Lake Anna Meet And Greet !!!! 2024

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

We have a chance to meet and greet at Lake Anna Va. in Sept., two days are posted as a poll as to which one will work better for all who wish to come and join us.

Zoff has asked to have us all come out and participate, there will be boaters and non boaters alike and please let us know which you are, boater or non boater, if you are a boater please note if you will have a seat available.

There are a lot of tournaments going on at Anna in Sept., parking can be difficult to find at the three most popular spots to launch from, Anna point, High point, and Sturgeons Creek.

I would suggest the State park, there is a large parking area, with places to picnic and socialise, and the boat ramp is excellent, it is located at the splits so you won't have to travel too far to find some good fishing.

Anyone unfamilure with the lake and has questions please feel free to ask.

We look forward to the opportunity to meet a lot of the people on this forum and learn a bit from each other.

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

I voted for Saturday, I think the trip will be better if we still have Sunday to rest a little, but I am game for either day.

Boater here with an open seat.

fishing user avatarBroke bass fisherman reply :

Non-boater here. Still looking into finances to see if I can make it but I am hoping all will work out.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Sunday is best as it will not conflict with any duck and geese hunting if the season is open.

fishing user avatarTraveler2586 reply :

I'm good for either day and like the idea of the state park; I'll camp Fri, Sat, Sun nights; E/W camp site number is TBD.

See you then.

Edit: I'll be a boater and can take a non-boater. Is there going to be an agenda for the day???

fishing user avatarMr. Swabby(aka westtennessee1) reply :

New to the VA area, coming from TN. Fished a few times wtih Road Warrior and attended the past two road trips (KYLake/Guntersville)... I live near Fredricksburg and trying to find a good place to drop the boat in the water and fish. Any advice from fellow BR members in the area??? Going to try to make the Lake Anna meet and greet and would prefer Saturday the 22nd.

Thanks!

Jeff

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

Mr Swabby,

Welcome to Va., hope you can make it out, we would love to have you there !!

If you have fished with RW then Anna should be a breeze for ya.

There are some really good areas around F-burg and neighboring counties, with lots of good guy's and gal's that can help you out with that, WayneP. is one that comes to mind but lots of others.

Traveler,

We look forward to meeting you, hope you enjoy the state park it's a great place to stay and very clean, and usually very quiet.

Sam,

Thanx for the heads up, I will look into the hunting and check it out then post it here, will you possibly be particapating?

BBF,

Hope you can get some money together and meet us there, it would be nice to have you.

fishing user avatarBlack Knight reply :

Non-boater here. I'll check finances and next months schedule to see if I can make it. Great idea. Maybe it could be made an annual event.

This was an idea from a conversation between Zoff and Sam, This is one of the central located bodies of water in Va. and one that was suggested in that conversation between the two, Zoff and I had a conversation, I offered to help and here we are, hoping to meet some of our members and have some fun.

I personally would like to be able to do several of these a year at all the different locations around our great state to have the chance to meet all of our members from Va. and maybe some others from BR.

Black Knight I hope you are able to put enough funds together and meet us there, it should be a lot of fun.

As far as an agenda is concerned Traveler, I know there will be people that are going to be fishing early and some later, my thought is to go fishing early and have everyone meet back at the park at noon or so to have a bite and to share some b's-ing and such LOL !!

then head back out for some afternoon fun, so im thinking just keep it simple, but we are open to any and all thoughts and suggestions.

As for us who like it early, The gate at the state park does not open until dawn, it's automatic, which should be between 5:45 and 6:00, I hope to have all available info out to everyone via this thread for all who have questions so that we can all enjoy some early time on the water, as for the afternoon, if you decide to stay and fish, the gate at the state park will close at dusk, but it will open for people who are leaving the lake.

Looks like only 9 Votes? Are there more interested that just don't care about the date?

fishing user avatarTraveler2586 reply :

Question, how many, and who, can make it both days?

There may be BR members available both days; I'm arriving Friday afternoon and departing Monday.

Good point. I wish I could do both but I doubt it will happen. Since you mentioned it.... I am going to try and make it work.
fishing user avatarBroke bass fisherman reply :

I can probably make either date ( depending on Sat work call) but probably not both.

Really good question, I don't think anyone thought of making it a 2 day event, I have made plans for one of the two days but I will look into the second and see if I can do the same Traveler.

Good to see the interest from all, and can't wait to meet with all of you.

