what is the deal with the steez? 2025

fishing user avatarford_man reply :

does anybody know why the steez is so expensive? is it even worth the money? :-/

fishing user avatarJimzee reply :

Pick one up and you'll know what the deal is. :o  They are worth every penny if you like to use enthusiast tackle.   ::)

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

it's a great reel but honestly it costs that much because we are stupid enough to pay for it.pflueger could make the same reel at 1/4 the price.

That would be awsome.  If I could find a sub 6oz quality reel for $100, I would buy several.  I really want a reel like this, but I can't pull the trigger on a 50mg, Steez or Pixy.  These are the only reels with this description of which I am aware.  Any others?

Forgot about the Presso, but still out of my budget.  Thanks.

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

they make the supreme spinning magnesium frame for $99.why not take a 7.8 oz summit and give it a mag frame.get it down around 6 oz for $179.

fishing user avatarBassassasin12 reply :

I think all this light stuff is over rated. pretty soon people are going to be fishing with toothpics because it weighs .10 of an ounce.

If it's a magnesium toothpick with 10 ball bearings, I'm in.

With all due respect dodgeguy but that is one of the dummest statements I've ever seen you post.

It's like saying a Lexus costs what it does because we are stupid enough to pay for it.

Somethings are more than merely functional.  They are refined, elegant, and take the state of the art to a new level.

This costs money.  Lots of money. The R&D and innovation is timely and costly.  Copying what another has invented is easier and cheaper.  But the imitators, are just that.........wannabe's.  And they always fall short.

If pflueger could make the same the same reel at 1/4 the price, then they would.

Can't afford it?..........Most can't.

Refuse to pay that much for a fishing reel?   Understandable.

Calling those who can and do stupid?..............................Is stupid.

Product advancement occurs because there are those who appreciate innovative excellence.

If everyone thought like you, we'd all still be fishing zebco 33's

Hey Avid. Why don't you tell us how you really feel? :o Your post looks very similar to the one I first composed as a reply to Dodgeguy. I elected to erase my compostion and post the statement above with my tongue firmly in my cheek.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

More modern than a limited edition TDZ

Same features as a limited edition TDZ ( type R+ rotor )

Extra features not found in a limited edition TDZ ( wet drag system, further lightened spool )

Readily available ( you can find it almost everywhere ) not like a limited edition TDZ ( only available in Japan or through a specialized dealer )

Lighter than a limited edition TDZ ( 0.4 ounces less )

CHEAPER than a limited edition TDZ, heck, it 's well worth taking a good look at it.

+1

All the R&D in the Steez will be readily available in reels that cost $150-$200 if you are willing to wait several years :o.

avid,i'm not saying i wouldn't buy one if i could.but when i look at myself in the mirror i would have to admit to myself it was fairly ridiculous as far as what it costs.i would enjoy using it in the hope it would make up for the 4 $ i spent.as far as quality goes i know a very good machinest who will tell you that diawa's metals are not as good as you would think in a lot of areas.i could not tell you where but he could.he's the expert in that feild and i'm not.so contrary to popular belief more $ is not always more quality.anyway please forgive me if i say things you think are stupid at times.

Wow! I fish what with a I can afford. If another of my friends has worked his life out and can afford something a lot more expensive than me IM HAPPY FOR THE GUY! This is not a mark of intellegence or makes one guy better than the next. It's shear joy for me to see a grown man happy as a kid on Christmas when they get thier dream tackle WHY ALL THE HOSTILITY OVER IT.

I drive a 1993 Duster with a broken tail light and a torn head liner it has a 150,000 miles on it And when Ron came home with his new Scion i think i was happier than him. When Redlinerrobert is showing his latest purchase hes as happy as me when i got my Trion AINT NOBODIES BUSSINESS BUT THEIR OMN I see from Avid,Raul,RW and Redliner that they love thier stuff and not one of these men is close to being stupid  GEEZZZ!!!! :-/

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

Muddy and Avid,

Your comments were right on. I buy Steez rods and reels because I appreciate the technology behind them. Can a rod or reel that costs half as much accomplish the same? Absolutely. Can a Honda Accord get you from point A to B just like a Lamborghini? Yes. The difference in my opinion, lies with one simple word.

Preferance.

Dodgeguy,

You are entitled to your opinion. But your comment that someone is "stupid" for buying a $500 reel was probably not thought out very well....

fishing user avatarCephkiller reply :

I would like to give Dodgeguy credit for stopping the madness.  After Avid and I responded less than favorably to his "stupid" post, he was quite diplomatic in his subsequent posts.  It could have easily gotten ugly.  Thanks, Dodgeguy.

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

o.k.,maybe stupid was a bad choice of words.i apoligize if anybody was offended.

Shi....my 7 year old daughter outfished me the other day with her $10 zebco combo over my TD Z / Loomis combo.  1 bass daughter (+ gary yamamoto, dual tail grub ) - 0 bass daddy (+ senko).  She loved that, let me tell ya ..... (it was windy, just fished an hour ... excuses, excuses)

And she may outfish me again when I get a Steez combo this summer ....  :-[

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Not to rain on your party Capt but ...... she 's a better fisherperson than you so quit and give your expensive gear to her, she 'll put that gear into better use.  ;D

fishing user avatarCephkiller reply :

You are so welcome.  I was hoping you would take it in the spirit it was intended.

fishing user avatarGAMEOVER reply :

Deffinatly worth the money, I baught mine for 320.00 with it being used under 10 times. I highly recommend looking for "like-new" ones. It saves you money and you get it pretty much new. Im wanting to throw one on all of my next planned rod purchases but plan to buy them how I baught this one. Used but mint.
