Q:
I'm considering the csp50 for large tarpon. has anyone caught 100+ tarpon on this reel? how did it do?
Answer: I have the 60 and 80 for tarpon. I don’t think the 50 is enough reel for big fish.
Q:
What model is best for catching 50 lb stripers?
Answer: The 50, 60 and 80 all come with enough power to handle them. The only consideration would be how much line you want on the reel.
Answer: The Cabo 60.
Q:
What year model is the current sold?
Answer: I want to say 2015. It is a nice reel no complaints.
Q:
Do you have this fishing reel, CSP80PTSD? If yes, how much will it be? What is the delivery charge if it is deliver to Singapore. Thank you.

Answer: 2015 -got 2 at the same time as a gift to my son, He uses them when his charters want to fish Tarpon or shark. I have fished both ,he as i love them.they have good strong drag.I highly recommend them.
Answer: 2016
Q:
is this the new 2015 model?
Answer: Great question. I got mine in 2014 have not seen a newer model. Great work horse. I use them on all my charters.
Q:
Which model is most similar in size to a shimano 4000?
Answer: Weight wise and body size wise both the 40 and 50 would be comparable. The Quantum 50 is a 5000 size spool on a 4000 sized body. So you get the best of both worlds. About 320 yards of 30lb test braid, on a lightweight durable super light reel body. To match up line capacity, the 40 would be closest to the 4000.
Answer: Wore out a Shimano Stradic 6000 FH. over 8 years of fishing salt for Snook and Reds in E. Cen Fl. it took a beating. Went with the Cabo 50 on a St. Croix 20Lb. class FA H and it's perfect. It's super light
Answer: To be honest I really don't know I do not use Shimano reels, they are wonderful reels just not one that I have dealt with but I have heard many good things sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I will tell you these Cabo reels that I did purchase our first rate they are used buy a charter captain many large Tarpon and shark have been handled beautifully buy them. Still working
Answer: Sorry this was a gift. I’m not sure?
Q:
I need a bail arm quantum cabo 80 pt, how can i get it? Thanks
Answer: Contact Quantum or an authorized repair facility.
Q:
Is this the ptsd or ptse?
Q:
Can it be right handed?
Answer: Yes, easy swap around
Answer: Yes.
Q:
Has the backplay in the clutch been fixed?
Answer: Good question. I just had that occur on one of my 40's.
Q:
My question is, what size would be best paired up with a 11' star paraflex surf rod? i was thinking csp50 (5000)?
Answer: A 60
Answer: The 5000 isn’t a big body reel. I have it on a 7’6 redbone inshore rod and I like the fit and feel.
Answer: Think that would do nicely! Good Fishing!!!
Q:
would the CSP50 be a good size for a 10 foot Okuma ?
Answer: Probably not too much rod for that size real more like a 7 foot rod
Answer: The quantum reels are small compared to other brands in the same size. So I’ll say CDP60.
Answer: The short answer is yes. I don’t know what you are surf fishing for, but as long as it is not a very big shark, you should be fine. I have caught an 8 ft nurse shark with it though.
Answer: For a light action rod? Yes It a cool looking reel.
Q:

