Hey guys when I was at BPS I picked up some reel magic. I have all ready cleaned and lubed my reels for the season. My concerns and questions are will it be too much to add the magic on top of the lube I all ready put on.
I also read on the bottel the it prevents line memory, protects the line and increases casting disatnce. Is this acurate info?
So if I apply it to the line how do I do it? Just spray it on once the line is in the spool? The bottle also say you can put it on the guide.
I spray it on the line levelwind and guides.
Put it anywhere you want except inside the reel. It is not a reel lubricant. It is silicone and too thin to do any good for a reel. Does your can say REEL magic or REAL magic?
I use it on braid and mono. I just spray it on the spooled line. It helps mono cast in cold weather and makes braid quiet.

I'm not sure if it says reel or real magic. Why do you ask? I will check later. So you can't put this in the reel? I thought you could.
It's marketed as a "line conditioner" to reduce memory and allow
for smoother casting. It's basically nothing more than a silicone
spray which washes off over a short period of time. Next time try
KVD Line & Lure Conditioner.

O yea I just seen that on the sponsors page that you sent me.
I know it has to work though b/c I got a reel that was lubed with reel magic and it worked great. Maybe I' wrong.

Hey John: We talked about this already. I use it to keep the outside of my reels clean and I never use it on the line. I strip my reels frequently and change line at least every 3 weeks during the season. It is for the reels.
As for line conditioner, I have never experienced a "condtion" that my line has that needs anykind of treatment. I tried the KVD, out of curiosity, much ado about nothing, and another way to spend money for no noticible benifits

Ok Mook I was mistaken Thanx. So I just wipe down the outside and it will do just fine then?
I am sure that will reduce friction as well correct?
I never put it on the line, saw no benefits . I like it because the propellant seems to help clean gunk off the pawl and knobs, you still have to put a drop of reel oil after you clean the reel with it,
I like the fact when the propellant dissipates your reel is left with a thin coating of silicone, my reels have seemed to stay cleaner using this over the last 3 seasons. It does nothing for the inner mechanism of the reel. The reel does feel slicker immediately after use, because the handles, spool and pawl have a thin layer of silicone, but it wears away fast, you still should put a bit of reel oil and or grease as per manufacturer's instructions.

Wow!
That seems pretty harsh. Although KVD Line & Lure Conditioner is
a sponsor, I am not beholding to them or any others. So with that
said, I strongly suggest trying the treatment. I find that KVD reduces
memory, making all lines more manageable. This product also
reduces backlash and makes them easier to untangle. Casting
distance may be improved, but that feature is not noticeable to me.
Technically, KVD Line & Lure Conditioner forms a molecular bond
with the line. The product does not was off. Finally, this conditioner
is water based and environmentally friendly.

Ok I see now

I agree I seen tremondous benefits, I even spray on as I respool. Seems to get a more even lay during re-spooling. I have used both Blakemore and KVD. Both are good. KVD seems to last a bit longer.
I don't cast more than 40 yards at a given target. The amount of memory inherent in the mono I have used for years in no way affects anything in this range. I used it, didn't make a difference one way or the other, so I will not be using any line conditioner, I see no need for them
This is an interesting discussion. I just bought some KVD line and lure conditioner to try it out. I was hoping it would make a big difference with fluorocarbon and hybrid line coiling. I was going to try it on regular monofilament also.
Hey Fellas; I am not trying to stir things, nor discourage people from buying a reputable sponsors product. It is just my experience with ALL conditioners and I used this one also to see if nay noticeable benefits and have come to the conclusion that for me it is not worth the bother.

I see nothing wrong with your posts, Dom. Thanks for the info. I've used Reel Magic before, but after reading some of the anecdotal comments on the KVD stuff I finally decided to try it.

I also haven't noticed a significant casting increase, but that is probably because I typically don't try and rocket eveything as far as possible. Anyways, the big benefit that I've noticed with the conditioner is the increased life of the mono. I'm able to go MUCH longer between needing to change my line. This alone has more than made up for the added cost of the conditioner.
It also significantly helps with coiling. Dom may be fine with some coiling, but I prefer next to none and get that with the L&L.
It's a great product.

Muddy,
Did you "pre-treat" your line with Line & Lure or just spray and cast? If you did not pre-treat your line and let dry you only experienced about 10% of what Line & Lure can do for your line. I suggest you give it another try by applying it to your filler spools to protect and condition them while they're in storage. Retreat while you reline your reels. Bottom line; treating your line the night before fishing and after an outing will make a huge difference in the way your line handles. Once you have a good initial coat on your line you can "tune up your line while on the water as you need. I think you will see a marked benefit. Line & Lure will also add a protective coating to your reel frame and rod. This adds a high sun screen, corrosion and wear protection to your gear.

