Questions about Waterworks-Lamson Liquid Fly Reel Sealed Conical Drag System Large Arbor
Q:
Is this made for both left and right hand retrieve?
Answer: Comes set up for left hand retrieve (right handed casting). You can switch, instructions are included. Nice reel!
Answer: Yes
Q:
Where is this reel made?
Answer: How I understand it is the castings are done in Asia, the machined parts and assembly are done by the Lamson in their USA Facility. Nice reels, great price. I'm impressed with the 4 Lamson Liguids I own in numerous sizes.
Answer: From Lamson’s website... Liquid’s high-quality castings are imported, but the components critical to the drag system are CNC-machined in the US. Liquid reels are assembled in Boise
Answer: Idaho, maybe mfg. Elsewhere. It's a great reel.
Answer: The spool and frame are made in Korea all the rest of the parts and assembly are done in U.S.A. This reel is a work of art and I could not do better for the price! I love it!
Answer: It says that it is 100% made in the US, and materials is 50% sourced in the US I think.
Answer: Idaho USA
Q:
What does the 2 mean on the reel itself? I just ordered a -5+ and no where does it say that on the reel. It has the number 2 instead.
Answer: The 2 is the legacy Liquid sizing convention. -5+ is the sizing convention of the new gen Liquid of the same size as the legacy Liquid 2. I bet you ordered the vapor color. Vapor is the color available with the legacy Liquids as well as the new gen liquids. Now there's gunsmoke instead of black. The new gen and legacy reels are the same size, and spools from either will fit either frame. You can compare the dimensions on the Lamson website.
Answer: They probably shipped you the wrong one
Q:
How much line does the 7+ hold?
Answer: Approximately 225 yards of 20lb dacron backing with 90ft of 7wt fly line. Really depends on what weight fly line and taper you use but that gives you a good idea.
Answer: More than enough... Enough for at least a 100 yards of 30 lb. backing plus a spool of your favorite fly line...
Answer: I just filled one with braid line 30 pound test. It took 300 yards, plus 100 feet of sinking fly line
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I put 150 yards of 20lb Dacron and 90’ 8 wt of full sink 250 grain shooting head on mine. It fits perfect
Q:
Is the color "smoke" a fancy word for black? It looks a little more grey than black in the picture.
Answer: It will be more of a grey.
Answer: It's more of a gunmetal grey
Q:
How many yards of 20 lb backing and 30 lb backing when used with 10wt wulf triangle taper wf floating?
Answer: You always want to use 100 yards to fill up the spool.
Q:
Is this reel made in the USA?
Answer: To the best of my knowledge it is. That’s always my preference. It’s a great reel. No complaints. Looks awesome.
Answer: Yes it is! In Idaho.
Q:
Has anyone used this for Spey with a running line? Any gap issues between the spool and the reel?
Answer: We have not heard of any jumping issues with running lines. If you are using a very thin mono running line I could see it happening but it has not been an issue in the past.
Q:
Can you get this as just the reel housing with no spool?
Answer: I would not think so. Maybe check the Waterworks-Lamson website directly and ask them.
Q:
Does price showing of $129.99 include the 2 extra spools and carrying case as advertised?
Answer: No. Just the reel with one spool. The 3 spool deal is listed elsewhere. Do a search. It is $179.00
Answer: Yup, solid deal
Q:
thinking about getting a 4 weight fly rod what is the best match a 3plus for 2-4 or 5plus for 4-5 weight rod ?
Answer: The 3+ is the best match for a 4 wt line. The 5+ maybe if you like a lot of backing or favor DT lines.
Answer: Go with a smaller reel. It is easier to cast a light 4 weight rod with a smaller reel. They will all handle 90 feet of fly line plus and acceptable amount of backing. Most all the reels today have a great drag so don’t worry about that. Probably a 3 plus. Hope that helps
Answer: It depends on the areas you plan on fishing. If you decide that you are going fish small streams only, then the 2-4 is suitable, but. If you plan that you want to go after larger fish, then go with 5+. I am assuming we are talking about reels to go with the rod. By doing so, you get a reel that fits the lower and upper weight ranges, and the only thing you need to change is the rod. If you want, you can also switch out your line weight by having extra spools loaded with the preferred caste weight.
Answer: 3+ would be a better match for most 4wt fly rods.
Q:
How much line does the 5 hold?
Answer: Don’t know the exact numbers, but the 5 is for line weights 4-6 which means it will hold enough line for a 100yrds of 20 lb backing and a spool of fly line in that weight (4-6)...
