Product Description
We’ve created an apex predator baitcasting reel with the new shark inspired KastKing MegaJaws! The KastKing MegaJaws casting reel is a fully featured, tournament ready bait casting fishing reel that will provide years of performance in both fresh and saltwater fishing.
MegaJaws key feature is the color-coded gear ratio system allowing anglers to quickly identify specific gear ratio reels for certain fishing techniques and conditions. The MegaJaws is available in 4 different gear ratios - 5.4:1. 6.5:1, 7.2:1 ad a super-fast 9.1:1. Each gear ratio has its own body color, so you will quickly be able to identify the right reel for the job and fish more efficiently.
MegaJaws has high-performance, double shielded, stainless-steel ball bearings (11+1) and uses manganese brass main and pinion gears for strength and durability. The worm gear is nickel coated brass for long life and superior performance.
When it comes to fish stopping power, you’ll love the powerful carbon fiber drag washers that eliminates frustrating and inconsistent drag tension. They deliver a maximum drag power of 17.6 lbs so you’ll always be in control of even the largest fish in tough conditions.
MegaJaws is easy to cast! The Super Long-Cast KastKing LFTV (Low Friction Tapered Vortex) System with a funnel shape line guide provides a wider angle for the line to go through and effectively reduces friction for longer casting performance and reduction of overruns. MegaJaws braking system has 8 magnets and 10 levels of control for any size baits in all conditions to avoid overruns and backlashes. In addition, the spool tension knob has click adjustment stops to maintain their setting to deliver an even higher level of control over the speed of the spool to increase distance and eliminate overruns.
The KastKing MegaJaws baitcaster fishing reel has high performance features such as a CNC aluminum spool and handle, rubber cork handle knobs for comfort and a lightweight graphite body for all day long performance.

Q:
Saltwater suitable?
Answer: The description states, double shielded stainless steel ball bearings for saltwater protection. I would just make sure to rinse it down after use.
Answer: Yes, the mega is saltwater rated
Answer: Absolutely! Give it a hose rinse after and wipe down and good to go for next fish.
Answer: Yes they are made for both salt and fresh water fishing
Q:
What is the handle length?
Answer: Handle length on the MegaJaws Red (9.1:1) is 4 inches, 4.5 inches including the 2 cork handle knob caps.
Q:
what is the line capacity for each line size
Answer: Mono: 10/125 12/110 14/90
Answer: I'd say at most 100y of 12lb test mono or 50lb braid.
Q:
what size line for saltwalt fishing mono and braid
Answer: The line size would need to be chosen based off the type of fishing you are doing and what you are aiming to catch. Typically saltwater fishermen start with at least 25lb and include a leader.
Q:
Is this good for musky?
Answer: I am fishing in saltwater and caught 40 lb reds, I am from mi and I know musky get really big and fright real hard , I use 40 lb breaded line,
Answer: It’s not good for a bathtub
Answer: Yes it can. I use mine for all types of fishing . I only fish fresh water with it .
Answer: yes very powerful reel
Q:
My megajaws bait caster is making a clicking noise when i am reeling in anything? is anyone else having this problem?
Answer: Send it back right away. It should be quiet.
Answer: My Legend Royale white reel was doing the same thing. Your best bet is to return it and cut your losses and spend $25 more to get a better brand like 13 fishing or Abu Garcia's $100 reel models
Answer: I'm not having any problems with my reel it is fine you might need some reel oil or light grease
Answer: No I don’t have that problem
Answer: I haven't had any issues with mine but I do know that KastKing's customer service is top notch. Feel free to give them a call and they'll either help troubleshoot it or replace it.
Q:
does this reel have a bait clicker ?
Answer: What is a bait clicker???
Answer: No it doesn't have a bait clicker
Answer: No, it doesn't have a bait clicker.
Answer: Hi there,
Answer: No that is not a feature for this reel
Q:
I'm seeing conflicting things. which kast king reels have centrifugal brakes on the spool? i see mag brake specs, but no centrifugal.
Answer: Magnetic brakes only on this reel.
Q:
Is the 9:1 anti reverse?
Answer: All baitcast reels have anti-reverse.
Answer: i don't believe so
Answer: I do believe it is .
Q:
does this have the auto setting trigger? For instance does the reel re-engage automatically when the button is released without turning the handle?
Answer: No. The vast vast majority of baitcasters have a one-way clutch that is only engaged when you start retrieval. BTW, this real is a very good value and worth every dime.
Answer: No you have to turn the handle for it to record engage
Answer: No . It doesn't return by it's self . I'm not impressed with the reel for the money my self .
Answer: No.
