What does everyone use to flip & pitch jigs? I lost my 7'11'H Rage rod and am about to buy another rod.
I'm thinking about another 7'11'' Rage or a 7'10''HF Legend Tournament but I want to know what everyone else is using.
Dobyn's DX 795 FLIP. Absolutely awesome rod. Über sensitive, perfect power, super light.
Loomis IMX custom FS905 Flippin Stik. It is heaven for pitching jigs.

7' MH Fast. 1/2 - 1 oz football jigs. 50# braid and 15# fluoro leaders.
St.Croix Avif 7' MH/F with 50 # Seagaur Kanzen, mostly dragging footballs
Kistler Mag TS 7' Heavy/Fast
Kistler Argon 7'5" Heavy/Fast
Gloomis Mossy back 7'5 hf
Dobyns Champion 735C, my first Dobyns rod and I can tell you it wont be my last I love this rod!
+1 for the dobyns 735c. i use an allstar 7'6" heavy telescoping as well. not the nicest lookin rod but geez its light, sensitive, and powerful. lookin at gettin a bps carbonlite flippin stick soon.
Dobyns DX745 and DX784.
A jig rod is probably the only technique rod I think that is important, other than that I'm fine with multi purpose rod. The weight of jigging a heavier jig, in my case bucktails and butterflys, will put my back into a world of hurt using an inappropriate rod. I have heavy for spinning and xh for bait casting gear.
I just bought a Loomis BCR875 for punchin. That is what I am using now. I had an opportunity to handle a Loomis FSR904X GL2 last week. When I get the money, I will be getting the IMX version of that rod and it will replace the BCR875 for punchin.
For light duty pitchin, I am using my Loomis MBR 844IMX.

7'3 vendetta MH F .....Also a 7'6 carbonlite Mh F
Pitching: St Croix 7' MH/F, either my Avid or Legend Tournament in that power/length/action. Flipping: St Croix Mojo 7'11" H/MF
Zillion 7'MH/F paired with Zillion reel. Heaven.
7'2 shimano cumara MH/f with patriarch XT.
I have a bunch of options, but so far I have not decided which rod I will use for my jig fishing... Here is what I have to select from:
Dobyns Extreme DX795
Dobyns Extreme DX745
Shimano Cumara CUC-X72MH
Daiwa Zillion 7MHF
St.Croix Legend Elite 70MHF
All can be used as a jig rod at the drop of a hat. Just haven't decided which one I will be using exclusively for jigs, yet...

Depends on the weight of the jig, the cover, and casting room.
Here's what I'll tie a jig to:
GL2 803CJWR
LTBC70MF
LTBC70MHF
AVC70MHF
Deep South 7'6" XXH Flippin' Pitchin'
I primarily use 4 depending on circumstances.
Loomis GLX 853, 854, 855, 875
I just did a search for the deep south rods, how are they? seems like the price is too good to be true
Unbreakable.
I have 2 setups I use with the first being:
6'6" Cabelas XML H/F,Quantum Accurist 501 PT with 50# Cajun Braid
7'11" Quantum Superlite QTC711F(Telescoping Blank), H/F, Quantum Accurist AC101 HPT
(7.0 Burner) with 50# Cajun Braid
Those are my 2 choices and haven't had the 7'11 rod out yet but the Cabelas XML set up works great.

What length/action do you prefer while fishing from a Kayak? I'm having some trouble getting a good hookset (may be dink fish) so I'm going back to braid and going with a long fast heavy rod... Thoughts?
QuoteWhat length/action do you prefer while fishing from a Kayak?
Any. No preference, so long as the rod is suited to the cover. I will say, I don't like monstrous rear grips when I'm sitting.
Duckett 7'6" XH XF, the perfect pitching rod in my opinion.
That's funny, I like a longer grip. I put the butt of the rod to the side of my chest and then set the hook. Some days I go home with marks all over my chest where the metal butt plate of my Veritas has dug into me.
Dobyns DX 744 for footballs
Dobyns DX 745 for heavier cover
Dobyns Champion 736 for straight up nasty stuff
I'm very old school in that I use shorter rods than most but I have used them so much I'm actually pretty good with them. My flipping set up is a custom 7' Shakiri heavy powered fast action blank, paired with a Pflueger Supreme casting reel which is no longer made but it is built like a tank and perfect for flipping. For pitching I use a 6'6" Quantum Superlight PT medium heavy powered fast action with a Quantum Smoke 150, I just switched to that reel last year and it is great for pitching, I can put a 3/8oz jig in a 16oz coffee can from 35' out consistantly.
I have 2 combos I'll fish a jig on:
St Croix Mojo 7'MHF, Daiwa Advantage 150H, 50# braid
St Croix Avid 6'6"MHF, BPS Carbonlite, 30# braid
The mojo also serves as my frog rod, but other than that whichever doesn't have a jig on will usually have a texas rig on.

Hookset problem solved. I tied my fc to a tree and gave it a tug and determined it was made by slinky.
I changed to braid and went fishing and had had no problems with hooksets.
