Broward County fisherman? 2024

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

Last weekend was brutal fishing in lox with the high water, dingy water and  them pumping all that water where are you guys going this weekend?

fishing user avatarsoflabasser reply :

Sorry to hear the fishing was brutal on a boat in Loxahatchee. The fishing has been on fire for bullseye snakehead, peacock bass, and other exotics, so you can always give those fish a try. Do not be surprised if you catch a big bass when fishing for exotics, these fish coexist well together.

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

When I was fishing in a jon boat in the local canals in West Broward I was catching alot of snakeheads and mudfish  on my expensive spinner baits so I switched to the Walmart $1 spinnerbaits and those  those exotics put up a good fight but tear up lures.

fishing user avatarTurf reply :

Didn't get out this weekend unfortunately. Hoping to hear some reports of better conditions/fishing than last weekend however.

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

Went to the alley it was rough only thing biting was the mosquitos.....

Spinnerbaits are one of my favorite snakehead lures and I agree they beat them spinnerbaits pretty bad.The bass fishing is good in the areas snakeheads live, caught a +5.5 and +4 pound bass as bycatch while fishing for snakeheads these past 2 weekends. Caught other bass between 1 to 3 pounds as well.

fishing user avatarSFL BassHunter reply :

With the higher waters lots of the areas we fish on boats around here are well not that great.

I've been doing a lot of bank fishing. That has also been a bit tough.

What do you do with the snakeheads you catch?  I have heard they are good to eat but have not been brave enough to try one yet.  Are we still supposed to kill these fish when we land them?

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

I've tried them they aren't bad to eat as far as killing them to control population that's impossible I think the avg snakehead lays over 150,000 eggs  in a two year period grant it a majority of them wont make it but that's still alot, they are a blast to catch they just tear up your lures so use cheap lures and hold on for the ride?

I spoke with a FWC biologist a while ago and he told me its 100% legal to release bullseye snakehead in the exact area they are caught. I have heard they taste as good as saltwater fish, but I don't want to eat them since I prefer eating what I catch from the ocean.

I agree that at this point it is extremely unlikely that man can eliminate snakeheads from South Florida. These fish reproduce extremely well in our climate, but a couple extreme cold fronts might significantly lower their numbers. Largemouth bass and peacock bass are known to eat baby snakeheads, so these fish will have a hard time spreading as much as a peacock bass. These fish are a blast to catch and the big ones(+8 pounds) fight like a snook going to the mangroves. Fishing for them is more like hunting since you have to quietly walk on the bank since they bolt off and don't bite if you make too much sounds while walking. I don't mind having a couple lures destroyed by snakeheads since its worth the money to me, and I am sure the tackle stores are quite happy with all the tackle I have to buy in order to catch these fish.

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

Next great Florida lure is gonna be a baby snakehead hmmmm

How do you feel about eating fish caught is "residential" water?  I've been in south florida for two years and so far have only eaten ocean caught fish.  I have concerns about residential and golf course runoff contaminating the urban water around here.

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

I wouldn't eat much freshwater fish down here I just tried a bite or two stick with ocean fish

fishing user avatarsoflabasser reply :

Weather looks good for the weekend. Might do some more snakehead fishing and then start targeting other species for a while.

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

I'm actually thinking of going to lox this weekend

fishing user avatarBCline reply :

Bank fishing around Deerfield Beach has been brutal during lunch time this week.  I typically catch 2 - 3 bass everyday but this week I  have only managed to land one little guy.  I hope you are able to find more productive waters than I have.

Good Luck

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

Think it's gonna be tough all over, sun sentiel fishing report is saying C14 but I  don't know if that's a warning it's gonna be a rough weekend catching fish lol!!!

fishing user avatarsoflabasser reply :

Caught some nice bass, snakeheads, peacocks, and other fish this weekend. Thinking of diving this weekend coming up instead of regular fishing.

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

I'm going saltwater fishing in punta Gorda this up coming weekend ?

fishing user avatarsoflabasser reply :

What species will you be targeting? There's some good tarpon, snook , and redfish fishing in that area of the state. I plan on scouting for lobster since the lobster season is approaching soon. Might harvest some reef fish in the process of scouting my lobster spots.

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

Snook mainly

fishing user avatarTurf reply :

Hoping to get out this weekend to either Lox or the Alley somewhere but we will see.  Haven't heard much promising in terms of Snook so far though. Might be a bit early still. Let us know how it goes.  Good luck.

fishing user avatarWurming67 reply :

I came across some reports from punta Gorda that snook were off the beach it don't matter to me same as when I go bass fishing if something bites cool if not I am not working lol

fishing user avatarSFL BassHunter reply :

I'll be heading out to the alley this weekend, I will fish the morning as well as trying something new, night fishing out there.

fishing user avatarHazard reply :

I live in West Broward. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a boat so most of my fishing is done off the docks or renting a boat from Everglades Holiday.

Anyone mind sharing with me through PM a good spot they know of for snakehead?

Sounds like you are going to have a good time fishing this weekend. Try snook fishing in our canal systems when you get a chance after your Punta Gorda fishing trip. There's plenty of big snook in the canals and these snook can be caught throughout the year.

fishing user avatarTerzy reply :

Pretty much every canal in broward has snakeheads

fishing user avatarscroll24_7 reply :

Sup guys. I do allot of bank fishing in North West Broward. Mostly catching LMB and Snakeheads. If anyone ever wants to link up Pm me here.

Where is that located at and thank you very much for info

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

If you pick up a chart of the harbor at any tackle shop it will be called Mangrove Point.

If you launch out of Ponce De Leon Park turn SE and it will be about 500 yds up.

Try to time your trip around high tide and just drift up and down turning into all the little cuts as you go.

if you're gonna use shrimp or white bait don't use any weight and cast up close to the mangroves, they will immediately head for them, so just let them go..

If you go into the pass be VERY carefull, the current if extremely strong..

Good Luck

Been fishing mostly for peacock bass lately and I just had one of the best fishing trips today. Caught a bunch of peacocks today, with the biggest 2 being a +5 pounder and a giant +6.5 pounder. Also caught lots of nice quality sized largemouth as bycatch while fishing for peacock bass. Man do I love fishing in South Florida!