Q:
Does it have an aluminum frame?
Answer: It has a graphite body, not aluminum. I was disappointed by this reel,in my opinion, the Royal Legend Elite is a better reel.
Answer: No graphite, but very light and surpringsly sturdy.
Q:
Mega jaws vs crixis?
Answer: I have both, and I always have a tendency to grab my Crixus over the mega jaws. They are both great reels, however, the crixus seems to have a better feel to me. It is just my personal preference, but both are good choices. I also have my megajaws on a 7'6" Estuary rod for jetty fishing, so not wanting to haul that around every trip could have something to do with it. I do a lot of inshore saltwater fishing, and they both hold up great in Salt or freshwater. Hope this helps.
Answer: Mega jaws
Answer: this reel is junk save your money used it for about 2 weeks and gave it to a buddy and he cusses every time he uses it and I just laugh
Q:
What do the colors mean and can I use this for fish like rays and sharks?
Answer: Each color is a different gear ratio. They are listed lower in the product listing if you scroll down. Using these in saltwater depends on the size your fishing. Generally people use heavier duty baitcasters or spinning reels for that.
Answer: color doesn't matter, you definitely can't fish for sharks
Answer: The different colors are different reel speeds. Rays and sharks no, more for Large Mouth Bass,
Answer: Colors relate to gear ratio. If you scroll down a little further the description will tell you which color for which ratio, and if its good for salt water
Q:
Is it equipped with a rod clamp?
Answer: Hi there,
Q:
what material is the frame made of?
Answer: I think aluminum or metal I'm not sure.
Q:
Is this reel any good for swimbaits???
Answer: Small swimbaits...yes. But larger swimbaits, 1/2 oz, 1 oz or larger I would go with a larger baitcaster that can take bigger text line and line capacity. I use this reel mainly for crankbaits.
Answer: The retrieval rate and adjustability make it a great swimbait reel. Long as you pair it with a good rod.
Answer: Your rod setup (action, tip, etc) has a lot to do with being "good for swimbaits". This is a great reel for the money! You'd have to do some homework regarding the depths of water you'll be fishing most to pick the best reel ratio for swim baits. And it depends on your reel command too. So in short: Yes this will work fine. But ultimately theres way more variables which need to be answered for anything more accurate.
Q:
Is this reel capable to handle a large musky?
Answer: I haven’t tried with musky yet but I have tried it on pike. The Northerns in a lake near average around 20 inch range and the big ones can be up to 30. I’ve caught around 15 northerns. The reel feels decent but I’m not sure how it’ll hold up to bigger notherns or even musky.
Answer: Hi there,
Answer: Not the large baits maybe the small to medium size baits.
Q:
Which reel would be good for small baits? I would like to micofish for trout and small bass and large trout.
Answer: The Kastking summer and centron spinning reel is a great light weight reel and very inexpensive. Also the Kastking Zefyer bait caster is very nice finesse reel. Both these reels will treat you well.
Answer: Sharky 111 in the 2000 series.
Q:
Does this real have a flipping switch on it???
Answer: Hi joeychains,
Answer: Negative but the star drag adjustment makes up for it
Answer: No, I believe the Lew’s Super Duty does.
Q:
Can I run 15lbs braided line for light tackle set up?
Answer: I run 40lb braid on mine no problem
Q:
Anyway i can get a replacment button for the megajaws?
Answer: Contact KastKing on face book

Answer: Go to the store and buy one.
Q:
will the predator red reel fit good on a 6’7, Med-L, 1 pc kastking perigee rod?
Answer: I can't imagine any reason it wouldn't be a great fit.
Q:
How often are these stocked, will there be another shipment?
Q:
Are kastking products made in the usa?
Answer: Yes they are. I have 4 reels and have had no problem with them.
Q:
Does it come with a reel cover
Answer: No it does't, but you won't be disappointed with the reel.
Answer: No
Q:
Would 1-2 oz lures work well with this reel
Answer: the min/max line weight is Max 12lbs Mono. Lure weight would be impacted by your rod limitations as well. Should be posted with the add for the reel, if not, go to the KastKing Website and look it up or call their support.
Answer: This reel did not last long

Answer: No I don’t have that problem
Answer: I haven't had any issues with mine but I do know that KastKing's customer service is top notch. Feel free to give them a call and they'll either help troubleshoot it or replace it.
Q:
Does the spool tension knob click? This question has been asked before and half the answers say yes and the other half say no.
Answer: The one I have doesn’t make any click!!
Answer: Yes, it clicks.
