Answer: I don’t think this would be a good reel to fish for catfish. It’s not stout enough for a large catfish. I think you would be better off with a conventional bait casting reel. They are built to handle larger fish.

Answer: You can put braid on. I usually back my reels with half cheap mono and half braid. Saves money and prevents slipping. Connect the 2 lines with a uni knot. I have had no issues
Answer: I tied the braid right to the reel. I forget the type of knot that is recommended. But once tied on you're good to go. Or you can do a mono backing like the other gentleman said. But I didn't. The reels don't hold a ton of line so I just used straight braid. I just got a second one and I'm just doing fluorocarbon on that one. With the braid I use a mono on fluoro leader. Depending on the lure.

Answer: Which hand do you use to reel with? Most right handed people cast with their dominate hand and reel with the non dominate hand. If you reel with you right hand then order the right. If you reel with your left hand order the left hand reel. If all this confuses you, order one or the other and if that doesn’t work out for you then return it and order the other. Good luck.

This was my first foray into baitcasters and I have been very impressed with the svallet. It took a me little while to set it up properly (being new to this type of reel), but once it was set up it has been really impressive. The accuracy and distance are great. The feature set and build quality of the reel is comparable to reels that cost 2 or 3 times as much. I’m really impressed. If you’re looking to try a bait caster or add another to the Arsenal, I don’t think you could go wrong with this one.

Out of the box, the Runcl baitcasting reel feels solidly constructed. It is a bit on the heavier side as expected of a lower-end reel. It aesthetically pairs up nicely with my 7ft dobyn fury rod. I spooled it up with 12lb fluorocarbon and the casting distance is suffice. Overall, for its price point of less than $50 and solid build construction, I would say it is a good starter baitcasting reel to buy.

When this reel arrived I immediately started messing around with it. The spool spins effortlessly by hand. I think my favorite feature is the captive spool cover. Other reels I have, the spool cover hits the ground when you unlock it. Not this one, it just pops out and swings out of the way.
The magnetic brakes and cast control knob ensure (almost) bird nest free casts. The large drag control is very easy to operate with one finger, a must when you're fighting a monster.
Overall this is a great reel for the money, I highly recommend it.

I have a handful of Runcl spinning reels that always perform so I gave this Runcl Svallet a try figuring I would put it in the cabinet with my other nest makers. I am happy to say I was wrong! The baitcaster had no nesting issues at all and helped me drag in my limit of crappie and 2 bucketheads over 3 pounds each! It did take some trial and error with the drag setting and the position of my thumb but that was all me not this great baitcaster. Highly recommend this reel and honestly all Runcl products. What I have found is they offer the same quality of Abu, Lews, or Penn and less than half the price.

I have been buying so many different baitcasting reels for use in the surf and for hunting bass in the local park pond. The Svalla is a reel that feels great in the hand with a solid, sturdy feel. Unlike some of the other reels I have bought from Amazon lately this one feels like a nice weighted ball or something in your hand when paired with a good rod and provides a nice amount of balance. Spool is nice and smooth but the main feature on this reel is for sure the side plate that pops out and then down. Since it is attached, you don't have to worry about losing the plate and the magnets which would basically just ruin the reel. The cast control works just fine and the drags are nice and tight with clicking star tightener on the handle. Overall the reel does more than just wind in and act like a simple baitcaster and has a very fast retrieve for when I can manage to hook anything. Happy with the purchase

Great reel and feels great in your hand when fishing. Very smooth reel, tried 12lb and 6lb mono and flouro-carbon and was able to cast really smooth. Its a great reel for the money. Highly recommended if you want to try a bait cast reel.

First I'll say that I've only ever had spincast reels, and wanted to try this out because a lot of my friends use them. Well, it certainly does take a little bit of practice, but after a day on the water, I had no problems at all. I put 100 yd of 20 lb braided line on it, and I think I could have put another 100 yd. I do like the fact that you can control once your lower drops, the line does not keep rolling out. My friends said that that is a good feature to look for, so that's why I got this real. Runs great on this rod, and have had no problems whatsoever. I did almost lose it though on my first trip, so now I have a floaty on my rod.