I see what muddy is saying, and I know that on the lighter lines you see much less benefit. I know he's not using #17 XT so he's not having "trouble" that needs fixing. He is ahead of most, he's found a combination of line and equipment that agrees with his fishing and casting style and doesn't need to further tame the line.
It's kind of like adding 100 horsepower to a downtown commuter car. It might be faster but while doing 20mph on the highway, or sitting in rush hour traffic, you don't actually get anything more out of it.
Reel magic works great as an arrow lube! Makes an arrow come out of a 3D archery target much easier.
Also good for Locks ( combo and key) you keep outdoors, squeaky hinges on trolling motors, anything you would use 3 in one in almost however it is silicone and not oil 8-)
Reel Magic (silicone spray) is a superior lubricant when compared to KVD. However, a water based line conditioner can penetrate your line and actually 'condition' it. Silicone spray will just wash off your line. I use both silicone spray and a water based line conditioner. Both have their uses.
FYI....my main use for reel magic is on my black foam rod handles. Nothing works better IMHO>
Natural, whats it do for the foam??
OK so I am getting a little lost now guys. From what I hear in the debate is the benefits it has for line. I didn't buy it for the line conditioning I bought it for a lube, cleaner, and sealer. So My concerns are if my reels are cleaned and lubed then why did I buy this stuff? By wiping down my reel with the magic like you would with oil on a rifle what benefits does this give me.
I am now interested in testing it out as a conditioner. So I need to apply it to the line as I spool it? That is the corect way rite?
I want to care for my reels the best I can so they treat me good and last. DOES THIS STUFF WORK FOR THAT PURPOSE????????
No.
Reel Magic is a silicone spray, nothing more. You can use it as a line
conditioner or to clean and shine the OUTSIDE of your reel. This
should NOT be used as a substitute for oil and grease.

Line conditioner.....med hot tap water will do the same
Reel magic............saw no real benefit
Lube.....................corrosion x or corrosion block, nothing better
Beware using it on shimano, your warranty will be
voided, even though it's superior to their oil.
A shimano authorized service center turned me
on to it.
Use KVD Lure and Line Conditioner.
You will not be disappointed.
QuoteNatural, whats it do for the foam??
After every trip I'll wipe off my foam handles with a wet rag, and after they dry, I'll spray them down with reel magic. The silicone really rejuvenates the foam, and is a great UV protectant. It seems to penetrate the foam and turn it back to a deep black....like it was when it was new. It isn't greasy or slick at all. I highly recommend it if you have foam handles on your rods.
QuoteUse KVD Lure and Line Conditioner. You will not be disappointed.
There is a good possibility that you will be disappointed John. I used it for 4 weeks, Sprayed my line, on the reels every night when I got home and used it the next day. The product was used on 4 rods all with Mono less than 15 lb test, same as you John, using same brand mono.Other than you being new to bait casting is that mono really giving you any issues?
The mono I used gives me no problems that need any conditioning , I used the product for a month and for me no major benefits for the equipment i was using, I cant speak for other types of lines and other tests of mono.
QuoteI want to care for my reels the best I can so they treat me good and last. DOES THIS STUFF WORK FOR THAT PURPOSE????????
It is of no benefit to your reels. Blakemore named it REEL magic in the beginning. Lots of people tried to use it as a reel lube. It didn't work and that is why it is now called REAL magic but few people even notice that they have changed its name.
Just get you some good reel gear grease and reel oil. That is all you need.
I recognize a difference in performance using Reel Magic. It seems to help reduce twist and memory. Going to try KVD LLC this year.
I apply it by spraying some in a small area of a rag. As I spool my reel, I have the rag in hand and hold the line so that it passes over the conditioner I've applied to the rag. I'll pinch it between my fingers. I'll then spray some on the full spool as desired. Hope that makes sense. I've read articles like this one that do a fine job of explaining. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/bassmaster/fishingtips/news/story?page=b_ike_lineselection_July_08
I do the same as FatBass does with KVD Line and Lure when spooling fresh line. It works very well. The biggest benefit from L&L for me is on my larger pound diameter mono lines (15lb up), flurocarbon (necessity here!), and anything on a spinning reel. I find that I get fewer knots and loops caused by spinning gear with line treated with L&L. Also this is a life saver when you take your wife or young kid fishing since they tend to distroy line on a spinning reel ;D
I once had a squeeking spinning reel and thought I would cure it by spraying Reel Magic on the handle shaft. OOPs, it locked up within a day and I had no idea why. HAHA
Hey thanks guys I am going to do half of my reels with Magic and half without. This way I'll notice the difference and were it helps me or not.
