MAGNETIC OIL Magnetic Oil is one of a new generation of Nano Fluids that can change density and shape when a magnetic field is applied. | CORROSION RESISTANT BALL BEARINGS Last up to 12 times longer than standard stainless steel ball bearings. | AIR ROTOR The Air Rotor weighs up to 15% less than ordinary rotor designs. Its unique shape reduces unnecessary weight while distributing stress more evenly throughout the rotor for maximum strength. | ABS SPOOL The ABS spool's maximized core diameter and reversed taper mean 100% useable line. No "dead" line buried in a deep core. You can fill it with line right up to the edge of the spool lip without fear of tangles. ABS cause less casting friction for longer and easier casting. The huge spool diameter line flow freely in larger coils and produces less line memory coil. |

Questions about Daiwa SSaltist Spinning Reel
Q:
Best size for tarpon?
Answer: If you are putting together a rig strictly for tarpon I would go at least a 4000 if not the 4500 those will get you 17.5 to 22 # drag respectively. If you want to put together something that is a little more of an inshore Red, Trout, Snook, Jack and Tarpon rod, the 3000 size is quite a bit lighter, almost 5 oz., and will be nicer to use all day and still give you decent line capacity and 15# of drag. The fight may be a little longer but the reel will take it. You might consider the Ballistic Ci4 in a 3000 size as well for the combo rod, 22# of drag, light but composite frame.
Q:

Q:

Q:
The 4000 model is not a manual bail correct
Answer: Ha, this is hilarious. 4000 is both automatic and manual. But don’t trust me, go to Diawa’s site. Actually a better search is done on Google as even Diawa is stingy about info on bail returns. 4500 and up are manual. Believe me
Answer: my 5000 series is ... not sure about 4000, but would assume it is the same.

Product reviews of Daiwa SSaltist Spinning Reel
Zoran : Upgrated BG
Built quality fills cheaper than Penn Slammer III.
Especially the airrotor, that is made of graphite (hard plastics).
Otherwise seems good. Spinning is smooth.
There is no option to give 4 and a 1/2 stars. This is what I would give.
Scott Rivas : Best saltwater spinner
One of the best saltwater spinning reels made for the price
Murica_1st : Best reel under $200

Have been a Shimano guy for decades. Over the past 5-10 years I've noticed a major decline in product quality. As for this reel, I can't speak of the longevity, but I can speak volumes about the little bit I do know. First the drag has a ton of depth. I have the ability to really dial in the drag for exactly what I'm targeting. Line retrieve is smoother than most $300+ reels. Materials used seem to be on par with its price point. I'll update after a season of punishment
Edit:1-2-18

Punished this thing for the past year and still operates like new. Beats the Saragosa, Sustain, and obviously the Stradics in terms of overall value. Line retrieve with respect to smoothness is butter and between the Sustain and Gosa when tight. Little heavy, but I don't mind it, let's me know I can drop it and step on it. Definitely no Ci4 Stradic here. Best reel under $300... heck I'll go $400... My humble opinion though
Amazon Customer : Sleek looking
Solid body easy to reel nice looking
Amazon Customer : Fabulous reel
this is my boat reel off shore...all the diawa reels are great quality...pricey but good for me
chim cánh cut : best bang for the bucks
better than BG and water resistant so u can use on the boat, dont try to swim with it like vanstal and u should be ok.
the design of this is excellent, i like the power of saltist over Penn Slammer, although i love the slammer knob but it would never be as smooth as Saltist, and this smoothness is the level of Stella, and yes i have 2 stella SWB and SWC both 14k, all 3 are about the same , i havent caught any over 40lbs with saltist so i dont know if it will still hold . i bought another 4500 on ebay just for spare. why do i have too many reels? because I can.
Suzanne Puertas : Excellent reel for the money.
The operation is very smooth for a saltwater reel. Will purchase again.
Anonymous : Bang bang bang
Paired my 4000 with a 9 ft daiwa td surf rod and 20lb daiwa j braid x8. It's just so smooth casting and reeling.
Trung Lai : Must have for anglers
This is must have for all angler. I have the 4000 model but i felt i needed more lines so upgrade to the 5000. Really smooth and had no trouble pulling in my catch. All my friend love this. Its pricey but worth it. I paid about the same price at bass pro shop for a smaller model. Covid 19 was reason i wasnt able to return it and got this bigger model instead. I will keep both model. Always love daiwa.

