Chronarch Ci4 2025

fishing user avatarBradGuenette reply :

Was talking to my Shimano rep and he was mentioning that Shimano has a few new things coming. First is a Chronarch CI4 baitcaster. An in between reel prices between the chronarch & core, coming in at $280. He also mentioned that a stradic CI4 with x-ship is coming!

Good to see shimano changing things up in 2013

Interesting...Wont be buying any reels for a while but we shall see how that goes

fishing user avatariabass8 reply :

Isn't the ci4 /w xship called the rarenium(sp?). I think it's offered in europe or someplace. It would be great for it to come to the US. It's a nice looking reel.

fishing user avatarTNBassin' reply :

Figures. I just bought a chronarch e6.

It will be a good year before we see them though.  Also the E6 has been out for a few years now and has proven itself. I'm not dumping all of mine for the new ones for some time. I went through hell trying to find something that works lol

fishing user avatarTNBassin' reply :

Me too lol. Every REVO I owned has been swapped out at least once. I will say that the Chronarch feels much better made than the Revos, but it could be because it's heavier lol.

I considered trying my first Abu Garcia Revo BC, until I read your issues.  I was going to pull a trigger on a S that was on sale locally at $84.99.  Thanks for that!  Instead I spent the money on 2 Chronarch 50Mg.

fishing user avatarTNBassin' reply :

It's a great reel, don't get me wrong. I enjoyed fishing with it, but there was always some issue popping up with it. My first STX felt like it was bound up, so I swapped it and it's flawless. My first SX had an issue with the spool not engaging after a cast, a swap later it's flawless. Had I swapped my S, it would've been 3 times and that's absurd. Got a Chrony instead. I kinda miss my S though.

Some people are in a hurry for an answer and don't take the time to post in the right forum. It happens.

I will be buying both when they come out  :respect-059:

Im excited about the chronarch, not so much about the ci4, i feel like the new ci4 will basically be a sustain fg, not much of a difference besides rapid fire drag and x-ship.

You're right, but seems to me, if you are in a hurry, posting in the right forum would get faster results. But then again, I'm using my brain...lol

I own E5,6,7 and a 2500 Ci4. On that note if I was going to be upgrading anytime soon I'd be all over them. May end up just grabbing 1 chronarch.

You said it!! I'll be loading up on the E series Chronarch's if the price is right. I LOVE my E series Citica's & Curado's and was already planning to add a Chronarch E in the 5 ratio for deep cranks so this new model might just come at the exact right time for me. I'm not all that caught up in the "latest & greatest" anymore so I won't mind fishing with "outdated" reels. I'm sure the new Chronarch will be fantastic (and I might just have to pick one up depending on their price) but as I already stated I love the E series reels so my feelings won't be hurt at all to grab 5 or 6 at half price :wink2: .

fishing user avatardown4ttown reply :

What is the typical discount for an outgoing model like the Chronarch E? I would love to have several of them!

I would think it would go down further as the year progresses, especially when the new ones start showing up..late fall I would think.  I've seen the Ci4 go on sale lately.  I have a feeling though the Chronarch E series isn't going away though.  The CI4 version will probably be a line of it's own, higher tier than the standard Chronarch.

I highly doubt the Chronarch E will be discontinued.  The controversy generated by the Curado G/Chronarch E introduction would be nothing compared with the firestorm Shimano would get by cutting the Chronarch E at this point.  Though what they should do is go back to calling it a Curado and give the Curado G a different name.

Word on the street is the Chronarch Ci4 will come in around $250.  If that's the case, there's no reason at all to get rid of the $200 Chronarch/Curado E.

fishing user avatarBradGuenette reply :

Agreed i highly doubt that Shimano will do away with the Chronarch E-series. The new ci4 chronarch is more of a new addition to the line up rather then a replacement.

Yeah, it's not like shimano has discontinued any really popular Curado or Chronarch models before  :laugh5:

Point taken, but that would leave a gaping hole in Shimano's baitcast reel lineup at the $200 price point.  Unless they already have a replacement on the way, but they just did that last year.

According to every Shimano insider I've heard on the subject, the Chronarch D never sold well until it was discontinued.  Same with the Curado D, I believe.  Then after the announcements were made, people started complaining about how great the reels were and what a bad move it was to discontinue them.

And when they discontinued the Curado B series (possibly their most popular casting reel ever) It left a big gap between the Citica and Chronarch (almost a $100 difference). I'm not saying I think they'll do away with the Chronarch E this year but if Shimano's past is any indicator if you really like the Chronarch E better get them while you can.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

It is quite possible that the Citica and Curado G's along with the Chronarch E were only meant to be around for 2 years. I mean, none of them are new. All 3 are rehashed reels built on existing frames, just given new paint jobs, names and frame material in the case of the G reels. I could see them doing that to buy some time until they actually had something new to bring out. Especially after they saw the reception that the repainted reels received.

That would be the best part of this introduction,,,,,I really have no use for more reels and if I did they would have the Aluminum frames!! With that said,,, don't be expecting the price to drop on the E series anytime soon, I would think you will see them bring a premium with others fearing Shimano's famed extinction of well proven reels,,,,,I agree with others, look for them to be gone in a couple years. It is the new era of plastics and composites,,,,,,,, :sad-012:

fishing user avatarWar Eagle 44 reply :

All I was going by was how Shimano did things in the past, big price drops for reels being replaced. I like the way Shimano makes most of their reels now as well, so I'm not to overly fond of the idea of no more "metal" framed reels either. Guess we'll all have to just wait and see???