Answer: Think that would do nicely! Good Fishing!!!
Q:
Is the quantum Cabo cap 60 a saltwater reel?
Answer: Yes. It’s an excellent inshore and offshore reel with the largest effective drag of any coffee grinder style reel on the market that I’ve found at that price point.
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes
Q:
Reel be paired with ugly stik elite? what size reel, if i'm using a medium light rod for lake/river fishing of trout and small bass?
Answer: Probably the 30, maybe 40. You are doing yourself a disservice by pairing this reel with a cheap rod. Spend a little more on the rod and you’ll have a setup that you’ll be much happier with.
Q:
What's the difference between the csp40 and the csp50? also why are most sellers asking for more for the csp40?
Answer: Mainly just spool size. The reel body is pretty much same size. I can’t really tell a difference in the two.
Q:
Are these reels the ptsd or the ptse models?
Answer: Mine is a CSP40 PTsE
Q:
What's the max drag
Answer: The Cabo 50 is 35# drag I believe. I have two of them. They’re my go to reels. Matched them with a diawa havier Rod from bass pro. Love the set up. Find the reel on the web for about $149. Good luck
Answer: The quantum Cabo 40 max drag is 30#.
Q:
What’s best for bonefish
Answer: This reel is great for both fresh and saltwater fishing! A lot of great reviews from both kinds of fishing. Hope this helps.
Q:
How much 60lb braid does an 80 hold?
Answer: First, let me say I don’t even know who sells 60 lb braid. All I have ever seen is 65. To find the answer to your question you must know the diameter of the 60 lb braid.
Answer: Do not know on the 80
Q:
How do they differ from the quantum inshore reels?the smoke series?
Answer: Smallest is the CSP40PTSE model. We recommended 230/10 (yds./lb) mono and 270/30 Braid Line
Answer: It showed up damaged and sent it back to the vendor and and they didn’t send out a new one. I contacted them and they said I needed a shipping number that I had lost and they couldn’t help me without it. Talking to a person at Amazon in like trying to contact God! So no more Amazon for me! Hope this is helpful .
Q:
what size pole would you recommend. i have a 12' penn carnage heavy surf casting rod
Answer: We would recommend an 80 size reel for the rod you are using. Thank you!
Answer: I have them on my 9ft st croix triumph medium heavy rod. Im sure how heavy the penn carnage is.
Q:
How does this reel cast?
Answer: Reel casts well. The Magnetic bail is a nice feature, it makes the first turn after casting effortless. We put a couple demos on a guide boat this season and the Captain had great success with them.
Answer: Great reel!
Answer: super. You must buy.
Answer: Have not tested it yet
Answer: Have not tested it yet.
Answer: Have not tested it yet
Q:
Is the csp40 a good size for LMBass to reds in the marshes?
Answer: The quantum cabo 40 is more than enough for for lmbass or reds. I personally caught some mangrove snapper with mine spoiled with 20lb braid.
Answer: It is a good all around reel. I use it in rivers and inshore fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Have caught up to 10 pounders. Have had most of the line stripped off before catching up to the hooked creature and breaking off my line. Enjoy this reel.
Answer: Yes. Only the biggest bull reds will test the drag on this reel.
Answer: I think yes
Q:
Can anyone confirm that this zebco quantum cabo is actually made by abu garcia?
Answer: The Cabo reels are not made by Abu Garcia. Quantum and Abu are two different companies.
Answer: Don’t know but it works great just landed a 50 lb halibut with it
Q:
How many yards of line does the 50 hold?
Answer: Braid: 325 yds/30lbs
Q:
What is the difference between ptsd a and ptse?
Answer:
Answer:
Q:
Country of manufacture?
Answer: Our reels are manufactured in China.
Q:
is this the 2013 model?
Q:
What is the ratio
Answer: I have to be honest I don't remember I bought two of them for my son who's a charter captain I can tell you they are great reels with his commercial use with Tarpon and shark they are flawless and he loves them. I have also use them on his boat to fight quite large fish and I am impressed by themthem.
Q:
What is the gear ratio for the cabo 80sz sp reel? and, does it have a switch to free reel without loosening the drag wheel or opening the bail?
Answer: it dos not have a switch for live learning as for the drag I fish light tackle on a kayak it’s the strongest spinnning real I have
Q:
can I put braided fishing line on the reel or do i need to put some kind of backing line on first
Answer: Use a small strip of athletic tape instead of putting backing on it. It gives the line something soft to grip
Answer: I put it directly on the spool but before putting it on I first put a wrap of first aid tape on the spool. The first aid tape gives the line something to bite in to and prevents it from slipping.
Q:
What is the smallest of the reels as far as line capacity and weight?
Answer: The 40
Q:
What is the warranty on the 60 size reel?
Answer: Don’t know, but it will definitely outlive the warranty. I have a 40 that is around 5 years old and used ocean fishing and still going strong. Like it better than the new ones, after Zebco purchased the company.
Q:
What line and yards on this reel
Answer: I don’t know the exact line capacity but on my Cabo 40 I was able to 299 yards of 30 lb braid with 5 yards backing. The Cabo is the same just with a bigger spoil. Hopefully this helps.
Answer: I am sorry but I purchased 2 for my son who Is a charter captain in SW Florida ,I can tell you he has caught many large tarpon an shark with them and loves them.I have used them they are fantastic! But he took care of spooling them.I know he used 80lb braid but have no idea how many yards of line went on.we an his clients never came close to being spooled.Hope that helps.

