Curado G Or Curado I 2025

fishing user avatarsenkomaster1998 reply :

witch would be better i need a reel that is going to last

fishing user avatarThe Next KVD reply :

If its a Shimano product its going to last.  I would pick the I series but a lot of the G series reels are on sale for $100.  Can't go wrong either way.

fishing user avatarjbsoonerfan reply :

They will both last you for as long as you need. You will get a better deal on the G series though. I fished the G series last year and they are a good solid reel. However, now that the I series is out the Shimano fanboys will tell you that it is quite possibly the best reel ever made. I haven't held one, but they might be imported from Heaven according to what I hear.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

The I is too new to tell. I'd take a D or E over a G. Nothing wrong with a G, but the E and D are built like tanks.

fishing user avatarTywithay reply :

Wait a few weeks and buy the Curado I at 15% off. It's a far better reel. Either will last as long as you take care of them.

Good advice. Buy the iI at a discount

fishing user avatarWbeadlescomb reply :

I think the I feels good but I really can't tell a difference in my curado g and my chronarch e's. Especially while I am fishing

fishing user avatarfishinthedacks reply :

I got the G on sale at BPS but I was in the frog section BS'ing about frogs and saying I was buying a strict Frog rod/reel combo that day turns out he is a pro and was there with the pro giving fishing demonstrations that day. They both pushed me on the G and said they had tested the I and the difference was 99% color, and a slight SLIGHT change to design. This is only second hand information but even when I told them my limit was slightly more they still persuaded me on the G. I don't fish ant tournaments they do and they actually both had bought up the Right handed 7's that day and some of the 6's and even pulled them out of their stock to show me. If I fished right handed they were even willing to give me a 7 but I had to get a 6 since I'm left handed and bait casters aren't quite as easy to flip as spinner reels IMO. I haven't used either but comfort wise without hitting the water yet my G seems great easy to adjust etc if you can find the G on sale in the right ratio I'd say buy it, and I'm pretty adament about not giving it the thumbs up before I use it but these guys  spent a lot of time pushing me towards the G when they could have pushed me to any other reel up to 250.00

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

On clearance the G is a no brainer.

fishing user avatarFastmover3 reply :

Any reel you buy will last with good maint. Curado I gets the nod here,or a new scorpion.

fishing user avatarmjseverson24 reply :

i would go with the G on sale, similar performance at 60% the cost...

Mitch

fishing user avatardown4ttown reply :

Um I can't believe this...Go with the I! Much better technology and worlds better than the G and really puts the E to shame.

Hum..where are you guys seeing such a deal? Only at local store level?

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

The big sale was last weekend at BPS. Just be patient and a deal will pop up.

fishing user avatarBrian Needham reply :

I dont know Shimano's line but I borrowed 00 mod mid crankin set up for the last 2 days and it was a great reel throwing dt10s.... smooth and chunked it a good ways

it was a curado 200e5... I dont know how it compares to the reels you listed to ask about, but the one I listed was pretty nice

fishing user avatarTartan34 reply :

BPS in Orlando still has a load of Gs at 99. I just left with a G7.

fishing user avatarjhoffman reply :

anyone ever open a g series and see it missing a anti-reverse pawl? my buddy was cleaning a brand new one out of the box yesterday and it had no pawl for the anti-reverse gear. the only antireverse was relient on the roller clutch.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Nope, but I've had people request I remove it.

Shimano must have deemed it unnecessary. People take them out with no issues so why not save a little money and not put it in to begin with.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I just did a dozen or so G reels, and they all had the pawl. It's sort of like an insurance policy against slippage.

fishing user avatarQUAKEnSHAKE reply :

Another person on TT asked the same ? about a G  and got this reply

The pawl was removed as part of a running change that was done.

fishing user avatarjhoffman reply :

were they new? he had one that was over a year old, and the one that didnt have it, was days old.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

These were from last year.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

These were from last year.

fishing user avatarjhoffman reply :

I never knew guys took them out on purpose. Its amazing that clutch(ar bearing) can hold that back. What would be the purpose of removing it completely from one??

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

An AR bearing holds it without a pawl on just about EVERY other reel on the market, the past 20 years. Removing it can make the person that removed it think it works smoother.

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

Curado I ....it's really awesome so far

CuradoD or E or chronarch E that said if you are

On a tight budget then aG I guess it's solid most

Users say so... I don't like it or own one but it may work out for you.

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

G = clearance pricing, stupid easy braking system (set&forget)

I = retail, wide braking adjustment that can be finicky

I must have got a bad I then, because mine's not finicky at all.

SVS is when your changing lures with weight and profile differences. VBS is an easier system.

I've thrown from 1/4oz to 3/4oz with the Curado I and haven't needed to change the brakes, just a slight turn of the spool tension. It's as easy to use as any other system I've used.

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

While pitching a 5" senko into the wind... With serious gust to 25 mph I was still getting 60' Curado I is so far a amazing reel..initial setting 2 brakes on... Adjustment dial at 1 ... 3 maybe 4 loose coils... Bumped adjustment dial from 1 to 3 no more loose coils... It's a long distance caster too.... 3/4 oz on heavy 7'6" loomis I was able to get 200 feet over and over and over. It's casting ability competes head to head with my CTE200GT... So far.. I really love this reel. Center clutch is super nice... You get a lot of reel at 179.99

No bb flush either... I won't even bother till warranty expires. I will be looking for a lefty before long!

That the thing with Shimano, set it and forget it. If you are only using one rig for

everything, small adjustment may be needed, but for the most part, one and done!
