Questions about 12 Mechanical Fisher's Yo Yo Fishing Reels (Flat Trigger Model)
Q:
how much line can this handle ?
Answer: They come with about 12' of nylon line on them. They can be reeled out about 10' before the spring is wound up all of the way.
Answer: They are pre-strung with 60 pound nylon test line. Not sure what the length is, though it's fairly short.
Answer: On the reel, only the nylon line that it comes with. You could extend the nylon line with regular fishing line outside of the reel if you want to adjust for water depth.
Q:
Are these what used to be the "White" brand?
Answer: Made by same company they have a defrant type of trigger and the whites spring is not stainless so u have to oil it
Answer: No. The Mechanical Fisher has a stainless steel spring and can come with a wire trigger or flat trigger. The Whites Auto Fisher comes with a tempered steel spring and a different trigger type again. Both types work great. Both types are made by the same company as far as I am aware.
Answer: They look just like the White brand. I think there might be some slight differences, but they are pretty close.
Answer: Do not know. But. Thay work well.
Q:
where do these ship from ?
Answer: We ship them from Montana.
Answer: Reno Nevada
Q:
Anyone else having lines cut by the hole edge on the trigger, that the line feeds through? Happens once fish is on.
Answer: nail reel on middle of board center it over hole
Answer: watch u-tube video about yo-yo may help u. guy in vid is catching very large catfish with them. good luck
Q:
If I order these today, will they "really" be the flat trigger or will I end up with the wire trigger?
Answer: I just ordered three packs. All three say flat trigger on a sticker on the bottom of the box, but all three were wire triggers. I'm going to send them back and hope to get the correct ones.
Answer: Mine came as a flat trigger. They are not strong though, a 5 pound catfish pulled all the line out of one of mine and messed it up.
Answer: I ordered and got the flat trigger version. No response from the vendor though -- I asked too.
Answer: Having ordered several times , the description was accurate and I recieved the flat triggers .
Answer: The ones i got were the flat trigger and they work great they are a solid buy
Answer: I have ordered both, each time got what I asked for
Q:
Is there any benefit to adding a Speed Hook to this rig?
Q:
how much line can i put in this ?
Answer: They come with about 12' of nylon line on them. That would be the max usable length due the the spring being completely wound.
Answer: It already come with string on the reel. I did add an "18 leader though with multiple hooks and a weight on the end.
Product reviews of 12 Mechanical Fisher's Yo Yo Fishing Reels (Flat Trigger Model)
Robert H. : The return process went easily.
The product quality is not what it used to be. After a few hours in the water, 10 of the 12 Yo Yo's were stuck and would not retract. I had to return the entire box. The return process went easily.
William Cobb : Keeps your freezer full of fish all year!
Awesome little units.... I hang several off my dock in the early evenings. I almost always catch one or two catfish by the end of the evening.....enough to keep my freezer stock with fish all the time! Simple to use.....when they start to wear...( mine haven't after 6 months) simply replace them they're so inexpensive.
Allan : New spring limitations
In March of this year I decided to buy yo yos. I read the reviews on the new stainless steel springs. I was impressed that they would never rust. The older style spring version can get some rust on the springs and may require oiling from time to time but last a lifetime. I decided to go with the latest and greatest. The mechanical fisher with the stainless steel spring. I ordered 30 for myself and 30 for my brother. They arrived very quick. First thing I noticed some of the yo yos were pinched and would not recoil. The instructions that came with them gave instructions on how to fix this. I followed the instructions and all was well. I did notice that the tension was very uneven as I pulled it out and felt it recoil. It did not have the smooth play that the older style had. Several weeks later I took them out to use. Some were pinched again and required adjusting again to work properly but still had not been used. I only set out a few and they worked well but again some were pinched and required fixing. This was annoying as I figured out u can't assume all of the new yo yos will work without adjustment at any given time. That day it rained on them and they got wet and they stayed wet for 3 days. Wow. They are not water safe. The stainless steel spring did not rust but the yo yos got a white residue on them. It was a bit gummy and the yo yo really began acting up. This was just odd but I am writing about the new springs. They may never rust but they appear to have unexceptable quality control issues. The yo yos main purpose is its ability to set the hook and smoothly play a fish down and catch it. It needs to be able to do this with different depths and hook sets depending on the type of fish you are targeting. This spring does a poor job at doing that. If you wish to pull out 5 ft of line then it's sets the hook very hard. That's fine for catfish but if u adjust it for that depth for crappie it won't pull the crappie all the way up before it stopps and u loose the fish. If u adjust it to pull it all the way to the top of the water it rips the hook out. This spring gives you less ability to adjust for your fishing needs. It also just pinches and fails some of the time. It is very frustrating. I paid for a quality product but that is not what I got. My brother said the 30 I gave him are acting up and not the quality of the cheaper ones of years past. Also the hole that you put your line thru to hand it is very small and limits what line u can use. I gave it one star for the speed it arrived and the instructions on how to fix it when it pinches and needs adjusting. I gave it another star as I believe the new flat trigger is much more sensitive.

good ship time, good product, and would buy again.
Kage no Goremu : Must have for bugout bags, camping kits, and paddle boats.
These things are great, So many uses from fishing to snares to catch anything from fish, rodents, birds with ease.
Defluo : A must have!
These things are great! There are 2 settings for how sensitive the trigger is and has about 6 feet of usable cord. On the top is a small hole so you can thread the included string through and tie it to whatever you want. They weigh very little and you can easily put one in your pocket.
Initially I was worried these wouldn't have enough strength to pull in a bigger fish, or that the bigger fish might break it. My fears were relieved when one day i found a huge catfish at the end, exhausted from fighting. The best part about these is they don't pull the fish out of the water, they tire the fish out and keep them at the surface so you can come by and just pick them up.
I wish the cord was longer, but they work very well as is. Super cheap too!

