Would the 4000 be well suited for a surf setup? Or should I go bigger?
Answer: Depends what kind of surf set up. For East Coast surf fishing where you’re using a 12’+ rod, lots of weight and bait, you probably want a bigger reel to match your setup. Even the next size up — tHe 4500 — has significantly more line capacity and drag. I think the 4000 is perfect for surf fishing on the West Coast. I use a BG4000 with about 250 yds of 40 lb PowerPro Max Cuatro on a ML 8’6” rod. Great for casting plastics, small spoons and Rapalas/Lucky Craft hard baits in the surf.
Answer: I surf fish on the central Oregon coast where the surf is very heavy, requiring heavy pyramid sinkers to anchor to the bottom. I use the 4500 with a 11' Penn Prevail rod. My rod can throw a sinker up to a 6 oz in weight, so with 65 lb. braid on the reel, I don't need a shock leader. I just tie a snap-swivel rated for 60 lb. directly to the braid, and then attached a 20-60 mono leader depending on the weight of sinker I need to throw (2-6 oz). The hook drop leaders are tied to the main mono leader using 15 lb mono. Works great for Redtail Perch!
Answer: Depends on what you are fishing for. I caught a 27" redfish with ease on the 3500. A 4000 should be plenty unless you are getting into mid size shark territory
Answer: The 5000 and the 6500 have larger gearing than the 4000 so if need more cranking power buy them but if most of your fish are small to medium salt fish the 4000 will work
Answer: Have used mine for surf fishing with braid and it worked very well...
Answer: I would go bigger. Surf fishing needs more line.
Answer: I use Bg6500 on 11ft star rod! Love it ! Perfect for sharks (caught up to 10 ft so far) Bull Reds 48inches. And everythingin between! Awesome reel! !
Q:
I would like a BG 5000, why are they not showing as available?
Answer: I think 47'4/ 22lbs is a 5000....pls someone correct me if im wrong....
Answer: most likely it is because it is not available.
Answer: type in the gear ratio
Q:
which reel best fot lite tackle?
Answer: 1500 or 4500 would be good ! And you can also just get a heavy or light light depending on what you are fishing for
Answer: I had a cheap real from Cabellas for years now and it’s a beautiful white finish I believe it’s called Salt Striker good stuff
Answer: It honestly depends on what your after.
Q:
would a fiblink 120 lb 5'6" salt water rod work well with the BG8000 for off shore trolling and such
Answer: 5’6” seems short for the BG8000. Even the BG6500 would be way too big. You want a proper balance in weight and specs. I use a BG5000 on my 7’ big water MH. I think you’d want to look at between the BG4000-BG5000 for that specific rod setup. Ask yourself, do you TRULY think you’ll let out 300 yards of line that the higher BG spools hold?
Answer: I'd personally not use a spinning reel on a trolling rig.
Q:
How big a fish can the 2000 handle? I’m looking to travel light but don’t want to compromise too much power.
Answer: It will handle small fish typically. But if your fishing shallow with minimal obstructions you can get some decent fish. 20 lbs range. It's a light tackle reel. The 3000-3500 is perfect for an all around reel. I normally say 4000 but the Diawa runs a little larger.
Answer: I have the 5000, thinking the 2000 is rated for up to 10-15lb. fish, all based on the drag system and amount and test of line you can hold.
Answer: I landed several blues and channel cats one day crappie fishing( hint gold metal flake jigs make good catfish lures also). It was a weird day but fun . Two cats were over 5 pounds , ,the others over 2 pounds. I never felt under reeled, now the 6 pound flouro leader was what I was worried about . The 2500 is the same reel with a larger spool, with more drag pressure available. I really like my 2000, but will be getting a 2500 for bass , but mainly for the bigger spool. Good reels
Answer: I would recommend a little bigger, 3000-4000 size and fill with braided spectra line. That would handle just about anything.