Sam,

This was originally Zoff's idea from a conversation you two had a short time ago, it was your suggestion to include Anna, thank you for a great suggestion, I am more than willing to help any way I can to make this happen, I will work with him and see what is needed, I look forward to meeting you.

I only see this getting bigger as we go and may need to work out plans to make it a weekend event in the future,

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Blast off at 7 and weigh in at 4????

Gives us time to lie to each other after fishing.

Looking forward to it.

And by the way, if the weather is bad on Saturday we may have to go on Sunday.

X2, Please let me know if there is anything I can help with. Also, I like the idea to call this a Meet & Greet as it doesn't take any wind out of the Road Trip sales.

This is for the Moderators - This text editor sucks,,, I highlighted starting with the "I" and ending with the "n" in happen. This text editor has been an on-going problem. :(

That is one of the goals, we don't want to be "copy cats" so to speak, we just thought this would be a chance for some of the locals to be able to meet up and enjoy some time on the water and give some of the non boaters a chance to fish some bigger waters and have some fun learning from others, hopefully, it all works out, I don't think we are taking away from the BR roadtrips but at the very least we are trying to give back to our own general community, especially for the ones that will not be able to attend the roadtrips for lack of expenses etc...

We are tossing around quite a few ideas, if it all works out, it only gets better from here.

Thanx for the offer Traveler !!!! we may need it.

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

Little bit of updated info for those who are coming

If you may choose to spend the night there are a couple of campgrounds in the area if you are interested.

1 State park $24.oo per nite for standard sites $32.00 for water and electric sites cabins are seasonal the ones I had seen are $74.00 per nite for a single bedroom, parking and launch will be free should you stay.

2 Christopher Run campground $30.00 per nite for standard $33.00 for water and electric $35.00 water, electric and sewer hook ups they also have small cabins for $50.00 per nite.

Fro additional info on the surrounding area campgrounds you can google "camping around/at lake anna" it will bring up a host of local areas with addresses and all the contact info needed.

For those that are bringing a boat, launch fee at the front entrance will be $9.00, there will not be anyone at the front entrance that early in the AM, they have an honor system, put your fee in the envelope and remove the tear away window tag to hang on your mirror and slip the envelope through the mail slot in the door.

For those that are non boaters your parking pass is $5.00, the same applies as above for payment, do not forget to put the tag on your mirror, the PO PO will check your tag during the day and make sure you paid by matching the envelope you shoved through the mail slot.

There are two seperate parking lots, one for cars and one for trucks with trailers, the car lot is on the left and the truck/trailer lot on the right, make sure you park in the right location or you can get a fine.

The gate opens 1 hr before day lite and 1 hr after dark it will close, we are going to launch by 7 AM, all people need to be there for the random drawing early so we can get gone by 7, please and thank you !!!

This is starting to get exciting and I can not wait to meet all of you !!!

fishing user avatarZoff reply :

You did some serious leg work NF. I will call you later this evening.

Just so everybody knows....

We have asked and are going to ask for donations from fishing manufacturers, distributors, and merchants. So far we have a small amount of items that will be given away in a drawing or three depending on how much stuff we can get. We also will make this an informal tourney for bragging rights... big bass... best 5... smallest (lol)... just for some fun.

We will fish for a bit then break for lunch. Nitrofreak said there is a reasonably priced restaurant on the lake then we can get together for supper at the end. A cookout maybe?????

Does anybody have any input or ideas?

I can say that no matter how many sign up... I will be there and fish with whoever shows. Hope we get a bunch.

fishing user avatarchrisdm3 reply :

All of that sounds good to me and is half of gas and the launch fee good enough for a non boater to give to the boater

It is a good question, half of the launch fee would only be 2 bucks, the parking permit for those who are coming is 5 bucks for all vehicles and the launch fee for the boat is 4 bucks, so 9 dollars total for the boats, we already have to pay to get in to fish so the 5 dollar parking pass will have to be paid by all and should not be concidered as half of the launch fee.

I feel we should leave that up to the boater for them to decide, so be prepaired to pay if they wish for half of the cost of fuel, it's only fair, as for me, I simply want you non boaters to have a shot at fishing for a day on a boat, a day of fun, a chance to learn, and if we can learn something from each other even better.

We are looking into a big cookout at the end of the day, just some burgers and dogs kind of thing, so that the family does not get left out of the equasion if they choose to participate.

If we do, what is everyones thoughts on something of that nature, we would ask for 5 bucks from each to chip in and bring a covered dish if you can.