Q:
Does the kastking megajaws baitcasting reel 7.2:1 blacktip work for inshore fishing? i'm looking for a reel that supports a mono line capacity of 40lb
Answer: Hi Alvaro,
Q:
Does the higher gear ratio hold more line?
Answer: Hi Beau,
Answer: I use the black ones with 17lb floro and it does fine. I don't own the slower ones.
Answer: No
Q:
tiene boton para hacer el lansado del cedal?
Answer: Por supuesto
Q:
How long is the handle?
Answer: I don't know exactly but I think the grip before the reel is about 3" and after the reel about 16". I am not near the pole now.
Answer: 3-1/2" center grip to grip.
Q:
what size braided line for soft plastics
Answer: What size fish are you looking to catch and what type of fishing are you doing? These would need to be considered when choosing a line. You could start with anything form 15-20lb.
Answer: I prefer 14lb braid with 10 lb fluorocarbon leader line
Answer: I’d use mono for soft plastics... I put 17 lb mono on my Mega Jaws, both of em
Q:
Does it have centrifugal brake system as well, Or just the magnetic brake?
Answer: It just has a magnetic brake. Also, I never received my free Braided Line for submitting my comments about the KastKing MegaJaws Baitcasting Reel,7.2:1 Gear Ratio,Right Handed Reell,Blacktip.
Q:
where is the black megajaws
Answer: Yes
Q:
when will the 7.2:1 be back in stock in right hand?
Answer: I don't know. I'm very happy with 7.2:1 left handed.
Q:
Am I able to go under the line capacity of the reel? I have the blue pelagic reel and bought 10lb braided line. Is that too light for this reel?
Answer: 10# braid is extremely thin. It's roughly equivalent to the diameter of 3# mono and will have a tendency to dig into itself on the spool.
Answer: Should be fine.
Answer: You can use it
Q:
Where is the blue mega jaws ?
Answer: All colors are available.
Q:
Is there a power handle that will work with this reel?
Answer: you can buy a gomexus power handle. they come with handle and knob for 25$. they are for a 8x5 mm shaft. in guessing this reel has a 7x4 shaft but no worries. you can buy an insert that makes up for the gap. they come in packs of 3
Q:
Who can I speak to about a faulty reel?
Answer: Go to KastKing Website and lookup support
Q:
when will these reels be available again?
Q:
Can you spool the predator red reel with 8lb braided line without problems?
Answer: There is no reason you can't spool her with 8# braid. If you properly adjust the magnetic spool control and the spool tension knob there is no reason you can't cast 8# braid. I'm casting 10 with mine. The size/weight of your lure also plays in the setup.
Answer: Yes. I would use mono as backing then tie your braid to it. Helps with slippage and your not using so much braid which is more expensive.
Q:
what is the warranty ?
Answer: 1 believe 1 yr, if you look at the bottom of the specs page or info page it is listed
Q:
What is the difference between the mega jaws and royal legend elite series. I know one of the reels has the 9.1 ratio now.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Not much difference this MegaJaws is just newer and it doesn't have the configural breaks on the inside and it has tournament ready magnetic breaking system. I don't have the elite yet although I am gonna be getting the white Royale Legend Elite reel here after Christmas. I will say though I do have the original Royale Legend and it has been very good to me as well as all the other reels I have purchased from Kastking and will be sticking with them for a good while!! Personally it's really up to which ever one you want they are both great reels. Look at the Spartacus as well
Q:
Does the spool tension knob or drag star produce clicking sounds? Out of curiousity
Answer: The spool tension knob does not have detents in it and does not make clicking sounds. The knob is used to set overrun of the spool at the end of the cast. Release the spool and sent the tension know so that whatever bait you are casting will just barely pull line of the reel. The drag knob DOES have detents and makes a subtle clicking sound when increasing or decreasing the drag tension. Good luck.
Answer: Yes I believe they both click, however,I returned this reel because the braking system didn't seem to be functioning. The result was way more backlashes than usual, and I've been using baitcasters for 20 yrs. Do yourself a favor and buy a Lew's,I own 3 different models and love all 3.
Answer: Yes, all three (tension knob, star drag and magnetic brake) make a clicking sound.
Answer: Neither click.
Answer: Yes, and the magnetic brake as well.
Answer: No have not had that problem
Answer: Yes for both
Answer: Yes
Q:
Can the gear ratio be adjusted if need be?
Answer: No, they are set gear ratios.
Q:
Can this hold up for inshore speckled trout fishing ?
Answer: I don't fish for trout but I can say that it handles 5-6 lb. largemouth bass just fine. Tight lines <(((><
Answer: I have no idea. I’m a bass fisherman and bought the 9:1 for my first of rod. So far it has been great with no issues.
