Well that is a hell of a way to start the day. Enjoy and tight lines.
YOU SU## HA HA HA !!!
I have to work and you show me pictures like that, I hope you had a great day on the water it looks amazing man !!!
Thanx for sharing !!!
very nice!!!!!!!
Yeah... it was a beautiful morning. (and I got to fish as well)
nice pictures, hopefully ill be looking at a very similar view next week. im supposed to head down there next week for 4-5 days at SML if everything goes as planned. hopefully the fish are more cooperative this time around. last time was like one huge misadventure, though i still had fun...
Zoff, Red Earth, How do you guy's handle the boat traffic there, do you just go out for a few hours in the am then go back in the evening or do you mostly fish at night this time of year?
I go early in the morning and just deal with the traffic when it starts.Gets a little rough with waves but the fish don't seem to mind. Going during the weekdays seems to be best.On 6/26/2012 at 9:39 PM, Nitrofreak said:Zoff, Red Earth, How do you guy's handle the boat traffic there, do you just go out for a few hours in the am then go back in the evening or do you mostly fish at night this time of year?
mornings and evenings is ideal to me. the boat traffic doesnt stop people from fishing or catching fish, just makes it a little more difficult at times to keep your boat in position. to beat the heat, mornings and evenings/nights are better too obviously. of course there are days in the middle of july where boat traffic doesnt mean much to the fish, last year the day before i arrived(go figure) an old man/friend told us that stripers broke all day long for hours over by the dam, the next day they were gone and probably full lol...
oh, and weekdays are definately lighter on traffic too with all the weekenders gone...
Zoff, Red Earth,
Thanx for the replies, another question I have is where to launch from, I hear horror stories about different launching places down there.
It seems most are private and very few are public, any suggestions on the best place to launch from?
Penhook Ramp is where I launch 99% of the time because there is a Game Warden station there and people seem to act more courteous and less theft from vehicles.. I sometimes go to Anthony Ford or pay the 7 bucks at the State Park Ramp. Penhook is a really nice double ramp and lots of parking. Anthony... no so much. Single ramp... sorry parking... and you need to be careful not to drag your boat on the bottom. On 6/27/2012 at 11:58 PM, Nitrofreak said:Zoff, Red Earth,

The state park is also a really nice ramp with lots of parking but you do have to pay. Biggest drawback I see... seems to be the State Park draws those with more money than sense. I watched a guy 2 weeks ago drive up with the biggest boat on a trailer I ever saw being hauled to a regular boat ramp. Looked like the SS Minnow. Big cabin cruiser IIRC it had 4 axles... maybe 3 but it was big. Guy had this big gooseneck trailer on a Ford dually trying to back this thing in. You could hear the lower units dragging. His wife was screaming at him... he took up both ramps. He gets it in the water and yanks the trailer out from under and all you hear is the crunch of fiberglass hitting the concrete. The ramp is no place to find out you have no clue what you are doing. Don't know the extent of the damage as he parks the truck.... gets on the boat and motors away. Brand new boat... brand new owner... same old idiot.
LMAO !!!
I love seeing those moments, I hate it for the owner that he damaged new equiptment but still that had to be funny as...well you get the picture.
Thanx for the info it's much appreciated !!!
I have some more vacation time left, I am thinking of coming down during a weekday or two and try to have some fun.
Nitrofreak... see you're from H-burg. I went to College at Bridgewater. Spent many weekends in the Burg during my younger and reckless years.
Beautiful view man catching some hogs will make the day complete

It was complete.
i dont know about where to launch from really, there are quite a few places around the lake though. my uncles boat stays in the dock on the lift since he put it in the lake, never puts it back on the trailer that is. the only thing i ever launched was a wave runner. that was at a ramp off smith mtn parkway up past the state park. theres a driveway with a little Pub in a trailer with a piano on the front porch there and the ramp is down there. of course it may have changed since they opened up a big boat dock there. i used to fish in that cove, my uncles house was there, it was real peaceful and quite, right off the main lake too, nice view of the mountains and water. then they tore down this old wooden boat slips and built this great big one out into the lake blocking the entire view, so they sold that house and bought a new one on the lake. its the cove where all the sail boats are near the lighthouse on the main lake. used to be schools of like 3-5 big bass together at a time cruising around regularly in there too back then...

