I thought it looked cool, minus the text on it.
Definitely the most gimmicky looking reel I've ever seen.
Reminds me of an old metal clothes hanger

Why does it look gimmicky ??

What's the point of the wire frame? It's just a way for ardent to sell a reel that nobody would interested in buying if it had a normal frame.
It also looks like the reel foot would eventually become loose.

Looks killer , love the way Ardent put a new flair to the design making it standout , as long as it works good like most of their reels , I'm definitely going to buy one !!!
I like the way it looks but performance is what counts. Not a light reel which is ok depending on the rod it's mounted on.

Have any of their reels worked well? My buddy had one that had to be replaced 5 times. Besides they havent kept a model line going long enough to establish a record of reliability
Glad you're happy .. I feel the same way about my exsense ci4
Of all the things to change on a spinning reel to claim innovation, a flimsy looking frame stem isn't the way I'd go myself. It may be perfectly rigid in application, but the look of the design would cause many to gloss right over the entire thing imo.
Wouldn't even consider it. Thanks but no thanks. Looks like they made it out of welding filler rod.
Hootie
I just read an article about "re-branding" fishing reels. It used this reel as an example of re-branding from a Chinese reel...

Being a metal guy, they unfixed a problem that had been fixed long ago because they figured it looked cool haha... Making it out of solid round wire was a bad idea for a lot of reasons. Torque loading, overall weight needed to compensate for lack of structural rigidity and long term durability all come to mind. This reel is more like de-evolution to me- looks cool but doesn't think worth a lick. Would not buy.
Not a chance, single handle knobs are super annoying when you need two hands to set a hook on larger rods, or when you're needing it to control a large fish. Not to mention it looks cheesy and cheap. I'll stick with my reels that work great, and look good.
No more wire hangers!!!!

Not sure I understand this. Do not 99% of spinning reels have a single knob and larger fish are caught with them all the time. Not really remembering any time I've needed to have 2 hands on a rod to set a hook, but if I did I don't see any part of the reel being in my way.
The reel in question, could not comment pro or con until I've used it.
Was looking at the reel last night online.
For me it has an element of "cool" in
terms of looks. Just doesn't float my
boat enough to buy one -- even if it
were made by Shimano
Not for me. Too flashy.
I do like the bobtailed looks of the ultralight Pflueger President line. I do not like the fact that they're made in China.
Currently looking for an UL reel made elsewhere, say the USA, France or Sweden. Probably should check out Abu Garcia for that.
Josh
Well, Hmm, the reel handle and stem appear to have been designed by a individual in a manic depressive state of mind.. A carbon handle, or straight up aluminum, keep a carbon reel stem?Maybe... Performance wise, this company has a poor design history.. I couldn't say anything on performance, but I can't stand the junk yard art!

Good luck.
I dunno man lol
I know my stradic ci4+ is a sexy little thing...especially when the sun hits it and you can see the red flake sparkle in the frame
I like the looks too.
I won't buy one though. .... for no other reason than I have 2 perfectly fine Quantum Incytes that I love - and never use them either. Lol.
Well, in terms of setting yourself apart from the competition in a cosmetic way, yes it definitely does that. Performance, can't judge until I try one. However, I think they went alittle too far in the cosmetics to make me want to buy one to try. From a engineering standpoint, I don't think that wire stem is the best route. Just my opinion though, it may be the greatest spinning reel built but I highly doubt it going off looks alone.
The old green Cardinals are the best looking spinning reels ever .
Abu garcia doesn't make spinning reels in Sweden anymore, let alone an ultra light. On 2/28/2015 at 12:30 AM, Josh Smith said:Not for me. Too flashy.

Well crap. I was hoping they still had a Swedish line, like some of the baitcasters.
Josh
Maybe a decent reel but it reminds of the Wave spinning reel. More gimmicky than usable.

That's true. It doesn't make any difference who or where a reel is made as long as it's made right. I have 4 Abu sorons all made in China, they perform as well as anything else I own. They're smooth on retrieve, never a problem with the drags, and have stood up to saltwater for years, I don't know what else I need a spinning reel to do.

You could go daiwa or shimanoand get one made in japan. I think only the higher end ones though. Or if you dont mind used find a daiwa tournament ss made in japan. Definitely not flashy but will last forever
Well everyone has the right to express their own opinion. That to is not even close for me.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but beyond that, I don't
think the company has any history of producing a high quality
product.
