Rodman 2024

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

I want to start fishing Rodman im 1 hour from it, and i dont get t oconsistantly fish 1 area. So ive decided to start fishing there and get my fish on.

Can anyone give me any pointers of where to launch where to fish etc?

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

there are 2 good  places to launch, the Rodman camp grounds and kenwood landing. as far as fishing, it can be very fun or it can be hard. 2 weeks ago we had a tourny me and my partner caught 6 fish all day and they were small. thurs. we went and caught between 40 and 50. all between 12 and 21 inches. most fish will come one of  3 ways, fishing deep in either the old river channel or the bardge canal, flipping, or fishing the grass lines in 3- 5 feet of water. use natural looking worms. You must be VERY careful you cant see 90% of the logs only run in the marked lanes until you learn it. start either around the ramps or deep creek. there are big fish being caught right now. I have heard of several 20 pound limits in the last month and there was the 11 and half caught during wolfons yesterday. if you got any questions let me know.

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

NAtural color worms.  What else seems to work out there bait wise? Are you carolina rigging worms in the deep water? Fishing cranks or what? Any info you can give will be great!

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

I personally dont fish the deep water alot exept when they are schooling but the answer is yes, carolina rigs, cranks, texas rigs, dropshots, and traps all work good. also silver and gold rapalas and shad or chart. color hard baits. as for plastics watermelon seed, watermelon red, junebug and junebug blue tail are the best colors along with redbug and sour grape. Uvibes can be good texas rigged in the stump field. if u got any other questions let me know. 8-)

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

Ive been once. I launched somewhere that spit me out in the middle of the stump field it took me quite a bit of time to make my way to the channel. there was alot of vegitation and what not i had to motor through.  I paid a few bucks to launch there. There may have been a camping area on site. What was that area i launched at?   I would prefer to start out closer to the canal or channel.

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

that is the camp grounds, u can launcgh at kenwood, which goes right out into the channel the only problem is it has no security ect. al tough those grass lines near the campgrounds can hold good fish  and u must have been there at low water. now you see any thing.

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

thats the thing i heard from the lady at the campgrounds. That kenwood didnt have security and there have been reports of smash and grabs. So i thought twice about heading that way. It being my first time in there i was real easy about boating through the stumps. And i didnt have a second person with me to kind of spot for me. I have a long 21 day stint at work but as soon as i get back im heading out there! I cant wait

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

there are a lot of cars that get broke into esp on weekdays. Im going to put this simply dont run throught the stumps! you cant see most of them and they will mess up your day. :(

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

next time i go i will have my fishing partner to lookout for me. I was trying to troll through last time but my trolling motor kept getting clogged with hydrilla.

fishing user avatargatrboy53 reply :

ive fished outta kenwood for 30+ yrs. and never have had a problem.anytime!much easier ramp to get to where your goin unless you live on that side and dont want the drive.fishin has been good to great and w/ the schoolers crankin up should be good right on for awhile.

fishing user avatarSpeed Worm reply :

I've been fishing Rodman quite a lot lately and I've fell in love with the fishery. I have never been skunked at Rodman. However, it is pretty tough to catch good size fish (probably 95% of the fish I catch are under 2 lbs) but there are some large fish. About a month ago, at a tournament weigh in I saw a guy pull out a 10lb-4oz female from the live well.

Drifting through the stump fields south of the channel is very productive for me most of the time. You want to be able to cover a lot of water when drifting, so throw shallow crankbaits. The depth goes from 3 ft to 7 ft (and the 20ft creek channels). Bandits 100, RC1.5 and Bomber Square A shallow cranks all will catch plenty of bass. Swimjigs and jerkbaits can also be very productive.

Because the majority of the stumps are vertical, pay close attention to stumps that look different. For example, horizontal stumps and forks.

Unless a big storm comes through, water will be very clear. Natural colors and fluorocarbon line is a must. I have recently changed from 10lb powerpro to 12 lb trilene fluoro for cranking applications ... and I can tell from experience that visibility makes a difference. Also, make long casts.

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

What speed worm said is exactly right, you will catch alot of little fish but there are some good ones. Sat. there was and 11 pounder caught, and I have seen several 10's. on sat. during Wolfsons I fished rodman(along with about 300) other boats, the problem was I was not in the tourny. If I was I came in top 10 our biggest 7 went just about 18.  :'( but it is a lake that you just have to fish alot and findem.

this one came outta rodmans 3 weeks ago pre-fishin for a tx. this is my partner jonathan.its his biggest fish so far. 10/5.we caught 23.15 in the save rodmans tx. for 8th place.fishin continues to be good.my patner jeff prefished mon. and had 20+ ,but this was before the rain.not sure how all the water will position them .im sure they'll have the gates open w/ lots of current.