Q:
Just purchased the 60 and 40. are these the ptse or the ptsd ?
Answer: Hi! They are ptse. Ptse is the latest model made.

Answer: Ptse
Q:

Answer: They are different reels in spools

Answer: No
Q:
I fish in ponds and lakes. should i get this pole? i rarely go fishing in oceans and great lakes. i'm looking for a quality reel.
Answer: This is a quality reel suited for lake fishing.
Answer: I love this reel but feel like it might be overkill for a lot of inshore fish. If you're fishing for large catfish or muskie or big fish then this might be a good fit bit I can't imagine using it for aller species.
Answer: it's a top notch reel so you can use it for both fresh and saltwater in case you need to. Highly recommended!!
Product reviews of Quantum Cabo Saltwater Spinning Fishing Reel, Changeable Right- or Left-Hand Retrieve, Magnum CSC Drag System, SCR Aluminum Body and Side Cover, Silver/Blue
JCKalb : Awesome
I love this reel. Similar to my Shimano stradic but with a killer drag. This reel is really amazing and beautiful to look at. Although I did take some heat from a mate for having a "Gucci" reel it performed and I brought in big jack after big jack horsing them in with amazing pull on the drag. This drag is good to every bit of 50 pounds of pressure though I only cranked it to 25-30 when bottom fishing. a Huge value in this rod though.
Nopeers : Great Reel
I have a couple of the Boca Reels from Quantum. They are such excellent and durable reels that I decided to get the new Cabo 40 PTSD. I loved the looks of the new reel and the fact that it is totally redesigned for 2013. It is one of the smoothest and most powerful small reels that I have ever owned. The adjustability of the drag is incredible and it is dependable during sustained battles with large fish. The bail system with the magnetic lock is the best bail system on the market in my opinion. I have never had one of those false casts where the bail trips while pitching a lure and the bail still trips easily with a gentle turn of the handle on the 40. The lightness of the reel combined with the right rod makes it a pleasure to use on extended fishing trips where artificial lures are the bait of choice. This may sound like a commercial for the New Cabo Fishing Reels and in a way, it is. I highly recommend this reel as well as the less expensive Boca model to anyone. I have always been a stickler or quality equipment and these reels fill the bill.
nicholas d. : Excellent reel
Excellent reel!
Amazon Customer : Great Reel
Smooth cranking, ample line capacity, light weight and a great drag. perfect for SW Florida fishing. Even handled a six foot shrimp eating alligator and an eight foot sawfish. (Both released unhurt). reel has handled it all without any issues. A quick rinse and a little lube and your good to go.
Christopher Secor : Five Stars
Amazing reel, incredible quality, ascetically pleasing, smooth drag. Worth it.
Marcus Garcia : Awesome
Great real, can bring in a whale
zach patchell : Excellence
This is one of the best on the market. But, probably the best looking. Great price too!
ShowMeTheShrimp : Flimsy Handle
The handle has a design flaw.
The handle is prone to snap.
Quantum should have put a solid handle on this reel instead of the flimsy one.
Mine snapped when using 20 lb monofilament.
I wish there was an upgrade to the handle.
My Quantum Cabo 50 PTSD has been gathering dust in my garage for two years.

