Hey guys i was thinking about getting a few mojo rods.I was looking at the 7' and 7'6" rods. What would you compare these rods to? Would you compare them to shimano crucials or powells?
Thanks for your help Chris.
Neither, they are basically the same rod as the St. Croix Premiere only with split grips....
Tight Lines!!!!
IMO..... that 7'6 mojo in mh is one of the heaviest most unbalanced rods i ever held. i bought a falcon instead. but i absolutley LOVE the 7' mojo
I have the 7'11" mojo fro flipping and pitching adn I love it

what RM said.
ive put a few hours in on the MOJO rod i have getting the grip to feel like im not going to drop the rod when im making longer casts. the rod its self i like, the grips not so much.
For the price, you cannot find a better rod. They are lighter, more sensitive than other rods in the price range. The only upgrade to these rods would be Fuji Guides. I picked up the spinnerbait rod and absolutely love it. Planning on buying these for all my rigs. Only problem is that I cannot find them, all the stores sell out as soon as they get them in stock!

They could benefit from better blanks also but I agree, they do seem to be the best value in that price range (although the Premier isn't bad either considering its basically the same rod but without the weird purple color or split grips)

totally agree. i shopped around A LOT when i bought my last rod and for the price i really feel like i got the best possible rod.
I have a 6'6"M, 7 MHF, and just bought a 7' MHM today. They are great rods for the money.
Got the 6'6" topwater/jerk bait rod and love it. Use it for just about everything now. Really like it it's light weight and action and think its a great rod for the money.
i got one a 7' mh casting and i cant really tell the difference between it or my tourny legends.good rod for 90 bucks, that my tourny and carrot stick are among my favs,if your still shopping around i just snagged some of the new okuma c3 carbon rods there $150 look amazing and have a split grip but instead of cork or eva they got some carbon fiber that when wet it feels like tacky silk in your hands feels neat and betters your grip and they got a lifetime warranty.but anywho good luck on your choice.
I just ordered the 7'0" med/fast casting rod from Tackle Warehouse, no shipping charges, and they have a 15% off Memorial Day sale---Mojo for $76! Can't wait, unfortunately the rod's out of stock until June 10th or so.

Thanks for the Tackle Warehouse tip.
I also bought one for $76, but these rods are now on backorder until July 8. I spoke to a guy at TW and he said that St Croix didn't really expect a rod with a price point sub $100 to sell so well. He said St Croix is struggling to keep up with demand. Additionally, the TW guy said that he'd expect a bunch of new alternatives from other manufacturers in the very near future to be competitive with the Mojo at the sub $100 price point.
hmmm a loomis for 90 bucks...that would be pretty sweeeeet!!!
Quotehmmm a loomis for 90 bucks...that would be pretty sweeeeet!!!
why? chances are that it would have the same type of low-mid range blanks and components that the Mojo has...

or just lower the price of a GL2
Just picked up another Mojo Bass Rod, 7' Med Fast Action for fishing my Rage Tails! Can't Wait to use her!

so what it would make it so that your average middle man or person who cant afford much with this economy atleast be able to hold onto and fish with a top brand and be able to say they own one (might not mean anything to you or be crap/garbage to you) but to that guy it would be gold...nuff said!!!!
I don't really get it...unless the status of owning a G. Loomis label means more than the quality that G. Loomis is. It wouldn't be the same status if it was accessible to anyone with $100. There are PLENTY of EXCELLENT rods at the $100 price point, some are made by some big name brands. Just get the best gear that you can afford, and make sure it feels comfortable to you. Don't ignore things like brand, especially when it comes to warranty, but don't count the name as your #1 motivation to buy.QuoteQuoteQuotehmmm a loomis for 90 bucks...that would be pretty sweeeeet!!!why? chances are that it would have the same type of low-mid range blanks and components that the Mojo has...

didnt meant it to be a label or anything ya know just some guys would love to have a loomis or st.croix and will never have a chance to due to prices but with lower models it can be possible i mean add 50 bucks to that 100 and you can get a carrot stick one of the fastest growing most popular rods out there these days that everyone is raving about and is giving the 300 rods a run for their money i love that rod over all my other higher end rods.
If you're going to go to the $150 mark, save for two more weeks, and get a St. Croix Avid.
it sits in my corner collecting dust due to the carrot stick now haha.

