Hey guys just got a Dobyns savvy 734 and I feel like there is no sensitivity, idk if maybe I got a gen 1 or what, but I think im going to return the rod, so in that price range what would be the most sensitive rod, im not worried about weight why matters to me the most is sensitivity, I hear good things about Duckett but if I go cheaper on a rod say vertias or Carbonlite then I have some more money for tackle!
What kind of line were you using on the Dobyns? If you get braid on it.......the world of sensitivity will come to life. Dobyns seems to be a highly reputable line from the members here so I'd look at the whole puzzle before you just bring it back. I haven't used any Dobyns before so I can only factor in some of the other keys to why you're not getting any feel.
I would recommend a Crucial or Avid, although the Avid maybe slightly higher. You may need to wait for a sale. You can find an old model Crucial (cork version) for below 150, but you should be able to find a newer one for around that price. Also you could always go used if your patient (unlike me) in the flea market.
I can only comment on the Veritas, I used one last year as a jig rod, it is has decent sensitivity. Although I find the newer Shimano Compre to be a little better in that department. Of course this doesn't mean it would be better for you. Compre is also in that price range. I'd recommend getting a hold of these rods before you buy.
falcon bucco micro .
Seems to be rave reviews of the *** *** rod, though I haven't fished one. I have a phenix recon that I paid under $150 for. I feel it is the most sensitive rod I have handled for under $150.

Now how can that be??? Don't you know that every single Dobyns rod is made with a special little bit of magic. I heard it was from the tears of anyone who's hopes and dreams have been crushed by daring to fish against the army of pro-staffers that uses the best brand of fishing rod every bestowed on man.
The new Kistler KLX rod is very sensitive and it is in your price range. I have 2 of them and no complaints at all.

LMAO
Thanks for the replies guys, I am currently using some fluorocarbon line, and it just feels dead to me, the shimano crucial interests me looks like a good rod, as does the avid, im kinda limited to what I can get around here local tackle shops have abu Dobyns and Duckett and then there's bass pro which I don't believe they have Kistler

I have never used a Dobyns, but I am very impressed with the Carbonlite rods that you mentioned, I currently have three of them and I am soon to add more.
How is the sensitivity on them?
Hmmmmm the tackle monkey in me just had an idea, this rod still has a great action and power for other techniques like frogs and buzzbaits( I do love me some frogs) and I don't have a rod for either..... Maybe I should keep this and then get a good rod dedicated to Texas rigs....

There, that makes four....lol
Hootie
13 Fish is the rod de jour, just wish they were made from some vegetable...
yea the *** *** rods are really nice. a lot more sensitive than my veritas and gloomis gl2
Another vote for the falcon bucoo micro rod.
Ugly Stick Lite!! .....just kidding...
Powell Max rods are pretty dang sensitive, but i havent tried everything out there... most of my rods bought in the past 3 years retail a bit more than that ...of course i try not to pay retail...
I have the same savvy 734c and I agree it does feel dead ( I really like my champion extreme though). But I can't complain too much about the savvy because I just caught my pb on it today using it as a spinnerbait rod . But did not like it for texas rigs or bottom contact baits.
I would recommend the powell max for texas rigs in that price range. That is what I use and I love it. Have the 703 and 733. Definately worth the additional money over the veritas in my opinion.
I own a recon 2, ***, crucial, Powell max and I'd say the recon is the most sensitive. That said, I'd recommend the *** because the sensitivity us almost as good but balances better.
the dobyns line is amazing but the savvy is the low end one and does feel fairly sensitive to me but its a dead feeling compared to their high end ones like the champ and champ extremeOn 4/4/2013 at 1:28 AM, MarkH024 said:What kind of line were you using on the Dobyns? U have to order the kistler klx straight from them and it is by far and away best rod in that category. Research them a little, they are getting rave reviews. If u don't want to do that I would actually lean towards a bps carbonlite. Got a couple and they are super senstive especially for the money. I have heard good things about powell never fished one. Duckett feels good in the stores but again never fished one. Another one that doesn't get thrown around a lot is a quantum smoke. Guy I fish with has one and it seems really nice.
thanks for all the responses guys! i think ive narrowed it down to the shimano crucial 7'2 heavy or mh (what would you recommend), carbonlite (dont know what model) or a *** .... tough choice...
I have the new model crucial, 7'2 MH xf tip, its a nice rod, a little more sensitive than my ***. But not by much at all. I TRULY believe you would like the *** the best. The reason i say that is beacuse the balance and weight is ALOT better than the crucial. And i know you said you dont care about the weight or balance, but trust me those two things are a big part of a good fishing rod.Go for a 7'3 MH and enjoy!

Looks like I will be calling gander mountain to see if they have any in stock, so you like it more than the crucial?
Just checked there website and the tallest rod they have is 7'1

Look on Tackle warehouse. They have all the models(6'7-7'11). plus free shipping and excellent customer service. And its very close but, yes i do like it more than my crucial. The sensitivity between the two is identical, but the balance and weight of the *** is better than crucial, so its a winner for me.

Do you know how long the shipping takes? and do you think there would be a major difference between the 7'1 and 7'3, I am going to be passing my gander on my way out if town tomorrow, and was planning to do a tournament this weekend, but if the difference would be noticeable I can wait for the rod also
Where do you live? Tackle warehouse is in california, i live in wa state and it takes 3 days for a rod to get to me. Thats the standard shipping, you can upgrade shipping not sure how much more it is. Not that much i believe.
No theres notuch difference, maybe a little farther casting distance, but not much, and the 7'3 would be better in deep water.. but i think you will be plenty happy with the 7'1
I'm in Florida haha ill check shipping costs, but would 2inches difference mean a lot of Lose in casting distance?
No not at all. Its all about your reel. I have a revo sx on my 7'3 and on my 6'6 and I can cast a 3/8oz jig the same difference with both rods. The 7'1 should be perfect for you. I use my 7'1 for spinnerbaits, and jigs t rigs use about everything with it except cranks.. And I use my 7'3 for deeper water stuff like Carolina rigs, and football heads and spoons. The 7'1 is perfect for skipping baits under docks also. I get that 7'1 you'll love it. When you get to gander Mt, and they might have a 7'3 in stock.. There websites probably wrong when it says the longest rod they carry is a 7'1 when the *** series goes all the way to 7'11 maybe they forgot to put an extra 1 at the end.. Call the store and ask them. I that's what I would do.
which gander are you going to the one in lake mary or the one in ocala?
these are the phone numbers for each store
Lake Mary:(407) 804-0514
Ocala:(352) 351-6186
If you go to American Legacy Fishing you can get the discontinued Shimano Cumara 6'8" MH/XF if you aren't dead set on the 7' length. This would be most sensitive (higher tier) than the standard $150 rods everyone is recommending. For 132 on sale right now, normally retails at 219.
They also have a 7' medium fast available for lighter plastics for 142.
I would be going to lake mary, thanks for the numbers and that sounds like an awesome deal but I like to see my rods before I buy them
And I'll bring the lews tournament pro with me when I go, Ill get the 7'3 if they have it!

Totally understand I hear you about holding one. That is why I haven't pulled a trigger on buying a Phenix Recon 2. They get rave reviews, but I just can't do it without holding one. (Can't find local dealers) Same for the Champion Extreme, I hear great things, but I can't find a local shop that carries them in stock. I did get to hold a Champion and Savvy, but compared to the discontinued Cumara it just didn't compare to me... Good luck though!
Thank you!