Jim Tynan : My favorite inshore striper reel
Love this reel, bought two 15 years ago. They came with a silk bag and a little multi tool. This one came with a few shins and that’s it.
E Santos : Best reel ever
Strong reel very smooth!!
Hunter : Something to consider
To start, I love this fishing reel. In my opinion it is the best reel at its price point. Superior drag and line capacity. I was able to spool something like 425 yards of 20lb braid on this thing! Which is crazy! This is my go to set up and work horse for tarpon and bridge snook. Super smooth drag! Some cons I wish I would have known before buying. Do not buy this reel if you mainly fish with artificials, you will be plagued wind knots and this other silly thing that happens when you go to close the bail. The line tends to fold over the top of the spool and you have to manually set the line back on track, it’s not a big deal, more of just an annoyance. The other con is that the reel has developed some slight back play in the anti reverse, nothing crazy, just a small amount of play that is annoying. These are not deal breakers For me but something to consider if your looking for a smooth shimano type set up.
R. GEO : My favorite 80 series reel.
Super smooth drag and ultra reliable. What more can you ask for?
jack creaig : Excellent Drag

Charles C. Grimes : Great Reel
Works as good as it looks. This was the reel I was looking for, have quite a few fishing hours on it already and its performance is out standing. Fishing has been in salt water with braided line and fluorocarbon leader. Worth the money spent.

WR : Great reel for saltwater use
I have been using the Cabo 50 for awhile now and as a charter captain it gets alot of use on the boat. They have been solid reels.
Todd : Reel deal!!
This is without a doubt the best inshore spinning reel I've owned so far after using it this past weekend on about 5 different outings . VERY smooth and light as a feather. Seems very well constructed and I didn't really see anything I can complain about yet. I went to this from a Shimano Stradic and I was kind of apprehensive, but after using it, I'm so glad I made the switch. This is a fantastic reel for the money. Try one out, you'll be glad you did..
Amazon Customer : Light, tough, and just feels good.
The drag and components will hold up to a 50+ lb. Red Drum; time and time again.
Nikola N. : Cabo CSP50PTSD
This thing looks awesome, great design, and out of the box is much smoother than the Stradic FJ that I have just returned for not being smooth and having some handle play. Cabo design is very nice, they really saved some weight with this design and plus it looks sophisticated. The only thing I did not like is some small imperfections on the rotor but it is because it is made of composite material in this size and not aluminum like larger sizes, but again you can find this only on certain edges. The bail wire is a solid wire and the magnetic bail is a very nice feature. If you buy this reel you will appreciate the design once you've held it in your hands and cranked the handle because this thing is sleek. I will write an update after I get on the water with it but it sure looks promising. I've had a Daiwa Saltist, Okuma V System, and Stradic FJ and out of all I like the Cabo the best. There is a full review by Alan Hawk that shows the reel completely disassembled and he reviewed all the reel's functioning parts. He referred Cabo's drag as being second best after Stella's, I think that counts for something since he actually fished the reel extensively before doing the review. He tested the drag rating on dead weight and found that it is actually capable of reaching the advertised drag rating which is very impressive for a reel in this price range.
7/21/13 Update: Tested it today on some larger white amur, one was aprox. little over 20#. Drag is just sweet, every time fish makes a run it gives line without jerking. Only thing I found weird is spool back play on the shaft itself,I figured its because their design is quite different than other spool attachments, but everything else about it is great and it handles larger fish with ease.
David F. : Love it - replaced my Jigmaster baitcasting reel for heavier fishing.
Great so far - took it tuna fishing and it had no problem with light weight bonita / skipjack / yellowtail (up to about 30lb). I didn't catch anything heavier, but this thing definitely feels like it would have no problem pulling in a 40 or 50 lb fish. I might not rely on it to pull it up over the edge of the boat, especially if there is a gaffe near by, but for fighting a strong relatively heavy fish, this thing is great. Definitely suitable as a replacement for a baitcaster if you don't really care for those.
Butterfly : Great buy
Great little reel

