Green Top in Richmond has put many items on sale.
Not everything, but a decent selection.
They are also stocking their new inventory.
They are putting items that are on sale along the back wall in the hunting part of the store so be sure to check it out. It is to the right of the bow and arrow area.
Their sales starts on January 24.
The Shimano guys will be there on January 25 and 26.
There are some good coupons for money and products from Berkley so pick up some and get the goodies.
I think I saw the Bait Monkey in the parking lot.
I can't wait
Sam, I was told a couple of days ago that Shimano was not coming...... I hope what your saying is true, I would like to talk to the Shimano reps again.
Ah, Green Top. I love that place. I'll be spending a wad there next month. Company bonus time
Cool, thanks for the heads up Sam. I'll be there next Friday (1/25) with Rob (flippin4it) as part of our Fishing Expo road-trip. Where are these coupons that you speak of?
Oh yeh, I was just up there last night to get some jigheads for tying and I stocked up on War Eagle jigs and spinnerbaits.
Now I just gotta find some more money to spend.
Drums,
The coupons are on small advertising posters sticking out from the shelving. You can't miss them. They are by the Berkley products, espically the line.
War Eagles and Rico's are not on sale. I asked.
And yes, the guys were supposed to start putting up a 30 foot tent for the Shimano guys. I sincerely hope they show up as I have some questions for them.
As for BP48 needing more money....get a job!!!!! ;D
Are the shimano people just there to talk to or are they going to be putting on presentations. It would be nice if they would put their products on sale.

Excellent, thank you sir! :-)
I need to stop by Greentops and pick up a Mattlures Bluegill and Baby Bass. I need to start buying lures for my annual trip to Florida!
Gander Mountain just opened this summer at the I-95 exit at Elmont on the way to Green Top.
Stop in and see what they have, too.
The Bass Pro Shop has broken ground north of Green Top and Gander Mountain at Lewistown Road off I-95. Look for the sign.
Can't wait!!!!
Last year I noticed that Greentops got ran sacked during Bassarama. I stopped by and looked at the sale items. They have a bunch of Berkley Frenzy crankbaits. It looks like they didn't sell that many last year because they have a bunch on clearance.
I will stop by the Richmond Fishing Expo on Sunday.

WOW, really? I had no idea that was coming. So in the not too distant future...we're gonna have Greentop, Gander Mtn, and BPS all within a few miles of each other. Incredible!
That's amazing...I can't wait!
I also hope the big guys don't put Green top out of business though =/ they seem like more of a smaller mom/pop store ( I might be totally wrong )
Hey Simon,
The larger box stores will bring business to Green Top as Green Top has some better selections of Zoom products and other items that the big boxes do not carry.
Plus the fact that the guys at Green Top are now friendly and helpful.
The Shimano guys will be there on Friday and Saturday.
I went by the store today and got some stuff; I was hopeful that the War Eagles and RICOs and Lucky Crafts and Bandit Cranks would be on sale but no luck.
Did get some plastics I was looking for. Picked up 6 bags which should last through the summer.
See you at the Expo. I will be wearing my LSU sweatshirt.
Heya Sam,
Gotta love those greentop guys, so helpful. As for the sale I was there a few days ago and saw some LC pointers and I think one type of LC crank there for 8.99, they were kinda hidden on the middle top of the back wall section. I hope they aren't sold out cause I was planning to head back there (without the girlfriend ;D ) and pick up a few things.

