Avenger Spinning Reel

The key new feature of the 2019 Avenger series is the addition of the CFR technology. The CFR, or Cyclonic Flow Rotor creates a “cyclonic” airflow which significantly increases air flow through the rotor creating a faster drying time if the reel should become wet, minimizing corrosion possibilities throughout the reel.

The Avenger spinning reels feature 7 total ball bearings for the ultimate in smoothness and feature up to 22lbs of drag pressure out of the multi-disc, Japanese oiled felt drag system. The corrosion resistant frame, rotor and handle arm keep the reel lightweight but sturdy, as well as the two toned, machined aluminum spool.

the AV3000 will not allow me to switch from left to right? left side has a hexagon male and female end

Answer: At the end of the handle nut screw will be a plastic spacer. This part needs to come off with the screw and be moved to the other side. If that part is not removed, then the hexagon shaft will not slide in place on the opposite side of the handle. Remove that plastic spacer and move it to the other side of the reel.

Answer: I have never tried it but it should . RWM

Is av4000 good for surf fishing?

Answer: As my experien of av4000 is a good reel in salt water fishing surf,pier,and off shore fishing. Same with my lady edition of av4000.

Answer: The AV-4000 will be a good size for light tackle surf fishing for surf perch , halibut , corbina etc...

Answer: Why not? I gave a 2000 to grandson and he loves it. I’m using a small 1000 for crappie and have caught 3+# other species with while jigging for Crappie. Okuma spinning reels are good and priced right.

Is the 4000k for inshore salt water trout and red drum?

Answer: Yes, it will be fine for that use. I have the 3000 and use it for inshore salt water using 8 lb. test P Line. Works great!

How do you switch handle

Answer: You have to loosen and remove the handle screw cap and the plastic grommet on the opposite side of the handle.

Answer: You will need to unscrew the little knob on the right side-pull the handle and move to t he other side and replace the screw knob.

Answer: There is a thumb screw on the opposite side of the handle that is screwed off and then the handle is pulled out and reinserted on the opposite side and the thumb screw replaced on the other side.

You cannot switch the handle. I tried over and over. The screw cap has a plastic bushing inside that is not removable without some type of tool?

Answer: All spinning reels are interchangeable from left to right. When you unscrew the screw cap, you have to remove the plastic bushing and install it on the opposite side. You can remove the bushing with any thin object like pen or toothpick.

Answer: The manufacturer is correct. You remove the handle screw, pull handle shaft and with a long toothpick or something similar push the plastic bushing out from the handle side towards the cap screw side. The bushing is clear plastic and will reinstall on opposite side when reversing the handle.

Answer: No . It is intended for fresh water only. You will be hard pressed to find a reel in that price range that’s meant for saltwater. A really good saltwater reel is a Shimano stradic ci4+, but it’s about $229.00.

I'm trying to find the 10 lb. braided line capacity for avenger av3000, anyone know???

Answer: A 3000 size spinning reel will hold over 300 yds of 10 lb braid. You are better off using 15-20 lb braid.

Answer: I did find this out, maybe will help you. You can put 210 yards of 6lb. mono which is equivalent to 20 lb. braid. Hope this might help. Have a great fishing day.

Answer: The Avenger does not have a knurled arbor for braid. You will need to use tape or monofilament line for backing to prevent line slippage.

Answer: It has no friction band. The spool is ribbed but you will need to use a piece of electrical tape if you want to spool with braid.

Answer: It's a pretty good size reel. You could easily run 25lb mono on this reel. Yes you can spool 12 or 15 lb test line but this reel is kinda overkill for that weight line. What are you fishing for?

The only problem is I purchased the AV 3000 you can not reverse the handle from left to right.......I am used to reeling with my right hand...Every other spinning reel that I purchased will allow for the switch.. I wished I could post pictures explaining why .. the handle has a hexagon male and female end.. it will only fit in the left side .. whereas the right side is the screw-on cap to hold the handle in place.. That side has a smaller hole and is round... I have not tried to take the reel apart to see if I can reverse it.

I have been a hard core Diawa fan for the last 40 years. I have always been impressed with their mid-range spinning reels, especially the ultra lights. I have noticed it has been difficult to find the same quality, especially with the ultra lights over the last 5-10 years. Diawa further complicates the matter by constantly discontinuing the products I have come to love in the past. I recently started entertaining other brands and I am very happy to say, I think I've found a replacement. This ultra light is incredibly smooth and appears to be very high quality for the price. The drag is equivalent to how I remembered the old style Diawa ultra lights years ago. I feel very confident with spooling it with 2lb test even though I use it to target fish up to 2-3 lbs. Thanks Okuma.. Keep up the good work and you'll have me as a loyal customer for life!

The 7 ball bearing design gives the reel very smooth action. My only complain is after casting, most of the time I can't close/flip the bail by yanking the handle forward. I just have to flip it manually. This is annoying and less productive.

I've got 20lb Sufix 832 braid on this reel and it casts beautifully! The reel itself is very well made and has a very smooth retrieve. I have 5 other Okuma reels and this one is quickly becoming one of my favorites! The reel is mounted on a Berkeley Lighitng Rod 6'6" medium action. It's very nice combo for a budget build! I've caught a number of large bass with it, and it can handle it and then some. Highly recommended!

Just received my Okuma Avenger New Generation Spinning Reel Av-4000, I was pleasantly surprised at the looks, size, light weight and quality for a low priced reel. I paired it with an old 5'-6" Berkley Lighting Rod IM-6 Med-H.
It's a perfect size reel for all around use. I'm only an occasional fisherman and I haven't put this through it's test yet. Small and light weight, it holds 220 yds of 10 lb test (mono), which is what I was looking for.
As long as this reel performs well, I don't think you can go wrong in this price range.
Very happy so far, will report back later more info on how it performed reeling in 10, or 15 lb fish.

The reel is quite large, a little bulky, but is a great reel. Has continuous anti-reverse, well designed, and can handle big fish. Large deep spool can handle up to 20# line which is going to handle large catfish which is what I bought it for. Smooth winding, continuous anti-reverse which is a plus for me.
