Product reviews of Daiwa Saltist Star Drag Conventional Reel
Random guy : Yellowtail killer
Great reel and great price got it paired with diawa proteus wn xhfb rod. Yellowtail killer
Dkova : I’m sure this reel is good but ...
First reel I received was used / broken. Amazon was quick to ship me a replacement. Just used the replacement and free spool won’t dis engage properly. I’m sure these are good reels. I must just have bad luck with these. Will order accurate reel once I am refunded
mike : Heavy with a light Clicker
Heavy reel, with too light of Clicker spring resistance for pier. Awesome smooth drag for live bait yellowtail killer! Looks sweet with power handle. Only 25lb. of drag for a heavy reel . Im switching to penn fathom 30/ 2 speed for about the same $. With fathom you get 40lbs of drag, its much lighter, has a better clicker with 2 speeds! Ive been fishing S.D. piers & boats for 30 yrs so you can respect this honest review to make the right choice and investment! tnks for looking out bro!
Lou B. : So far, so good
Bought this reel last week and so far i love it. I love the big ball handle. Ive only used it for 1 day so far, but so far so good.
Greg Jacob : Excellent reel, but...
Excellent reel. Smooth drag, but the drag could be a bit stronger. I have owned 2 of these over the years. For the money though, I would buy the 2 speed Okuma Metalloid reel. Stronger drag, super tough low gear and $50 cheaper.
Michael : Replacement of the Black and gold Saltist line still great reel
So like stated these seem to be newer version of the Saltist B&G. but for bit more $ new color and handle for about $20 more then what B&G was. Still same drag and gear ratio and sizes available. i use them for all around from live baiting for cobia and striper to trolling for mackeral/ tuna of shore clicker is nice and loud. new handles are softer seem like you can get more power with less resistance then the football knob. i got 4 shipped only had to send one back was missing the bag of goodies with the reel seat clamp and maintenance tool. order 5 to replace that one which had it all in there. i spooled 500yards of 65lb grand jbraid which the old saltist i spooled 500 of the 65lb regular jbraid so spool holding about same. only CON you can get a Penn Fathom 40nld Lever drag for around the same price and put same amount of line on it and have more drag and bit faster gear ratio. But I'm a Daiwa Junkie so these will do.

caine : Excellent reel. Feild tested today
Excellent reel. Feild tested today. Super tough fights with huge African pompano and a chubby amberjack. Reel worked amazingly.

David Burris : Great reel
This is my new favorite reel
It replaces my Trinidad TN16 and 16A
These cast very well and are of high Quality Very smooth and quiet. I have them in 20H, 30H, 35H, 35P, 40H, 40P I think offering them in both gear ratio’s is a great idea one high speed ( the “H” ) for jigs and a low speed ( the “P” ) for bait/ rockfish...the 35P is my new Rockfish/ lingcod reel the 5.1:1 gear ratio is spot on for this use.... the 35 size hold 375yds of 65# 832 Sufix braid that’s my line of choice it’s quite and easy on your guides and quite strong although you do need to be good at your braid knots it’s slippery line
But the Daiwa Saltist Star line of reels is by a long shot the best bang for the buck....