Answer: The reel is saltwater rated and should be a good choice for the job.
Answer: I have caught up to 9lb fluke with this reel. I'm sure it will
Answer: Yes absolutely.
Q:
I own both the speed demon & the mega jaws bought both mainly to bass fish with, but was wondering if either one wld hold up to 40lb musky?
Answer: Do you really want to try and reel in a 40# muskie with a reel that has a 9.1:1 gear ratio? You need torque (power) and not speed to reel in one of those big bad boys. Lower gear ratio means more torque. Unless of course you don't mind the idea of blowing out all the tendons in your wrist.
Answer: I used it for pike fishing for a day , it’s made for bass . I did buy the KastKing kapstan 300 handle my 10 oz lure with no problem.
Answer: Hi mark,
Answer: Does a good job with large Muskie.
Answer: Possibly, but not really designed for that kind of heavy duty
Q:
Good for pike?
Answer: I use it for bass, casts and retrieves smooth. I've caught lot of Pike with it fishing for bass.
Answer: I haven't had the chance to use the reel yet, but catching pike is why I bought it.
Product reviews of KastKing MegaJaws Baitcasting Reel, Industry First Color-Coded Gear Ratios from 5.4:1 to 9.1:1, Fishing Reel with 11+1 High Performance BB, Magnetic Braking System, 17.6 Lb Carbon Fiber Disc Drag
Tristin Clark : It’s a very affordable product that takes some work to get use too
This is one of the nicest reels that I have bought, the only issue I have with the 2 that I have bought is adjusting the brake to were it needs to be. It is the only reel that I have ever had issues with bird nesting and am not sure why.
barney : Not durable
This baitcaster over looks fantastic. Retrieving is super smooth. A little on the heavier side.Easy to use. But the durablitly is really poor. I've had this reel under 6months and I drop this reel from just under 3ft and the frame cracked. I have a kastking speed demon baitcast reel that seems to be more durable and better built than this model overall I wouldn't purchase this model again
G Griffin : Super smooth
Awesome value. I primarily fish saltwater but since I picked this up I'm taking every opportunity I can get to catch anything, haven't taken it saltwater fishing yet but I've caught a few bass on it. Super smooth. I'm pretty new to baitcasters. Big fan of Okuma for my spinning reals. But after catching a couple bass with this I ordered another kastking baitcaster, royale elite or something along those lines, also awesome. Now I'm considering picking up the kastking sharky to replace one of my spinning reels. The value is just fantastic. I'm sold
MWaldron : Another Great Kastking product ????????
Really like this reel. Only improvement I would make is that the cork reel handles are a bit rough and stiff compared to other reels but they aren’t bad. The shark look to it is pretty neat and I like to color coding so you can keep track of your gear ratios. Use this one for bottom dragging baits/ flipping and pitching and it works great. Another great kastking product ????????
Brian H. : Nice reel, firm handles.
This is a great reel. I went on amazon looking for a quality reel for a fairly low price. This reel is very smooth and feels great in my hands. I have landed many bass with it the largest being a 4lb-er, and didn’t have any performance issues. My one complaint is that the cork handles aren’t that squishy or comfortable. They are hard and the edges are firm. Now that’s just a preference thing but i would have liked to know that before hand.
James : Your new favorite reel
Received the Mega Jaws 6.5:1 reel a few days ago. Seems to be made out of high quality material and everything works great. Super smooth and lightweight. Feels expensive. excited to use this. Only thing I will say is mine wasn’t packaged very nicely which is kinda scary. But overall I would Recommend.
Spencer Aguilar : Pretty smooth so far
I was hesitant purchasing another reel from Kastking because of a past experience that they fixed. So far the mega jaws casts very smoothly and feel great in my palm. It's very light and I can use it all day without fatigue at the end of the day. So far I'd say it's worth the money!
Mike : This thing cost more than it’s worth
I don’t understand how the people with five stars are giving it five stars obviously they don’t own a good reel And there are used to Cheap Reels. If that’s the case anything better than a piece of junk this would be better. I had to return it try to cast it out 40 times and they claim it cast out far maybe with a really heavy lure .But with a lighter lure it does not cast far at all!! and if you try to adjust the break and make it less you’re just going to Bird nest everywhere I’ve been fishing for 40 years this thing is a pile of junk it does look good though but that’s it but I said I returned it after trying it twice I gave it a chance and it sucks. This company should be called slow ass CrappyCast company because this thing cast as good as a Walmart reel.Obviously they’re delusional and they’re hoping they can make money off junk
chris mittendorf : Overall just a great reel!
