I may be heading to Lake Anna area the end of April and was wondering who you would recommend for a guide and if your familiar with the place I'll be staying. It's waterfront.
Thanks for any info.
One Fish Anna.
We don't call her One Fish Anna for no reason.

Just remember, One Fish Anna!
Right, Jacob?
McCotter is the top guide for the area.....Believe all the guides only operate on the public side of the lake though. Hot side is where all the secrets are at haha
Thanks for all the info. The area where I'll be staying is near Perkinson Point on google maps. Not sure where the hot side or anything regarding that lake is.
The part you will be on is not the hot side.
There is a nuclear power plant on Anna. The portion referred to as the hot side is the discharge for the water used to cool the plant.
Yes, look for the guards with their M-16s watching you as you get closer to the plant.
See how close you can get. Just kidding. Keep your distance.
Go with McCotter as Sean suggested. You can't go wrong with McCotter.
Have fun.
The road is September Drive. Not sure how familiar anyone is with that area. It's a waterfront property so I'll be fishing all over the backyard area and they have a boathouse also.
I know id be hitting the western docks on belmont and dockside as much as possible....and probably "work" my way east onto the farmland...heh.
Nice little area there though, entire place is pretty much open water, yet it still has the funnel effect
That area does look inviting on google maps.

Ive learned google maps to be ever so decieving when not paired with a topo map.
Go down to your new "sweet spot" to find out its 100 yard long 20 yard wide stretch of 1 1/2 ft water >_>
I think September drive is just above Stubbs bridge , I have a cancer tournament there on the 12th , I will do my best to gather as much information as I can for you , also another guide that will put you on some fish is Chris Craft , the folk there at Fish Tales are a great group of people that can help you out with anything you need , McCotters is a great recommendation as posted , be sure to call ahead because they do a ton of services .
There is an area just below Stubbs bridge as your heading toward the splits on your left , 2 coves that hold some pretty good fishing , good morning spots , the rip rap at the bridge and around that area are usually productive as well , from what I understand , look for the fish to be on primary points , water temps are in the low to mid 50's upper lake , not sure what mode of transportation you have or how far you can travel but there are some big-un's being hauled in around the mid to lower lake regions .
Good luck and be safe !!!
I used to head to lake anna yearly for a trip. We never got a guide but we did have a boat and were always on the "hot" (private) side. Using walk the dog topwater baits was always a good bet. We would always go mid summer (and d**n was that water hot! ~100 degrees at the surface) but we will still catch some nice fish. We would always be waiting for what we called "boils" where the bass were running up on the baitfish and exploding all over the surface. Sooooo much fun. We also had a lot of luck just fishing on the shore on the cold side by the small canal that connected to the warm side. Lots of big bass and stripers!

The boils on the hotside are insane when you can find em haha
Thanks again for all the info. It's alot to remember and I'm going to need to extend my stay it seems lol.
My brothers and I got into a striper boil in our kayaks last summer just below stubbs bridge. What an experience! Shad getting knocked 2-3' into the air and water spraying everywhere. Best part is that we were alone in a cove with no other boats around to spook the school.
If you have the opportunity to target stripers while staying at Anna, don't hesitate!
As Everythingthatswims says, seeing a striper feeding frenzy is fantastic.
Hope one day you will have opportunity to view such an event.
You will never forget it.
That's true , you won't forget it , it's a lot of fun and they will hit just about anything you have tied on , I like catching them on a buzz bait , they hammer the crap out of them !
If the Lmb aren't biting stripers will do. Now it's just a matter of some of the guides that I left messages with to call me back.
Best of luck and I hope you have the time of your life on Anna , you have chosen a great time to visit her for sure !
Any other suggestions for guides? Nobody wants to return my call or emails. Not someone I want to deal with.
Be patient , I had noted that they were very busy this time of year , they are really good people I promise , you might try Charlie Boils out of Sturgeon Creek marina , I think he's still doing it if you haven't already .
I received some call backs today and everyone is booked up. I'll keep poking around to try to find someone. Thanks again for any suggestions. I'll call Charlie to see what he says.
Best of luck to you sir , I hope you can get out with someone , I doubt I can make it back over after this weekend but if I get the chance and I have an open seat , you would be more than welcome to join me , I'll give it my best shot .
That would be awesome if nothing else comes through. I'll keep you posted on how my guide search goes.

Right, Jacob?
Hahahaha yeah man!!!!! I actual went out for a half day Tuesday and caught 5 and lost 1 at the boat. I'd upload the pics but they are too big apparently .
I'll post them if you want to email them to me.
A little late on the report. Been really busy.
What an interesting and partially frustrating day. I met the guide at one of the marinas at noon and we headed out to do some sight fishing. The wind was blowing hard and a cold front came through recently. We searched around certain areas where the guide knew beds were and threw shakey heads . One of the first beds we approached had about a 4lber that was swimming in a large area and not staying in the bed long at all. We tried to catch that one for a few minutes but moved on to another spot after seeing how much area the fish was covering. The next bed we slowly drifted up to had 2 bass hovering around the bed. I threw the shakey head a few times until I got it in the bed and twitched it just enough to get it to move and the bass snagged it up but during the hookset it got wrapped up in some weeds and got off. We eventually came back to that bed and the fish bit again but I wasn't expecting it and didn't set it hard enough so it was bass 2 Greg 0 on that fish. On to another bed we went and saw a nice size bass that was staying on or real close to the bed . I threw a shakey head with a modified brush hog for atleast an hour trying to get this fish to bite. There was a slightly smaller bass swimming nearby that bed and wasn't interested in what we threw at it. As we were still trying to get the bed bass to bite we looked down and saw 2 Giant bass swim under the boat that came from under a dock in about 4 fow. They were atleast 7lbers. The short time we saw them they werent interested in our baits. Finally on one cast I threw the shakey head and twitched it right into the face of the bass and it inhaled it. A quick hookset and it was game on. The bass was much bigger looking when we saw it in the net than when it was on the bed. Didn't weigh it but it was in the 3lb class. Ended up catching a smaller bass on the same bait on a nearby bed. Something resembling a bluegill was caught also but I forget what he called it. It was a slow windy day and the numbers werent there compared to just a week or so ago. All in all it was nice to hit a new lake and sight fish . Water in alot of the areas was really clear in 5 fow.
Great report. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome !! Hope you had a great time seeing the lake and some fun getting to experience Lake Anna , thanks for the report and the pics !!!
Thanks for the info on the guide. They were hard to reach. Definitely a lake I would like to visit again, without a cold front slowing the bite.

Very welcome , so glad we could help , try your next visit like in mid to late May , fronts usually settle a bit and become not so frequent , off shore structure fishing starts to kick in pretty good , also a lot of the surrounding cover you were close to as well will hold some great fishing opportunities before a lot of vacationers start to really pack the lake .
