Answer: I don’t think this would be a good reel to fish for catfish. It’s not stout enough for a large catfish. I think you would be better off with a conventional bait casting reel. They are built to handle larger fish.

Answer: You can put braid on. I usually back my reels with half cheap mono and half braid. Saves money and prevents slipping. Connect the 2 lines with a uni knot. I have had no issues

Answer: I tied the braid right to the reel. I forget the type of knot that is recommended. But once tied on you're good to go. Or you can do a mono backing like the other gentleman said. But I didn't. The reels don't hold a ton of line so I just used straight braid. I just got a second one and I'm just doing fluorocarbon on that one. With the braid I use a mono on fluoro leader. Depending on the lure.

Answer: Which hand do you use to reel with? Most right handed people cast with their dominate hand and reel with the non dominate hand. If you reel with you right hand then order the right. If you reel with your left hand order the left hand reel. If all this confuses you, order one or the other and if that doesn’t work out for you then return it and order the other. Good luck.

Answer: A right handed reel crank is on the right. The two I ordered I chose right hand from the menu under the item. It placed a right handed reel in my cart. Unless the site is messed up now. Just verify before ordering you have a right handed reel.

I have spent a week with the Svallet reel. Overall I am impressed. It cast very smoothly. Reels in as smoothly. Once I got it adjusted it did not backlash unless I did not "follow the rules" as Roland Martin says. The only thing that bothered me that I have not had happened with my Merced is that one time a backlash happened, my fault, and the line went between the reel and the body and got wrapped around the shaft of the reel. I had a dickens of a time getting it out again. It should not have enough of a gap for this to happen. I have never had it happen on my Merced. But it could have been a freak accident. Time will tell. Well, I hope not. I hope I don't backlash again. But that is not realistic. I really like this real. But I think I like the Merced a tad better. Can't really put my finger on why. Overall I really like it and would buy another. Or a Merced. For the money, you can't beat them. I will likely be buying more Runcl reels. I highly recommend you trying one out. Don't let the price fool you.

It took a me little while to set it up properly (being new to this type of reel), but once it was set up it has been really impressive. The accuracy and distance are great. If you’re looking to try a bait caster or add another to the Arsenal, I don’t think you could go wrong with this one.

When this reel arrived I immediately started messing around with it. The spool spins effortlessly by hand. I think my favorite feature is the captive spool cover. Other reels I have, the spool cover hits the ground when you unlock it. Not this one, it just pops out and swings out of the way.
The magnetic brakes and cast control knob ensure (almost) bird nest free casts. The large drag control is very easy to operate with one finger, a must when you're fighting a monster.
Overall this is a great reel for the money, I highly recommend it.

This fishing reel is hard to use. I have owned another bail casting reel, but this one has some gears issue. It rotate fine when there is no weight on it. I did a testing before taking it out to the ocean. It spins fine.
After I caught a fish, its very hard to rotate. It feels rough.
My catch wasn't even heavy.
I set the resistance a bit lighter than usual which is easier to back leashing, but it still doesn't help the rotation issue.
I don't think it worths the price.

For the price you can’t find a better casting reel on Amazon. It arrived quickly and put it on one of my medium-heavy casting rods and loses it with 12# test line. First day out after getting it dialed in the reel worked great. I was pleasantly surprised on how well the reel worked. I can’t say I caught any fish that day, but the reel aimed just as good as one 2-3x as much. If and when I need a new reel (or my son does) this will be my first choice.

Great reel and feels great in your hand when fishing. Very smooth reel, tried 12lb and 6lb mono and flouro-carbon and was able to cast really smooth. Its a great reel for the money. Highly recommended if you want to try a bait cast reel.

The reel is decent. Quality of frame is nice for the price. Problems were the brakes and handles. The foam on the handle swelled up and wouldn't rotate. The braking system is mediocre, had to have brakes cranked down to get brakes to work. Doesn't compare anywhere near a better name reel.