Answer: Your rod has to match the reel in power if you know what the rod will do you then have a guide as to what the reel will do
Q:
how can you order one of these n get a little peen 3000 insted not even close feel cheated
Answer: i also fish with a penn 8500ss and 9500ss the old ones made in the usa and feel confident with BG8000 will get the job with ease but the penn reels are 23 years and still working proper most newer reels probably are not built to last a lifetime unless you buy top of the line pricey ones
Q:
What size real should i get because i have a okuma celilo ce-c-516ha 5’6” length h action 50-100lb rod
Answer: id use a 6500, which is what I use on my 9' and 12' Meat Hunter Heavy action. Tremendous line capacity and I have been very pleased.
Q:
“I have a fiblink triumph boat rod 80 -120lb with kastking 120lbs braid can i use the 8000 go for fish 100 plus lbs”
Answer: Catch 100-150 pound yellowfin tuna all day long same reel using 80 pound braid.
Answer: I have the same set up. Should work fine.
Q:
Which of these is better for catfish and salmon? And what's the capacity for 20lbs braid on those ? Thank you
Answer: You can put 300yds of 20lbs braid.
Q:
What rod would go best for a daiwa bg8000 for plugging with poppers for GT?
Answer: The bg8k is a 30ounce reel so guys pair it with TFO 11’ 3-8oz rating that is light and strong enough to turn 40lb fish
Q:
How does this compare to the penn battle 2? Specifically the 8000 size?
Answer: The BG6500 is the same size with same line capacity as the battle 2 8000. The BG is overall a MUCH better reel in every aspect. More drag and much smoother drag, better construction and materials, smoother running, lighter in weight, lays line better, casts further, and beefier gear and internals. Even though they are the same price, the Battle 2 should be a $50 reel, while the BG is up there in quality and features with a $200 reel.
Answer: The Diawa is better it hold much more line
Q:
Does it have a bait runner?
Answer: No the drag does click but no bait runner. There are plenty of YouTube videos featuring this reel and should answer most of your questions. This is an awesome reel for the money.
Answer: No
Answer: No it does not.
Answer: No it does not
Answer: no.
Q:
i want to buy this item, why don't you ship to my address in south africa, pretoria???????
Answer: Buy through the Daiwa website
Q:
Will the 8000 model fit well with the eagle claw diamond graphite 8' heavy action rod?
Answer: I would do 5000 or 6000. What pound line are you going to use 80lb braid? Then maybe 8000 size. Remember the 8000 is heavier and will wear you down after a lot of casting
Q:
What's a good rod for bass on the 2500?
Answer: I build rods so I would reccomend something in the 6-12lb or 10-20lb weight class. There are so many great brands with different actions( how the rod bends) that it would be hard to say specifically. Find something in that weight class that is comfortable for you
Answer: I love 13 fishing's omen black M. 7' for bass
Answer: The 2500 Daiwa comes in a combo which will be more than enough for bass fishing
Answer: I like Ugly Stik Elite Spinning Rod 7 foot for this combo rated from medium light to medium heavy, I think the medium is the way to go, pretty flexible assisting in casting weightless lures further, and those rods are almost indestructible. Also, they are pretty affordable.
Answer: I like the ugly stick. 6'6" medium heavy.
Q:
Can i pair a bg 4000 with a medium rod, 10-17# test rating, 7'1"? or is the reel way too big for balancing?
Answer: should be fine that is a smaller reel
Q:
What’s the Braid Capacity of 50lb?
Answer: It depends on the size of the reel you want
Q:
Is this original?
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes this is 100% original! Best reel for the money. Stay away from eBay (sometimes cheaper) since I've read those are fake.
Q:
Is this for right handed
Answer: Right or left handed. All you do is unscrew the handle and un screw the cap on the leftside and switch places. Simple as that. Its a very nice reel for the price and the older BG had a AWESOME reputation for over 30 years. You won't be disappointed.Tight Lines!
Answer: Yes. You should be able so switch it to left or right handed easily
Answer: You can switch it to left and right.
Q:
What is maxdrag for 6500? And bearing also?
Answer: Max drag is 33 lbs for both 6500 and 8000.
Answer: 33 lbs. 6+1 bearings
Answer: Drag is 33 lbs bearings 6+1
Q:
What’s a good sensitive rod to match to the Daiwa 8000 reel?
Answer: Depends what you are fishing for. If you are light game fishing and want a rod you can put an upgrade reel on like a Saltiga 6500, I would suggest a Diawa Demon Blood travel rod.
