I have an opportunity to fish this lake next weekend for the first time ever. Anyone have any tips they would like to share. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'd be interested in hearing about this lake as well. I've driven past it on 60 about a million times but have never checked it out. Anyone know about the boat ramp or facilities there?? I need to take a recon trip on the motorcycle.
Fish the bullrush and the canals go to southpascobasmasters.com and look at 2009 results march and you will see why, thats where the winners fished. My all time favorite lake.... also look at the pics in photo gallery for March
Great lake to fish!! Good luck!!

OK, now I have to take a ride down there!! When we go that direction, we hit Camp Mack or the very shallow but fun to fish, Lake Rosalie.
depending on what ramp you use at Walk-in-Water be carefull the county ramp is VERY shallow for about 10 yards by the dock but after that you will be fine also Rattletraps around hydrilla is killer there if the water temp is high enough like around 65+
oh yeah and if you manage to hook a blue Plano tacklebox overflowing with new tackle gimmie a call haha

I'll do my best to scare them away with my Ratt L Trap technique
man on that lake you could use the Ratt L Trap bluewater 3 1/2 oz and they would eat it. ;D

The next warm day we have, I'm going to take a ride down there on the bike. My parents final resting place is in Lake Wales so I can make my spring grave sweeping and lake recon in one trip My boat is still at the Tracker service center in Orlando > They better get it figured out SOON.
Have fun but I think the water temp still need to come up for it to really get hot. let me know how you do I know its getting real good on the coast with the Ratt L Trap as the water temp keeps rising but this danm cold front just rolled through and the low in the 30's all week aint gunna help.

Ya, it's too cold and too windy to think about fishing this week. Tracker just called and said they couldn't find ANYTHNING wrong with my motor so they need to lake test it...........which they can't do until the wind lets up >
In my opinion the *)@! ethanol gas is probably what's giving my motor fits >
Sta-bil Ethenol treatment; buy it and use it with every tank and it will help. What is wrong with your boat?
QuoteSta-bil Ethenol treatment; buy it and use it with every tank and it will help. What is wrong with your boat?
The motor is almost brand new, probably less than 10 hours. One minute it will run fine, the next, it bogs down and runs like crap. It starts easily and I get no alarms. They said it ran perfectly in the test tank and couldn't find anything wrong during the normal tests and computer diagnosis. Before I brought it to them, I drained the tank, added fresh fuel and changed the fuel filter on the motor. There's no inline filter. Ater that, it still did the same thing. They said the fuel lines are fine, no restrictions. IMHO, it's probably the ethanol messing with the engine management system. They told me there was no additive that they would recommend but I'm willing to give the Stabil stuff a try if they can figure out what's wrong.
They are wrong Sta-Bill ethanol treatment is fairly new and you can get it at NAPA, if that doesnt help try Sea Foam otherwise take it somewhere else and let them look at it
what kind of motor is it?

If they cant figure it out contact Mercury Marine Customer service and complain, I just talked to a guy that fishes with us in southpascobassmasters and he owns c.c. marine and he said that he very rarely runs into any problems with those motors and to call customer service and see what they can do for you, push for a new motor if the problem persists and nothing is found wrong.

The first hurdle seems to be having them experience the problem. I can't believe they ran it in the test tank for very long if it never acted up. If they come off the lake with it and tell me it ran fine, I'll just give up with them and take it to Hoppy's Marine in Haines City, they have a lake right behind the shop. I probably should have taken it their first.
hind sight is 20/20 lol

If engine repair was my bread-and-butter, I wouldn't recommend Sta-Bil either. ;D
I'm now running a 4-stroke outboard motor, so instead of faithfully adding oil,
I now faithfully add "Sta-Bil" as though it were oil (1oz per 2.5 gal)
You never know when your boat may be decommissioned or laid up,
and if there's no stabilizer in the fuel, it's going to gum up eventually.
It's my understanding that stabilizer used to be a regular additive in gasoline,
but has since been excluded. This behooves the boat owner to add it back.

Is bullrush another name for buggy whips?....also what should I be using?

It's the other way around...Buggy whips is slang for "bulrushes" (only one "L")
I lived on the shore of Lake Walk-In-Water for several years. In many central Florida lakes
such as the Stick Marsh and Walk-In-Water, "hydrilla" has been torn out by the root system
by the hurricane-trio of 2004. In Lake Walk-In-Water, when you're fishing in water
over a yard deep, bulrushes aren't the best thing, they're the only thing.