Heard of this company before but never tried their products. After impulse buying, im glad I did. The reel was super smooth, and I have yet to encounter bird nests with it. Of course that also comes down to your proficiency when it comes to using bait casters, but how smooth a reel is does related to more or less bird nest problems. If the reel doesnt spin smoothly, during casts the spool can go into free spin that you didnt adjust for causing line tangles. This reel doesnt have that problem as far as I can tell. It comes with all the bells and whistles such as drag and line brake. The reel has a nice hefty feel to it, the product page says its some graphite composite and I believe them. It definitely doesn't feel like plastic.

This is my first bait caster and I decided to go with RUNCL because I have been pleased with their spin caster. I loaded it with 150 yards of 20 pound braid and put it on a 6 foot Berkeley rod. It reels in super smooth and all of the adjusting mechanisms function great. It came with a very good instruction manual on how to set up and use the bait caster. I got a birds nest on the second cast but was able to undo it within five minutes. Overall pleased.

I'm no expert with baitcaster reels, but I've able to get some pretty good casts without backlash on this reel.

It's not quite as smooth as my shimano curado dc, but at 1/5th the cost, I'd say it's 95% as smooth.

First I'll say that I've only ever had spincast reels, and wanted to try this out because a lot of my friends use them. Well, it certainly does take a little bit of practice, but after a day on the water, I had no problems at all. I put 100 yd of 20 lb braided line on it, and I think I could have put another 100 yd. I do like the fact that you can control once your lower drops, the line does not keep rolling out. My friends said that that is a good feature to look for, so that's why I got this real. Runs great on this rod, and have had no problems whatsoever. I did almost lose it though on my first trip, so now I have a floaty on my rod.

I thought I’d give the reel a try after reading through all the reviews. For the price, it’s pretty good and would be a great way for someone on a budget to get a functional baitcaster. I fish often and after using it 4 times this week, I don’t think it will hold up in the long run after heavy use. If you have the extra $20, give the Abu Garcia Blackmax a try. It’s a beast for the price.

This baitcaster has a very smooth action and while it takes a bit of tuning at first, it holds up very well!

It's hard to beat for the price point, but be prepared to work with it for a bit to dial it in and avoid backlashing.

My only concern is durability, as I have some Lews baitcasters that have lasted for years. I obviously haven't had this long enough to confirm whether or not it stands the test of time, as that depends on the quality internal components.

Once I got it adjusted it did not backlash unless I did not "follow the rules" as Roland Martin says. The only thing that bothered me that I have not had happened with my Merced is that one time a backlash happened, my fault, and the line went between the reel and the body and got wrapped around the shaft of the reel. I had a dickens of a time getting it out again. It should not have enough of a gap for this to happen. I have never had it happen on my Merced. But it could have been a freak accident. Time will tell. Well, I hope not. I hope I don't backlash again. But that is not realistic. I really like this real. But I think I like the Merced a tad better. Can't really put my finger on why. Overall I really like it and would buy another. Or a Merced. For the money, you can't beat them. I will likely be buying more Runcl reels. I highly recommend you trying one out. Don't let the price fool you.

Liza Marie Soares : It's super small

I haven't used it yet, but it looks great. It's super small so it won't hold much line, but the whole thing feels really solid and smooth. I'm very excited to get it lined and to start using it this summer. For only $45, I won't complain, even if it stinks.

Internal on this reel look very solid. Reel is light, has spool on 12flouro line on, tested with weightless senko and fluke, crankbait and jigs, all cast well with easy asjustment, great item for the money

Have been using this reel for a week and like it more every time. Very smooth, drag is great and easy to adjust the brake system. No back lashes at all.. For the last 12 years I have been using 3 Johnny Morris, 3 Rick Clunn and Pro Qualifier baitcasters . When I saw the price of Svallet I thought I would give it a try !! I like it so much I ordered 2 more !! One thing I did do was cleaned the gears and applied new grease and oil to the reel. Just a habit I have always done...

It has been a month since my last review of the Svallet Reel. After catching many bass with this reel it is still working flawlessly. I have 3 of these reels and not had a problem with any!!