There is some relationship between Green Top and the old Thalhimers department store chain. The owner of Green Top had his hands heavily in Thalhimers, possibly being an owner.
I was told this story by Green Top manager, but I can't remember how it went.
I do know that Green Tops owns the building they are in and may be building a new store in another location nearby.
Nice, I'm heading down to Greentop and the Expo tomorrow (Fri.) morning with Flippin4it. I actually took a personal day off from work for this. I have nice chunk of cash saved up for this, which will soon be in the monkey's hands. It feels like Christmas Eve again! ;D
QuoteGander Mountain just opened this summer at the I-95 exit at Elmont on the way to Green Top.
I would not bother with this Gander. I might be spoiled, but it is nowhere near as good as the Winchester VA Store. Not enough freshwater baits, and what they have is pretty much what any other Retail sporting goods store would. Which is understandable with all the brackish inshore waters to the immediate east and south of Richmond.
Just go straight to Green Top.
I went into gander mtn once and wasn't too impressed. Green Top is much better in my opinion. I don't feel as if there is any real price difference between their fishing tackle and stores like Bass Pro and Gander Mtn. Plus their selection and service is much better.
Dropped 3 C notes :'(
d**n buy 3 get 1 free luckycraft deal
Stocked up on minus 1's at Gander Mountian, 1.99 a piece. Bought a couple of Mann's tail draggers at 1.99 also. They also carry a nice selection of rods and keep them together by action, thus compairing rods of same length and action is way easier. My buddy and I were laughing about the Gander Mountian rods, Giving the Shimano Compre a run for the money at half the price. At Greentop, the baitmonkey went deep. I bought Kanami Flash in my favorite color (blk/blue fleck) bought 8 packs @1.99 a pack. Also hooked up on a great Wacky rigging bait made buy JDC Baits called the Bass Bone, I bought 23 packs at .99 cents a shot. I bought terminal tackle, finnesse worms and cranks to the tune of $250.00 in Greentop alone. Bought a E21 Carrot Stix at the show too at a vastly reduced price, that sucker is light! My total spent will never be printed..........LOL, THAT WOULD BE AN ADMISSION OF GUILT.
how much did ya buy the carrot stick for at the show?
$105.00
did you guys check out those Grandt rods at the show? Man they are nice looking. The guy at the booth said they have higher modulus graphite than any other rods on the market. He also said they sell the rods at the show at a 40% discount.
Dominion Dan,I own a Grandt rod. It's a 7'6 flippin stick, it's got a soft tip. But man does it have a back bone. I c-rig, pitch and fish Horny Toads with it. Love them, if you buy a rod from them all your future rods come at a discounted rate too.
That's what the guy was telling me. I was looking at 7'6" flippin stick at the show for a new jig/swimbait/toad rod but it's going to have to wait a little while.
Which rod do you have? I really liked the ones with the feathers in them, but I also liked the black and silver ones with the carbon coatings and titanium guides. I think I'll probably end up getting one of their lower end rods though, because I will probably be buying a casting reel at the same time and I don't want to spend a semester's book money on a new setup.
Dominion Dan,
You can always buy used books at a discount!
I buy them used and I still average between $300 and $400 per semester in books alone!
Dominion Dan,
Do you go to ODU? I dodged bullets around ODU for a few years before I graduated in 1994
Dan, I have the All American Pro Series C76. It's listed as a med/hvy, but it has some serious hook setting power. If we ever can hook up and fish together, you can try it out.
QuoteDominion Dan,Do you go to ODU? I dodged bullets around ODU for a few years before I graduated in 1994
No, I go to JMU, I think SimonSays goes to ODU though, if I am not mistaken.
Flippin, I would like to try it out, I just need to learn how to use a baitcaster first! I still haven't given them any time to learn.
Dominion Dan,
You go to the top rated party school in Virginia.
What do you mean you don't have time to learn how to use a baitcaster?
Time management...
Wake up.
Get cleaned up.
Eat Breakfast.
Throw away all beer cans and bottles from last night's party.
Get lawn chair and watch traffic fly by on I-81.
Eat lunch.
Take a nap after lunch.
Go to your class at 2 PM.
Back to dorm room.
Change into gym clothes to go play some touch football or basketball.
Go to dorm and clean up.
Go to dinner.
Go to local beer store and stock up for party tonight.
Get ice and snacks.
Make sure TV works OK and set it to ESPN.
Friends arrive around 7:30 PM.
Party until midnight.
Go to sleep.
Same thing next day.
Oh, the life of a JMU student.
You can skip your class and learn how to use the baitcaster.
QuoteDominion Dan,You go to the top rated party school in Virginia.
Really? For years and years, that was Radford's claim to fame. When did JMU edge out RU?
(I also went to JMU - graduated in '96. I loved that place!)
LOL Sam! Party till 12? what kind of lame party is that? I'm just kidding. Anyways, what I meant was that it's not that I don't have time to learn the baitcaster, I just haven't put the time and effort into practicing it. I also normally wade fish so I can only take one setup, and since I am fishing smallie rivers, naturally my go to rig is a spinning one because I can do the finesse plastics that I use the most for smallies.
drums, apparently Radford got sick of their reputation and the administration has started to crack down on partying in recent years. JMU has prettier girls as well. Although we also took another top rating from them recently, highest frequency of STDs...
Have you been to Harrisonburg recently, drums? They're changing a lot of stuff. They are building a new library up by ISAT, they are digging a tunnel under Main street to connect the quad to a parking garage on the other side of the street, and also they are building a new arts center on Main street near Anthony-Seeger hall. They also recently bought the old Harrisonburg High School building and turned it into classrooms.
BTW, Drums, do you have any good fishing spots down here in or near Harrisonburg?

Lol, sorry not ODU, but I have the pleasure of dodging bullets in the heart of Richmond at VCU!
I guess we've taken this thread way off topic, huh? :-)
QuoteJMU has prettier girls as well.
True dat. Glad to see some things haven't changed... ;D
QuoteAlthough we also took another top rating from them recently, highest frequency of STDs...
Oh man, that was the other statistic I was thinking of for Radford. Ouch!

Wow, crazy. It's been a good 9 years since I've been on campus. When I was there, the whole ISAT complex was pretty much brand new, along with the major. I started as a music major, then changed to psych, which itself is pretty much a useless degree unless you go the whole nine and get the PhD or PsyD. I remember thinking shortly after I graduated that maybe I should have gone the ISAT route. Now I build web pages at AOL (and have for 8 1/2 years). Go figure, huh?
QuoteBTW, Drums, do you have any good fishing spots down here in or near Harrisonburg?
Oh man, it's been such a long time..but I remember there being a lake really close by that you could easily walk around, as well as rent john boats (and trolling motors too, I think). We fished there a couple times and caught some pretty nice bass. I couldn't begin to tell you where it was or what it was called. But I'm pretty sure it was in Harrisonburg.
My wife dodges the bullets at VCU every day as well. She watched too much CSI and is now working on her Forensic Science Degree! I can't wait to see her put on her makeup a sexy outfit and 3 inch heels to got to work like all the women on CSI!
Radford had the advantage of a high girl to guy ratio which made it a great place to go. Of course you know what ODU stands for.....OverDose University! Have fun in college guys because it beats going to work everyday!
that's right, sorry simonsays, I knew it was one or the other.
tpayneful, JMU also has a high girl:guy ratio, I believe it's 60%-40%
drums, was it maybe Lake Shenandoah? It's the only lake near campus I can think of, and you can rent boats.
Quotedrums, was it maybe Lake Shenandoah? It's the only lake near campus I can think of, and you can rent boats.
Yeah, looking at it on Google maps, I think you're right. Not a very big lake, but we caught a lot of bass. I even caught a pretty nice one (just under 5 lb'er). Pumpkin firetail Zoom 7" worm if I remember it right. They loved that color for some reason. :-)
