Anyone having any luck in the Richmond area? I haven't been out in a few weeks and I'm curious if things have picked up at all.
Fishing in local ponds in the Short Pump area has been producing for me. Slow rolling spinnerbaits on drop-offs along with shallow cranks across rock beds and brush hogs!
hey hokie what pond you talking about because i didnt know there were any in shortpump.
There is one in the Fox-Hall/Colonies Area. Its called wilde lake. Its been producing very well for me the past week or so particularlly. PM me if you interested in directions or want to head up there.
Google Fox Hall Homeowners Association for a map.
Seen the lake but never fished it.
due to the lack of boat right now i would def. be willing to drive about 20 minutes for a nice pond can anyone link the directions

I pm'd you it the other day. Let me know if you didnt get it.
o ok, so the shortpump lakes and that neighborhood lake are the same lake. also sunday it may thunderstorm so we will need to check the weather sunday before we meet up.
Carrington- Yea the weather seems like it may not cooperate, but we just need to keep tabs on it.
Hookingem- The biggest bass I pulled out was a 10lb slab about 3years ago. Caught it on a white chatterbait with a red trailer
well i may run down to the lake saturday then, ill just have to find it since you said i have to go down dirt roads and such once i get to the address you gave me but ill find it. also is the shore pretty open on this lake like not to many trees and such.
d**n nice ill try and meet up on sunday to fish it sounds pretty good thanks for the directions

The lake is fishable all the way around on the one lake and the other side is a little more covered. The lake itself is about 8-12ft deep mostly with some shallow spots and what-not. Just be careful if you walk around by the houses on the lake. Some people do not care at all while others care a little more-so. But the houses are along only about 1/4 of the lake so every other bit is easily accessible
what time do you guys plan on heading out there cause i wouldnt mind giving that lake another try also
mathews if you want we can go saturday to insure the weather will be fine, and who ever else wants to come can come.
What time you all looking to head out at? I am going to try and get out for a little bit
i may try to get out there around 12-2 and ill stay till dark.
i fished wilde lake today saw a bunch of bass near the bank looking like they were about to spawn alot of small ones and about 10-15 4-6 pounders i tried throwing everything i had at them but every time i would cast near them or past them and reel my bait up to them they would spook and swim off. hopefully when i go tomorrow they will be closer to spawning and wont swim off as much
mathews, did you plan on coming to southside tommarow also?
nope wilde lake again when i wake up which will probally be around 10
only caught one fish today which i will post the picture later the picture doesnt do it much justice because i tried to get it taken fast and i was bending the tail towards my body so you cant see how long it is but the fish was easily 8 pounds and i think between 8 and 10 and the random guy that was fishing near me said the same thing i wish i would of had my ruler because it was over the 22 inches for citation and the guys scale was broke and read 32 lbs and i didnt have my scale it would of easily of made citation for weight as well it was more than twice the size of my 4lbers and my arm got sore from carrying it after fighting it in, caught it on a lipless crawdad colored crank. Wish i would of had a cooler in the explorer cause this one would of made my wall :'( new pb with an unknown weight. im going to try and go there tomorrow to see if i catch one even half the size of the one i caught today. I could fit my fist all the way in its mouth without it even touching the mouth.
that is a really big fish
I wasnt expecting of catching anything bigger than 4lbs other wise i would of gotten a new battery for my scale and brought my ruler, from now on i am always going to make sure i have those items when im fishing, the guy that took the picture for me said he has been fishing wilde lake for years and that was the biggest one he has seen caught out of that place.
what lake was this in? and on what lure cause im still open for a lake this coming weekend.

way to go man!
Ha and to have doubted the story I told you bout my similar fish a couple years ago. Way to go Chris and you interested in heading out this coming weekend?
Went to Powhatan Ponds today. Caught a good size crappie on a stickbait, may have been close to citation. The bass have been getting spooked, though, and I can't seem to do nothing with them.
Putting the boat back in the water this weekend, hoping to hit the shad. Any reports on them?
In about 2hrs of fishing a buddy reported he caught 4 shad. They're coming, just not en masse yet!

Man, didn't you learn from fishing with me? Always have an extra scale and an extra camera. Sucks bro, would have liked to see that one. I'm just about ready to get back in the old everyday routine. You down?
I'm about to fire it back up tomorrow. I have a friend coming into Richmond from NY and we're headed to Briery for a day then down to a private 40 acre lake near Greenville, NC and we'll be the only ones on it for 4 days. It's pure heaven. Last time we went we caught 10 over 4 pounds in 3 days including these two decent ones. Nothing over 6 yet. The one that swallowed a mellon was 5.8 and the other 5.10. This year is my year. Getting ready to hit it hard again with the weather breaking. Bass and boat fever are kicking in!
yea it was just that i never had any luck there catching anything over 1.5 lbs so i wasnt expecting to get one of that size, but from now on i am going to make sure that i have everything i need, my dad was with me earlier and he had a good camera and a scale and he left about 20-30 minutes before i caught it and i hadnt caught anything all day before that so i didnt think to ask for his scale or camera and im ready to start the every day routine again after the rain we get tomorrow goes away
Have we fished there? Doesn't sound familiar. Would like to check it out though. Also want to go to that place we went that night south of town at the end of Powhite I think.
no we havent fished there yet but its deffinately a good spot, and yea i want to try that powhite place again too
fished Wilde Lake today and yesterday for a little bit after work. Saw a couple really nice fish, but couldn't get anything to hit.
VAfishin where were you fishing? I was out there around 6:30 or so and couldnt seem to have any luck. The rain really messed with them
I was fishing over by the steep part of the bank, but I was only there from about 4-6PM.
Where are you guys parking when you go there?
usually at the dock at the end of the gravel road over near the spillway