Answer: I put mine on a 15' ugly stick. This is a large spinning reel and should be matched with a nice surf rod.. This is not a rig for sensitivity..
Answer: Brand of rods is really up the user, I am using a Penn Mariner 2.
Q:
Daiwa bg 8000 or penn fierce 2 8000
Answer: Daiwa is tougher, nicer smoother than the penn battle. Fierce is a step down from those. 8000 penn weighs about the same. Inferior gears, less usable drag.
Answer: I don't have a Penn.
Q:
My reel did not come with the "O-ring" that is supposed to be secured under the cap opposite on the side of the handle. Is @Daiwa able to send me one?
Answer: Hardware store.
Q:
Best rods for BG 8000?
Answer: Would be best to use12 foot heavy for surf with 50 pound braid or 7 foot ugly stick med heavy for boat
Q:
Can i use this for throling
Answer: Spinning reels are not great for trolling because of line twist.
Q:
Would this reel bring in a 8 to 9ft Sturgeon?
Answer: in my opinion yes if the reel has quality line 80 or 100 lb braided and do not try to force the monster in you would have a good chance of landing the beast the Daiwa BG8000 holds plenty of line and built tough for price you cant go wrong
Answer: Depends the weight and strength of the fish..
Answer: The reel can handle it but can you?
Answer: Without a doubt. Very strong reel!
Answer: Absolutely. I’ve reeled in large grouper with this bad boy.
Answer: I’ve seen videos of guys catching big sharks on an 8000 so I’d say yes, I bought mine to catch sharks and have caught really big sting rays with no problem
Answer: If you could get one on the hook, sure.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is BG8000 comes with extra spool?
Answer: No. It doesn’t come with an extra spool.
Answer: No it does not.
Answer: The smaller sized BGs I bought, did not.
Q:
Does the 8000 only utilize braided line?
Answer: They can all use braid or monogram, but they are made for braid, that's why they got the rubber backing on the spool
Answer: No, mono will work just fine on the reel
Q:
what is the weight deference between BG 4000 and 8000 ?
Answer: The BG 8000 is twice the weight of a BG 4000. 30oz vs 14.3oz. The BG8000 retrieves 53.3" per handle turn and the BG4000 pulls in 39.3". You can go to Daiwa's BG website and see a chart of all reels to compare.
Q:
which size would ya'll suggest for putting on a 12' ugly stik for surf fishing, mostly going for sharks with heavy braid line. thanks?
Answer: Depend on your test line. If you’re using 65lbs and up. Use the 5000-8000. I use the 8000 on a 12ft ugly
Answer: At least the 5000, I have 400yrd of 65lb jbraid on a 5000 on a 7ft m/h diawa boat rod and I've caught 3 to 4 foot sharks on it with easy.
Answer: the largest size available
Answer: The 6000 series is a great fit for what you are trying to do
Answer: 5000 or 6000. Great reels
Answer: 4000 or 5000
Q:
which reel best for lite tackle?
Answer: I would not buy this reel again. Bail doesn’t work as it is supposed to. Try penn or other brands that have quality control.
Q:
What is the country of origin of this product?
Answer: China....lol
Q:
I have a daiwa harrier rod 7 ft medium heavy actiofor inshore saltwater fishing. what would be the best fit reel for my rod? fishing saltwater
Answer: As far as I know, BG8000 is a really good reel. Whether it fits your rod, I don't know.
Answer: I personally use the 4500, but I am typically casting jigs and lures. If you are planning on spiking your rod or leaving in a holder you can go higher since the drag systems become stronger meaning you can fight bigger fishes. It really depends on what your target species is and how you are fishing.
Answer: I would go with the BG 4500
Q:
Does anyone know what the line size and capacity for the 8000 is when using 100 lbs braided line ??
Answer: I have the 6500 with 60 pound braided and 300 yards. Still room to spare.
Q:
I have a 12ft surf rod. is the bg 8000 over kill? i want to put 65-80lb of braid.
Answer: Yes over kill. I have a 12' surf rod and have the BG 4500 and that's plenty with 50# braid.
