Answer: So Far...ALL of the SS reels I have purchased are made in Japan. I believe this line is manufactured only in JApan

Answer: No the new Daiwa SS Tournament is made in Thailand, but the quality is always the same as the old one. Only the old Daiwa SS tournament was are made in japan.

Is this a saltwater reel Daiwa ss1300

Answer: You can use it. Just rinse well when done and clean and oil regularly. They are bulletproof with a little maintenance. I have one that’s 20 years old.

Is the Daiwa ss 1300 right or left handed retrieve? Does the ss 1300 reel offer the feature to switch the reel handle to either side?

Answer: Yes you can switch to handle either way. It also has a folding handle which allows you to put it in a boot sleeve without taking the real off

Is this daiwa for saltwater

Answer: Yes. It is saltwater safe. It has been a favorite of saltwater guides in the Florida Keys for years, decades actallly. The entire line is saltwater capable.

Answer: Not specifically. I've taken it out in the gulf and it performs very well. You should always make sure to rinse the reels off after exposure to salt. If you maintain your equipment, you'll be okay. With that said, this is not a "saltwater" reel.

Answer: My two brothers and I are current and past guides here in Florida on the Gulf coast. This is the only reel we have used over the past 30 years and they are the most reliable best balance and toughest reels out there. From the 1300 for Red fish /Trout to big Jacks. Easy drag to maintain. The 1600 for Grouper. We like to fight our fish not just crank them in. It's not the most fancy reel out there but when push comes to shove I'm fishing this one.

Answer: No, mine did not come with an extra spool. I love this reel! I use it for steelhead fishing!

Can i use 30 lb braid on it

Answer: I use 20 lb braid with a little mono backing but i have used 30 and it worked ok. I found 30 to be heaver than i needed.

30 years ago, my father and I both bought this real. Both were in perfect working order and I used them every year I went to Florida to fish. I lost both of them and replaced them with 2 new ones. Found the old ones and now I have 4 outstanding reels. Not a bad problem.

Unverified Purchase but photos show I LOVE the Daiwa 700 and the 1300 Reels ..... The reels shown in the photos have were purchased in the 1985-1990 era and have seen a lot of usage ..... They have never broken down and have been involved in many large fish fights ...... These reels outcast others due to their long spool build and the drag system is smooth as silk and easy to adjust, even when fighting that record trout or smallie you’ve got on the other end of your line ..... Reels are fitted on GLoomis 5 1/2’ to 7’ Rods except the 1300 which is on my 8 1/2’ Fenwick Steelhead Rod ...... I also have a spare in my tackle bag ...... Handle folds for eat storage ..... Best reel for the money, huge value!

Side Note: After each Fishin Trip, I loosen drag to avoid compressing drag washer over period of time, after 35 years of service all my reels operate perfectly and all I’ve ever done is clean them, lightly lubricate and as I said, loosen drag after each fishing trip.

I think this reel is great for what it is. An extremely reliable reel. Great for taking back country. Never worry about it failing when in remote locations. I WISH it had an instant anti reverse. I wont buy another because I think for around 100 bucks you can buy a better reel these days. I would place the value of this reel with its outdated technology at around $59 bucks.

I just really enjoy stuff that works, and this does. Super strong drag for its size, and the casts are exactly like you've heard, even with decent mono-filament line. Packaging was ok, but real was in good shape, so no issues there. Very happy and satisfied.