Yep, in Lacey Springs actually, just outside of Hburg, you looked familure in your avitar, we may have crossed paths at one time or another, althogh I must say you remind me of Arnold Swartzenagar( I don't think thats the correct spelling, but I tried it anyway ) in your Avitar too LOL.
I do drink a lot of Budweiser from time to time so forgive me if I don't remember you from somewhere HA !!

Sounds like my kinda place, it's a shame it had to change, well as long as your uncle is happy I guess that's all that matters.
Thanx for the info and sharing a story with us !!!
You wouldn't happen to be in the LE profession? On 6/29/2012 at 12:53 AM, Nitrofreak said:Yep, in Lacey Springs actually, just outside of Hburg, you looked familure in your avitar, we may have crossed paths at one time or another, althogh I must say you remind me of Arnold Swartzenagar( I don't think thats the correct spelling, but I tried it anyway ) in your Avitar too LOL.

yeah it sucks they built the docks there. some people in the cove wanted to sue but it was too late and not much couldve been done anyways. i remember during the contruction of the docks, me and my bro-in-law and another friend paddled an old boat out there and fished off of it for cats one night. drank a case of beer in 2-3 hours lol and paddled back in later that night. the boat was a piece of crap and we had to bail the water out with a bucket before we even paddled it out with one wooden paddle LOL. fun times. my uncles house now is much nicer, but the view isnt as nice, boat traffic is heavy in the cove and its not a no wake zone. oh and the hill down to the lake is pretty steep, killer coming back up with poles, tackle bag, bucket, cooler with ice and beer, radio, net lol...

Im in a lot of professions, Beer drinking, Fishing, Technician, Teaching, Beer drinking, oh, and did I mention im in the Beer drinking profession too?
I have no clue what the LE profession is LOL, so I guess that means our paths have not crossed at least not yet, but I defenitly would not mind coming down and fishing SML with you at some point in time.

You know when you take a cooler of ice and beer somewhere, it's supposed to come back empty right?
Not sure you know that, just pointing that out for future reference HA HA !!
Sounds like a great cardio place that gives you a good workout, something this old body ain't a custom too anymore LOL, that place would probibly give me a heart attack lol, what the crap I would still love it anyway.
Funny story about the old boat, I enjoyed it, thanx !!!

Would be great to have you come down. Let me know when you will make it to SML and we will go.
Well... beer drinking is not my profession but it is a serious hobby. lol
I look forward to that Zoff, I most likely will make it a fall trip when the fun boaters have slowed down a little and we can enjoy a little more time on the water.
Have fun and be safe!!!
Yeah... the traffic makes if difficult but I still go. Just shoot me a line when you want and we will make the plan. I'd like to make the trip and fish Anna. You up for that sometime?
Absolutly, anytime you want let me know, I pulled my old truck out of the weeds here recently and found my rear spring shackles have rotted away, it's not expencive to fix but just getting the parts and gettting it done is going to take a little time, thats one reason why I need to wait until fall comes around but the other is Anna is just like SML during the weekend she is a little smaller but I think has just as many boats as SML lol.
As soon as I can get her ready I will give you a shout though, hopefully here in a few weeks, do week days work for you?
I'll haul my boat up there!!!
I am off the last two weeks in July

When i go up the hill i want my remaining budweiser with me lol
walking down to get another one isnt so bad, but walking back up afterwards is killer lol. years of smoking dont help either
i dont always finish what i buy that day, but i usually dont let myself run out, i usually wont even start without enough to get through the day lol. of course add a friend or two and what once was enough turns into another trip to the store lol...

Your boat looks a whole lot nicer from what I can see of it, I have a 17' Nitro that you will be more than welcome to fish from if you don't want to haul yours up here.
Naw... not better. I have a 17.5 Stratos. Either way... it would be a good day.On 6/30/2012 at 4:47 AM, Nitrofreak said:Your boat looks a whole lot nicer from what I can see of it, I have a 17' Nitro that you will be more than welcome to fish from if you don't want to haul yours up here.