Answer: if your using 65-80 lb test line then I guess almost nothing is overkill if your going after 200Lb plus fish.
Q:
For lake and creek fishing what size reel?
Answer: 8000 is def overkill for that - more like tarpon etc
Answer: 2500
Q:
Does the 8000 do well with fresh and saltwater fishing and does it fit on the shakespeare stik gx2?
Answer: The 8000 is to big for fresh water fishing unless you’re fishing the Great Lakes. Pond, stream, rivers, BG1500 or 2000 is more then enough.
Answer: Yes to both I have this combo as a matter of fact and it first well.
Q:
Can this 8000 model be use only mono fishing lines? this is my plan use only monofilament. thanks
Answer: Yes, you can use mono instead of braid. The 8000 is a big reel and you can load plenty of mono. These big reels are usually used for long cast surf fishing, so keep in mind there is a good bit of stretch in the line when setting the hook with 100 yds out to the fish. I have 6 Daiwa reels and they have all given unmatched performance and durability. I fish salt water in east central FL.
Answer: Yes, monofilament 20/550, 25/440, 30/370 (Lb. Test / Yards)
Q:
What size is best for tuna and yellowtail fishing?
Answer: BG 8000 is a great 30lb. reel for Tuna or Yellowtail.
Answer: For tuna 50 lbs or less - Get the BG 5000. It holds enough 65 lbs braid line and light enough to cast all day. I caught tuna in the range of 25 to 30 lbs with no problem. For tuna from 50 lbs to 100 lbs - get the BG 6500 or 8000.
Answer: BG 8000 is a great 30lb. reel for Tuna or Yellowtail.
Q:
How do you know which one's have the round handle opposed to the T handle???
Answer: I have a 4000 it has a T handle
Answer: I Think By Size of Reel
Answer: I went by the description and pic.
Q:
Is this original?
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes this is 100% original! Best reel for the money. Stay away from eBay (sometimes cheaper) since I've read those are fake.
Q:
Can i use this reel for striper fishing in the north east area? Can i also put 30-40 lb line on it
Answer: U know dat! I use braid on all my reels shimano stradics 6000 & 8000 and penn 8500 and my daiwa's or u can use fluorocarbon. But braid is da best. Da daiwa J-braid is da best and cheap too. Hope dat answers ur question. Chuck from Moloka'i.
Answer: 30lb. Would be fine, I think if you want to put 40lb. On it, I would consider spectra backing for capacity or go up a size to accommodate the heavier line.
Answer: Personally I think the BG8000 is too big for stripers. Suggest going down to the BG5000 maybe even the BG4500.
Answer: I would top out at 25 lb test. You might want to jump up to the BG 5000
Answer: Yes you can as backing but it isn't necessary.
Answer: Yes you can.
Q:
Do you ship this product to Morocco,if so I want to buy a daiwa bg8000 how much the shipping will cost?
Answer: I'm sorry, we do not ship to Morocco.
Q:
Which one is the 6500, not able to select from the drop down menu
Answer: Diawa makes most of there stuff in china, thats what is said on the box...China. Love this reel, super smooth, super smooth drag, cant say enough about it (I bought the 2500 for bass fishing and it has worked out great.
Answer: China and according to Daiwa's quality policies.
Answer: Not sure, but very high quality, would highly recommend
Q:
Could the 5000 handle a 80 lbs fish?
Answer: Yes as long as it is on a good rod, a good jigging rod with lots of back bone would be a great choice for it.
Q:
How big a fish could the 1500 handle?
Answer: I have caught big fish on reels not meant for that size fish. We all get lucky sometimes. The 1500 has max drag of 4 pounds so it is meant for smaller fish.
Answer: I have one of these and use it on a light action spinning rod for panfish (bluegill, crappies, trout, etc). In my opinion it is best suited for smaller game fish less than 5 lbs as it is used on a light action rod. I have 10 lb Suffix 832 braid on my 1500. Great reel!! Hope that helps
Answer: I've caught a stocked trout 7lbs on 2 lb izorline on my BG 1500. Smooth enough drag to fight the big ones. The 1500 also has a single carbon fiber drag where a lot of reels this size use felt drags.