And a few more weeks and you get a IMX and then a few more and eventually your at a GLX. Its like the drinks at 7/11, well the small is 50 cents, but a medium is only 60 cents, and a large is only 70 cents, and the X Large is 80 cents. Until you're at the big gulp for $1.29. They getcha everytime. I started looking at Mojo bass, then looked at Carrot Sticks and then Settled on my Avid. I am sure if my bank account wasnt running dry I would at least have an IMX.

but why do they want the "top brands"? Because they have a reputation that goes with them. But if those top brands started selling rods like the ones that every other company makes, they be more accessible to more anglers but they also quickly lose that reputation and become like every other company, thus defeating the whole purpose...
The more read this sight the more lower middle class i feel. I am beginning to think I am one of the few people on this forum that doesn't have a six figure salary. Thank you to roadwarrior for sugesting a house brand rod to go with the symmetre in a recent post, that makes me feel a little better.
thats what im tryn to say be happy with what ya got and for those that can get it,ok heres a cookie.i was just saying by some big top brands maken a subpar price tag rod it would make "some" people happy, besides sooner or later theyre gonna have to with this awesome econmy we got going on.sooner or later we might all be using a stick and string so be glad haha.

Check out the new Falcon Bucoo. Very similar to the Mojo, but with better guides.

We had a Mfg.Rep Expo here last month..I talked to the St. Croix rep as I was interested in some Mojo roads.....
Now he told me they are very close to a AVID series..the blanks are made on a Avid mandrel..just that the guides are different...
I bought 2 that day as it was 25% off St.Croix rods...plus you got a tackle binder bag...and a nice cooler...and hats...lol...
now after fishing them I really like them....as good as my Avids and just under my tourney's...all in all I bought 5 Mojo's and glad I did...

I'm sorry but you can pick up a Mojo and an Avid in a store and tell they are quite different, even without fishing them...Are you sure he didn't say the Mojos are basically the same as the Premiers? Because that would be accurate with everything I've read.
The Premiers and Mojos use SCII blanks and the Avids use SCIII

As Reel Mechanic said, neither. They are built on the St Croix Premiere line of blanks. The Crucials, don't know about the Powells but they are built on better blanks and I know the Crucial includes Fuji Alconite guides where the Mojo uses the Batson guides. That is a huge difference just in itself.

If a tech told you it was built on an Avid Mandrel, then he did his job and got you to buy..
The Mojo isn't built with the Avid Mandrel or with the IPC technology...
They are nowhere near the Legend Tourney or the Avids......
The rods are produced with the SC2 graphite, Batson Forecast hard aluminum-oxide guides..
Just talked with St.Croix this week ordering some Avid UL spinning blanks to build up...
St.Croix is even hurrying the construction of the plant in Mexico to help with the demand for the Mojo..
Remember the "Made In North America" decal, well that's why...
Good rod anyway you look at it for now (well see what they are like when the country of origin changes), if it is what you can afford and feels good in your hands, then buy......
Just the rantings of a old rod builder that uses St.Croix blanks exclusively..
Tight Lines!!!
there is no comparison between the mojo and the shimano crucial...the crucial is a way better rod...they are way more sensitive and have better components...awesome rods...the mojo has a really junky reel seat/and the part that holds the reel to the rod is plastic...yuck!!the mojo i have is ok..i was kinda dissapointed with it..they are nothing special...decent for the money i guess..but if i was looking for a rod in that price range i would get a shimano compre or the falcon...maybe i am biased but the shimano rods are the best for the money in my opinion..