I was out ther in march and hydrilla is present again and we caught many fish on traps out of it. It was torn out but some did survive to grow again.
use anything from speed worms to swim senko, also ugly otter stuff like that with the lightest weight possibleQuoteQuoteFish the bullrush and the canals go to southpascobasmasters.com and look at 2009 results march and you will see why, thats where the winners fished. Still no news on my boat. Between the wind, rain and holidays, they haven't been able to get it out on the water. Next week looks like more cold weather as well. I might just go pick it up and bring it to a local Merc Service dealer that's not so busy.
I would, I would be getting pretty frustrated by now
QuoteI would, I would be getting pretty frustrated by now
Good news today. They ran the boat and tracked it down to a bad coil (or coil pack?). Anyway the manager said that when the new part arrives he says it will run like new. I really hope so as it was one annoying *$#@(!+ problem!!!
I know this sounds off but I was going to say that the coil might be going bad because I had a 115 Johnson that had the same symptoms but I didn't want to give you bad advice before I double checked lol ;D but im glad you got it fixed and let me know how you do on Walk-in-Water
thank you for the information and tips....I'll be heading to the lake on saturday and will definitely let you guys know how I do......
Tight Lines!!!!
Well, I said I would give you guys a report, but unfortunately I have nothing to report. I threw just about everything in my bag and I did not get a single bite all day long. I threw rattle baits and chatter baits and spinnerbaits. I threw frogs, flukes, worms, and "beaver" baits. The only thing I caught was an owl who picked up my frog and got it wrapped around one of his legs. He was freed unharmed by the way. I guess it just was not my day. We fished the canals, the bulrushes, the docks, and padfields....nothing. Not sure if I will ever go back there again. Lots of great looking water and I know there are fish there....we saw a few bedding fish....but talk about discouraging......I don't think I have ever been to any lake and not gotten a single bite. I have been bitten and missed fish and not caught any....but this is the first time I never got a bite.

Well...............that sucks!! I was hoping to hear a better report. A good friend of mine fished all day yesterday at nearby Carter Road park and got skunked as well. We NEVER get skunked there I'm sure they'll turn on once the weather stabilizes.
your right my club tourney which I did not fish on Istapoga only caught 11 fish , not good!! it has been a tough year for fishing in Florida

I got my boat back........FINALLY and it seems like they cured the problem. It ran pefectly. We fished Surveyors Lake this morning in Alturas and got SKUNKED. Not a bite, no fish spotted, nothing breaking the surface, IT WAS DEAD. I don't ever recall not catching anything on Surveyors. We're going to shoot for another outing somewhere on Sunday.
well for your info I went out on Monday and got 8 in about 2hrs......bait of choice, 4 inch zoom trickworm junebug/red wacky rigged on a 3/0 Mustad black painted live bait hook and a 4 inch black/blue tail Senko SLOW IT DOWN and be very patient they were biting while dead sticking it

We started out with trick worms and Senkos but once the wind picked up, we changed our strategy Surveyors is VERY shallow along the banks so we tried our deeper water tactics without any success.

I didn't know Zoom made a 4" trick worm....I knew they made a finesse worm, is this the same thing? junebug red is a very good color.....one that I did not have when I fished Walk-in-water.....could have made a difference.....I won't get "caught" without them again. Where were you fishin Johnny? Tarpon?....I live just down the road from there.

This is one bait where I don't believe color matters. I prefer the more natural looking ones. My son constantly whoops me using white, bright orange or yellow > He says that being able to see them a mile alway allows him to fish them better.

I think color means everything when using finess. Bright oarnge and yellow ;D WOW I will have to give that a shot. I was not on Tarpon but I was on a small private lake. I will be at Tarpon next weekend the 6th(gotta start preparing for the open tourney in May). The Zoom 4" Trickworm is what I call it because the look exactly the same but it is called a finess, I had never used it before and I am impressed .

We use the standard Zoom Trickworms but somehow we ended up with a pack of the 4 inchers as well. I don't think either of us has tried them though. Lots of Trickworm fans use the 3 bright colors. If you look back through the various articles on fishing them, you'll see them in use. I seem to do best with a junebug or pumpkin seed. As I said, my son kills them on the bright colors casting them in the grass, hydrilla pockets and aroud other cover.
If sunday works out weatherwise, we're going to hit Walk in Water. Hopefully things will pick up.
it will probably be slow from the front, but fi you fish cover you will be fine. (hint) Isolated patches of bullrush at the north end of the lake are awsome this time of the yearhttp://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&source=hp&q=lake%20walk%20in%20water&aql=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl look north inbetween 2 canals there will be 2 big patches of bullrush, PS: click on unkle joes fish camp to go to the lake image
