Answer: I wouldn’t go over 6lb test on it with it being a 500 series reel. I would suggest going to a 1000 series in a Piscifun Viper!

Let me first of say I have never been a fan of 500 series reels...until now! 500 series reels always seemed so small and cheap to me until I grabbed one of these! This reel is so well built and I was blowing away at how smooth it is to. It’s got a super silky drag to go along with the smoothness. On top of all of that it’s got a deeper spool to hold more line. I have a really hard time keeping my hands warm in the winter, the push button reel handle allows me to keep my hands in my golves while being able to fold down or out the reel handle! They really hit the nail on the head with this reel! If your anything like me, I like to protect my gear the best I can with a rod case. The small profile with the fold down handle to makes it nice and compact for putting in a rod case. I’ve been using Piscifun reels for a few years now and they simply are raising the bar on quality products at a great price! I highly suggest if you ice fish to grab one of these!

The fit and finish is just not there, but on a $25 reel the expectation can be to high. The fist one I got out of the box had some paint specs flaked off of the handle. Not as smooth as I had hoped from some other piscifun stuff that i had bought. One positive thing is the side fold handle built in I really do like that.

My first initial reaction while unboxing this reel was a good one! First off, i enjoy the collapsing handle that makes it easy to transport in a rifle case/rod case. Secondly, as I started to play around with it, you can really tell that they spent a lot of time perfecting this drag as it is smooth yet powerful. I also think that the way they protect the inside of the reel, so that snow cannot get in, is an absolute game changer as many serious ice anglers fish through some of the craziest snow storms. As far as weight, this reel compares to many high end reels and it is featherlight. I really enjoy how the spool isn’t narrow like other ice reels, making it an all purpose reel to put any type of line on. From 8 lb braid, to 2 lb mono, this spool can take it all! Not to just mention the performance, but this reel is also appealing to any ice fisherman as it comes with a sleek all black design, matching almost all rods on the market. All in all, I give a thumbs up to the folks at Piscifun, they hit this one out of the ball park! I’ll be ordering more soon

Was looking for a 500 size reel to pair with a 4.5' St. Croix ultralight rod. This reel fit my needs well. Reel is smooth, bail wire is nice and heavy, bail opens and closes reassuringly and it holds a decent amount of line (almost 200yds of 4lb in my case). This is my first piscifun product, overall I'm impressed. Seems to be of quality build, drag is smooth, anti-reverse is instant, frame is solid (little to no flex), reels smooth and looks really nice. For $20 it looks and feels like a reel that cost much more.

I use mostly Abu Garcia Ice max reels. I decided to give this one a shot. I’m not overly impressed with the build quality. The rotor movement isn’t as smooth as the ice max and the materials just seem cheap. However It does seem to have a smoother drag than the ice max. I guess I’ll find out how well it holds up over time. So far I probably wouldn’t buy another one.

Edit: after an entire winter of using this reel I have to say I really do like it. I shouldn’t have rated it before I used it for a whole season. I changed my rating to five stars from two. It has an excellent drag probably my favorite part about it.
