The wife and kids are off to the beach for a month! That means its fishing time for me! I live in Reston, VA and get off work around 3pm. I am looking for places that I can go afterwork and get in some good fishing. I have tried Lake Fairfax, but the algae is killing me. Anyone have any recommendations on where to try? I do not have a boat yet, but may be getting a canoe shortly.
QuoteIf you are will to make the drive to Lansdowne, there are a few places there to hit the Potomac or Goose Creek. There is a park back in a neighborhood where the Norman Course of Lansdowne Golf Club is located, that you can access the river. Forgive me, but the name of the park escapes me. There is also a place to access Goose Creek off of Riverpoint Dr. in the same area. This is also a park located in a neighborhood, it is called Kipheart Bridge Park. Goose is easily accessed from here, you can also walk downstream and after a mile or so run into the Potomac. GREAT fishing there! There's always Algonkian to access the Potomac, fishing is just ehh there.
Also, there are a lot of public ponds is Ashburn. I recommend the Pavilion Pond, some big fish in there.
Hope I was able to help a little.
Good luck,
Snogle
For the record, Ashburn ponds are NOT public.

Code for I have friends who live there and wish to respect their property and the money they pay for maintenance by establishing its private status on a public message board.
We have BR members who live in that community and are quite generous about giving C&R fisherman permission to fish as guests but knowing some of the poaching and trespassing problems they have had and the amount of money that the community spends to maintain the ponds, I hate to see people advertising those ponds as public to everyone.

I hate poachers and trespassers just as much as anyone. But I dont condone lying to fellow "fishermen" about the publicity of a pond.
I think PMs are the way to go when putting suggesting spots though. But dont lie like that its just wrong.
I don't think he was lying, I think he was just mistaken.
QuoteI don't think he was lying, I think he was just mistaken.
No not him.
What are you mistakenly assuming is a lie? The AV ponds ARE in fact private. There are posted signs stating such at most if not all of them.

PM sent

The AV Ponds ARE IN FACT PRIVATE. Making posts that encourage trespassing is against forum rules.
lol

I IN FACT live in the Village, and I have never ONCE been asked for my Village ID. I really don't think that they care as long as you clean up after yourself and respect the property.
Dan I am sending you a PM.
Regardless if they've checked you or not, the fact remains that the lakes are private to residents and their guest. There should be signs on the lake clearly stating this....
Wow.. I feel like I'm reading a feed from facebook not a bass forum.
I love trespassers!!!
They taste delicious and are usually pretty sporting if you aim low.
here
Questions?
Dan beat me!! But to get the point acrosss I'll leave it
Great...
But that sign is not at all waterbodies in ashburn. probably just the named lakes. Thanks for the proof guys.

I believe they are all named. Cedar, Adler, heron, tippacano, pavillion, and the others I can't remember. Honest mistake, but now you know
yeah i looked up there are 8 that are named. I wish they would put it up on the Ashburn Village site. It just states those 8 are stocked annually for fishing. but nowhere on the site about it being private.
I fish at a pond in ashburn that has no name and the only sign there states its catch and release.
Epic. Do I need to post the turtle remix video?

out of curiousity, yes.
Great idea. I'm going to suggest putting fishing regs on the website to our friend on the av committee.
I'd bet the website doesn't say anything about the ponds being private because its intended audience are AV members. That and the signs are fairly obvious.

+ "sorry for calling you a liar" ? :-?
Well, this topic has gone off in an odd direction, but I thought I would post some feedback on the Kipheart Bridge Park site.
After driving around a bit, I did find it, its easy to miss as it looks like a driveway in a neighborhood. I walked the 1.5 miles down the path along goose creek and made me way out to the Potomac. Caught a small bass on the second cast with a spinner, but then didn't have any more luck until I decided to try out a crank bait, at around 7pm. Second cast of the crank bait and I landed a 2 pound large mouth. I went on to catch 3 other smaller bass and lost a bigger one close to shore. All in all I was thrilled, as the the 2 pounder was the biggest bass I have ever caught. ;D
Pikesnogle you are my new hero! Thanks for the advise!

Try fishing upstream as well. I've caught some nice fish above the Kepheart area as well.

Haha soooo true.
the iilegal mexicans are the ones causing alot of the problems in NOVA. Since no one else came out and said it, there I said it. They keep everything they catch regardless of species or size. And from what I heard they started showng up at the ponds in Cashburn. So basically if you arent mexican, you wont draw the same kinda attention if you decide to fish there. But I agree, leave those ponds to the folks who live there , there are plenty of other spots to fish in virginia. And for the record I was raised by central americans so plz dont anyone start implying what I said is even sightly biased or racist.

Glad I could help you out. That place is AWESOME, as I said. What kind of crank were you using? I have a lot of luck on senko's there, any variation of green. However dark green with red flakes has been kickin some serious smallie butt! ;D
Caught this smallie there a few weeks ago, one of the bigger ones I have caught.

I always wondered why I get asked for my fishing license. : By the way, I'll make sure to tell my people to ease up on the harvesting.
Now that we are on the subject. It never seems to amaze me how many times white folks and other races ask me why I don't keep my fish when I'm out fishing. Now, I get it. They are trying to trick me--stinkers! They want to put me on that list of Mexicans harvesting all the fish. No...no...no, you won't trick this little Mexican.
Not sure the brand of the lure since it was old, but it was bright green. I'll have to try a dark green one.
Have you had luck with other types of lures there?
Have you tried wading further down the river or even up into the creek?
I have seen a few people out in the creek fishing, not sure how much luck they had though.

Senkos Senkos Senkos! That's all you really need there to be honest... But I have done alright upstream (Goose Creek) with green jigs and in-line spinners.
I second that notion! That spot is great, especially when there is some decent flow coming out of Goose Creek. Right now, with the water levels down and the grass growing THICK, it's a tough spot to fish unless you wade WAAAAAY out there, but in the spring it's awesome.
Yeh with the water level so low I wasn't having any luck with bass in the creek. I switched things up and pulled out my fly rod the other week and caught a ton of bluegill for fun.