So far so good! Bought this because of the excellent reviews, and I can see why this reel is rated so high. Feels great, looks great, and works like a charm. As a newcomer to baitcasters, this reel has been very easy to use and understand, and when the occasional bird's nest pops up, it has been easy to fix. Would definitely recommend KastKing rods and reels to anyone looking for a new fishing setup!
Retiredgymnast : So far so good!
This reel was the right price and great value. I'm excited to add this reel to my arsenal of fishing tools. It looks good and is well made!
Gary & Sandee : Kastking rods, reels, fishing line and accessories are amazing!!
I’m soo thankful to have found Kastking last year. Please don’t let their prices fool you, the saying “you pay for what you get” is not the case with Kastking. After using the Metal Spartacus Maximus reel for inshore saltwater fishing for a couple weeks I was blown away. I began and still add a new product to my collection every month...Gold Sharky 3 5000 reel, mega jaws reel, 8’2” Krome Salmon/Steelhead rod, braided fishing line, pliers and expandable 24” fish net to name a few.
MPW : No no no
Looks great. But this reel is garbage. I highly do not recommend. You can’t throw it fully without a backlash. Looking on how to send back. Really disappointing. I had hoped it would at least last for a little while
Efrain : Grate budget reel
Grate reel as smooth as my shimoano reel ...only con the cap fell off came super lose out the box didnt notice till my second cast ...other than that still worked and felt grate .
Peter : Kastking does it again
Loyal Kastking customer now for years and Megajaws Baitcaster continues the theme of excellent hardware for an excellent price. Very happy with the finish and smooth operation. Drag is plenty powerful for all the nearshore saltwater species I target in the NE. Overall very satisfied as usual with kastking
Amazon Customer : My $65 bass pro reel feels WAY better.
This thing sounds and feels like junk. I’m not going to risk taking it out or spooling it up and having the warranty voided, so I’m sending it straight back. I might be able to smooth it out with some grease, but the gears mesh very poorly and will definitely wear out quickly, probably right after the warranty expires.
Retiredgymnast : So far so good!
This reel was the right price and great value. I'm excited to add this reel to my arsenal of fishing tools. It looks good and is well made!
Sinbad : Lets Go!
What can I say about the Megajaws 9.1:1 gear ratio while on a break * Surf fishing worthy * Easy to manage a cast if the cast is smooth and consistent * Casting a rig with a 2 to 3oz sinker making the reel really “sing” on the way out beyond the surf * Gearing is strong even with thick patches of sea weed on the line * Retrieve is consistently smooth * Takes the place of my other bait casters as my primary reel for surf fishing * Adjustments from rig to lures is instant, duh! * Looking forward to catching Stripers after all the sea weed rehearsals I’ve put this reel through Fish on! Gotta go!!!
Cory : High Hopes, Hit Rock Bottom
I had high hopes for this reel. However it has been nothing but a disappointment! It's not very smooth, it's a backlash machine, no matter how many times I've tried to dial it in, it just is terrible. I thought it looked great, it's lightweight...that's about it for the positives. I've spooled it up with 30lb power pro at first, didn't work out well. Then I spooled it up with 20lb seaguar fluorocarbon, it did slightly better with backlashes, but laid line terribly and unevenly, as well as I can tell it interferes with my cast. I am very unhappy with this product, an utter weight of money.
Capt. Butch Rickey : This reel is as smooth as butter!!
I've been fishing for 71 years, a professional saltwater guide for 30 of those years, and have owned countless baitcast and spinning reels, most all of which were Shimano, with few exceptions. I didn't think there would ever be another reel that could feel as good in my hands as those from Shimano, but boy, did I get a surprise. This reel is not only beautifully designed and built, but it practically works itself. It is without a doubt the smoothest, freest reel I've ever had in my big paws. It casts even small baits amazingly well, and has a smoooooth drag. It is now my favorite baitcast reel!
LeoSnow900 : Junk
Being relatively new to baitcasting, I thought I’d bite the bullet and just go for a seemingly good reel for the price without going for a good known name brand. I tried it out once on the lake, had about 6 backlashes (expected as it was my first baitcaster) and immediately regretted it. The bearings felt junky and overall it felt cheap in the hand. I returned it and bought a Shimano Curado DC. Worth the $249 price tag. Just buy a DC series reel from Shimano and save the hassle.