Great reel and service , first time was a king mackerel about 15 lbs. I like it!
Amazon Customer : Quality
I love how the Cabo 50 handles big fish. Went on a tarpon fishing trip and the Cabo 50 handled tarpon over 70 lbs with ease.
WR : Great reel for saltwater use

Haven’t used it yet but I bought it for saltwater fishing, it seems built really well can’t wait to try it out

Great reel best reel for the price
T. in Amazon : This is awesome!
Quantum Cabo PTs40 and PTs50 are hard to find on the west coast. Bought a PTs50 and like it so much, I bought two PTs40. A rod to match isn't easy to find: An Ande STJ 70MHFS 7.0ft is perfect. Albacore tuna on a light weight spin reel: No brainer! Having the time of my life!
Ronald Akers : Five Stars
Excellent quality smooth operating!
Scouting4reds : Line doesn't lay right on spool
I just received this reel that I ordered off Amazon. I had to spend about 3 hours to get the line on this reel to lay right. I want it to lay evenly straight up and down, no cone shape from top to bottom or bottom to top. Normally that is the way it lays straight out of the box without adding or removing any spacers. This reel filled up the bottom of the reel and left so much space at the top. I ended up having to use all 4 spacers ( the 2 already on the reel and the 2 extras) on the shaft and that didn't solve the problem. I had to add tape to the top part of the spool that was already 3/4 full of mono line before it was even close to even. There appears to be some sort of defect cause the bail roller was not going all the way to the top of the spool when spooling line onto the reel. I have not used the reel and the reel appears to be well made, but if the line doesn't lay right on the reel right out of the box, then that is a real problem. I will update my rating once I use it a while. I have never had this happen with any other reel I have ever owned. I was always a Shimano guy and thought I would give Quantum a shot. This is very disappointing. Has anybody else experienced this problem with the Quantum Cabo reels?
Update: Called Zebco/Quantum and rep got in touch w/ tech. Tech advised to only put on the narrowest spacer on the shaft. Bingo! That worked. Line lays right now. Again, will advise on performance of reel after I catch some fish.
Amazon Customer : This is great reel too
I own 4 of the CABO 120 reels. This is great reel too, but needed a larger size. Returned it for a CABO 60. I recommend this series of reels to anyone.
Killian Tonjes : Dope
Thing is a hog
Jacqueline M. Markovich : Quantum Cabo updates
The newly designed Cabo may look different but it's as good and better than previous models. Lighter with a very smooth drag.
Charles C. Grimes : Great Reel
Works as good as it looks. This was the reel I was looking for, have quite a few fishing hours on it already and its performance is out standing. Fishing has been in salt water with braided line and fluorocarbon leader. Worth the money spent.
nicholas d. : Excellent reel
Excellent reel!
tom : Cabo is king
What more is there to say if you don’t have a car bro you’re not the king I have a whole bucket of pens and Shimano’s and other variations of reels that have frozen up and door I’ve lost their ability to reel in huge fish if you buy one he’s combos and can’t afford it they were well worth the money. This will be the last real you’ll ever buy the dragons smooth catch a big fish the titanium bale all the stainless steel bearings that are sealed it’s pretty much bulletproof from the salt water a little bit of care and I tell you it’ll be a real of a lifetime I highly suggest it to any fisherman of any level
Tex : Buying my 2nd one.
I'm buying a second one right now. I really love this reel. Did a nice job of landing a 28" redfish in just a matter of 5 min or so. Using it on an Abu Garcia Veritas 6'6" medium graphite rod. Great combo.
Butterfly : Great buy
Great little reel
FREDERICK JONES : Five Stars
