hello, i used the shimano spirex last year and i like it, but i hate when i set the hook there is no instant lock because of the quickfire system what reel does everone use that is as good as the spirex but doesnt have the quickfire. thanks
I had a Spirex but gave it away because it was heavy as a brick.
I'm and Abu Garcia fan and like their spinning reels. But the new line of Shimanos are nice. Look at the new Symetre. It's a nice reel.
In that price range , the pflueger president is a better reel. JMHO
I only have Shimano spinning reels and none of them are quick fire. The Sahara is a decent reel but the Symmetry is better.
my favorite is the shimano stradic (probably because i havent tried the more expensive shimanos)
i think symetre or sahara are the best bang for your buck. both are great reels for the money.
I'm not big on spinning reels but ever since I got a few Pflueger Presidents, it's hard not to fish with them each weekend.
Gotta go with the Pflueger
Hard to beat a Pflueger President or a Shimano Symetre for the value.
FA....LOO....GUR!!!! Pflueger President in particular. Good value, good reel, good price!!! Trion is a good one too if you want to keep the price down. $40 vs. $60 is how those two compare.

Dollar for dollar, they're pretty hard to beat. They're even harder to beat if you do a little shopping around and find last year's models on clearance.
I would have to say my shimano sustain 1000FE. The reel is awsome. i like it better then my shimano stella fb. i think the newer reels with the propulsion-line management system are amazing.
quantum incyte.
i dont like the sahara.... i dont get why others do.... :-/
Shimano Symetre. I haven't tried the new ones, but am still on the lookout for some old models on extreme closeout pricing. The old ones can take a beating
I like the Pflueger President and the Johnny Morris Signature spinning reel.
Later,
I have three Symetre reels and am very pleased. It is hard to imagine a better reel for the money.
Shimano Stella 3000. My favorite and only spinning reel. It's the same size as the 2500, but has a deeper spool. I call that extra line capacity "insurance".

Do you think that people could be saying the same thing about your favorite reel ?
I prefer the Daiwa spinning reels. I'm currently using the Capricorn 2500 for my spinning rod applications. The Shimano's are nice, like the mentioned Symetre and Sahara lines.
But I feel the Daiwa's drag outperforms the Shimano. It's been a few years since I've bought a spinning reel, so I'd probably look at all of em and go from there.

yeah... they probably are.
right now my favorite spinning setup is a Quantum Catalyst PT30 and a 6'6"med Quantum Tour Edition rod. I prefer Quantum reels over the rest.
Very smooth.
Shimano Sahara
Daiwa Tierra 2000
Just bought another Symetre over lunch today. For $50 it was VERY hard not to buy all three that they had on the shelf.
I also have a president and prefer the symetre so much so that the president will more than likely now be retired.
However, the new symetre's are in a different price range so the comparison isn't really valid anymore. If you can find last year's models of symetre's then I'd buy as many as you can find a use for.
Thanks for all of your opinions everyone, i have narrowed it down to 2 reels, the symetre and the stradic 2500 mgfb, i just have to do a little more research on both, but right now i am leaning to the stradic, again thank you for all youre opinions
Forget the other floogers mentioned, get a MEDALIST. I got the one that holds a whole bunch of 10#. 10 bearings for $80. Silky smooth, far casting, I really like it.

I got my hands on a "new" Sahara about a week or 10 days ago (as well as an old one, and a Symetre both deeply discounted). That new Sahara (for $79) compares favorably to the old Stradics, in my opinion. Having not used the newer models, I cant really comment. I fish river smallies more often than not and, I'm not a big fan of the fact that the 1500 series size is gone now.
Look at the Daiwa Exceller too, for $70 or whatever, might be the most bang for your buck out there!

x2
the big problem is I don't have a favorite. That creates baitmonkey issues big time.
I've got
Pflueger Medalists x 2
Gander Medalist knockoff x 2
Shimano Symetre
I like them all. I do favor the Medalist and the President a little but I have no particular reason to do so
Shimano Stradic
Quantum Kinetic for me.

I would go with the Stradic 2500 FI, awarded ICAST "Best In Class".
8-)
Shimano Sustain new design is sick.... ;D or any shimano u can afford