Q:
Is it true that the 6500 and 8000 size reels have the same size body just the 8000 has a bigger spool ?
Answer: yes!
Q:
Can i use a GX2 7feet medium heavy ugly stick with the 8000. Will the reel seat fit on it..
Answer: Im not sure about the reel seat.Thats a really large reel more suited for maybe a 9 0r 10' rod. If you want to stay with the 7' maybe go with Daiwa BG5000 or 6000. BG series is an excellent reel
Got this for bottom fishing and so far, works great.
william : A great spining reel for the money
Just what I wanted for surf fishing, this bad boy hold a lot of line and it is smooth as butter. Can wait to get it in acction, handle feel okay to me as I have big hands, it does not have reverse so you have to be careful with what can get tangle AKA a" finger"
Boddy feels solid and few plastic parts, overall great spining reel
BG 8000
Melissa Schneider : Great reel at a great price
Just got back from a florida fishing trip and these worked great! Loaded the reel with 65lb braid and the drag worked great for how much work it did. We had fish scream the drag with no issues and it was very consistent. For the price it's hard to beat. My only complaint is there isn't a hook to stow your line on the spool. It's also a heavy reel, but for the size it's to be expected.
Salvador Lara Perez : Daiwa Bg
It’s light weight, large spool, very very smooth. paired it with a 6’6 Tiger Elite jigging rod from Ugly stick and you will have a light weight setup for very big game fishing
The Fishing doc : The perfect reel and it’s a legend
I love my bg8000 it’s a monster reel with a very smooth and powerful drag I use mine on boat for all kind of fishing even trolled with it once with tiger elite jigging rod for me that’s my to go combo can handle any fish less than 100 kg
Rhula : Broke after using 4 times
Used it 4 times and something inside broke. Now it doesn't work. Of course the return window has passed by 1 week. I wasted $100. Very upset!!
Salty Tales : Very good reel for a very good price
Very good reel for a very good price. I consider this reel the best bang for the Money as really ght niw. It is not suppose this be amazing as a $1500 reel but it does an excellent job and has a very good quality for the price!
Amazon Customer : Daiwa BG 8000 reel is built for salt water fishing
Have used for surf fishing for over a month now. The reel was well built, quiet and sealed for salt water fishing. Dropped it in the sand salt water twice already, a little bit of WD40 can restore the reel in brand new condition. Well worth the money.
Salvador Lara Perez : Daiwa Bg
It’s light weight, large spool, very very smooth. paired it with a 6’6 Tiger Elite jigging rod from Ugly stick and you will have a light weight setup for very big game fishing
Mao Van : Big and heavy like a tank
Big and heavy like a tank. Built for big fish no doubt. I had a big sturgeon on and the reel handled flawlessly. The drag system did its job. Nice reel!
Tim M. : Great value!
Worth purchasing, owned some older reels by Daiwa like BG90, but unfortunately the anti-reverse spring no longer worked and I really liked how it reels in so smoothly.
Patrick Scaramucci : WOW!
Just got it, haven’t used it yet but let me tell you looks amazing! Little heavy but I got the 8000 series so it’s expected I guess. Shipping was good product in original Daiwa box all paperwork inside, very happy so far
Jin Yu : ... is very smooth and it can pull up crabs easily. I would recommend this Daiwa reel to everyone
This reel is very smooth and it can pull up crabs easily. I would recommend this Daiwa reel to everyone. I’m a happy buyer purchasing this item!!!!!!
Steven : Solid good shark reel
It worked great for me offshore fishing. I do recommend spacing the spool up some as my braid didn’t spool evenly.
Arup Roy : One of the best 8000 reel for saltwater fishing
This product is far superior compare to its nearest compositor (penn fierce iii 8000). Only disadvantage is it know is not as good as Penn fierce iii 8000.
Junior : Money's worth
You can not beat this reel for what it is priced and its durability. I live in Hawaii and been using it every weekend for the last month and no issues at all , just rinse with dawn soap and water.