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

Well im excited come sunday i will be heading to  Rodman with 2 other firends. At the recommendation of a person on here we hired PReston Clark to guide our trip Sunday im very eager !! I'll let you guys know how it went.

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

bassbanger I got some bad news, While Preston will likely put u on some fish. there is a fish kill going on due to all the rain, it is bringing tanic acid down the oklawaha  and it has started near orange springs, I hear the water all over the lake is very darks and the fishing is terrible. :-[

fishing user avatargatrboy53 reply :

while there is a major fish kill goin on sat. my buddy jeff davis won the just friends tx. in the stump field w/ 16+. they caught around 70 keeper bass.they were concentrated but bitin. if preston cant get bit in rodmans he knows plenty of spots in the river.but if your tryin to learn rodmans this isnt the time.

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

Well, YEah that would defeat my purpose of trying to learn the area if its going to be screwy. Any alternate places near there?

-Randy

fishing user avatarSpeed Worm reply :

I went there last week and got skunked by bass for the first time ever. Caught 4 mudfish, yuck. The water is incredibly dark (for Rodman) and there is a tremendous amount of vegetation everywhere (because of the water being so dark).

On that day I saw more than 10 floating fish including bluegill, pickerel and sunfish.

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

looks like we are going to be heading over to Gatr's home lake! And my hometown.  Sampson lake.  We left it up to Preston after talking about the Tanic acid ordeal, and he picked Sampson. I guess he just fished it yesterday and he said he killed them like 70 fish. 2 -4 lbs and some   bigger that the father n son he took didnt set the hook in well enough and they got off. So im looking forward to it i was hopeing for Rodman but stuff happens! And any day fishing is better than a good days  work!   Although he said he was ripping them up on cranks  i guess fire tiger color.  They said they had not much luck with rubber worms.

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

sampson is a good choise, you can kill em, with the high water you will likely be able to catchem and there is a chance at a 10# fish in that lake and there is a very good chance at 6# + fish it is great right now.

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

Im excited! ive never been to sampson even though im from Starke

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

Well i had a blast on our trip to Sampson it was a tough day compared to the prior days there. We ended up with about 25 fish quite a bit 3.5 pound range with the biggest caught ringing 4 and a quarter. I had one monster hit that broke my 14 lb fleurocarbon leader in half and lost my repala suspending dive bait i think it was an x rap but it was my favorite!!!! We caught 2 gars one being ggigantic!!! and 1 pickeral also.

I was amazed at the fish in there they were beautiful and healthly looking. The water was a little merkier than normal with all the rain.

I came out of the trip with confidence in crank baits, and fishing away from the shore. Im ready to go back!! Preston is a hell of a guy and has lots of stories.

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

so yall ended up going to rodman? I was there sat. and it took 18 some thing to win and many people had 12+ I on the other hand did not get on to fish at my normal spots, and only had one around 5 and broke another off about the same size, they caught em early on top water around the grass and later on c-rigs and jigs near the dam.

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

naw, thats sampson, that is real good, cause there was a tourny sat. that my buddy won with 16# and he was the only won with over 10 #, but it sure is fun catching those fish on crank baits.

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

YEah its Sampson i guess the subject keeps making my brain want to type rodman!  Anyhow its a nice place i cant wait to go back.

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

Yeah it was the first time ive caught fish on any kind of crank bait.  We were using firetiger mostly but i caught some on a purple silver aruku shad  and some on a black and silver x rap. Carolina rigged june bug curly tail worm, i started the morning with 2 on my rage tail toads  i love those!  I was running them through some pepper grass matts.

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

yall just fish the deeper offshore grass line?

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

yeah mostly... where we got most of the fish. Early on we hit some peppergrass matts little closer in. In about 5 ft of water.

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

the grass patches near the creek to the boat ramp? or across the lake near the cypress trees out from shore? I like both but I would be curious at which are hotter now, i might head over this week.

fishing user avatarbassbanger reply :

closer to the boat ramp.

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

yeah, that stuff can hold some big fish, the top 3 bags in our club tourny a couple months ago came from right around there.