EDIT: I LOVE MY DC SHIMANO. Since owning a Curado I’ve bought a JDM Shimano Excense SS DC for inshore fishing and love them both. Buy Shimano, you won’t regret it.
barney : Not durable
This baitcaster over looks fantastic. Retrieving is super smooth. A little on the heavier side.Easy to use. But the durablitly is really poor. I've had this reel under 6months and I drop this reel from just under 3ft and the frame cracked. I have a kastking speed demon baitcast reel that seems to be more durable and better built than this model overall I wouldn't purchase this model again
Ryan : Cheap quality to the max! Just my opinion!
To me these reels are complete garbage! You are way better off getting an equal value Abu Garcia. I have been fishing with baitcasting reels for a long time and am very acquainted with them. This is my second Kastking reel and I absolutely will never buy another! TO ME, VERY CHEAPLY MADE GARBAGE! Any reel of store brand reel of equal value is a way better buy. Just my opinion. The rods are great though! Absolutely no complaints there!

Keith Austen : I would buy again!!
I thought this reel was very nice. Took me a little time to dial it in but once I got it right, this reel was quiet, very smooth and you could cast it a mile. Really liked the second breaking system. It clicked 3 times in between each number to get it exact. My reel was a 7.2:1 and pulled one 4 pounder out of some cover with ease. I would recommend.
J. Hancock : Kastking Rocks!
As usual Kastking did not disappoint. Another awesome reel. A few months back, I decided to buy what was being sold as a $100 reel from another company. I waited until they were on sale and got 2 for 1. That alone should have been a red flag. Even though I only paid $50 a piece for the reels, I still feel ripped off. Obviously the people who were raving about the quality of these reels on social media and the company website have never tried Kastking. I'll put my kastking, Spartacus, royale legend elite, megajaws, valiant eagle, summer and centron up against those guys reels any day. Even their higher priced ones. Rods are awesome too! I'm waiting right now for my royale legend 7'3 heavy rod to arrive. I challenge anyone to find a better quality product for the money.
Robert C. : Incredible value
Super smooth and casts a mile! Just what I was looking for to throw my crank baits. I was using a shimano but it was getting old and losing its cast ability and this actually performed better than when the shimano was new!
LG : Better options out there
I’ve used this reel twice since I bought it, it’s cheaply made junk. Mine feels like a plastic toy, it clicks when you reel it in, it birdsnest at times it shouldn’t. It feels very loose and poorly constructed. And the gears strip and I guess loose connection with the other gear?
Multiple times the handled turned and the reel didn’t reel. Save your money buy something else.
SR2 : Easy to readjust when changing weights and baits. Makes fishing more enjoyable.
I purchased the 7.2:1 gear ratio version because I was planning to do a lot of casting and retrieving from a bank instead of a boat. It helped a lot on my first time out. The reel has a smooth action that doesn't tire you out during a long day of fishing. After a short learning curve the ability to readjust the the spool tension for the different size lures and baits that were being used was very helpful. I recommend this reel to anyone planning to do a lot of fishing. The price is right too.

Michelle Madison : Something doesn't add up
Not sure what it is about this specific reel but I cannot get a consistent cast out of it. I have 2 other baitcasters (piscifun) that have no issues and are awesome but this reel has given me problems from the start. Original purchase for frogging with a kastking perigee ii rod. Spooled 60lb braid on and every other cast was a backlash. Okay fine, maybe it's me. Spent some time with the other reels, now confident on a baitcaster and switched back to this. Backlash after backlash. OK maybe it's the line. Respooled with 15lb powerpro V2 braid. Better but not by much. Spooled up heavy on the left side and still backlashes often. After a year of messing with this reel, learning baitcasters and trying to make it work, I gave up. Just not the reel for me.
M. Borja : Rated for Both fresh and saltwater!
Let me start off by saying I’m no professional fisherman. I fish maybe once every other week. I wanted a good casting reel to match my Lew’s Casting reel. I searched and read reviews and found that this Kastking at this price point met all my expectations. More importantly this reel is rated for both fresh and salt water for under $70. Will this reel last me a lifetime, who knows. But the money I save now I can buy more cool lures. Hope this helps.
Jacy : New KastKing MegaJaws just arrived!
Just received my new KastKing MegaJaws Baitcasting Reel. Exciting! Looks & feels solid build. Will be pairing w a new bass rod for FW here in CA, PLUS may swap out one of my open bait casters on my 7’ MH Ugly Stick or my 7’ ML Calstar. Will report further down the road.
Matthew P. : BEST bang for the buck.
I LOVE this bait caster. Granted this is my second bait caster but compared to my bass pro tourney special...the megajaws absolutely destroys it. I can cast this thing a mile away and barely have to thumb brake it. It can do everything! Caught a 3 pound bass on it with no problems. I am convinced that KastKing is a quality chinese brand and will sticking with this brand!