Nader Okasha : Amazing
I have had this reel for a few months now love it, it has taken a beating from large sting rays to bull red fish. You have the line capacity you need, plus it's mag sealed. Plus the drag on it is amazing. For the price can't beat it .I own the 8000.
Montoya : Very strong reel
Very dependable reel
Amazon Customer : Very nice reel
While a bit pricey, it's very smooth and has a great drag...not to mention being beautiful.
kane : Lots of value for little money.
Very smooth pair it with Okuma cedros rod perfect match , can’t wait to reel in some big fish .
Vannrambo : It is a little too big
Sorry no things wrong with it.it is a little too big.so I want a small than this. Question is the 6500 is small than 8000? I want 6500. If it is smaller.
Zagdiel Olivera : Nice reel
Muy buen carrete,no lo compre para probar que tal era, solo lo compré porque es uno de los mejores,se lo recomiendo a los pescadores de agua salada ????????
Victor Slyusarev : Good
I like
Bgarza : Buy it now
Absolutley perfect. Exceeding every expectation. Ive had it for about a month and have used it every other day. Definatley worth the money.
tc : No anti reverse on a $160 reel!!!!!!!!!
I really like this reel but 1 thing i find very annoying is no anti reverse. Everytime i drop the rod tip the reel handle goes with gravity and tangles line around the spool. Very aggravating to say the least when u can pick up a $20 piece of crap reel anywhere that won’t. Way overpriced because of this 1 minor detail. Wtf was diawa thinking. I was looking for a shimano substitute but diawa is not it apparently.
ilan klifi : Great product Meets all my expectations

jincorpus : They are good reels I landed a 7 foot hammerhead on the ...
I have 6 of these reels 3000 4000 4500 5000 6000 and 6500. They are good reels I landed a 7 foot hammerhead on the 6000 with no problems. They do need a little maintenance now and then. Overall I think they are great reels.
RUDY GARCIA : La honestidad vale
kane : Lots of value for little money.

hong kyu park : no good
no good
Amazon Customer : Sleek looking

Bighuie : Bail has to be closed manually.
Good quality reel. Only unexpected thing was bail has to manually be closed. Not automatic when you turn handle. The 4000 reel closes automatically but the 4500 is manual.
Giovanni Ortenzi : Quality
Great reel
Mikey Hastings : Five Stars
Awesome lil reel!!!
max : not durable
I expected a lot from this reel and I bought 2 of them. The first one gave ou after 2 trips, the reel becomes not smooth in some occasion. It feels like the gear does not line up correctly. I tested it out extensively with light tackle, 15lb braid and 1oz jig for cocktails blue. even tho it does very well when new, i can't see the zinc gear last long. For this money, I want a power durable reel..
Stephen : overall it is a good investment, slightly on the smaller size, still durable. Would recommend.
I bought this reel a couple of months back. I only had been able to test it out on smaller fish. Sand trout, catfish, perch, and even puffer fish. I even caught a stingray with it. I have recently started catching red and black drum with this reel on a 9-ft surf rod. I use 40-lb braided line and roughly get 230 to 260 yd depending on what I use. It has a maz 17 lbs Drag but have yet to used max drag. I have caught 10 red and black drum over 23 inches with this reel. They have pulled a lot of drag and it has held up very well. The last fish I caught with it was a 37 and a half inch black drum. It put up a good fight for over 15 minutes. Highly recommend this real. However I will say that I am planning on stepping up and getting the bigger size to have for bigger line, longer spooling, and stronger drag.
konstantinos : Great reel!!!
Excellent reel for heavy casting purposes!
Great quality and strength, extra smooth rotation, appropriate for big game!
Wellington : Saltist 4k
Awesome reel!!!!!!
Esteban : Butter smoth reel
Butter smoth reel with
Kim Cunningham : Awesome
Worked awesome. Caught some tuna.
Ivan N. Jr : Works well with braid
All expectations met. Is a bit heavy but performs as advertised.
Cyaco : It is fine reel!
It may be good for surf fishing but it's little heavy for me....
I should have gotten 2500 instead.
But, I installed power knob and it looks good!!!
Mike Dodson : reliable quality
Diawa has apparently done its work and produced a fine reel

Justin Lee LaFerney : Smooth as silk
This is one of the smoothest reels I have ever used.
I have read reviews online that this reel is a lot larger than any other reel in its class wich worried me until it arrived. I bought the Saltist 2500 and its the same size as my Penn Battle II 2500.
From casting to reeling in the fish this reel is smooth as silk!
