since these are the primary places everyone is fishing for the most part it makes sense to make a thread. Not sure how warm the spoils is but its where alot of folks fish this time of year so I included it. I dont want to clutter the va fishing expo thread with our reports. But to answer NewAngler- yes that was Marc and I fishin 4mr yesterday. Lots of huge carp jumpin but the only bass we saw were babies swimmin around all under a pound. Lots of vatos fishing out there so that spot is blown up now imo. They keep everything they catch not to mention the constant pressure. Blue plains was holdin bigger fish but not many from what I could see with my polarized Oakley monster dogs. Its gonna be about 60 degrees tommorow btw.
Despite the massive fishing pressure those vatos can't make a dent in the bass population at 4mr, they are mainly panfishing and sometimes they get lucky and hook a bass....
But it still bugs the hell out of me to see them out there in full force with buckets... >
it's not as if the locals haven't been fishing there for years. I'm just going to go on weekdays (not for at least a few days--i want to let the poo poo from the sewage leak work it's way out to the bay...)
btw, i suggest we refer to it as "4mr" because then a google search about it won't bring up our reports for random people who aren't even members.
Good call on the abbreviation! Esp with this rain it wont be good till wednesday or thursday..
4m r is full of crappie, and some ok sized bass, I haven't hooked any over 3, but ive seen one or two swimming around that were sizable. There is some pressure but for the most part I dont think the majority of people know what there doing or are targeting crappie.
Since I don't have to work tomorrow I was thinking of going to 4mr since the weather will be good. I don't mind a challenge and Beaverdam is still frozen.
I can't believe people keep what they catch there. That's nasty.
I'm just looking for a fight with something big.
If you want to hook something big, bring some corn and/or white bread and fish for carp; there's some huge ones digging around in the mud right now. Tough out there today, high, fast current, muddy, and cold. Caught a few (2.5) of the sub lb bass on a roostertail that I carolina rigged to get it down. Also snagged a few of the shad on the same thing. Had hits on the jig w/smoking rooster trailer, but that could've been sticks washign down in the current.
4mr was legit. First time i went was yesterday. Got the big skunk, but thats no surprise. I can get up there sometime during the week, so let me know what day you guys go.

Yeah...but as much as I hate to say it...
Showing up with a hot wife who can use a baitcaster...
Instant win! ;D
Any hopes of Bull Run Marina (BRM)?
I think we should call it fecal mile run. Make sure you bring a vat of purell and remember not to shake hands with your trouser trout unless absolutly necessary!
apparently there was actually a sewage leak upstream on Friday. :-/
I thought the wife would gain me some points.
Both Jessie and myself were ill last night. Fine now, so I don't know what it was yesterday. But had us shaken for about an hour.
It was probably dinner like you said Josh, the effects of the contamination if any at all wouldn't show up that fast
I wouldn't bet on that Thai. I would be willing to bet a case of the squirts and abdominal discomfort is entirly possible with sewage leaks. The crappy( pun intended) Thing is that no action was taken by the plant to protect anyone.
This was maybe 3 hours after being at 4mr, the chances of Josh and his wife both feeling ill while the rest of us that were there felt no such discomfort possible but not probable
The chances of them both feeling ill after eating dinner is highly possible & probable
I'm not saying it can't happen but in this case and for Josh and Jessie's sake, I would rather bet my money on dinner than the leakage
I'm hoping it was dinner as well. Back to business, when is the next trip? When is the crap gonna be out of tjere?

Im ditching the girly tmr and planing a trip to a spot that should still be clear in our area if you want to get away for a little while
ok so 4mr it is from now on. Anywho...I might go up tommorow, I know my friend brent is goin. His friends went up there the other day at 6:30 am and did really well. If anyone is goin somewhere better then lemme know. I wouldnt mind fishing somewhere where I dont have to see Mr. Hankey and his buddies floating by
Im want to fish tmr Steve, just called your phone went to machine
call me
thats funny, I was gonna use that image for my avatar but chose another instead. Great minds think alike, either that or we used the first two images that come up on a google search of mr hankey
I'll try and see if I can get out tomorrow. I'll let you guys know. I don't need a specific spot, but arlington/ alexandria area?
I was looking for one that had howdy ho haha, it just so happened to be the second, but give me a call man so we can discuss fishing tmr
Hey guys not trying to hijack the thread, but I just wanted to say hello. I'm new to the site, and I live in Arlington in the Shirlington area. I didn't know there were so many fisherman in Northern VA, it's great to hear. I hope to see some of you guys out on the water.

Hey man, welcome to the site. My company does a lot of work for the apartment bulidings in Shirlington area. You new to the area?
I fished 4mr, blue plains, and the spoils yesterday. 4mr was very "muddy" and the only thing that bit was a shad and a big carp that slammed a silver buddy. I nailed some nice bass (including a 3.5 pounder) in blue plains on a silver buddy and some really nice crappie on a Mann's stingray grub under the dock. Also caught one small bass in the spoils on a silver buddy but the water there was very cold. All ice was gone yesterday but there was a lot on Saturday which Steve can attest to.
Hey Guys,
Been lurking for a couple of months and need to introduce myself. I am primarily a river smallie fisherman but will fish flat water from time to time. I fish out of 3 yaks and a canoe. My home waters are the upper Potomac but I do have a special affection for some of the smaller reservoirs on Quantico.
I fished Dickerson Power plant in MD yesterday with a couple of crappie and 1 smallish SM to show for it. River was up and muddy.
I would like to caution those that fish the toilet bowl (4mile) to be careful. That polluted water is no joke and will make you sick. Keep cuts on fingers/hands covered when handling those fish.
Good to see all the NOVA participation on this board!

Seeing a rising trend in people using blade baits in our area.. And with alot of success! Wonder why... :
Here's what I have to show for 4MR yesterday.
Bass shown in actual size
This one was 14".
Then while working under the bridges I hooked into a monster, unfortunately though not on the heavy duty rod. I thought I missed it at first because the line went real slack. I started cranking it back in to get another cast off, only to find it was still on. A few seconds later it was under the kayak, my rod bent in half and then the line snapped. >
What setup were you using when you hooked into the monster? Didn't have time to loosen up the drag?

6' Shakespeare medium action/Zebco 33 with 10lb line and my very effective 1/3oz silver/green Little Cleo. I've been meaning to put some better line on it but haven't gotten around to it, not that it would've mattered.

Because it's winter!
I have been fishing the buddy in cold water since I joined my bass club and fished with a member who was on the silver buddy fishing team. If you think that blade baits are a secret on the river you are crazy.
