Same deal as the last trip!
Quantico Marine base this coming saturday morning 6am 9/20
Info copied from Old thread
Directions:
The location that sells the fishing permits is off of Route 95 (exit 148). You head west once you get to the end of the ramp and follow up until you see the military checkpoint. There will be a road on the left hand side just before this checkpoint and there will be a white building on the left (a hunting weigh-in station), this is the building where you buy the permits. The drive to this building from the highway is only about 5 minutes. The drive from this building to Chopawamsic Bay will take us about 15 minutes. They open at 8am.

Possible Lures/Tackle:
As for baits, I have been catching the snakeheads on worms, toads, shad and spinnerbaits in the shallow water. The toads and shad I use are the Strie King Rage Tail baits. This area has a lot of grass mats and lilly pads that can be interesting to navigate through. On the plus side Jason, my friend and I have also caught large numbers of nice bass here as well. The Cavitron works well here at high tide in the shallow water, it also works well in the channel and further into the bay at low tide.
If you're interested chime in!
LETS DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!! I might have a spare seat on my yak if someone is landlocked and needs a lift. I'll ask my regs and let you guys now if I have an open seat.
I will try and make this Saturday, it all depends on JCrzy4Bass and his wife. The due date for the baby is tomorrow but we are still waiting for her to go into labor. If she has the baby before then I may be able to make it, if she does not then I will not be out there.
Sounds good Ron, give J a good pat on the back from me!
Ron, be sure to let us know that all is well with mother and baby.
Then it is time to celebrate at the new BPS in Hanover! ;D ;D ;D
You all need to do this on a Sunday so I can get in on it.
anybody still have an open seat? It looks like I'll be in town Friday/Saturday...
Dan, if you don't mind my yak, I think i have an open spot right now.
Heya Dan, do you have a permit to fish the base?
Here is the tide information for Saturday. Low tide near the pads will be tough navigating through. Last Saturday the low tide was higher than normal due to all the rain last week. I am still on the fence for Saturday, I will let you guys know what I decide Friday night.
Sa 20 Low 5:21 AM

Andrew, I need to check with some things but I'll send you a PM by tonight with a final answer. What all do I need to bring?
Simon, no I do not. Would it be possible to meet you guys down there a little after 8am so I can get a permit? Would it be too much of a hassle for Andrew to come back and pick me up or something? I don't want to impose or make anyone expend any extra effort, so don't by shy to tell me no.
I REFUSE! >
to not come back and get you! That was the game plan, we were going to work some stuff and then come back and get you, or atleast me.
As for things to bring. There's two rod holders in the front and I have a few more in the rear. I think I'm going to just bring 1 rod/reel but you're welcome to bring more. I remember you having a tackle bag. for that you might have to just take out each of the tackleboxes so we can either store them in the crate or in the hatch of the kayak. I have pliers and braid cutters so unless you want to bring your own you're more than welcome to use mine. Maybe a change of pants or a towell for the ride home cuz your butt might get wet. A ziplock bag for your phone and other stuff. Other than that I need you to bring some strong legs!!!
Let me know.
Sweet, I just have to check with the other person I'm coming home with. I'm not sure when he'll need to go back to school but most likely it won't be until Saturday afternoon or evening.
Andrew, I think I'll bring two rods just in case, and I'll fill up my wading vest with my tackle to I won't take up any room. I also have a waterproof bag that I can bring. Thanks so much, Andrew, I really hope this works out.
Andrew....contact me (phone or email) me please!
Ernie
Mr. Rojas, are you planning on going? I have some more fly fishing questions if you don't mind ;D
Guys I am in and I have an extra seat in the canoe.

DD,
I can't join you guys this time although I would like to. I will be fishing w/ Capt. Tony Harding in the Middle Neck. Almost got Andrew to come along. I hope you get a few! Email me on the flyfishing...I'll try to help the best I can.
Yay, more the merrier! we'll definitely come back and get you Dan, not a problem. A few places we can work are close to the launch so it'll be good, the only problem I for see now is parking!
Thanks a lot for the seat, Andrew. I had a great time even though the fishing wasn't awesome. That area is definitely not the type of fishing I'm used to, but it was fun. Simon or Andrew (or both), could you send me a copy of the pictures of my fish? I'll PM you both with my email. Thanks guys
Get any snakeheads guys?
Nope, ended up with a few largemouth with Dan having the biggest at about 4lbs. I did hook into something in the AM with my rage tail that snapped my fluoro leader but we'll never know what it was. We were in the water around 7ish and out around 1:45. Pretty slow day for us. I spent a good part of the day confused as to what to throw. I was totally out of my element with all the large lotus/lily pads everywhere.
Lures that worked for us were stik, trick, and curly tail worms
Colors that worked were black/blue and green/white
Maybe we should have fish Lunga :-/ It was a beautiful day though! It was also a pleasure to fish with Dan again.
If you had something that snapped you line you may have had a snakehead on.
Please correct a possible misconception of mine, but I thought that if you fished from a boat a Quantico permit was not required.
If you fish the waters that are located on base you need a permit, that includes Quantico and Chopawamsic Bays/Creeks from what they told me when I bought my permit. This permit is only $10 a year so it is not a big deal to purcahse it in my opinion.
We need to hit some snakeheads!
i wonder how winter snakehead fishing will be? :-?
Quotei wonder how winter snakehead fishing will be? :-?
cold... 8-)

;D
A couple more of these would have been nice. Maybe we should try back when the lotus plants die off a bit.
Nice hawg Dan.
QuoteNice hawg Dan.
Yea, it was a nice one, nice big swirl and seemed to fight pretty hard from where I was watching. We need more of those =D
Yeah, it was cool how it swirled when I pulled the bait over the lily pad she was under. I liked that one that tried to hit my bait and then I couldn't cast back to it and Simon just dropped his bait down and WHAM-O! That was funny!