Answer: I bought the 7 and it held a 7 wt foward line and 50 yards of backing with room to spare.
Answer: I put 100 yards of backing and cortland wf floating 7wt Line on mine with pleny of room
Q:
is it anodized?
Answer: The Waterworks-Lamson Liquid Fly Reel is anodized twice to make it more resistance to nicks and abrasions, but no reel is immune to rough abuse or a good fall on some sharp rocks. Any reel is an investment and should be treated well. The Lamson Liquid has quality features found in more expensive reels, but at a reasonable price.
Answer: Yes. Not sure what type of anodizing
Answer: Yes
Q:
I have a 8 weight 9 foot rod. What reel? 7+ or 9+?
Answer: Hi Matthew. If you have more rods on the larger, or smaller side of the 8, then I would let that make the decision. Otherwise, I tend to go on the smaller, lighter side of things if you don't need the larger size for more backing capacity etc. Hope that helps!
Answer: Lamson Liquid
Q:
What is the warranty or return on this reel?
Answer: Our return policy is in the listing but it it 30 days money back paid shipping. The reel itself is covered by Waterworks Lamson's limited lifetime warranty. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
Q:
How many yards 30# backing will the 8/10 take with RIo 10wt flats pro elite?
Q:
What size reel for a 6 weight fly rod?
Answer: I have two Lamson litespeed ls2 that I use for my 5 and 6 weight. I have a liquid in -7+ for my 8 weight, however, I would use it for a 5 or a 6. Great large Arbor for either of them. You can go with a -5+ for either 5 or 6. Hope that helps you out.
Answer: Use 5 size which covers a 4-6 size. I've matched a 6 wt 9' 6" ECHO fly rod and its a great combo! Enjoy!
Answer: I have a size -5+ that I use for trout spey. I think it would do well for a 6-weight rod
Answer: For me... 5+
Q:
Can the reel be conveted to RH retrieve for this particular model?
Answer: Yup, easy switch up
Q:
Does it come with the 2 extra spools and carrying case? because i i already ordered once and i only got the reel!!
Answer: Yes if the price is 169.99. The reel only is usually 99.99. Just be sure you select the right option.
Answer: It came with 2 extra spools. 3 spools total with a case.
Q:
I need something I can dunk in the surf. Is this really sealed from saltwater?
Answer: Judging by the material make up of the reel I would thing it is OK. Regardless, I'd throughly since in fresh water after.
Q:
What’s the actual weight of the reel?
Answer: Two questions: the reel on a scale is light, I’m not sure what It weighs but it’s not much. As far as the pairing to a rod, choose what matches, 4wt rod=4/5 liquid. I’ve got several of these reels, I like the 3 pack for line type switch, they’re new but seem good, I’ll fish them for years and try to wear em out! Good luck
Answer: I have not weighed it. I would think that the Lamson website would list a weight. I do know that it is a very lightweight reel for its size. Much lighter than my Ross Canyon of about the same capacity.
Q:
Is the vapor more silver or gold colored ?
Answer: My buddy has a vapor and I remember it being more of a grayish silver.
Answer: Silver.
Answer: Don’t know. Mine is kind of dark Gray
Answer: Neither. It is pretty gray.
Q:
Does the reel silent retrieve? Can you fan the spool to pick up slack line?
Answer: The spools have a plastic clicker installed at the base of the axel. So they do make a loud clicking in both the retrieve and run modes. You can easily disable this feature by bending the clicker on each of the spools so it won't make the clicking noise. Hope that helps.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is this large enough for spey setup
Answer: I don't see why not. I use my reel for euro nymphing. The reel shouldn't make any difference with a spey cast.
Answer: Probably not for a full spey line, but would work with skagit type lines.
Answer: No, I don't think so.
Answer: I’m not 100% sure. I bought this one for my 7 wt single hand rod and it works great
Product reviews of Waterworks-Lamson Liquid Fly Reel Sealed Conical Drag System Large Arbor
Patrick Hoonan : Awesome value
doesnt get much better than this for your money. Lamson makes high quality products
John Bowman : Great budget reel
Very impressed with this reel. Super value at the price. Lightweight, smooth, durable. The sealed drag is excellent - little or no startup or other jerks, works smoothly, can generate more drag than I need. The drags cone system is different, innovative, and simpler than standard stacked disc drags. Like others, Lamson uses the same drag in all their reels, so you are getting the same drag as you get in a top dollar reel. Easy to change spools and keep clean, arbor holds lots of backing and the fly line can still be kept off the crossbars. Can't see needing anything more expensive, great reel.