Best invention ever .. I use these on my dock . they work .. add you a little bell and you know when you have a fish ! Not my first time ordering them !
mary a. : A good size shiner can set it off
It is very sensitive . Almost to sensitive . Will try and rough up metal trigger a little . A good size shiner can set it off . Be careful when you set it .
Daniel Guffey : SLABS
Lots of crappie. Works great
B : The price is right for 12 of these. I ...
The price is right for 12 of these. I only left a star off because the first one I pulled out didn't wind back up until I pried on the retention axle. I understand these are designed that way and have NO bearing on the effective operation. However, some of these may be used in an emergency and I want that 'warm and fuzzy'. After I catch my first fish with them, I'll come back and add the star
Joe Daigle : I leave them on the wharf and a couple of ...
I leave them on the wharf and a couple of them gave me trouble. The rest ok, caught fish.
Daniel : nice item
nice item..can't wait to try them out
robert b dennis sr. : Used them for years
I bought these to replace the one that I've worn out or lost. They work great! Just put a hook on, put some bait on the hook and wait for the fish. When a fish hits the show is on. I's a real hoot when a catfish grabs your bait!
CP : Fantastic
What a great invention to get fish, when it is legal in our state. Check that out before putting to use in a non-emergency situation.

Аmazon Customer : nice products
read the negative reviews and I don't know what people expect. they work well and They are great for day trips on the lake or river
Rusty : Works as advertised, just too bulky for the average pack
Works as advertised, but these were quickly phased out of both my survival bag and my truck emergency kit due to their size and weight. It might seem trivial but when it comes down to it I'd take a spool of plain line or wire to replace each of these any day. I don't regret purchasing them, as they are a neat novelty and may come in handy as a quick replacement when teaching a kid to make a set line or twitch up snare in an urban setting perhaps.
Brandon Skrzypchak : Easy to store in a backpack
Well made and compact design. Easy to store in a backpack. Will be trying them out next spring.
Dwight Hicks : Preppers
Great to pack in an emergency pack. No pole required. Just set it and forget it. I love this product. The tension was not enough for me when I first got them, but they are easily adjustable. I was just going to buy 1, but this bulk purchase is better than buying singles.

Kindle Customer : Worked Great!
Great product and I caught several nice white perch (crappie), bass and catfish off of them since I received my order a few weeks ago. We will be giving them another go this weekend!
Ignatz451 : ...And another thing..
I left a quick review tonight after opening the package and seeing that it was my yo-yo reels, but after playing with them for a bit I felt I needed to add some things.
First of all, these things are. MUCH sturdier than I had expected. Very, very solid construction, and they are made in the USA . I must admit, I had expected something closer resembling a Cracker Jack toy.
Instead, I opened the box, and found a lovely row of 12 steel yo yo reels.
They appear to be about the circumference of a snuff tin, if you are so inclined, but only about one-half the thickness.
Instructions are included, but thoroughly unnecessary.
I hadn't held one of them in my hand for more than 10 seconds before my mind flooded with a hundred useful possibilities for this thing, not the least of which fishing and small game trapping.
If you ask me, they need to market these things as a general-purpose simple-spring with a million uses.
As far as preppers or survivalists or folks wanting to put together a bug-out bag for themselves and their family, these are easily one of the most singularly useful, inexpensive gadgets I can recommend. The only item in my bag imbued with more usefulness and less B.S. Is my Morakniv #2, and that's just a high-carbon blade on a stick. These reels are truly functional and elegant. Buy a pack of 12 and pop a few into your family's 72-hour bags.
Summing up, these things are just cool. Absolutely no BS about them, just beautifully simple and simply useful little things.
Countrygirl79 : God Bless You
I loved how quick these were delivered. The cute hand written message that came with them was ????! They seem to be very high quality and we are testing them out tomorrow!!! Thank you Southern Snares and Supply!!! God bless you too!!!

Arrived super super fast....now I have a happy family ..need to order more some very soon ...12 just isnt going to cut it with 4 fishing fanatic kids ....excellent quality and very easy to use .
Daniel : These work really well.
I was really worried about the quality of these when I had ordered them, but after I got them, I really changed my mind. They are of good quality and work rather well for catfish up to about 10 lbs as this is the biggest I have caught on them so far. I will be ordering plenty more of these in the real near future.
Allen Lee Runyon Sr. : They work!!
They look like they will do the job well.
Derek Jay : Great and fun to have to make traps and fishing.
I have not used this to fish yet, but you can use this for a trap and snaring. Overall I like this product, and would keep this around for fishing the next time I go.
Charlie VanDyke : Great tool to have. Must have for a BoB.
These things are awesome. Very rugged and durable. Work much better than i expected them to. Just bait them, drop them in the water and wait for the fish to come, it will snag them for you.
