 depending on how heavy your Ugly Stik Tiger Rod is built. Hope this helps.
Answer: Yes, a 3500 is fine for most situations
Q:
How many ounces does the 3500bg weigh
Answer: In the item description it says that the item weighs 1 lb so you could say 16 ounces but basically the same thing!
Answer: It weighs about 5oz.= 1/3 of a pound
Answer: 14.1 ounces
Q:
Can the 3500 bg switch right to left hand ?
Answer: How you doing? Sure can! I have the 2500,3000 and 3500. They are great reels at a great price. Enjoy your BG if you buy one or two or three. Lol! Tight lines!
Answer: Yes it can be switched.
Answer: Yes you can.
Answer: Yes
Q:
I have an ugly stick 6’6” med/heavy and fish mostly for flounder inshore. which real size should i get?
Answer: maybe you should try a 2500 or a 3000 reel. I use a 3500 Daiwa BG reel on my 7 foot 7 inch Daiwa travel fishing rod. This reel is bigger then my 5000 Kast king reel. I use a 3000 Kast King reel on my 6 foot 6 inch fishing rod.
Q:
What would be a good 7-8ft med hvy-hvy rod that would pair well with the 3500? Preferable something <$100
Answer: That is a personal preference. I fish with Shimano Terez rods.
Answer: I suggest the ShakespeareUgly Stik GX2 medium, this can handle what other med heavy could, or the med heavy if you need a stiffer blank.
Q:
does this reel have anti-reverse switch ?
Answer: No, mine doesn’t...Not the larger version. I have two 8000 BG and they are not, nor do they have the anti reverse switch.
Answer: Yes, you can see it on the bottom of the reel, just behind the spool in one of the picture descriptions
Answer: Yes it does. Great reel
Answer: Yes it does. For the money it’s an excellent real.
Answer: It does not
Q:
I like the manual bail but i see that tjus feature is not on the 4000 and smaller. Has anyone had issues with the bail closing during a cast? Thanks
Answer: No. I have heard that certain Penn spinners have complaints about that.
Answer: not so far
Q:
Is the 3500 size good with a mojo bass rod 7'1 medium heavy fast action if not what rod should i get?
Answer: To answer your question clarification questions would need to be asked. What sort of game fish are you targeting? Are you fishing from the shoreline or off a boat?
Q:
Which one would work the 6’6” meduim heavy ugly stik gx2 spinning rod for inshore and pier saltwater fishing? or should i go with 7’ medium heavy? if so which reel for this one also?
Answer: You will do better with a 7' rod, which allows for longer casts. All of my inshore rods are 7 or 7.5 ft. Either the BG3000 or 3500 will be fine.
Answer: 7 foot rod all day, 3500 to 5000 for inshore
Answer: Certainly no bigger than the 3500. The 2500 would be a good combination - coupled with a 15 to 20lb braid
Answer: go for the bad boy
Q:
What series reel is the 14.1-38.5 equal to?
Answer: This is the Daiwa 3500 series reel. I own this size and love it for medium surf action.
Answer: Penn battle 2 3500
Q:
What size reel is the "210yrds/12lb"? Is it the 2500?
Answer: kind of. The BGs have kind of next size up capacity. My 6500 BG has greater capacity than my okuma 8000.
Q:
Is the 5000 a good match on a 12 foot rod or would you guys go uo or down? Will use lures and fresh bait. They have it matched to a 7 foot rod.
Answer: It’s a perfect reel for a lot of rods. It’s light and comfy also holds about 600yrds of 30lb braid and is very smooth
Product reviews of Daiwa BG3500 BG Saltwater Spinning Reel, 3500, 5.7: 1 Gear Ratio, 6+1 Bearings, 38.50" Retrieve Rate, 17.60 lb Max Drag
Rey G. : Best reel for the money.
I got the 3500 and it is probably my #1 go to reel in my entire spinning reel Arsenal. I have it on a Carrot Stick Spinning rod and usually my everyday used rod. Largest (accidental) fish was a blue cat fish that was about 18” and about 15lbs while fishing for Stripe Bass.
Michael J : Long Island Surfcaster 9"rods BG 3500 and BG 3000
It beats many reels twice it's price. I've purchased reels from multiple companies and my Shimano Stradic 5000 may still be my favorite but my new BG 3000 and BG 3500 definitely give it a run for it's money. The BG's are sturdier but less powerful as far as drag goes. My Stradic pulls 24lbs which is a ton for it's weight and size. The BG 3000 is about the same size as the Stradic 5000. It holds 20 yards more 20 lb braid, drags 15.4 lbs, and it's a hair lighter. Less than an ounce. The BG 3500 is about 2 ounces heavier than my Stradic and has 17.6 lbs of drag power. I own bigger heavier reels for different purposes and when I surf cast on the Southern Ocean shore of Long Island. The Stradic works there too. My 2 little BG's are more for when I fish the bays and Sound on the North shore. Mostly 1/2oz bucktails to 2oz plugs. All 3 are on light 9 ft rods and all pass the fingertip balance test perfectly. People debate the heavy or light reel to rod ratio a lot but I think they often go by what they are use to and can be affected by many factors. YouTube the rod to reel balance test. Mojo Surf rods for example are so light and strong and Stradics are the same so as long as the drag is enough for the fish you want you can often balance a fairly small reel on a long 9' to 10' rod. Light, strong, and able to cast a mile is a pleasure to fish with. When I surf cast bait and heavier plugs I use a Daiwa Emblem Pro size 4500 and up. Or on my 11' rod a Fin-Nor Offshore 5500 reel. That thing is a beast. If you only want to own one rod at least for now that you can do a bit of everything with you may want to go as high as BG 4500. Guys use that size on everything from 7' to 10.6' rods. I'd recommend 3500 to 4000 depending on the size of braid you prefer. 17.6 lbs of drag can handle large stripers and bluefish just fine from my experience.
Amazon Customer : Prettier and smoother than Penn
Big for 3500, super smooth reeling and looks great. Handle fits really well in your hand and everything is rustproof so far