Gary E Bradshaw : Lamson: A Quality Reel at an Affordable Price
Lamson makes a quality product which is worth the investment. Reels costing 500-800 dollars or even more can’t give you any more in quality or performance. Buying an expensive product doesn’t mean you will become a better fisherman. Lamson gives you the quality you are looking for at an affordable price.
Brian Valliere : Ok
Reel looks and feels good. Nice and lite and drag works well but the clicker is a cheap piece of junk and will not last long for sure
Frank Maglin : Smooth handling with a fantastic drag
You can’t find a better reel for the price, assembled in Idaho.
Philastic Mac : It’s a KEEPER !
Solid reel and well constructed; I really like the deep slot in the middle that I can load up good amount of backing. I load up this reel with Rio fly line for streamers and test cast it to see how it goes. It works nicely and reels smoothly. It feels a bit heavier for me though and the clicking sound can be a bit loud.
Zviad Kukava : Super quality!
If you’re not obsessed to buy definitely expensive reel what very often happens to fly-maniacs, Lamson Liquid is what you really need in the stream. It’s not a reel only for beginners, it’s just a reel for fly fishers. Buy the different size spare spool in case and have a good luck!
Amazon Customer : Best budget fishing item I ever purchased
Great product, don’t have to spend hundreds for quality product. Lamson dosent disappoint with quality products.
Karen Hughes : Great value
Hard to beat for the price. Smooth, solid and light. Looks cool too. Companies favorably to more expensive reels.
zdoo : Great warranty service!
Great warranty service. I have had my Liquid real for more than five years. The handle recently came off and wouldn't screw back on. I called W-L. Actually talked to a warranty rep who told me to complete the online form & send in the real. He said he'd watch to it. I sent it in, they repaired it and got it back to me in less than a week!
Audrey : Great value for money.
Excellent reel. Perfect balance for my 10' 3wt. Love the sound and it has a nice smooth drag with more power than I'll ever need. Defiantly recommend.
WKJ : exactly what I expected at this price point
works fine for my purpose.

branbry : Nice reel for the price!
For the price, this is a quality reel. As long as you’re gentle with your gear this reel should last a long time. Since it’s cast and not machined it won’t handle the hard hits on rocks, etc. but it has a nice click and an excellent drag system.
Douglas W. Randall : Very nice for the money
I haven’t fish it yet but it looks good.
Razdin Keen : Smooth!
Just got back and I don't have one thing about this reel I don't like. It was easy to adjust the drag and I brought in some nice browns and bows with ease. Wish I woulda bought the extra spools before the trip. I will now and rock my different setups quick. Would definitely recommend.
Tim D'Amour : Not as advertised
Ordered this believing it would be the three pack (reel with 2 extra spools.) Only a reel arrived. Even the return label said 3 pack on it.
Jose Ignacio Hernandez : Price
Great reel for the price.
Audrey : Great value for money.
Excellent reel. Perfect balance for my 10' 3wt. Love the sound and it has a nice smooth drag with more power than I'll ever need. Defiantly recommend.
DouG wimberly : This reel has to be Best or near best for the money
Good sealed drag for saltwater applications - have caught lots of big bones - small tuna - dorado - roosters and some tough jacks. Get two or three and a new rod several spools of good tropical fly line - new pair of polarized - and you’ll still have money left over vs going very high end on one reel ( i have em all too )
Old Marine : Butter
size 9, awesome drag. large spool. excellent!

Eric M. Fink : Good reel at a modest price
Got this to go with a new 6 weight rod. Didn't need anything fancy, and this does the job fine.
Tony C : Exactly what I was expecting
Exactly what I was expecting.
Delivered on time I excellent condition.
Therxman : POOR QUALITY
BROKE AFTER FIRST USE, GARBAGE.
Roland : Great bang for the buck.
I love it. The drag is great and it is smooth. I fish about 8 to 12 hours a week. The reel is durable as well.
Amazon Customer : Fit, form, function is perfect
Completely satisfied with the purchase of these reels for a number of reasons. 1) They fit my modest budget, 2) "Mostly" built in USA. Besides the casting, the machining, assembly, and quality checks are done in the US, 3) The fit, finish, and function is exceptional. I will be buying additional spools and certainly more reels as I add to my fly-fishing war-chest.
