Gators dont jump into 19 foot boats and attack fisherman. Whens the last time you have heard of a fisherman being attacked on his boat while fishing?
Just dont fall in.. ;D
Gator's is good eats man!!!!! lol. They wont bother you. Actually their probably just afraid of you as your are of them. And I second that motion, DONT FALL IN NEXT TO ONE.
ok i guess cause im new to boating i dont know what to expect from the gator ..all i know is every time i see one i head the other way and when im searching weeds and catails all im thinking is plz dont let me see a gator...lol...i guess with time i will get over it
i,ve only been boating a 2months now ........!!! lol
The gators aren't gonna mess with ya, especially while you're in the boat. Stay away during mating season and don't feed them.
Safer in a boat than on shore.
ok i think i will be ok with the gator ....
so the gators aren't aggressive ...
now the other day i was watching a fishing show and a snake swimed up to this boat and was atempting to get on the boat ....it was big and black.... the dude picked it up and turned it around ...
their is know way im picking up a snake ....lol
i hope i dont jump out the boat if i see one in the boat.....lol
i seen one in the cattails the other day just laying their i went to the other side of the lake after that ....
i think it was a mocassin
i know i sound like a punk but i have to get over these phobia's
Snakes in open water will try to get on your boat for a rest. They are tired of swimming. Don't panic. The snake will climb up and then sit still to rest. Take your oar and slowly scoop under him and flip him back out of the boat. Or if you are one of these animal lover snake handlers let him rest for a while. But I recoment getting him back out quickly before he is well rested and capable of a good defense.
Correct. Gators are not aggressive. Don't ever feed them. It causes them to associate humans with food witch then leads to dogs and kids being snatched from shore. But never from boats that I have heard of.
You think you got problems, I'm a surfer swimming with sharks.

surfer thanks for the advise ..
1 problem i was thinkin more like wack the snake with the paddle or somthing ... i hate snakes im going to prey i never have one get on my boat....

sometimes my 5yr old son likes to fish with me...
i dont think i have the balls to handle a snake.. and good luck with surfing i know i am never doing that....no way!!! lol....
DJ,
Being from Louisiana we learned to give the gators their space and just move on. They may check you out but they will leave you alone.
If a female is guarding her babies you really stay away from her.
As for snakes, if one does fall in your boat, just take the paddle, get under it, and toss it out of the boat. Then change your underwear.
As for snakes in the water, only once did I have water moccasins strike the boat when fishing. Otherwise, snakes will avoid you.
And remember, gators like marshmallows so don't throw any in the water!!! ;D ;D ;D
Remember to never, ever, try to shoot a snake while it is in your boat. Laugh all you want to, but I have seen an idiot do it. I would however recommend shooting a Gator that got in the boat, but that's a little different
I can't believe a big guy like you is afraid of snakes and gators. LOL ;D ;D
thanks for all the great info ...
and im not really scared i just dont know what to do if i enconter these animals...
and im alwayz cautius when i do something new...
i never jumped out of plane and if i was going to do so i would ask questions first ...ive been in florida all my life and i have much respect for gators and snakes...lol espiecally on their turf lol....
they can build all the pretty houses they want
this is still the Swamp ...lol
In this vid you can see just how slow a snake in the water is. I don't want to make it sound like its no big deal because this critter would have my undivided attention until he or I left the area. But you can see how easy it is to gently push the snake away. Or like this guy, whack it a few times. Not my style though.

You have nothing to fear. Gators are scared of boats and people. Even ones that have been fed are just looking for a hand out.
^the above statement was not approved by the park worker in Lake Worth. haha
gators only eat yankees so you aint got nothin to worry about.
When a gator sees you images start flowing through his brain. Boots, belts, pocketbooks, and such, are thoughts that keep them at a safe distance. However, a people-fed gator becomes quite a different creature. Do not feed the gators!
lol 8-)
So, I guess stray dogs and cats are much of a problem down there?

I've been fishing for over 25 yrs now and have never had a snake try to get into the boat... don't let them worry you any.
Same for gators... I've waded in old private phosphate pits with big (and I mean BIG) gators all around! Just keep an eye on them and don't feed or mess with them and you'll be just fine... they usually take off when you get close!

Hope you got some good life insurance.
Snakes won't bother you. However, I have had a Northern Watersnake crawl up my outboard. He kept coming at the boat and finally he disappeared. I looked around for him and found him wrapped around the linkages near the hinge.
I purposely inched my boat up to and underneath basking Brown Watersnakes. When they dive off the branch they land in your boat. Fun times!
I've caught countelss snakes while fishing, some nicer than others.
I caught this Black Rat Snake several hundred yards from shore swimming across a lake. I brought him home and treated his eye and released him later where I found him.
And I decided to grab this Northern Watersnake as he came near my boat. He left me a love bite....
im not going to worry any more ...
but if a snake comes on board i can almost promise
im getting off the boat and into the lake ...lol
The small gators will sometimes strike buzzbaits and topwaters. My friend and I caught one on blackwater in the seminole WMA this summer. It was a pain to get him unhooked but we did. The funny thing was he came back for more a few minutes later. hehe

They can be quite annoying, the young ones.I have had some very stupid ones that would go after a topwater over and over no matter where you cast and thus ruining an entire area.Even hooked them and let them go and they still don't learn. They are very fond of spooks, buzzbaits, and a nice tender bronzeye frog is their favorite.
I didn't catch this one on purpose though. It came through a patch of scum and hammered my frog during low light first thing in the morning.I thought I had a real mama of a bass...at first :
Welcome to the world of boating, theres nothting better then having your own boat.Nice fish in pics dont worry about the gators.unless it is mating season you will here them growling stay away, but as it has been said already they are more afraid of you.
i went out today and the wind was blowin bad so i couldnt fish like i wanted to
i went all the way to the other side of the lake and five minute into fishing the wind changed direction