Good reel.
Sorin George : buen carrete calidad precío
tengo 2 daiwa bg ..les doy caña y se comportan bien ...hasta ahora ningun problema...aparte que estan hechos de aluminiu y no se tuercen ( spinning.jig)
Tom S. : Looks good, but not taking a chance on it . Three strikes.
Brand new out the box, handle right handed , not interchangeable. Reel does not match instructions. Looks goo. . Transition action from free spool cast to first crank not as smooth as others. But it sure looks good for the money.
Returned it.

Demitri K : Great smooth reel
Great reel very smooth
Amazon Customer : Four Stars
Good quality for that price.
desertdog : The best value spinning reel ever. Daiwa just came out of nowhere and schooled everyone!
Quite possibly the best value for a high-quality reel in history! I can not believe that this is a $100 reel. I own Saltigas, Stellas, and many Stradics but wanted some cheaper reels for travel to different countries. The price tag might be cheap, but trust me, these reels are built better than anything under $250 - Yes, they are better than my Stradics. Huge gear, tough threaded handle (just like the Saltigas), Genuine stainless NMB bearings (just like my Stellas), all metal body and rotor, a fantastically smooth drag, a braid-ready spool and roller, and to top it all off, they look awesome. I don't see how they can turn a profit on this reel at this price.
I have since added 6 of these reels to my arsenal, retiring 5 Stradics and selling a Certate to replace with these. The BG3500 fishes 300 yards 20# braid perfectly for most inshore fish. The BG2500 fits 300 yards of 15# braid and is my go-to heavy freshwater / light inshore reel. The BG4500 fishes 350 yards of 40# braid and handles school tuna, dorado, sails, and yellowtail with its awesome smooth drag.
Daiwa just raised the bar, and shot across the bow of manufactures who still produce garbage reels at this price (are you listening Shimano, Penn, and Quantum). If you are not looking to buy a top tier reel like a Saltiga, Stella, or Van Staal - Just get this. For $100, how could you not be happy?
Travis : Reel stopped functioning after only 5 uses and ironically its 5 days past the return date.
First of all, i recieved the reel on September 27th 2020, so I've only had the reel a few days over the 30 day return period. I have never owned a Diawa and I bought this after doing lots of research and even though there were some bad reviews, I saw many good reviews and hoped that the bad ones were just from a few faulty products. The first time out fishing with the reel I noticed it had a loud rubbing sound during retrieve but hoped it was just the sound of the line. After only 5 days of fishing, in a freshwater lake only, the sound has become a loud rubbing and clicking during retrieve. I even cleaned it after the 3rd use and it's only gotten worse. The gears have also started slipping. When I cast out and start reeling in, the handle will spin almost all the way full circle before catching the gear.
I have contacted their customer help and sent the reel to them in hoping they will replace this one for a working reel cause at this point I feel VERY disappointed in their product. Im waiting to hear back from them and I'll post an update as soon as I get an answer. I hope Diawa will hold up to their reputation and make this better.
Dr. Dulldull : Coole Rolle
Qualität mit Namen!!
kevin hatchett : Daiwa Black Gold spinning reel
Just what I wanted
Armando Aleman : Lightweight and Strong
Best reel so far and very cheap as well. If your looking for a real that performs like the top tier reels but at a much lower price this is the way to go.
David K : Good quality
Nicest reel I've ever owned. I did have to remove a spool spacer to adjust the line lay for 12 lb mono. Its not hard, but i had to remove the spool, a small bearing, and an extremely small washer to get at the spacers.
This reel is super smooth and seems to be built very well.

Very respectable reel. I went with the 3500. It is an unusual size which is why I did some home work. It was actually cheaper than the 3000 and not nearly as big as a 4000. I think it’s a great size as a surf reel. Came in a timely manner, did a lot of research since I’ve always been buying the cheapest because the sea rusts them out. I usually carry 4 reels n rods but most don’t last but 3-4 trips. I go surf fishing about two weeks a year and wanted to up my equipment. This reel does it. Dependent on what you fish for just Follow the lb braid or mono charts and you’ll know which is right for you. But if your torn between the 3000-4000, try out the 3500.
Pierre B. : Great Reel!
Really nice smooth and powerful reel. Handled bluefish to15lbs at the inlet with ease!
James j Choi : Might need to grease it often
It is really nice and smooth reel out of the box! Good looking reel!
Amazon Customer : Highly recommend
Works great. Love it. Use it saltwater fishing. Highly recommend
desertdog : The best value spinning reel ever.
For $100, how could you not be happy?
you can compare the product price from Costco, wayfair, bestbuy, lowes, target, homedepot, Walmart, ebay, amazon to find the best price for you
