Hey Carrington, Are you fishing Big Bass Classic on the lake this weekend? We've been catching a few placed 3 in the Tuesday night touny with 4 fish 10.25lb last week. I didn't fish it tonight its been more like fishing the Tuesday Night Thunder Bolt Classic for the past 3 Tuesdays. Last week we had hail, lighting, rain, wind, tonight I figured we'd have cows, so I thought I'd pass on that fun. We had sat under a boat dock last week for at least an hour dodging storms sucks when toury is only 4 hours. I'm fishing that Big Bass Classic this weekend so I didn't want to stick a hog on my good banks before Saturday .
Been doin well on wacky finesse worms they really seem to like the slow fall. Most come on laydowns toward the backs of coves and creeks.Last time out though was last wed.all of these cold rainy days probably have changed things.
Hey Carrington, how was school this year?
Make the Dean's List???
How did you do on the college fishing team and how did the VATech fishing team do this past year?
Coming home or staying in the Blacksburg area this summer?
Have not been to SML in over a year so I am no help to your query.
Nice to know you caught some on Senkos. Wonder if that is the pattern on the lake?
Have you tried any topwaters?
try pearl colored super flukes and chrome lipless cranks...
im heading down to SML for Memorial Day weekend, but not so much for bass as for catfish this time. usually this time of year at SML i get into a ton of catfish and white perch...
any bass i catch this time of year are usually around the banks, docks, and tree stumps. many of them will swim out from under the dock at my uncles house there and bump my bait out of aggrevation but not try to eat it, wont even open their mouth. this year im thinking stand back on the bank and throw under the dock. i dont get too much time out on his boat, especially since he has a new one that he hasnt even put the trolling motor or electronics on yet. but docks and rocky points will probably be good producers for bass this time of year...
Been catchin' plenty on SML. Up the lake and down the lake.
ill be there this weekend...but on a house boat! Kind of a mini vacation for me ive had planned for a while. Then someone told me about the big tourney this weekend...should be fun trying to navigate a 54footer with 250+ bass boat zinging around!! But i will enjoy sight of seeing them boys chase fish!
Good luck to all this weekend if fishing the T! Ill be casting off top deck of the house boat jus messin around!
ok so i figured out a pattern today. caught 5 for around 15 lbs and each fish came from a different spot so i also have different locations. im going to leave the pattern alone and hope it holds till saturday and i am fishing the weekend series, not the big bass. not really a fan of having to weigh in every hour.
Hope your pattern holds up for you good luck Saturday. In the Big Bass you only weigh in when you have a fish you think will place in top 5 for that hour. You can hold fish in the live well and weigh in whatever hour you want. They send out updates on radio and text mess. keeping you updated through out the hour so you can deside if you want to weigh in that hour.
I wasn't too excited about the Oakley tournament when it was first announced but after talking to a few friends and learning a little more about it, I think I'm going to enter it now. Hopefully they get a full field so the hourly payouts will be what is advertised. But if I heard it correctly, they're giving the boat away whether they have a full field or not. That will make someone's day for sure. Good luck va pred, I'll be in my black Gambler....holler if you see me.

Will do, we'll be in my red and white Javie. They will make the 250 easy I heard people are coming from all around to fish. Just one good bite will put you in a new boat!!!! Good Luck Hope to see you out there!
from what ive heard, they already have over 300 boaters confirmed but i could be wrong

Yeah we sucked it up in the Oackly tourny my best fish was 2.1 go figure I think it would have placed 5 in a couple of the hours. Thursday I hooked a 5 plus and caught a 18 inch Smallie then Saturday and Sunday cant find a fish on none of my spots Really! oh well thats why thay call it fishing I guess.
It was tougher than usual this weekend. Great job Carrington, that's quite an accomplishment. How'd you catch em? (just general info of course, not looking for honeyholes)
i was fishing points and flats with a shallow crankbait
Nice man! Here are the results for those who are interested. http://www.abaproam.com/results/417.pdf

that was the Oakley Big bass tourney that gave out the new boat! There were 2 T's going on this weekend.

There was also at least 2 other club tournaments that I know of in addition to the Oakley and the BWS. The Oakley tournament had around 300 anglers and was a big bass tournament with weigh ins/payouts every hour. The biggest bass of the whole weekend (which was 6.28) won the boat. The BASS Weekend Series was a typical tournament format (anglers + co-anglers) and had 22 boats.

Hey 5bass, The boat went to 2nd place guy JD Perdue 5.54. The guy (Tony Padgett) with 6.28 could not pass the lie detector test he should be banned from tournys on SML. I heard he failed it 4 times he said he was nervous. His wife was his partner in the tourny the tourny Director said if she could past the test to verify he caught the fish he could still win the boat but she refused to take test. So the story I got from Tackle Shop was his buddy caught the bass Saturday night about 1:00 am and gave him the fish to weigh in. Oh and he's the same guy that won the big smallmouth in the Optimus toury this year !!!
Yeah, I just saw somewhere else that he failed the polygraph. Sucks to be him for sure. Congrats to JD. The big fish had lockjaw this past weekend, no doubt. Too bad we couldn't fish the Oakley Tournament at night.
Night would be good cant imagine what the weights would look like .
so is that what all those guys are doing, night fishing for bass?? While on house boat we had 3-4 boats come by us with trolling motors but of course was too dark to see what they were doing. Didnt realize it was so popular!

Night fishing is in my opinion best time bass fish here on SML. Right now its taking 20 lbs to win night tournys and only 10 to 12 during day tournys. After next week the summer boat traffic makes day time fishing tough on the weekends.
Were you all pulling a white boat behind your house boat?
Man i love SML as i caught few nice bass everyday hanging to wood. Not bad from fishing from a anchored house boat I love sight fishing and SML is place to do it! Ontop of that didnt realize all the laydowns / structure the lake has. I think next time i will rent small fishing boat to take out as all i wanted to do whole time was fish!!
no i was not pulling the boat behind...that was a bunch of guys that rented that boat as they pulled in sametime we did sunday. I was on the boat with all the hot women
Oh yea driving the houseboat in middle of the poker run was fun!! Some real nice speed boats rippin down lake!! Felt sorry for the bass guys though

the big yellow speed boat missed me by 4 feet and he was going about 80. i love how the police pull me over for nothing but they dont stop those guys.
Here is a story from today's Roanoke Times about the Oakley Big Bass tournament. Seems the angler with the top fish of the tournament had a tough break but answwered honestly on the polygraph when asked if he violated any game laws. He and his wife had failed to put on their life jacket and kill switch while idiling across a cove with the big motor and their catch was disqualified. http://www.roanoke.com/outdoors/wb/287531

Bull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy was in the tackle store Thursday expressing his opinion about how he was worried someone cheating and how he was concerned about being able to pass the polygraph while taking blood pressure medicine. I don't buy it I heard from 2 seperate sources the same story and neither had anything to do with life jackets! So as far as I'm concerned if he shows up at any tournaments I planning to fish I'll be sure to point him out to tournament directors!!!! Don't have any use for cheaters
heading to SML tomorrow afternoon through monday. work will be slammed and swamped in my department, and no i wont be feeling a bit guilty lol

wow - I hadn't heard all that. I can understand your feelings. I just wanted to point out the article. I fish n a few small clubs and although the life vest isn't a rule I have just always used them so it is just a no brainer with me. We had a club tournament Saturday night out of Penhook and it took 19 pounds and 10 ounces to win and then dropped back to 15 for 2nd. My son and I fished, we only had 3 keepers for 8.89 but did manage the smallmouth lunker at 3.31. We caught 4 stripers as well.