Ryan : First Impression
Received the reel today. Pretty light weight and feels pretty solid! Got it spooled up and ready to take fishing for the first time. This is my first experience with this brand, but I've read and heard good things from others in the fishing community.
Mitchell : Quality
KastKing products are always good quality for affordable prices. This reel has all of the features you would expect on a more expensive reel. These features also contribute to fewer backlashes. If I had to be critical, I would have to mention the loud click sound that it makes when you press the spool release. This is probably due to the quality materials used in the construction of the reel. I will definitely consider KastKing before I purchase new gear.
Over The Bars : worth every penny
Great company that make a very good product . I have a few of there products and they are solid. Big money for something doesn't make it good unless you have to have the 3 top names . Good luck
Amazon Customer : Great reel at a great price
This is a top notch reel. I have been very impressed with all of the KASTKING product lines, from the reels, rods, sun protection apparel, pliers, etc. I paired this reel with the Kastking 7'6" estuary inshore rod with some of their braided line, and it is my go to combo on the Texas coast. Check out all of the Kastking products, you won't be disappointed.
Alex H. Banach : Almost 5 Star, but doesn't live up to label claims
I have two main problems with this reel, otherwise I love it. 1) Casting, 2) Max Drag
First the good: It feels great in the hands. Everything is smooth, smooth, smooth. It feels super light but SOLID. The features are well designed and well machined. Everything clicks beautifully, and feels like a marvel of modern technology, (which for the price is deeply satisfying). I don't have any worry about something breaking, or falling apart while I am fighting a fish. It feels like a great "thing," and it is. It's a really cool new thing.
Now see, I bought this reel to replace a 20+ year old reel, also a small baitcaster. My old baitcaster casted like a champ. It had no magnetic brakes, and bushings instead of bearings. Sounds crude! But the thing is, it casted a country mile without effort at all--give it a little thumb at the end as your bait hits the water. That's it. And it was a workhorse for small and medium fish. I measured the drag to be around 9lb, and that was enough to pull in most fish. I had to replace it because a knob fell off and I can't find a replacement. Sad.
So the KastKing MegaJaws claims to be totally awesome by the data found online, including here on Amazon. First off, the gear ratio is, in fact, very quick retrieve. That part is true, and is pretty cool. You can pull lures fast. Nice. That's something I couldn't do with the old baitcaster this replaced. Old one was slow on the retrieve (not as good for artificials). The KastKing MegaJaws has faster retrieve, which makes it more versatile for artificials, and overall more versatile for the inshore saltwater fisherman.
Where the comparison goes downhill for me, however, is with 1) casting, and 2) max drag claims.
1). Casting: this reel doesn't cast all that great for something made by a company called "KastKing." I am normally casting old conventional reels, including big brass reels like the 4/0 Senator, and Long Beach, and distance casting with Squidders and vintage Abu Garcias. I am good at casting baitcasters in general. I enjoy casting. I modify vintage reels with magnetic brakes for fun because I love surf casting. But the KastKing MegaJaws only casts nice consistently with magnetic brakes set at 8.5, which is almost the max amount of mag brake. And with that brake force, the only way to throw a bait (or lure) more than 40 feet is to have it weigh AT LEAST 2 oz, or better in the 4 oz range. Otherwise you can throw as hard as you can and have it go nowhere. This is because it is so light, and the spool is so small, and it will backlash/birds nest on you easily. If you are going to throw a lure under 1 oz, don't plan on casting it far. It works nice if you are flipping under docks or mangroves nearby, but forget surf casting a lure. Waste of time. You need more mass in order to get a bait out there far on this reel, and it will never be a champion of casting. But this is a design limitation of small, compact baitcasters in general (yet my 20+ year old baitcaster didn't have this problem). I just wish it had more magnetic braking power and a design that was even easier to cast and dial settings in on.
2). Max Drag claims: Upon cursory inspection, the drag feels pretty strong, and by visual inspection, the drag washers are, in fact, nice big carbontex drag washers. Cool. So I go fish a few times. Caught a 40" snook, and took a few minutes to work it in. It made some powerful runs. This little lightweight reel made it quite fun. It worked out, I landed it. Then I caught a 40 lb cownose stingray, and could not stop it at all. It kept running, running, running, and even after 15 minutes it showed no signs of slowing down. I just could not get it in. I thought that was strange because with my old baitcaster I could land big stingrays without much fuss. And not only that, this reel is so small my hands were cramped up after the stingray (also never a problem with my old baitcaster on the same rod). So after I got home I measured the drag. Clicking the star drag all the way down to a point that is uncomfortable (I would never crank it down so tight while fighting a fish), the most drag I could squeeze out of this reel was 8 lb, and I thought I was going to break the star drag getting it that tight. The drag is not very strong at all, but actually a bit WEAK. When KastKing gives a rating of "up to 17.64 lb of drag" they are beyond exaggerating, they are lying. Reporting that kind of precision is awfully misleading, and in the real world it doesn't come close to the claims... I love KastKing products. I have many. But it's pretty hard to ignore this particular detail because the max drag was a deciding factor to me. Having a high max drag is important to me, and this product let me down in that regard.
