Fishing at Disney 2024

The family and I will be vacationing at the Port Orleans resort at Disney World during the last week of January. They have some really expensive guided tours but I'd like to do my own thing maybe with a rental canoe or paddle boat. I'm just wondering if that is frowned upon. Anyone fish at Disney World before? Are Peacocks up as far as Orlando? How is the bite in January? Sorry for all the questions. I've never fished in FL before.

No Peacocks, and no shore fishing unless you don't get caught. Your own boat: nope. Asking to fish for free in Disney is akin to asking for a free room to stay in. It's another money making source for the mouse.

That sucks. I'm going to try and get away with whatever I can though. I'll claim ignorance if they hassle me. There are fishing docks there. I didn't say anything about paying to use them. I'll bring my own gear.

you can fish in the canals in ft wilderness from shore i think. Other than that as stated above....you will get sniped by mickey secret service for fishing the main lakes.
That being said.....i fished around the Grand Floridian once when staying there for an hour or so without consequence. Just dont be blatant about it, or go at night.
Those lakes are crazy good btw.

I think it's a bad idea to try to fish Disney without paying. First of all, it's unethical- you now know you have to pay to fish, and ethics demands you fish only where allowed. Secondly, you can have a great time at the parks without fish there. Third, there are PLENTY of lakes outside the parks that you can fish on and catch great fish.
As far as peacocks go, the farthest you'll consistently find them with be southern Palm Beach County. I've heard reports of them found in Lake Okeechobee, but it is unlikely those fish survived the winter.
That being said, have a great trip!

I hope to fish Disney before I croak and I went on the Disney web site and saw the costs for guides.
I think it will be one of the best investments I will make at Mouse Town.
Can't wait. As soon as my wife's back is up to traveling, Disneyworld - Here I Come!

No way I'm paying $250 for 2 hours on the lake. I'll bring my gear. If I can find a way to get some fishing in without too much hassle then I'll go for it. If not then I'll just leave my gear in the car and enjoy the other attractions.

Paul, you just gotta fish Disney and let us know how it went.
And if you want to try your luck in some local waters that are off limits to the public, check out Bush Gardens in Williamsburg.
Their ponds are out of this world. But you need to know someone who works there to fish the ponds.
I wish I knew someone who I could go with to fish those Bush Garden ponds.

OK, so if I am not able to fish the Disney lakes are there any close by lakes around Orlando that I can open to the public? I just might be able to sneak out for a little while very early in the morning. They need to be close to Port Orleans resort.

Turkey Lake is a place that fishes pretty good from what I have heard and they rent boats there.

Port Orleans Riverside has a pier on a pond you can pay to fish off, legally. There are also small canals that run around the grounds. I have heard there was decent fishing there, but I think they may ask you to leave. Not sure how monitored they are.
The campground does have canals throughout that I think you can fish legally. We caught some good ones out of there a few years back.

I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside a few years ago. It was right on a canal that lead to downtown Disney. There were no posted signs for no fishing but I had also heard that fishing was not allowed so I limited my fishing to the first hour or two of daylight to be safe. I fished right from the bank of the canal and never got asked to leave. As soon as the foot traffic started to pick up I quit for the day.
It took me a few days to figure out what they were biting but once I did I caught 5 to 10 fish per morning with several over 4 lbs up to a 7.5 lb beauty caught right against the wall under a hanging Magnolia tree.
A few years prior to that I wasn't staying on the water so I drove over to the Contemporary hotel and fished the canal there. Once again, no signs saying I couldn't fish, fished only mornings and was never asked to leave.

I packed 2, two piece rods in a rigid tube, the reels in my luggage and a small tackle bag of assorted soft plastic and season appropriate lures. One trip I caught most on flukes and the trip to Port Orleans Riverside where the water was stained, weightless lizzards were key. One walk around the property and you'll know why. The anoles are everywhere.

hey this is an interesting post because my aunt who I am really close with is the GM of yacht and beach club, which is next door and almost identical. If you rent one of those boats and try to fish you will be stopped, and unfortunately the lake those resorts are on are part of the epcot lake system, and have no access to seven seas lagoon and bay lake system, so the fishing is not as good as seven seas lagoon and bay lake system. I have fished disney three times and use the guides out of the contemporary resort, the guides are good, and let me give you another word of advice, it's walt disney world, amazing bass fishery, use the shiners and forget lures. It's the only time I will use shiners because the quality of the fish is amazing. If you fish the shiners, I guarantee you three four pounders and up. You will have a great time, enjoy yourself.
Another word, they are sponsored by lucky craft so if you fish artificials the lures and selection is great. Have fun, I was just there December 23

x2 great lake, have fished it countless times... PS 250$ FOR THREE HOURS IS CHEAPER THAN MOST LAKE TOHO, ST JOHNS, HARIS CHAIN, AND OKEECHOBEE GUIDES WITH COST FOR SHINERS... :

I saw a Roland Martin/Jimmy Houstin show from there and they tore them up. They were able to fish the canals in the Majic Kingdom before the park opened, and caught one after another between 4 and 7 lbs.

the JH episode i saw there they were fishing around epcot. Throwing lipless crankbaits all day. With some contest winner in the back of jimmy's boat. Who btw like caught one all day.

There used to be a $100 trip for a single person at Disney at noon. Ask for it.
Its worth the money just to see all the sites and and catch a few small bass. Don't expect to hammer them or catch big ones. The guides are nice too.
DON'T pay $250.
for $300 you can get a local guide give you 6 hrs on another lake