Same here.

We know that times can be tough for all of us. Some of us will have to drive/haul a boat 3+ hours and find a place to stay. Can get into a few $$$. Based on that, we are trying to keep the cost down. Main two reasons for the cookout... 1: Relatively cheap. 2: Better way to fellowship (less formal and can move around). Any Non-Boater living in my AO (hokiebass804 has already claimed a seat if he can make it) can hitch a ride with me.

As for the Boater/Non-Boater costs... That will be between them. We are not going to say "YOU SHALL..." or "YOU SHALL NOT...". I would advise being prepared to cover some costs. Personally... I do not expect the repay. If whoever I am paired with wants to... I will accept with no argument or questions. Mainly because my best friend pays me but that was after me refusing umpteen times and he finally told me it was insulting. My whole logic in that is I am going fishing if you are with me or not so it costs me the same either way. If I ask you to go with me then paying me is way, way out of the question. I invited you. If you ask me, "Please take me to Lake Gottawetaline" then I am more open to the $$$. My choosing to come to the Meet & Greet is paramount to asking the Non-Boater if they want to fish with me, not them asking for me to take them, as I am well aware that I will have someone fishing with me and I will be fishing no matter what.

That being said... we planned on not drawing partners until that morning. A surprise sorta. This conversation got me to thinking "Is there going to be a problem not knowing who your partner is in advance?" Not that there is a serious problem but there were two questions that came to mind...

  1. Do we have the random drawing before the M&G so the Boater and Non-Boater can work out the $$$ before hand or do you just take your chances?
  2. Is there anyone you do not want to fish with?

Question 1 needs no explanation as we all have been stiffed when we figure we'd get something. So... tell me what you want here.

Question 2 is also simple. I have not met anyone here yet that I would absolutely not fish with but I have met elsewhere that I will never have that person on my boat again. An example... I had this one guy on my boat that is a bit overgrown and clumsy. I didn't know about the clumsy until he got on the boat. Well, clumsy is not the right word but he does not and never will get sea legs. I have never had someone make me feel as if they were going to flip a bass boat but he did. He'd move and the boat would nearly dip the gunwale in the water. Not because of his size but because he'd nearly fall over EVERY time. He'd cast over my line. Didn't understand any boat etiquette. I constantly had to wait for him to retrieve so I could cast. Broke one of my rods and one of my reels by stepping on them, not once, but twice. Never offered to pay for the damage... (OK. I was ranting) Needless to say, he won't go with me again. If there is anyone you see on the list that you absolutely WON'T fish with... shoot me or Nitrofreak a message and we will make sure you will not be paired together.

Does that about cover it?

fishing user avatarTraveler2586 reply :

Can we get some idea of who is planing on attending on Saturday, who will be there on Sunday, who is a boater, and who is a non-boater?

If someone hasn't already started one, I can do a spreadsheet if everyone sends me a PM with their info, i.e.

Name

Cell Phone

Boat yes/no

Sat yes/no

Sun yes/no

I will be there Sat & Sun with a Ranger 185 VS. As of now I have a seat available for both days.

As for helping for expenses, I do not expect anything, I'll trade the enjoyment of meeting a new friend for the fuel & oil.

But maybe a word of caution (with the above post in mind) - you break it, you've bought it. ;)

Nitro, Zoff, others, just let me know what I can do to help with the cook out, i.e. $$$, labor, bring something (what), etc.

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

Traveler,

We are waiting to see how many are interested, as far as the cookout is concerned, even if we get no more people you are more than welcome to join us at our camper for dinner, if you feel you must bring something, I will see what is on the menu and get back to you, how "dat" be?

There is a sheet on another post Zoff has started we have 4 boats and two 2 non boaters as of now, it is under " who is coming to lake anna va.? "

However I did not see you listed for some reason, I will contact Zoff and have him add you in.

As for the ride you are offering, it is very kind of you to do so and your support has been awesome !!! thank you very very much !!!

As for the rest of you guy's there has been 573 views on this meet and greet...573? and only 6 people want to participate with 2 others that are working hard on trying to attend.

looks like only a few of us are going to have all the fun the way it is right now, I know there are more boaters and non boaters out there so where is everybody?

fishing user avatarEddie-NoVA reply :

I really want to go, but will have to check with work schedule. Will be a non-boater.

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

Good luck I hope you can join us Eddie, we will add you to the list of hopefull's and we look forward to meeting you if you can make it !!