Dank : Great bargain
Diawa reel at great price

Very well made, beautiful appearance and Daiwa brand backing up product
Amazon Customer : Daiwa BG 8000 reel is built for salt water fishing
Have used for surf fishing for over a month now. The reel was well built, quiet and sealed for salt water fishing. Dropped it in the sand salt water twice already, a little bit of WD40 can restore the reel in brand new condition. Well worth the money.
Robbie M : It’s a Daiwa so a great product
This reel can cost around $140 in stores and scored a great deal here, a 5000 size is $130 at stores so buy it here
Anonymous : The tank
I have multiple sizes if this reel. I have a 8000 for snagging and it simply muscles in (40-60 lb) paddlefish, gar, and asian carp. I have 4 4000 series for (hybrid) striper fishing and it is a game winner. It's a great size to throw on a surf rod and launch 2-3 oz bait +70 yards for dam and surf fishing without tiring out.
Gio : Brand new and the retrieving was so stiff
The retrieve was so stiff and bad even on the first day it arrived. I was actually very disappointed and I couldn’t even fish in peace. Ruined the fishing for me for three fishing trips. So I switched out to the daiwa bg5000 and it was amazing.
edwin hook : This spinning reel works!
I like this spinning reel and I was able to catch Bonito on a full-day charter and it works very well!
FlaGator : FlaGator
Missing standard features... No automatic bail return and anti-reverse switch.
Willie Cook : Heavy
Very powerful, but a bit heavy and not smooth
edwin hook : This spinning reel works!
I like this spinning reel and I was able to catch Bonito on a full-day charter and it works very well!
Amazon Customer : Great reel
Ive had this for a year and it hasn't failed yet. Ive taken this in saltwater and everything. I like it because it holds a good amount of line. Watch running too much mono, you will use a lot of yardage. I ran 250 yards of 80 lb braid and tied an FG not to roughly 50 yards of 80 lb mono mono and everything fit it comfortably on reel.
Ken O : Four Stars
Great line capacity, smooth action, have not caught anything big enough to really test it out yet.
Jamie r Phillips : Smooth like butter...
So smooth... I'm so impressed! Daiwa for life now! Excellent Craftsmanship!!!
Alijah : Very nice!!!
Daiwa BG is a great reel. The the up and down of the spool when reeling it in is smooth.
juan perez : Excellent
Very well made, beautiful appearance and Daiwa brand backing up product

FlaGator : FlaGator
Missing standard features... No automatic bail return and anti-reverse switch.
Tony Blanton : Great deal for under $200
I like the ruggedness of the reel body. I have fought several heavy fish so far without any problems. The reel has great line capacity and smooth drag
BG : Gets the job done!
Great real for the price! Capable of battling sizable fish and is definitely a workhorse. It’s a bit heavy, but all things considered, this is still an awesome real.
Andrew Arnold : Well built
Very well built I have had lots of reels but this one stand out . The line capacity is great and extremely smooth retrieve. I'v had penn reels this size and I still think this one is better
Ashley : No problem with salt water, and holds ALOT of line!
At the beach every weekend in saltwater. Others have failed, this guy here no problems. Main use is surf fishing with bait deployed by kayak. Holds plenty of line!
Jin Yu : ... is very smooth and it can pull up crabs easily. I would recommend this Daiwa reel to everyone

Zakaria a. : Nice!!!!????????????
Really like this reel, the biggest i ever had i put a 80lb braid took 420yard of it to the edge, i put it on an ugly stick bigwater 12', can't wait to try it out!!!
Amazon Customer : Good
Good for pulling Grouper out.

Just got it, haven’t used it yet but let me tell you looks amazing! Little heavy but I got the 8000 series so it’s expected I guess. Shipping was good product in original Daiwa box all paperwork inside, very happy so far
Francisco Santiago : Quality over anything.
It's perfect and a good deal for the price.
Eric M. Rivera : For Surf fishing is great.
Does it’s purpose, quality is great for the price. I can’t complain, great product.
Ken O : Four Stars
Great line capacity, smooth action, have not caught anything big enough to really test it out yet.
unforgiven : Best for the money
The reel was liaded with 65 test power pro and after used it 4 times it works above expectations, have the new penn spinfisher vi and is very similar and the drag is smooth and consistant even at full drag. Awesome reel for the money...