I can do things with this reel that I could not do with my old baitcaster, and overall, this is a great reel. But in the areas of distance casting and stopping power (max drag), it feels slightly lacking. It should have lots of stopping power, but not quite...
Colin : Disappointing quality control (Updated 12/12/18
I am a big fan of Kastking products and really appreciate their value inthe fishing tackle market.
I own 3 kastking rods and 6 Kastking baitcaster reels. I have been really happy with the quality of all the previous baitcaster reels, however the Megajaws was a major disappointment. The reel failed to cast properly and would not engage to retrieve when turning the handle. I had no choice but to return it. Please improve your QC process.
Update: Changed from 2 stars to 4 stars
Kastking reached out to me and offered to stand behind their product by sending me a replacement Megajaws at no cost. They did wanted me to be happy and felt that I may have got a faulty unit that somehow slipped through the cracks.
The new unit arrived and I tested it out. The new unit functioned perfectly.
As I have mentioned I have several Kastking reels they have all worked well for me and are priced at a very reasonable rate for the reel that you get. I would recommend them... especially for those starting out or fishing on a budget. They represent much better value than Abu Garcia etc.
Matt Smith : MegaJaws = Awesomeness
I bought the red 9.1:1 model for my Dad this Christmas and he was blown away by the quality and performance of this reel and even some of the KastKing products that I own. This reel takes up a lot of line quickly and is a great option for flipping and pitching. We're not professional anglers by any means but we are pretty seasoned fishermen. KastKing has absolutely surprised me with every reel that I have bought and I am a firm believer in their products. I've turned family members and other friends of mine into believers as well and they all were stunned by how much bang for the buck you get when it comes to KastKing. I own other more expensive reels from all the popular companies but they don't get nearly as much love as my KastKing reels get. Keep up the great products KastKing and keep it fun and affordable for us all.
Nathan Jones : Nice Reel for the Price
The retrieve is good and I really like the wide handle spacing w/ the cork grips. It's not the lightest reel I own by any means but wasn't bad enough to cause any fatigue on an 8 hr outing. I really like the drag system and that it clicks; I haven't bought a new baitcaster in a while but the others I use both have a smooth drag that seems to get loosened just by me tapping it during normal usage. It happens to different degrees on different reels but on the bad one, I have to tighten it multiple times every outing. Not sure if this one is just a bit more stiff or if it's the clicking mechanism but the drag stayed where it was supposed to all day. The reel looks really nice too which doesn't hurt.
I'm sold
Insane Blaine : Killer Bang For the Buck!
I have several kastking products, and all have been great so far! My latest addition to my ever growing collection is the Megajaws (left hand, blue). First impression was very positive. It is boxed and presented nicer than reels costing 3 times as much. The next thing I noticed was the clicking spool tension knob, another rare feature in this class. When I spooled it up, it laid the line perfectly even. Taking it out to the yard, casting was effortlessly smooth. Looking forward to catching some nice tucunare (butterfly peacock bass) in the near future with this reel and my speed demon pro rod! Mahalo (thanks) Kastking!
Chris Shelby : Megajaws is worth the asking price and then some
I fished with this reel in the black and red all day. and not a single negative thing to say about either one of them. I have caught quite a few bass with these. They cast smooth as silk and not a single backlash to date. Even casting into the wind hasn't been an issue. The black 7.2:1 is rigged up on a worm rod and I really like the combo. The red 9.1:1 is rigged on a jerkbait rod. Talk about easy to walk a spook. I am impressed and will be purchasing again.
Khro K. : Item arrived already open and missing parts.
Item arrived clearly already open and was missing pieces. It did not have a spool. Looks like it may have been an item previously returned?
Very frustrated because I wanted to spool this up and use it for my vacation week. Contacted Amazon immediately and asked for a replacement. It could be two weeks before it arrives due to the Pandemic.
Very dissatisfied, I will update my review once I can test the reel out itself.
you can compare the product price from Costco, wayfair, bestbuy, lowes, target, homedepot, Walmart, ebay, amazon to find the best price for you
